Coming from iPhone to S6, Did I make the right move? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I owned the S4 then went to the S5 but what really pi$$ed me off with the S5 was even though it had fantastic specs it ran poorly thanks to TW, I said enough is enough and bought an iPhone 6.
Sure it was great for a month or 2 but I became extremely bored with it, don't get me wrong everything just works and I had no issues at all with my iphone but boy I was bored with it.
So I came across a deal on the S6 and took the plunge and put the order in, was this a wise move? Or should I have stayed with iPhone?

I am still very satisfied with this phone, best phone I ever had and I see no need for sidegrading to the s7 either because of the missing ir blaster and 128 GB internal storage option

I dont know. Did you?

[Q] I can't decide... S4 ($49) or HTC One (Free)

So I can get the S4 for $49 through AT&T directly or the HTC One for $0, both plus tax of course... have to love California franchise tax board but I digress...
As you can see, I currently own an S2 and have absolutely loved it ever since I've had it. It's been a great phone. My fear in getting the S4 is that it's gonna be a incremental upgrade whereas the One is something completely new. But is that better?
My S2 is the 16GB version with a 8GB microSD inside and that's been more than enough room. So the One with 32GB would be overkill. But then there's no removable battery and I've replaced mine once.
Will I get bored of the S4 pretty quick or is it really THAT much of an upgrade? Does Blinkfeed get old quick with the One? I know the earbuds are pretty kick ass with the One though.
I hate these types of decisions.

i think you would be happy with either phone. HTC and Samsung Are great companys they both never disappoint me with their phones. if you have any friends with a S4 or One i would check theirs out see which your like (go to your service provider store to test out also but Personally i love Samsungs phones better and would recommend buying a S4 instead, i think i have heard the S2 is getting some of the 4's goodies so i would wait a little longer. hell wait for the S5 to come out just another 4 months away xD

Well I was under the gun to make a decision as this wasn't a normal offer so I went with the S4. I've had great luck as I said with my S2 and a few of my friends have the S4 and they love it. But I did spend some time using the One and it's just built so well and Blinkfeed is quite slick. In the end, I chose based on a few things like the placement of the power button on the One and lack of a front button like the S4 has. Really minor things but I had to rationalize it one way or the other... :victory:

S6 is sooooooo much better

hate to be "that guy", but I had the g3 before and recently bought a flex 2. I tried rooted and stock, factory reset, 2 different phones (I bricked the first one). I finally gave up and bought the galaxy s6. Wow.. HUGE difference! The s6 is nearly perfect. I really wanted to like the flex as much, I loved the curve and the size and the way it fit in my hand. But I LOVE the performance on the s6. Love it. Anyway, just sharing. Lg dropped the ball on this one...

We have seen S6, and it is far from perfect!
I do not believe you could possibly have held and used the s6 and say it isn't closer to perfect that any other phone to date. I'm not a fanboy, I was over Samsung and their lookalike products... But they did anAMAZING job with the s6. You have to accept when a company makes a superior product and this is it.Maybt the g4 will be even better, I would love more competition, but for right now Samsung is doing the damn thing.
Yes. I had flex 2,while waiting for firmware to be fixed, I bought a s6. I will aggressively chase LG to fix my flex2 since I have another phone now.

S6 is better and its true. Ive sold my Flex 2 and...its being returned ffs! I hate its performance. Antutu score is awesone but daily use...crap. I will try to replace it.
Flex 2 could have been great lg dropped the ball. For the people that kept the phone i think if you didn't have problems like most of us its perfectly fine to keep it. I almost loved the phone until all the issues i had. S6 Is nice and the g flex2 . I went the other route and got a note 4 and couldn't be happier.

I totally disagree. I was at the Sprint store and three people returned the S6. The reason bee a lot of "lag" so were people with HTC one 9.
The reason is 5.0, not the hardware, it's draining the battery and causing lag. We are all in the same boat. It's the Qualcom CPU, it heats up, slows the system down.
Some device already has 5.1 and the problems have gone away.

