One of the cool features of the newest Samsung devices is video dialing. I haven't been able to get it worrying but recently realized it as because I had VOLTE tuned off in the dialer settings. Turn that feature to on and boom Video Dialing...here is the link to Tmo: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-23590
It's weird, I have all the right settings on..but people I know who have s6,7 won't show as available to video call

I have video calling enabled (volte) and I'm on T-mobile. My gf has hers setup and she's on AT&T....guess what? we can't video call each other. how f***ing cool is that?...such a pos feature. *angry face*

Before i had a droid 3, it wasnt possible to record incoming and outgoing calls. I am owning a Photon Q 4g LTE now, and i was wondering if it works with this device or not?
I have Google Voice, which allows me to record incoming calls.
If you want to record any calls, I'd guess you'd need some sort of an app. There are a few... have you tried any of them?
This one I saw on the front page of xda-devs not too long ago.
There's a bunch on the Play Store as well.
There is also a module for Xposed Framework that allows you to record calls.

Indeed, there are a lot of recorders like that, mut some phones like the droid 3 dont support it. The S3 does support.
I have a Photon Q 4G now, and i was wondering if this phone supports it or not.. If you guyz have this phone, i would appreciate if you could install that app called "" in call recorder "" than go to settings of that app -call recorder settings-Audio Source, and select PHONE LINE.
now make phone call, if it works than i know enough..

Well I have this application, and when I have audio source set to PhoneLine only first couple of seconds is recorded correctly, then recorded voice becomes all squeaky and hardly understandable, but no impact on call quiality. When set to Microphone the other party does not hear me at all. I got a response from the author about my issue, he suggested to use Microphone and higher Gain Level, but I haven't tried it yet. When I do I'll post my results.
Unfortunately no help...
Might be a little non-trivial to set up however using Google-Voice adds the functionality to record calls to this phone..
It is a little tricky to get it working correctly with Sprint in general but well worth it! You can record, then access everything online including texting and calling (using your phones number and plan) from the web..
I know some people may not like using google for things like that but it just works so good...

After enabling VoLTE on my maxx, I lost the ability to use Caller Name ID.
I miss it and was wondering if there are any apps available on the PlayStore that would restore similar functionality. I'm looking for a fully integrative experience - showing caller ID *name* on the incoming call screen, call history, etc
Unrelated, but I when I enable VoLTE, if I'm on a call using speaker, eventually the call boots me off speaker and goes back to the handset earpiece. Every call, eventually. Not at a specific call time, but if it's over 15 or 20 minutes it will. Disable VoLTE, problem gone.

I'm just curious what advantage is seen by VoLTE on the Maxx, which can do voice and data on LTE without VoLTE anyway and won't drop calls when you leave LTE, as Advanced Calling will. Is it the voice quality?
Yeah, improved sound quality (but only when speaking with another VoLTE user).
I'm now on the Droid Turbo so this is even more critical as it doesn't have both radios and can't do simultaneous voice/data if I don't enable VoLTE. I installed the Whitepages Caller ID app and it seems to be an OK workaround. Not as good as the one Verizon loaded (that one integrates much better with the OS) but it'll get me by....
Have anyone get the Advanced Calling 1.0 to work?? I tried and it said the device isn't supported.
It activated for me, but of course I don't know anyone else with the feature, so I can't really test it. I do wonder if calls are a little clearer when calling a landline since those sound better than the heavily-compressed cellular calls.
The HD calls sound absolutely amazing! Its like you're in the same room with the other person. Works on vzw to vzw calls

This feature also allowed you to make a call and use the internet at a same time.
I can make a call and use the internet at the same time on my Moto X 2013 but not on the Note5.
I keep trying to get HD calling activated and it won't work. It says congratulations HD calling is now activated reboot your phone in 5 minutes to enjoy high-definition calling. When I do that and I go back into the advanced calling menu it doesn't give me the options to turn it on or off and takes me back and activation.
I then go into my verizon account and HD calling is not a feature that is able to be added. What am I doing wrong? I have caller ID name deactivated as I understand this feature sometimes won't work with high-definition calling

