Wifi isn't strongest 5's part. Pretty weak, when my old s6 gets 3bars of wifi, 5's only one. Maybe new wifi driver would help, just need to wait.

just checked mine against my s6 and my mi5 gets 3 bars(switching to 4 sometimes) and so does the s6.
edit:just installed wifi analyzer on both phones and both measure at -70dbm for my network. Identical

I was in a friend house today and mi5 had 1 bar (sometimes 0 bars) and my work phone (an iPhone 6) had 3 bars

don't look at the number of bars, they could be set up differently. use wifi analyser to check signal strenght received by the phones, or do a speedtest

Yes, exactly.
I just got my xiaomi mi5 black 64gb and in comparison to my wife's s6 we get different results in respect how wifi bars are being displayed. S6 shows full wifi bars, xiaomi shows 3 (supposedly @middle of signal strength) , but speedtest shows that both phones get the same ~200Mbps download/upload speed. Tested on netgear r7000 router with 250Mbps fiber connection.

Regardless of the bars showing, Mi5 has poor wifi strength.
I use my smartphone every day of my life many time lying on my bed. As you can imagine, the area in which I use the mobile will be as much 40x40cms (actually less), so that the accuracy of my "experience" is great. Wifi signal is poor exactly in this area of my house. I haven't measured data, but I know count the times disconnects from my network to connect to 5Ghz 2.4Ghz (2.4 gives me more distance), or disconnected directly from 2.4Ghz.
About 5Ghz, MI5 is better than the Nexus 4 and worse than a G2, which is not the best in the world about signal strength.
About 2.4Ghz is worse than both, at least in the ROM I've been so far.

Mi5 (unofficial CM13) vs Moto G 3rd gen official CM13 (better)

Xiaomi mi5 Weak signal
My new Mi5 with Global Stable Rom (latest) has weak wifi signal. In a distance of 15-20 meter with some walls in between I used to have 2 bars with my old Xiaomi Redmi 3 and now with my Mi5 I don't have any signal at all. There is something definately wrong with the Wifi of this phone. Hope a driver or an update from Xiaomi will fix it or else the phone is useless :crying:

Mine is surprisingly good, better than my previous Mi 4c. We have two AP on each floor in my office. With Mi 4c, going up or down from one floor to another, there's a blank spot somewhere on the stairs. With Mi 5, none. It just switches smoothly from one AP to another. Sometimes it even sticks to AP at the first floor when I'm on the second, pretty neat to pass through the thick floor.
Here's the one at my home:

Hey, news on this? I'm on the lastest developers rom and the signal is way worst than on lg g3 :\ often it says no internet connection. where g3 doesn't have any problem.

In Spain I dont have Wifi Problem

my wifi is poor too

wifi problem in mi5
my wifi is awful. The range is low, 5-10meters and the donwload maximun is round 400kb/s. Please anyone knows how we can fix this?
thank u

I possess Xiaomi MI5, and 2 Samsungs: Galaxy 5 (sm-g 900) and Galaxy 1 (gt-i9000).
So I compared them a lot, and my conclusion is that the MI 5's wifi reception is at the same level as the gt-i9000. The Galaxy 5 is much better.
In my opinion, the problem is the hardware, since I have to get close to the router to connect. When I am farther, it disconnects - or have 1 line signal strength - and not able to surf on the Net.

Can any one help me in fixing wifi in MI5
I bought new mi5 32GB on Friday 21 2016, When i tried to transfer a single file small video file just about 88MB from one of the mobile to MI5 it took 6 mins to receive in Mi5. I used shareit app to transfer fileS between two mobiles.
And moreover when i tried to connect the MI5 device through wifi . Its very slow its not even crossing 1mbsp speed to download.
I have very good wifi internet connection there is no issues in the internet or wifi signal.
Can any one please help me in fixing the wifi issue?

Wi-fi strength is bad... in MIUI 8. I never thought different ROMs will differ.
In my bathroom (yes, I carry my phone in bathroom), Wi-fi will come and go in MIUI 8.
However, it is better in CM 13 and CM 14. Didn't have that problem in my bathroom. So I think Wi-fi signal is good, depends on what ROM you use.
Before Mi5, I used LG G2. Mi5 is better (with CM 13 ROM, of course) than my old G2.