Oh Please
The Lg Flex2 is a classy phone period. The way it feels in your hand and the way it looks, it's beautiful. The S6 is the same old thing, without ingenuity.
Once the Flex2 gets lollipop 5.1, you will back to the Flex2. This a fast, amazing phone, don't even have to root it since it can clear cache and back up to the LG cloud. No need to root.
Amazing phone that people have stopped me to ask me to look at it. The S6, well, same old thing.
Go to XDA S6 website and you will read the complaints.

I beg to differ. If you only did those 2 things with a rooted phone before, then you haven't explored the possibilities of rooting.

I will agree with everything else though.
As for everyone else, I don't have lag issues. And it might be the 3GB of RAM that apparently a lot of other phones don't have. The only issues I REALLY have with this device is battery life. It's about half or less than the first gen. I could play games on the flex for like 10 minutes and still be at 100%. I open my email for 2 minutes on flex 2 and I'm already down to 95%.

Totally agree with you. Beautiful piece of kit, everyone is impressed with the funky display too.. Loving it
Love the Flex2. no chance of damaging phone screen or camera when putting on surface. almost seems like a logical design for me.
easily fits into shirt pocket or back and from jeans pockets.
had note2 and note 1 and just got tired of touchwhiz; could not stomach another samsung although they were very good devices.
I had a v10 G Flex 2. It sucked. I rightly panned it in a magazine review. I had a S6, great camera, overall nice but terrible lag and stalling. Now back on a v15 GF2 and the difference from the original is night and day.
It's quick, smooth, camera is good and while it still gets warm and battery is just average, it's a very likeable phone.
I've spent my own money on a GF2 - they are incredibly good value - and I love the fact it's a bit different.
To caveat all that, the S6 with 5.1 might be a big improvement too...

I know Knox doesn't prevent or slow down the device I just didn't like Samsung adding it into their software system. I know I could freeze and delete some Knox crap or whatnot but It shouldn't be force upon us to have it in our devices in the first place.
Every year it's like their always adding something stupid which was one of the reason I switch. I got a nexus 6 which is my first nexus device ever and yea I'm a believer now after experiencing pure vanilla android without the Stutter's and lags and full of bloatwares or useless security apps like Knox.
I have a co worker with the S6 edge and honesty it's ashamed that it's still stutters and lag a bit out the box and it sucks that you have to go through the mission of deleting so much stuff just to get it to run a tad bit smoother. Nexus 6 showed me the real android experience and from now on that's the only devices I'm sticking to.

Too Much Missing

I have had my Verizon Note 5 for 9 days now. I really want to love it. Like a wayward child I want to hold it and tell it everything will be ok. I want to look at its beautiful face and ignore the behavioral issues.
But I just can't.
I have had every note since Note 2 (and Note 2 with unlocked BL is STILL my daily driver.)
But with the note 5 i just cant get over everything that makes it a non note
I have been told that USB-otg works, but I mainly used the Samsung multimedia doc (from note 2) that allowed keyboard and mouse, charging and HDMI out.
The LG v10 seems like a step in the right direction... if only it weren't so blasted ugly!
Those of you who have had the phone longer... help me get out of my funk! cus as of right now this thing is getting returned in 3 days.
If you don't like it, return it. No one here needs to convince you of anything.
The is no right or wrong. To me the stylus makes it a Note, and I'm ok with the features. If you're not, that's ok - return the phone.
It is a lot of money if you aren't happy with it.
For me the V10 was too darn big. But that's me, you might be fine with it.

The note 5 is a damn good phone. I've had mines since it came out. If u what a unlocked boot loader then return ur note 5 and buy one from Samsung. Yes I would love to have a unlocked boot loader but we all know how vzw is.The s-pen makes it a note not the boot loader being unlocked. The size makes it a note as well. There is to much good that out weigh the bad. Love my note 5 for now.