I have the same problem. I will call Verizon after work.
Same issue
Alright guys I got it to work. You have to call Verizon, you probably have "Decline HD Voice " on your plan (see attachment). Verizon have you remove Decline HD Voice and add the Advanced Calling 1.0 for you.
My just started working without calling Verizon. It finally removed the decline code and added the advanced calling code by itself.... I dunno
VZ has to activate it on there side.
I just switched from the Note 4 on Verizon to the Note 5 on T-mobile; New phone expected to arrive tomorrow.
One thing I saw mentioned here and there about the T-mobile Service is this "Advanced Messaging Service." There is limited information I could find, no real Videos demoing or discussing the feature, but a couple blog post here and there making mention of it.
Has anyone used this feature on the Note 5; If so, how does it function, does it function well, is there any lag between sending and receiving messages, does the Live Presence indication actually work ("Bob is typing" etc.) Any kind of information or feedback on this "Feature" would be appreciated.
Also what is your experience with the WiFi calling? Does it truly sound like HD Voice quality? Any issue switching for WiFi calling to 4G (walking out of the home does the call drop when switching to 4G coverage?)
Only thing I know about advanced messaging service is that you can send files to anyone with a newer samsung phone under 1GB if you register for the service, the T3 Note 4 has the same service. It would be good to send higher quality videos or files to another person

My experience with "Advanced Messaging" Has been terrible. Extreme lag when pulling up the keyboard and trying to type. Lag from when hit send to when message is sent.
It is so bad I will not use the stock messaging app. with advanced messaging turned on.
I can tell you that when the other party is typing you see three or 4 dots in motion - a bit like hangouts indicates the other person is typing.
I don't have any experience to date with WiFi calling.
Not sure if "advance messaging" and Samsung's "simple sharing" are the same, but I will vouch that simple sharing is a feature worth jumping to the note 5 from almost any phone! To be able to send files such as HQ video and photos seamlessly from an sms is crazy nice. If I'm not mistaken, tmobile's advance messaging does not allow large files. One new feature of it is allowing the sender to be notified in real time when the recipient opens or receives the sms successfully!

Where did you find the option to turn on "Advanced Messaging?"
Is it within the settings of the default samsung message app?
I haven't had any trouble with it. I personally like the baked in Video Calling though. The XXXXXXX is typing works perfect for me. No lag with the keyboard as mentioned above (we all use swiftkey though). Picture messaging is cool too. You see a blurred image coming through until it finishes downloading.
I've never gotten Advanced Messaging to work. Stock SMS apps would sometimes not receive group MMS so I have to use 3rd party app.
Wifi-Calling has been great. It works well with HD voice same quality as VoLTE on phones that support it.

If I remember correctly you don't have to do anything to turn advanced messaging on it's just part of the stock messaging app.
The key is in order for it to work you have to be messaging with another device that has advanced messaging as well.
Where is the video calling option on the phone? My note 5 had a feature to do video calls on the phone but I couldn't find it here.
It's on my contacts listing. If I tap on a contact I open it up and I have the phone icon a video camera icon and a messaging icon all beside each other. Also when I'm just looking at the keypad to manually dial a number I have 4 options at the bottom. Voicemail, The Call button, a video camera button, and then the "hide keypad" button.
Are you on Tmobile? I got it from sprint, and I dont have that video option, i had tmo on my note 5 before

Yeah, I'm on T-Mobile. I love T-Mobile. Now if they would let us use the FM chip.

Agree.... It seems odd that they dont since it would only be relieving network congestion since they already dont charge for data to most of the popular streaming music services.

I'm on T-Mobile as well, and yes, this is a T-Mobile feature. I much prefer Google Hangouts video calling because it not only uses the same network (obviously) but is fullscreen. The T-Mobile video calling is not fullscreen. At least it's there as a backup, or for those that do not use Google Hangouts. :good:
Facebook messenger has video calls also.

I agree. With Hangouts I can do video calls with the family that hasn't left the S4's and S5s yet.
I can confirm that the AT&T variant of the S7 does have video calling.
Definitely isn't a t-mobile thing. I'm with att and I have the video call option. I'm just trying to figure out if it's only a galaxy thing or if it's gonna be a new Android update thing. I just got my galaxy s7.

Not seeing it on sprint
Where do you enable it? I have the s7edge on tmobile and can't find it. I used it on my s5 & s6.
I have VZW, and my wife has ability to video call me, but I can't to her unless she calls me then I could quickly call her back using video. What I did was create a new contact with her number on the phone locally and the new contact was able to allow me to video call her. I looked at her normal contact and it was now there. Not sure what happened, but it fixed it and I deleted the local contact.