It is definitely better than my previous phone - mi3. I am surprised it connects to some quite remote networks.

it has great signal and wifi reception compare to my redmi note 4

I also think Mi5 wifi performs worst than my previous phones like the Lenovo K3 Note and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro. The Bluetooth also has worse signal like the Redmi Note 3 Pro (Lenovo K3 was way better).
Could it be with the antennas placement? Because I can see the bars go up and down if I hold the phone differently (wifi analyzer is the same)

Shield Tablet experiencing terrible WiFi

Having some bad WiFi with my new Shield tablet.. Where my Note 3 or Tab S have full bars my Shield only gets 2 of 4... Low link speed too. I was hoping it was a software issue but not so sure anymore..... When holding the tablet in portrait, my hands hold the bottom part of the tablet, moving my hands increases the bars and then move them back and they go away. I guess the WiFi antenna is down there? Either way, it is easily blocked. Anyone else notice this?
there's a big thread over at geforce.com about it. you're not alone. 2.4 is OK-ish though still weaker than my other devices but 5ghz is terrible. where my note3 gets 108mbit 1 floor down the shield tab gets 6-12mbit and sometimes no signal at all. heck, same floor as the router and 1 room over with 1 wall between and 15ft total distance and it only manages a meager 24mbit connection when my note3 is at 150mbit and my surface3 is 300mbit. hoping its not a hardware design flaw and is just poor drivers or firmware.
Yeah its a shame really. I wouldn't expect bad WiFi signal really with any device released recently.
Maybe they lowered the mW output of the wifi to help mitigate battery drain from the gpu. That can usually be fixed with firmware, for about a 3% hit on battery life.
If antenna related, a power increase will not help much if at all. Only fix then would be a production revision.
Well I guess I will hope for the first possibility.
I might be a bit under on the battery life hit. Maybe 5% is closer. I hope so too, since was going to get the 32gb model when released.
Here's a look at Note 3, Tab S, and Shield all sitting on the router. Note the link speed on all.

Does the Shield not support ac? Dang, I thought I read it did before I bought it.
Nope only up to n
There is already a way to increase the power with the wifi optimization setting and reports are minimal if any improvement. Looking more like an antenna issue, but always a chance something else. Need to get a response from Nvidia. If they go silent on the matter, that would be bad.
Wonder if the 32GB will have the issue as well? A delay in the 32GB (beginning of September) would suggest a design revision might be in place.
I just got mine today and the wifi is pretty bad on this compared to my note 3. I tried running a test by walking away from my router with both the note 3 and the shield tablet. Eventually the shield lost communication with my router while the note 3 still was able to acquire at at least 2 -3 bars. I was really looking forward to this tablet but if I can't go to another room without losing connection then it's pretty pointless.
Damn it. This is unbearable. I can't even play modern combat 5 which requires constant connection. It keeps disconnecting.
Running wifi analyzer I noticed the connection jumps a lot. I would love to open her up to see if it's a connection issue but not sure how to. Have to wait for a tear down.
May I ask which router you have ? I had a lot of issues with one particular brand- Netgear, which is very picky in terms of devices . It works with Mac retina, but it did not work with my Vaio , Now I am using cisco ea4500 and all of my problem gone, I might be wrong but it always good to check in on other wifi-s

Netgear r7000 Nighthawk. Shield tablet is my only problem device on the network.
My Tab S does great in the same spots. This morning has been actually great though, not as good as my Tab S but it also costs a lot more so probably expected. Here's 2 speed tests for comparison. First one is Tab S and second is Shield .
Mine works fine with an older netgear router. The classic 802.11g 2.4Ghz. Same speeds as my nexus 5 gets pretty much everywhere in my house. I don't use the streaming feature though so can't comment on it.
An nVidia guy did respond to a report of that 24Mbps thing. Maybe that bug affects more than just the WiFi Analytics app.

In my case, my issue is more range. The shield has a weaker wifi.
So I received a replacement last week which had slightly better signal than my original but it had a much warmer yellowish screen so there was no way I'm going to keep that. I figured then that this has to be a hardware thing so I opened up the back and made sure all the connection for the radio was properly seated. And to my surprise it made my wifi on par with the replacement and with my Samsung note 2014. I don't recommend you open yours of course but maybe there's potential QA issue with these tablets? I recommend maybe you get a replacement from Nvidia and hopefully you get one with better wifi.
Top is note 2014, bottom left original shield, bottom right replacement.

