So, I purchased a galaxy S7 (G930F) that turned out to be locked to a google account that the seller claims to have no details of. I have already paid for the phone and would not get the money back. I am now stuck with this phone that keeps on asking for the stupid google account details without which it would not let me use the phone. I have tried looking everywhere on the internet and came to the conclusion that I need to reset or bypass factory reset protection (FRP) in order for me to able to use the phone. There are a couple of guys who can help (one of them is http://www.simplemarket.info/demo/bsyoutubeapipro/user/UCgBhI-0hK6EiNd8mu4VzlHw?lang=ur) but they are asking for ridiculous amounts of money (north of $100). I am happy to pay a nominal fees but this sounds a little too much to me. Does anybody know if there is a free solution (or something that has a reasonable price)?
Why don't you file a dispute from the site you purchased/bank and claim for a refund.

I would have loved to! I paid cash and purchased it from Gumtree (much like Craiglist)
Have you tried to reset your phone in recovery mode ?
To enter the recovery mode, hold down the VOLUME UP + HOME Button keys and then press the POWER button (hold it down untill you're in Recovery mode).
You can also try to download the full official ROM from Sammobile and flash it with ODIN.
This will also reset your phone.
Hey mate, thanks for your suggestions. I have tried doing the factory reset (entering into recovery using power+vol up + home keys) and flashed the stock firmware (entering into download mode using power+vol down+home keys). Unfortunately, neither of those worked

Cannot try this unfortunately since it doesn't support frp reset for G930f (Galaxy s7). Moreover, it needs purchase of a hardware (z3x box) which costs North of $200.
Thanks heaps for your suggestions though
Good luck, I'm going to try those guys in your first post if Samsung repairers can't/won't fix mine.
This is weird, I have had maybe 10 different factory new Android phone since my first, the Legend, and maybe 30 second hand Android phones, but I have never heard that they should be locked to a certain Google/Gmail account. All my phones were readily customizable with my own GMAil account after a factory reset, ready for use. But hen again, I am from Denmark and we used SIM cards in our phones, and I have tried to find the origin country of this poster but couldn't, so maybe he is from a country where phones are coded with the phone number (CDMA??), like mine were when I lived in California. But I will follow this and hope to reveal the type, SIM or CDMA.
It's a new protection for phones shipping with Android 6.0 and onward, it's meant to prevent theft and it's actually very effective at it.

Unless you are in absolute rush, I'd suggest that you shouldn't entertain people like that. There would be a free or low cost solution within a week or so (that's what a few people on gsmhosting forums suggested). I'm actively looking for the solution and I will post the solution here when I do find one.

hi no i met him but i know his postcode and car so worst comes to worst it will be sorted. model number on phone is sm-n900
Thats the International Exynos version if I'm not mistaken, so all is not lost .... but confirm that number with the sticker and in the settings also may pay you to boot it up into download mode just to be really sure :fingers-crossed: As for the sim card not working I think thats just a case of a blacklisted phone but tbh I'm not aware of any network selling the exynos version in the UK so not sure why it would be blacklisted?!?

If it is genuine as you think and I hope it is. Then you can still get it to work in the UK mate.
Try connecting the phone to the the Samsung software called kies. See what it tells you on there and report back. Also hold vol down + home button + power button at the same time. This should bring you into download mode. Let us know what it says on the screen there

Yep definitely a knockoff with the Mediatek CPU. Samsung use either Qualcom Snapdragon or Exynos CPU. You won't find a Mediatek CPU in Samsung device...

Thank you . I am confused by storage total space shows as "128GB" and Phone storage shows as <4GB
They use an app to trick the phone into showing more storage than it has. I had one from Thailand that said 64gb internal storage but after a factory reset the story was VERY different.
It's like the sd cards you can get that are supposedly more than what they really are.
Usually once you exceed the storage limit you loose data or corrupt everything.
You have a novelty toy, nothing more....
I really hope yuou didn't pay $50USD If you paid via Paypal, bite the bullet , put in a for this (and even that seems a bit high for what your showing)as you have been ripped off BIUG time if you paid any more...
If you used Paypal, put in a dispute and send the item back to get your money back. The dispute is the item is a fake. You didn't get what you paid for...

Just some.advice, cause that listing looks shady as sh1t...if you're going to buy off Craigslist have the seller meet you at T-Mobile so they can verify its a genuine T-Mo device. If they're not willing to do that, then run, run, run from that listing.
This is low quality fake S8+, you won't able to install Samsung firmware and it will only break it if you do so.
For price of $350, definitely impossible is a real one.
I have had many Google phones: G1, Nexus One, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 5x, Nexus 6p, and now a Pixel, which I bought second hand, and have been using for about 4 months.
Yesterday, after an OTA, the phone died and I cannot fix it. I called Google. They say that because the phone is associated with another account, they cannot do anything.
They say the seller has to call them to transfer the phone to me. I contacted the seller, but so far no response. I hope she ends up responding, but if not, I will end up with a 500 dollars brick.
Terrible support from Google. My last Google Phone unless they change their support.