Honestly, I have had my Note 5 since launch day and minus a few issues (on Verizon's end, NOT Samsung's), I love it. It does everything I need it to do plus more. I really love the S-Pen and the rapid charging. Battery life is fine with me (if you honestly don't have an external battery charger, wall charger, or car charger then you shouldn't have a high end device). The picture quality is unbelievable, etc. Honestly, to me, the Note 5 is on top of the food chain but this is your preference and your decision. If you're note happy with it, then return it and get another phone that you're happy with (that's the beauty of a 15 day return policy, haha). Don't spend a ton of money and settle for a phone that isn't meeting your needs. There's no right or wrong answer on purchasing a device.
I'm a longtime HTC fanboy (I just dig the aesthetic of Sense and HTC's general skinning) and have always hated TouchWiz. However, now that you can do some base themeing, it's a better experience.
At the end of the day, Samsung Pay is pretty damned awesome. That alone will keep me on the N5 for a long while.
This was my feedback to samsung on the note 5. Not that they'll consider it, but nonetheless, I feel the same way.
I previously had a note 3, and absolutely loved it. It was the perfect phone for a power user. But time passed and it was time to upgrade and I figured I'd try the note 5. I'm regretting that decision more by the day. Honestly, if I could replace the battery, root it, and it had an ir blaster, it would be my new perfect phone. Nevermind it didn't get the spec bump this year - it's fast enough really. The phone is pretty, but a phone is a functional device first and accessory second.
I thought I could handle not having a replaceable battery - I was wrong. I'm on the road a lot and being able to replace the battery is invaluable. 3000 mah isn't cutting it.
I need to be able to modify the software if I want. I don't feel like I own my phone, and I resent it more the longer I think about it. I realize there are other options but, honestly, I really do like samsung phones. And I want to like this one.
I loved being able to control my entire htpc from my phone. I'm probably still a bit of a niche user in this regard, but why remove the ir blaster?
Bottom line, I'm going to have to sell this phone and get a Note 4, and hope you guys get it right next time. This one was a total miss for me. I wanted a newer note - you gave me a blown up S6 with a stylus.

Thais is exactly how I feel about the Note 5. I've upgraded, heck, pre-ordered two Note 3 and two Note 4, but I didn't upgrade to the Note 5. I just felt so under whelmed, plus the fact that it can't be rooted just sucks. It's a huge let down considering I have a Note 4 Developer Edition.
Ultimately I went with the Nexus 6P. I'm really liking it so far, and the more I use it, the more I can't justify the $200 price premium of the Note 5.

I've had many phones over the past year and settled with the Note 5. Although it's locked and unrootable I still chose it because I can do everything I liked to do on a rooted phone and more. No I can't physically remove unwanted system apps but I can hide and disable them with package disabler or the debloat tool. Removing them matters little because you can't make the system partition smaller to use the space anyways. The size is fixed. As for the IR blaster I never used it much and always ended up disabling it. The s-pen works the best out of all the note series I have used going back to the Note 3. If anyone is thinking about purchasing this phone or any other I suggest that you do your research before doing so. I had the S6 before this and loved it but always wished it was a bit larger and had the s-pen. So when the Note 5 came out I jumped on it and have been happy since day one. Yes root and a unlocked bootloader would be nice but I'm not about to switch to a inferior phone or carrier for that. It's just not worth it to me.
My Note 5 performs flawlessly
Just got the hotspot working. Started a VPN connection, then fired up foxfi free edition. Foxfi uses it's own vpn, so it disconnected mine. When foxfi timed out, hotspot stayed up. Not sure why, but it's working through the native tether. No VPN is connected now (full speed connection).
I like it, somewhat. I waited until I could find the right price. $400 on Craigslist. All set up and good to go. I don't like the size, it's too narrow for my hands. It is snappy and responsive. The camera is nice. I do groan a lot, missing things like the IR blaster and removable SD card. It's a nightmare to load everything on here and I dread the impending factory resets. But it's good enough, I guess.
I could have been more impressed though. Samsung set the bar way too high with the Note4 and Edge advancements they made when they released them. They have done no such thing on the Note5 though.
I don't really have complaints, so to speak. But it really could have been more innovative, as past Notes have been. It is still great. I do like it. But my expectations have not been exceeded as they always have been in the past with Samsung.

It's been over 2 weeks, and I'm still not fully in love with this phone. But, I'm loving the really nice screen and camera. Cause I vid chat with my girlfriend, play retro snes games and watched alot of HD tv shows from my DVR.
Would be nice if the note had the same curved edges as the edge plus. But then again, I prefer the curved back more because its easier to hold. Im sure they could have pulled off both if they really wanted to. However that would be one less change they can make make for the note 6 next year.