[Q] Cell reception and WiFi issues

I hope by posting this here we can find an answer to a problem that a lot of OPO users are complaining of. the device has a terrible cell and WiFI reception when compared to other devices in the same area and using the same wifi networks.
Cell reception:
I`m on a 4G network . however i find that i have 0-1 bar almost all of the time in areas where i used to have 3-4 bars. and as a result i constantly get missed calls notifications. I read that switching to 3G in the phone settings might help, and that`s when i ran into the second problem. Switching to 3G will indeed give me better reception 3-4 bars but then the whole connection becomes erratic, and the phone will go from 3 bars to ``no connection`` back to 4 bars 4 to 5 times every minutes and i will lose mobile data totally on 3G.
WiFi reception and connection:
I have a secure 802.1x connection at work spread over 2 buildings. the phone will connect to 1 only and will not connect to the same network in the other building at all. both have the same SSID , settings, and login information. but the phone will just cycle between `connecting`` to `` secured with 802.1x``. I tried all roms available and the only ROM that worked was `Gummy ROM``. only when using that ROM, is the phone able to connect to that WiFi network!! and i have no explanation for that.
All these problems I mentioned above are consistent across all roms and there seems to be no answer from OPO support or on the official forum for the phone. I hope someone can provide me with a solution or an answer to this.
Thank you all

I'm getting the same problems.
Where signal is always strong, it seems to work OK, but with weaker signal it just screws up!
Its really pissing me off as i've take the phone to work for the first time, just to find out I cannot get any signal there, where by my HTC Desire worked just fine.
Also getting exactly the same problems. It is impossible to use OPO where signal is not so strong although other phones work flawlessly. Reception signal strength goes up and down all the time from full to none bars. Data connection is inconsistent.
Anyone with weak inconsistent signal strength vote here: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-132
I still hope that what we are experiencing is due to firmware and drivers issues that can be solved by the developers on XDA. However, the complete silence by OnePlus and Cyanogen regarding this issue despite the number of people complaining, makes me worried that it's a bigger hardware issue that they are trying to avoid and move into "we'll fix it in the next version of the phone” kind of scenario.

That would be bad scenario. I hope that it is just software problems. But seeing how OnePlus deals with the problems I also have doubts.
I would say it's software baseband/modem and CM needs to step it up. My Nexus 5 has a better signal strength. But then Google has a much bigger development team than CM or One plus. My friend has the GS5 and it has the snapdragon 801 chip set and it has a much better signal strength.
So ether the One's antenna is not that great or it a software problem.
As you can see the controller is on chip.

I don't have it as bad as some have posted so hope things get fixed for all.
Yeah. Many users are having problems with cell reception.
It's a shame.
My wife & I both using OPO international version, both of us facing poor signal & sound problem when we get them. Sound problem is currently handled by boosting the sound but frankly the sound is a bit deteriorated. The signal problem is better a bit now by installing oppo 7 radio. Hope the team can put more effort on the signal problem. It is phone!
I have this issue too, but I think this is a hardware problem, because CM and OPO teams do nothing for fix this problem, and Chao Chen at CM Jira says that this poor signal is a normal... I realy think about selling my OPO and buy another phone...
I have pretty crappy signal on mine too (London UK). Signal strength fluctuates wildly even by moving the phone in a different direction. I've reverted to the previous modem via a flash .zip and things seem a bit better but it's early days. I would have thought that number 1 priority for a phone is that it actually works well as...well, a phone!
Disappointed that the 'giant killer' tag doesn't quite match the reality.
I sincerely hope there are improvements but I have my doubts.

I don't have this problem on O2 uk wonder if its anything to do with 4g which isn't supported on this network. Have any of you tried PAC rom.
This problem is really starting to be a major issue for me. I expected some improvement by now.
Does anyone know is this has been confirmed as a radio/kernel issue or a hardware issue (antennas maybe).

Cellular strength and throughput

LTE weak signal
HI,
I have a real problem with my Mi 5, the cellular card seems not to work properly, indeed it constantly changing from one network to another , es: from 4G to H+ to H so the LTE cell is not well detected.
I have made some test with SpeedTest using two smartphones ( Z1 on the left - Mi 5 on the right ) with the same Network operator and into the same place but the result are completely different see the enclosed image . Does any one have the same problem?
Thank you

I can confirm that I have same issues, I sometimes drop to E. I have never had issues like this previously with any of my Nexus phones. There is definitely something wrong here. WiFi isn't any better. I can't connect to router from place in my house where Nexus 5 does just fine with 4 out 5 bars.
Not good.
I'm thinking on buying this phone, I live in the US but as far as I know, none of the LTE band this phone uses is compatible with any US carriers, right?
I use MetroPCS, btw.