Could you elaborate on 'the phone died'? ... your post is very vague, so I think if you are actually in need of help (rather than just venting/complaining), we might need some details...
does your pixel turn on? ...
can you use 'fastboot'? ...
what was the OTA for? ... was it the oreo update or what?
I'm not surprised that google can't help you, if they see your phone as belonging to someone else, that really doesn't qualify as terrible support.
For all they know; the device could be stolen...
Anyway, maybe if you provide mire information here - someone can assist you...
That is not Google's fault! You should have done your homework and got it transferred it to your name. They don't know how you acquired the phone, you could have stole it in the street, google has no idea.
You will not be able to do anything until the previous owner login to your phone and then add yours. It happend to me also when I sold my 6p, did not know why the phone keeps asking my account name even after a full reset

I understand why you are upset, but this is really not Google's fault. Try to think about it objectively for a moment -- would you really want them providing support when the caller is not the person the phone is registered to/associated with? That would be a massive security breach waiting to happen.

It won't turn on. I can try power + volume down (or up?), and the Pixel will make a vibration, but it is not detected on my PC whatsoever. I have read over XDA and it appears the OTA killed somehting (boot loader?). It was not unlocked. The ota was not OREO, It already had OREO, it was the last month security fixes.
I mean I get your frustrated BUT try taking ANY product back to a store or contacting any manufacturer for warranty support without proof of purchase. You might be done with Google phone but all cell phone manufacturers would give the same response in an identical situation. Buying a used product unfortunately has certain drawbacks. Your lucky Google is willing to help if the original purchaser calls them. Best of luck.

OK. That's interesting that it vibrates... it must at least have some juice / can charge?
Try booting into safe mode or recover?

Maybe methodically go through each step and see, if you notice anything... I know when I first installed Oreo, my phone didn't boot. There wasva few minute period where I thought it was bricked. I played with key combos, power button, charging, etc... but after a couple of minutes it booted (thankfully).
PS: to everyone not trying to offer some advice or help, cool it... regardless of the device being used or OP being frustrated, it would be better to either offer suggestions and/or help, or just not reply.

I had wondered if the screen died too... I guess another way to test that would be too see if you can get it to power up (regardless of whether the screen comes on, but it vibrates), wait a couple of min and try calling the phone? ... or go into your google account and see if you can 'find your device' / android device manager...
I mean, I would think if the device was dead, it wouldn't charge / vibrate... and that you would've seen a blinking red led when it was almost dead.... or the charging image when it's charging... odd.

Buying used stuff is always a gamble. I never buy used electronics.... I wonder if the seller knew there was something up with the phone? Mind you, it worked for 6months... just seems odd that they wouldn't reply, unless they used a throw away account for selling (which isn't uncommon, I suppose)...
Ya, no problem with replying. I think some people on here are just babies. They forget the XDA is a community, or maybe they just don't have anything better to do.

I had wondered if the screen died too... I guess another way to test that would be too see if you can get it to power up (regardless of whether the screen comes on, but it vibrates), wait a couple of min and try calling the phone? ... or go into your google account and see if you can 'find your device' / android device manager...

I don't usually do it, but this user has 756 positive reviews, the phone was complete and mint looking....

Yeah, it is like they work for Google.

They still don't know it wasn't stolen. The original person might not have reported it, a lot of people don't report stolen/lost phones. You should see if any other manufacture will help you without proof of purchase.

If you didn't reported, it is your problem, not mine. And also, why let me use it for 6 months, and then say we don-t know if it is yours? If you are going to implement a policy like that, do like apple does, and don-t let me use it whatsoever. If that was the case, upon receiving the phone and being asked for a password to unlock it, i could have contacted the seller immediately, and being covered by Paypal, nothing like this would have happened. But don't implement it like this which is very stupid.
Think for a moment. Haven't the phone broke, I could have been using a "stolen" phone forever, but since it broke, that is when they care. Horrible policy.

Well, then it's probably not a borked screen. Maybe if the firmware is corrupted, it's still allowing charging. Idk... it's too bad the pixel doesn't allow hardware reset (like my s5 did. Sometimes that made a difference, when it I messed up and the phone wouldn't boot).

Reviews don't mean much. They can be faked. Bots and the like... I would just avoid buying used electronics, in general... so much can go wrong, even with a brandnew phone. Hardware defects, firmware problems, etc, etc... buying stuff used is a huge risk...
I think you have a couple of options left, assuming you've exhausted all other avenues / troubleshooting;
1. You can bug google more and hope that you encounter someone sympathetic, after explaining that the seller hasn't replied / explaining the situation... some support people are more helpful than others, it might require multiple attempts.
2. You can take your phone to a 3rd party, but authorized google technician... they might have resources/tools not available to you or I... they might be able to determine the problem and fix it (but obviously, it will cost you).
Hello,
I just purchased a HTC U11 Sprint version off ebay and it is google locked. It is on the newest firmware.
I googled around and tried other ways of getting around it, google account manager, but it says "Error" when it should say "Type Email and Password" option.
Is there any way of getting around this? The IMEI is not black listed on the site I checked it. Phone was a return that appears to have not removed the account before they reset it.
Thanks

Next step would be to find the RUU that matches your version and start from there I guess, other than that I wouldn't know.