Anyone come from the v10 to the s7?

I have the v10, and it's an awesome phone don't get me wrong, but I don't really like the sizs of it and terrible battery life. I ditched Samsung when they ditched the SD card slot. If anyone came from it, what are your thoughts on jumping (on demand) to it from the v10?

The V10 had horrible battery life, but I like the fact that the camera focuses really quickly. But the S7 is a better hand size, and it feels better, IMO. The S7 battery lasts much longer, and the low light pictures are incredible.
I always liked Samsung because of the capacitive touch buttons at the bottom of the phone, but I found LG V10 was disappointing with some good points.

I jumped from the v10 to the s7 edge. Got it yesterday. S7 beats v10 hands down no questions asked just do it!!! This thing is in a whole nother dimension compaired to the v10. Im never going back to lg. Unless its a nexus.
Not quite for me.. I Came from the G4 to the S7 (Flat)..
So far I am not missing anything other then the knock to wake from the LG. The camera on the s7 is better which is almost kinda hard to believe considering how good the g4/v10 camera is.
And the battery life is at least as good but seems to be a bit better.
Well I guess you guys sold me. I don't want the edge as I had the regular edge it was pointless to me and had so many problems.
BTW T-Mobile killed off jump on demand so we have to wait to see what happened, how they handle our existing jod.
Thanks guys, I do miss Samsung. I've had Sammy since the s3. As soon as root is achieved I'll be switching if not sooner

Curious to see where this info came from as well. It's still on the T-Mobile site, and I was able to use my Jump On Demand to get my preorder S7 (Pre-Ordered Feb 23 and received it Monday, Feb 29).
I am a T-Mobile employee . They gave no explanation for it. Just to remove everything JOD related from the store and that is it. We're all still waiting for answers on what's going to happen with existing peeps. Hell, they might just be changing the name. They don't tell us ****. I was wondering why it still shows up on their site as well.
Edit.. Apparently there's a new uncarrier launch coming around March 13. Maybe it has something to do with it

I came from the v10 to the s7. Samsung hardware is so much better. Screen, camera, solid state sd... You made a wise move. The v10 was dead on arrival becasue no devs will work on the second screen. Erwan is the only one who is working on CM and he got it ported but the CM second screen blows.
Good move. Hang tight, i will be working on some CM projects for this phone. I will begin pulling cm trees to samsung

Thanks man. I haven't jumped ship yet but I plan to. I am running no name rom on my v10 but seems development has stopped, or barely started. I love this phone but the the battery life is killing me. I like the s7 regular size better anyway.
Edit... I have been holding off until it's confirmed to have an unlocked bootloader with tnobile
I have the v10 and I am impatiently waiting for my s7 to arrive so I can dump this thing.. It's a nice looking phone and camera is decent but it's definitely not an Samsung.!!!

I am also an employee, & have heard nothing at all of this. My guess if anything it will get modified like the original JUMP to JUMP2 did. That or maybe fix some of the details to ensure people dont lease like 4 devices on the same line (yes it happens & it makes for a very ugly bill).
My v10 is going back as soon as the s7 gets here hopefully tomorrow
Just pre-ordered my s7 with deferred trade in. It'll stay in the box until it gets root though. I'll be so pissed if it's a locked bootloader.
Gold s7 in hand
Same here. Now we need root on this thing
I came from the V10 to the S7 flat. Actually got the S7 on launch day which is odd for me since I usually sit back on a phone, but the V10 was bothering me too much.
While the V10 finally got a daily driver CM rom going (and huge props to the dev for that), there is one major flaw that will forever hold back development: the 2nd screen. I used UI Tuner to get rid of the 2nd screen, but then it basically turned it into a giant bezel. I highly doubt any AOSP devs will ever program something to work with the 2nd screen and I also realized that the 2nd screen was a total gimmick anyway. The only thing useful for me was the time being shown with the screen off. It was also nice to have the removable back and battery, but I hardly swapped it out.
The S7 having an SD slot again, a less phablet like size, and waterproofing (the REAL seller for me) are what sold me on the S7. The snapdragon was the icing on the cake, but the bootloader crap going on right now dampers that. Regardless, while the V10 was a good phone for me, it didn't have enough unique features and AOSP scene to keep me with the phone. I will miss knock on a lot and it's going to take a lot of time to get used to different button placements since I've been with LG since the G2.

