Does anyone know how to root the Note 5 on marshmallow?
Guide On How to Root Sprint stock Marshmallow
1. Download and place on internal storage -- > BETA-SuperSU-v2.68-20160228150503.zip
2. Download custom TWRP beta test version for MM -- > twrp-3.0.0-1-M-test4-nobleltespr.tar.tar
3. Flash TWRP custom recovery with Odin (same instructions as rom flash apply).
Reboot into custom recovery and flash SuperSU and reboot.
You may get a kernel panic on first reboot, just hot boot the phone by holding pwr + volume/down.
Thanks!
Thanks @dmbstyle! Finally found the correct version of twrp!

I feel like there's alot. Missing here.. I'm new to this so I need a little more in depth. Do I have my phone off while flashing the twrp in Odin.. Do I need oem unlock on or off etc.
Are the above files still usable with the sprints latest software update bpd1 for note5?

while the cf autoroot thread and also the older recovery thread gets some questions that don't have anything to do with the thread I make this thread
OK...here it is: only for people with 5.1.1 G925F (should work with 5.0.2 F also) the G925I seems also fine
be sure to copy my kernel zip and also the super su zip to sdcard (phone) before you flash the recovery via odin, otherwise you got bootloop (because of system write protection-new with 5.1.1)
Kernel (flash with twrp) : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347765201
Super SU (flash with twrp) : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347765203
and TWRP 2.8.7.1 (flash with ODIN) : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347765202
after all that you get the normal system warning (the old one also on 5.0.2) delete Securitylogagent and reboot

some more things to know
you should have a g925F
1. copy kernel and super su zip to sd card
2. flash recovery with odin (ap) (set dont reboot in odin) (go into download mode)
3. manual reboot with vol down home and power...you will see the download mode again...but press cancel....in the time of reboot press vol up + power + home..you will get into recovery...now flash both zips
4. done
if something wrong flash your firmware again (if theres a problem by fail ...blocked by rl ..simply deactivte reactivation lock in samsung account)

yes root, kernel, recovery and Rom flash will trip Knox..anyway got my digitizer replaced while Knox was tripped.. so it's maybe different in countrys..my last phone was a HTC.. got it replaced and the ( new ) phone was already bootloader unlocked..which you can do but you must do it manually with HTC development site..

Thanks for your reply.
Am having this issue after root, please find attach screenshot.
Also i enable guest mode, so i was thinking if i flash the stock rom on my devic to unroot if it will remove the guest mode feature.
I dont want root but i want to keep the guest mode. How can i go about it?
i have problem installing custom roms... can anybody help me?
Steps I follow:
1- With Stock ROM (bootloader and modem correct for custom rom) without custom recovery.
2- OEM unlock activated in developers settings
3- Flash TWRP recovery 3.0.2-4 with Odin 3.12.3
4- In TWRP recovery, swype for do modifications
5- Wipe - Format Data - Write "yes" (tried 4 or 5 times)
6- Reboot to recovery again (tried without this)
7- Flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-4.1 from OTB USB (internal storage tried too)... no errors
8- Reboot to recovery (tried without this)
9- Flash custom rom from OTG USB (internal storage tried too)
10- samsung logo and nothing...
I think the problem is with the encryption of the folder /data but it is assumed that the no-verity-opt-encrypt-4.1 file disables encryption.
i tried Superman rom and The Galaxy project, last versions.

the problem is installing custom roms, root is possible. But thanks
I have the same problem with most all the roms that I have tried. Superman and Phoenix are not working but TheGalaxyProject is.
I think there is something Samsung has done with the latest firmware that makes it impossible to install custom roms. And nobody in this forum knows it yet

Thanks dude this rom is amazing i'am impressed by your work .:good:
Cons/bugs:
1) No otg support ( otg is not important for me)
Pros:
1)Ram availability is upto 1300 (in original rom i got 700 to 800).
2) More internal space: After installation this rom takes 1gb of space only.
3) It has OpenGl es 3.1 good for graphics/gaming.
4) SE linux can be changed between permissive and enforcin .(i used app for that)
i guess thats all i found so far but this rom is great fo my device (Huawei y6 pro Tit-al00)
again thanks Abidulla and thankyou Xda.
Don't I have to wipe cache, wipe data, format mount in the process of installing this Rom?

Thank you for the instruction. I have been looking for a solution.
I finally managed to get TWRP and root installed. However, there seems to be a couple of issues:
a) It is not able to detect the microsd card. The option to mount the microsd is not available.
b) when clearing cache, there is a message, unable to find /cache partition.
From completing Step 2, it booted into TWRP, however instead of choosing 'Swipe to allow modification', I selected ' Keep read only'. Not sure if this contributes less than 100% TWRP installation.
However, I tried to install TWRP again, but the first boot screen where it has the option to 'Keep read only' and 'Swipe to allow modification' is not there anymore.
In any case, I would like to know
i) if the selection 'Keep read only' is correct or 'swipe to allow modification'?
ii) how can I fix the TWRP installation?
Many thanks.

Hello,
At which stage do you have a bootloop?
I just followed the steps and all work fine...
Why so complicated setup?
1. flash stock ROM via fastboot
2. fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1.img
3. install magisk 15.1
4. reboot to system
If first boot takes more than 2-3 minutes, hold power off button until phones restarts, second start will take the usual time.

At the time of writing, the latest version of Magisk was 14.6. It is now 15.1, and you can use that one if you wish.
Yes, update, and make sure that after it is done, you are at build number N2G47H.7.12.19. Then you can root again as you will be at the latest stable Nougat build.

i checked my version. it is N2G47H.7.12.19 for sure. I unlock bootloader and i boot into recovery-3.1.1-1.img
then i flash twrp-mia1-installer-tissot-3.2.1.0 and boot into system but there is a boot loop.
i did not install magisk to determine where the problem is.
Edit -- problem solved. I did nothing new but it went right this time! thanks guys all of you!! Cheers

I would not flash the actual TWRP unless you really need it with you at all times on the phone. I just boot into it when I need it. With TWRP installed, it's most likely that you won't get OTA updates.

Is it Magisk 15.1 or 14.6? Th guide says we need 14.6.
plus did you flash twrp installer.zip?

After fastboot flashing the ROM the phone reboots to system. It shows a small 63 mb update. Should i update or leave it and follow the steps?

15.1 and don't install TWRP, just boot it and don't allow system modifications or you won't be able to apply OTA.

unlocking bootloader is necessary and during unlocking the bootloader your phone must be formatted and your data will lost you and internal too.
so you have to backup all your data and music and whatever you are keeping.
Ater unlocking you have to flash PTWRP from the fastboot command and imultaneously boot to TWRP then flash magisk and done your phone is now rooted.
Your data will be lost.