Your best bet is to return it thru the eBay Returns mechanism. You won't even have to pay postage to return it because it's unusable. Check Swappa for replacement. Likely no cure for this that doesn't cost money.

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried but setup is different from 7.0 to 7.1.1 and it never just bypasses the login step.

contact the owner to give you temp access to his account, remove the account and add yours.
Else only way is to contact ebay or paypal to get a refund and send the device back.

Thanks! I cannot tell who the owner was, it does not show that.
Return shipping is not covered. So if I have to pay shipping, I figured i would look for a paid solution to this and actually found some on kijiji and ebay, reasonably priced.
I went with a local one off kijiji and they remoted to my phone connected to my pc by usb(with the help of some software) and were able to fix it when I put the phone in fastboot mode.
Once I rebooted it, I was good to go!!
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!!
How much did you pay for the service?
So got it cheap on eBay...I get it and notice it's the SM-R890X...which is apparently a version made for Russia and the Caribbean? Anyways, trying to get it to go into connect mode for my phone (Fold 3) only to notice I can't get it working.
Long story short...it's locked into retail mode (even under Bluetooth settings it's visible as "wisebl") and I can't get it out. I can open the Retail Mode app (passcode 5444) and can turn it on or off, but can't delete it or permanently disable it.
Factory Reset under the Retail Mode app also doesn't seem to get rid of it upon rebooting.
If I remove OR disable the app via ADB nothing seems to change, still can't connect to it.
Any thoughts? Seems it might just need a full firmware flash but considering there are none out yet I'm willing to try my options.
I wonder if Samsung would swap you a good one for that one. More than likely that was stolen from a store and I'm willing to bet Samsung wants it back possibly? Idk?
Oh wow I didn't know it had a retail mode, you can't disable it via the galaxy wearable app?

It's probably some kind of Samsung tool they use to enable/disable it that a customer will never have on their PC/phone.
I'd go as far to bet that those few watches in retail mode might not even have the full tech in the watch it's supposed to since it's supposed to be just a demo

Couldn't you take it to a Samsung retail place and provide proof of purchase so they can disable that if able to?

You could but at the same time they could accuse you of stealing it and have the cops called... That's why I suggested contact them first and ask.

Oh okay I get what you're saying. You can verify the IMEI orserial number to make sure it wasn't reported stolen and then go about asking them

Well it seems to have everything hardware wise. Sensors, mic, speaker, Wifi, Bluetooth...software all works surprisingly for a "retail unit". Developer mode, Recovery, ADB Debug, etc. Like, if could just connect to my phone it would be, I'd say, 100% functional...IF I could get it to connect.
No harm no foul though, I'll just return it, sucks cause I got it cheap and if there was a firmware I'd certainly give it a go!

Any news on the subject?
I bought the watch second-hand and I think I got a demo watch ...
I'm desperate, I don't know what to do.
Do we have to wait for a firmware to come out and flash with net odin?

If you bought it on EBay, and it wasn't as described, you have all of the EBay protections available to you; if it was as described, then I don't think anyone here should help you make a stolen watch functional.

It was not stolen.
I bought it from a secondhand deal app that deals with local people. I have no doubt that it is not stolen because the seller blocked me instantly.
I am simply looking for a solution to my problem. I think moral ethics can be set aside.

Wouldn't the seller blocking you instantly indicate that it was stolen? And no, I don't think 'moral ethics' should be set aside so you can enjoy your dubiously procured watch - this is why stuff gets stolen, because some people set 'moral ethics' aside when they see what they think is a deal too good to pass up.
You took a chance; you lost. Suck it up.
Even thinking that the previous post is a bit rude, still I have to agree with the main message - you should ask for local police rather than the forum for help in your situation.
I don't think @jtOttawa post was rude at all, he pointed out the problem really well.
It is quite simple : if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is !

Not rude - angry. He knew what he was buying (or he should have, for a nearly new watch in a second hand marketplace at an unusually low price) - that's why he doesn't go to the police. I have no sympathy for people who buy stolen goods, and it makes me angry when they come here asking for us to help them (this is not the first time I have seen this here).
Ultimately this watch screens stolen.
The reason why I state this is because I've worked with Samsung in retail before. They generally have there retail models and separate demo ones for display.
The retail boxes are white and state the product and state it's for retail only.
looks like you purchased a stolen product. Your best bet is to file for a refund on eBay.
failing maybe Odin might help however I feel that this won't work. As mentioned by previous posters if a offer is to good to be true than it probably is.
a long shot but if you were to report this to Samsung they will probably say you shouldn't have it and provide no further support. You take it into store I would expect the police to be involved
I'm in the same situation, should we wait till a custom firmware is coming up?