Well so long Sammy. It was fun while it lasted.

After purchasing a s8 from Tmobile by means of an insurance claim ($175) plus jump, something dawned on me. All the new none hardware features the s8 flaunts had been running and running solid on my s6 edge plus for over 2 months and were no longer awe inspiring. After 2 days with my new sleek looking beast I instantly knew no way did I want to pay $800 for a phone I basically had for 2 months, with a locked bootloader, and doomed by Samsungs slow update rollouts. After owning all Sammy phones since the s2 I traded in the s8 for for the LG V20. I must say the trade off has been absolutely worth every bit of the $300 dollars I saved and more. The only advantage Ive seen of the s8 is the snappy 835. Yes I didn't say the screen because ive had burn in with every phone i ever had. Everyting else(that matters to homosapiens) is pretty much advantage LG. I cant belive Ive been as much a fanboy as the I$hit apple fan boys all these years. I will miss my favorite devs from through the years and you guys who showed love to a noob. My bags are packed, Im off to the other side and without a note 8 in sight no plans of returning.

Farewell, I'd do the same but for universal usability of Samsung Pay, and that I have to stop phone whoring, 8+ is not a bad phone to hang with
But I'm excited for you [emoji106]

I went from a Note5 to Note7 and then for obvious reasons ended up with a S7e. The move from N7 to S7e was like going from a BMW to a Chevy Impala with the S7e being much more similar to my Note5 than Note7. I can't even imagine comparing a S8 to a S6. I'm getting a Note8 but moved to a S8+ in the interim because I just couldn't handle the S7e and how outdated it felt; especially after my brief stint with a N7.. I can't imagine comparing a S8 to a S6. But to each their own.
We tend to become crazy with new updates

Not comparing but the s6 edge plus does have a 5.7 screen and I was using the s8 port for months with all features working so there was no newness about the s8 for me besides the smoothness. The note 8 is where its at though.

You can put the 580HP V8 engine from a 2017 COPO Camaro in to a 2015 V6 stripper. What you'll have is a two-year old V6 stripper with another car's engine. For me and I'm assuming quite a few here the annual move to the next generation flagship is about the sum of the parts not one particular feature or single piece of s/w. After using it for a while now I think the S8 (I have a S8+) is Samsung's greatest work to date. Even with some of its issues. There are people who for whatever reason can't or won't justify moving to the next big thing. That's OK but don't try to use whatever rationale supported that decision on others. Value is in the eye of the beholder.

I stay for the gearvr, but the S8+ is a very nice phone if you have an unlocked BL. Had an unlocked BL not been available from Samsung , I would have gone elsewhere. In the future I'll likely buy the standalone VR and buy another manufactures phone because they do seem like they are trying to move away from an unlocked BL.
All the while too, I'm waiting for google to put out a better asop hardware phone together featuring an amoled display and external sd card slot, they have always be behind the 8-ball with that, the best phone they ever put out with the S4 GPE for obvious reasons.
I have an old S6 Edge and the software, on the latest 7.0 is snappy and almost the same as my S8+, besides bixby and some other featured. By no means do they compare, but with the new software lately, even old phone seem to be zippy. My old Note 4, which hasn't gotten 7.0 is slow to a crawl. The new TouchWiz helps a great deal.
As for the lack of an unlocked bootloader and root, it is a bummer. But it cannot be discounted that this is the best phone out right now, in almost every aspect
I made the mistake of buying an S6. I jumped from it asap. I went BACK to a Note 4.
When the Note 7 came out, I bought one ASAP. I ended up with an S7e and wish I had just gone back to my Note 4 instead.
Now I have an S8, and am a little more happy, but i'll be getting a Note 8 day one.

I think you'll be waiting a very long time....
Google would rather you use their storage services than have the convenience of an SD Card.

Funny thing, I had a V20 which was absolute ****. I purchased the Exynos S8+ and I've never been so happy! I've never owned a Samsung before because I HATED the button layouts (the back was switched with recent) and just over all screamed cheap to me. Now with this phone.. The best!