I also have problems. It usually switch to E or No Signal for a while. Maybe with public kernel source someone could fix that.
Using MIUI 8, I notice that phone will switch to "No Signal" for a very brief moment and then went back.
Didn't have that kind of problem in CM 13/ CM 14.

I'm able to get consistent wifi, able to stream videos from my home server smoothly. Full connection throughout the house.
But cellular is a bit patchy, sometimes dropping to "Emergency calls only" while moving (for example, car, bus).
It's good while stationary, but often sits just short of full bars.

How close to the router were you? HTC products have always had poor wifi reception when one was not standing or sitting right next to the router. Samsung is the same for some reason. Apple tends to do a bit better in range wise.

When I ran the speedtest I was right next to the Access Point (It's not a router, It's a standalone Access point) About 5 ft away physically. Obviously there is an exponential drop off in speed when moving away from the source. But the Pixel XL appears to perform similar, Perhaps a tad bit better then my Note 7 did.
signal range is pretty poor for me. this thing won't remain connected to my 5ghz network to save it's life where's my v20 will and will get crazy speeds even with a low connection in the exact same room. in general ,the WiFi is pretty bad on the pixel and slower than my work s6 and my personal v20.

I get similar speeds on my Pixel XL pretty much everywhere in my house (covered by a 3 Asus OnHub Google Wifi mesh network connected to AT&T Gigabit Internet.) What I have noticed however is that speeds are slower if my phone is not connected to power and faster when the phone is plugged in. It is not something "flukey" ... I see it consistently. To get the speeds like in the screenshot, my Pixel XL would need to be plugged into a power source (and connected at 5Ghz).
Anyone else get notified every time you pass your local cable provider wifi out in public to sign in every time.I clicked auto sign in and still Everytime I can pick one up driving or walking down the road I get a notification to sign in very annoying
I have really spotty wifi problems with my pixel XL. Thought it was just my internet but sometimes I have a good signal sometimes and others its trash. super strange as to why it is so iffy, it doesnt really have a spot where it works better than others.

Question Cellular Signal Not as good as other phones? 4g LTE/5g T-mobile

I own two Samsung Galaxy a32 5G phones on T-Mobile. Prior to this I owned a pixel 3A, and also I own a LG Stylo 4. While using the Samsung GalaxyA32, one thing that I've noticed is that the signal pick up for the cellular service is not as good as the pixel or the LG Stylo 4. The pixel and the LG Stylo 4 utilize only the 4G LTE signal. This one obviously has the 4G LTE, and the 5G connection. What I'm noticing is that in places where there is low signal and able to make phone calls using the pixel 3A and also the LG Stylo 4 but I'm unable to do so with the Samsung Galaxy phone. Initially I thought it was just a problem maybe with the 5G, and the 5G switching over with to the 4G LTE, and during that network switch that could have led to drop calls. Therefore what I have done is change the mobile networks to only 4G LTE 3-g, 2G, connection. Even with that I am seeing that the pixel, and the LG Stylo for having a better connection with the 4G LTE and that of the Samsung Galaxy A 32. I do not believe it is a defective phone since I'm having the same issue with two of the phones. I've called T-Mobile before, and made sure that I have a latest SIM card, I've also done Network resets. And even Factory resets. I did not think that now was a time where different phones got better signals than others, like Nokia did back in the 90s. Is anyone else having a similar type of issue? I have been updating the software as it comes out as well. Otherwise its a good Free Phone....
The modem in the A32 is not that great. At my house I get around 6-10mbps over 5G while the recent OnePlus Nord N200 5G thats now free gets upwards of 40mbps which is on par with my other devices.
I also got this phone for free through T-Mobile by turning in my Moto Z2 and I am not so happy about... Sure it was 3 year old phone but at least it wasn't as cheap as this.
I'm not sure about mobile data being slower or worse than other 5G phones but It wouldn't surprise me at all.. The Wifi (chip?) they use I know for sure is cheap, as it doesn't work or connect with cameras I use for work remotely. It also disconnects from my home wifi or has poor range. My mom got the same phone with the trade in and same problems. I'm planning on selling it while it still has some value and going back to Motorola or even a google pixel.
I understand it being a budget phone but to cheap out one of the most important aspects of a phone is just bad.
I have both Oneplus N200 5G and Samsung A32 5G. Both on Tmobile and I have no issue with Samsung MTK chip, in fact, it out perform SD480 modem with 5G.

