u need to download full recovery zip file (when an update available) & flash via twrp
small sized ota updates cannot be installed with a custom recovery

unlocking bootloader is necessary and during unlocking the bootloader your phone must be formatted and your data will lost you and internal too.
so you have to backup all your data and music and whatever you are keeping.
Ater unlocking you have to flash PTWRP from the fastboot command and imultaneously boot to TWRP then flash magisk and done your phone is now rooted.
Your data will be lost.

i cant not install custom roms!

i have problem installing custom roms... can anybody help me?
Steps I follow:
1- With Stock ROM (bootloader and modem correct for custom rom) without custom recovery.
2- OEM unlock activated in developers settings
3- Flash TWRP recovery 3.0.2-4 with Odin 3.12.3
4- In TWRP recovery, swype for do modifications
5- Wipe - Format Data - Write "yes" (tried 4 or 5 times)
6- Reboot to recovery again (tried without this)
7- Flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-4.1 from OTB USB (internal storage tried too)... no errors
8- Reboot to recovery (tried without this)
9- Flash custom rom from OTG USB (internal storage tried too)
10- samsung logo and nothing...
I think the problem is with the encryption of the folder /data but it is assumed that the no-verity-opt-encrypt-4.1 file disables encryption.
i tried Superman rom and The Galaxy project, last versions.
have you tried rooting your phone using this guide

the problem is installing custom roms, root is possible. But thanks
I have the same problem with most all the roms that I have tried. Superman and Phoenix are not working but TheGalaxyProject is.
I think there is something Samsung has done with the latest firmware that makes it impossible to install custom roms. And nobody in this forum knows it yet

Thank you for the instruction. I have been looking for a solution.
I finally managed to get TWRP and root installed. However, there seems to be a couple of issues:
a) It is not able to detect the microsd card. The option to mount the microsd is not available.
b) when clearing cache, there is a message, unable to find /cache partition.
From completing Step 2, it booted into TWRP, however instead of choosing 'Swipe to allow modification', I selected ' Keep read only'. Not sure if this contributes less than 100% TWRP installation.
However, I tried to install TWRP again, but the first boot screen where it has the option to 'Keep read only' and 'Swipe to allow modification' is not there anymore.
In any case, I would like to know
i) if the selection 'Keep read only' is correct or 'swipe to allow modification'?
ii) how can I fix the TWRP installation?
Many thanks.
Good Job bro

Hello,
At which stage do you have a bootloop?
I just followed the steps and all work fine...
Why so complicated setup?
1. flash stock ROM via fastboot
2. fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1.img
3. install magisk 15.1
4. reboot to system
If first boot takes more than 2-3 minutes, hold power off button until phones restarts, second start will take the usual time.

At the time of writing, the latest version of Magisk was 14.6. It is now 15.1, and you can use that one if you wish.
Yes, update, and make sure that after it is done, you are at build number N2G47H.7.12.19. Then you can root again as you will be at the latest stable Nougat build.

I would not flash the actual TWRP unless you really need it with you at all times on the phone. I just boot into it when I need it. With TWRP installed, it's most likely that you won't get OTA updates.

15.1 and don't install TWRP, just boot it and don't allow system modifications or you won't be able to apply OTA.

Same problem. I flashed stock boot image. Attempted to update but failed. Relocked bootloader to make sure system is untouched. Booted normally which means system is not modified. Tried to update again and same error. It occurs halfway of step 1 when installing.
Sometimes stock boot image is not enough, so just flash the whole thing in mi flash tool, lol
If it has something to do with Magisk modules, try flashing the magisk uninstaller in twrp first then let system boot first, before flashing stock boot img

Android P Installation with TWRP

Hi, how do I install the latest android P on my oneplus 6? I have an unlocked bootloader with twrp installed but not rooted.
Download the P zip via OnePlus forums, flash it through the update section in settings and wipe the phone via recovery. It will wipe TWRP though and replace it with stock recovery.

When u say back to twrp menu you mean after reboot to recovery and then to install twrp.zip or in the same session to install twrp twice?

Flash through ex kernel manager app
If the kernel uses "any kernel" then go to magisk and flash magisk one more time aswell, reboot.
What your saying is that you can't boot to twrp in any way? Not even with phone off and volume down? If not, reinstall twrp (I recommend blu_spark)

@Pepinow Power off your phone. Hold vol up and power, that will take you to fastboot. From there use the vol keys to show recovery at the top then boot to it. This is of course assuming you flashed the twrp zip when first installing it

How to install stock recovery without losing data?

I am using Peter's recovery and wish to go back to stock recovery as installing ota is tiring. How can I do that without losing data and files?
If you are using official MIUI ROM, dirty flashing full recovery ROM will also overwrite custom recovery with stock recovery.

are you rooted?
if ues then just unroot using magisk unistaller and reboot it will restore stock recovery then use ota to update then again you can flash twrp peter recovery by fastboot and boot in to recovery and then flash magisk it will again have both recovery and root
my device shows encrypted status

Just download the fast boot rom from the official website and flash it by mi flash tool.
And during flashing it select flash all except data.
And you will lose nothing and your recovery will be restored.
Then you can flash ota by that.

Ok... I will try this... wating for new update that i can verify it too.
Thanks
I have one solution
simple
just things needed are:
1. miui stock recovery img
2. vbmeta
next,
1. First flash recovery image.
2. Then flash vbmeta image.
what does vbmeta do. it actually saves the recovery image after flashing new recovery.
3. Finished reboot