There's a big difference between signal strength and data transfer speed.
You can have good signal strength but poor transfer speeds, but not vice versa.
Try clearing the system cache and a network reset.
This device built-in antenna or modem may not be the best for your T-Mobile LTE connections...
Tried again just now. Samsung a32 still get better result compare to oneplus n200.
Oh well..
Samsung is under a326usqu3auf7
Oneplus is under 11.0.1.5de18cb
All my A32's act the same in a rual area 5G unreliable etc etc data will stop working until airplane mode or disable 5G.. The OnePlus Nord N200, iPhone 12 Pro Max, OnePlus 8T,etc dont have that issue.
Also in some of your screenshots says XFINITY like you tested it over WiFi

LOL, you sound like I am providing fake testing. I am using N200 myself beause faster facial recognition. However, the fact remain that A32 is faster for me. Here is another shot while during the testing.
But, it is possible all depend on where user live? I am couple blocks away from T-mobile HQ in Bellevue WA.
BTW, I literally PM uninstall all t-mobile packages off both of my phones. why don't you do the speedtest between your N200 and A32 since you also have both, curious what is the different?
My issue is not just speed, its the point that the A32 will loose data randomly.
Example I put an A32 and N200 in the window facing my cloeset tower turn on hotspot let them sit there, within 30 min the A32 will drop the connection and or drop down to LTE while the N200 stays connected for days on end without issue. Granted I'm more rural but its the point the N200 holds on a consiant 30mbps while the A32 cant even maintain a connection. In city areas its fine.

i usb tether my a326u1 and it never drops, maybe you have a faulty one? maybe network depriorisation?

USB tether same thing. Cant be faulty all 4 of them do this... If it was network depriorsation that would affect the N200 and OnePlus 8T as well which it doesnt. Granted the A32 works great in populated areas where signal is good, but rual areas it fails while others are still fine.
You guys may want to Google what bands each phone is compatible with. That's likely what's going on here.
No big deal, but I must say I'm a little confused that people in this thread seem to be confusing cellular "speed" (Mbps) with cellular "signal strength" (dBm), at least that's what it appears to be when I skim this thread.
If people are equating them, then that's fine - I won't quibble (as they're somewhat tangentially related even as they're two completely different measurement units of different things altogether).
What caused me to open this thread was the title said "Cellular Signal" even as it doesn't discuss anything about cellular signal strength.
If it's only about speed tests, then maybe the title can be edited by the OP, but if it's really about cellular signal strength, there are a bunch of good free ad free gsf free apps which measure & report cellular signal strength (usually it's measured in decibels of varying types) in a moving graph (the graph is the important part as the numbers themselves can fluctuate wildly).

The signal strength is easy to view in settings...

Yes. Thank you for clarifying. I wasn't clear enough. I'm sorry.
This will get you instantaneous signal strength readings.
Android 11 Settings.
Tap About phone.
Tap Status information.
Tap SIM card status.
Scroll down to Signal strength.
This is your instantaneous signal strength in dBm & asu.
By way of additional useful signal strength functionality, most (if not all) of the free ad free apps I previously listed not only provide a moving real-time graph of that same instantaneous cellular signal strength in any of a number of measurements (e.g., RSSI, RSRP, RSRQ & SNR) but they also provide the unique tower ID (often down to the exact sector antenna) and the neighboring cells, along with frequency, band, EARFCN, etc.
I think some even estimate the location of the cellular tower on an OSM map (where even the unregistered homeowners' microcells are located on those maps - which aren't usually found on Internet databases).

Just wanna say, it might be doing worse on one device vs the other because the tests are running at the same time so they're both fighting for the limited bandwidth. And whatever device starts first gets the lead and keeps it.
Latest patch (baseband A326WVLU6AUK2, November 1st 2021) sort of fixed the bad wifi signal. However, my 5g signal is still trash with this phone (I'm with Telus).
I just keep it on LTE and it works nicely.
