Terrible battery life on Cyanogen 13 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Flashed cm13 a few days ago and have been getting awful battery life. Usually on Chroma (ROM) I was getting 2-3 hours SOT, with CM13 I can barely get past 1.30hrs, it dies at 1hr. Is this normal or expected because its a nightly?
Thanks

You likely have high-power consumption features enabled. You may want to try another nightly but I have never noticed such a battery drain with CM nightlies or any other custom rom.
Did you compare the idle battery drain?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I flashed Hellscore Kernel and battery life is much better. I'm getting around 2-3hours SOT now. Thanks again

Glad to see that your SOT returned to normal but switching to another kernel shouldn't have a huge impact for your battery life (FYI).
There was probably something else, like wakelocks or bugs in CM kernel.

I have CM13 for aprox half year and last few days I have this terrible battery drain. Now I have cm-13.0-20160325-NIGHTLY. Its really annoying, have no wakelocks, batterystats says that most power is consumed by system and surfaceflinger. I dont know if I have to wait for another update or try to restore phone or what. Is there anybody else with the same problem?

You my friend , are a victim of a nasty bug of android 6+ . that battery drain is caused by wifi
Go to location setting , and turn wifi scanning off . it might (70%) fix it .

Terrible Battery Life underclocked on GB

I can't get more than 1.5 hours screen on time without draining my battery. I did a full wipe and clean install of Bugless Beast with GlaDOS kernel and I'm underclocked to 880 MHz. 1.5 hours screen time and maybe 20 minutes talk!!! What's going on here?! Does anybody have a clue what' wrong with my phone?
I would first try another ROM, close to stock I would suggest Oxygen 2.3.2 with the stock kernel if you want to stay on GB. If it still drains your battery that fast your battery may be dying. If it lasts waaaay longer you'll know there's something wrong with your ROM and/or Kernel combo...
You can try ReCaliberating your Battery, but it probably won't help, your battery could be screwed up... Try getting a new one if you can and see what happens?

Great advice I was going to suggest Oxygen too, but version 2.3.1 instead, because for many people including myself 2.3.2 was not as stable.
I used Oxygen 2.3.1 coupled with glados, used to have 30 hours+ on a single charge.
Please check if your phone signal is always weak. Weak signals eat your battery up since the phone works harder to stay connected.
As the guys also suggested wipe the battery stats. download battery calibration from the market and fullow instructions.
Gd luck
I just ordered a new battery though... not a stock one but it was rated high on Amazon.

It's probably because Sprint's network sucks and your phone is dying while trying to find a damn signal from their crappy network. When I'm out and about, my phone lasts about half as long with the same usage. If I'm at home and connected to WiFi, I'll have great battery life.
just wanted to know y would u underclock ur phone?? wouldnt that make it slow???
try nexusshacks.com... great roms..

Not really. And as far as the network connection about 10% of the time I'm without a signal according to my battery stats. I don't know if that would drain it that much.

[Q] Problem with battery consumption with Team Venom's ViperS 5.1.0 rom

Hey,
because I have fewer than 10 posts so far I can't write in the rom development thread and need to post here although it is the wrong place.
So I installed ViperS 5.1.0 rom on my sensation two days ago and calibrated the battery after loading to 100%. Did two fully discharge/charge cycles after that
Now I let the mobile phone untouched from tonight ~0 am till morning ~6 am and checked the battery stats. It went from 95% to 78% in 6 hours of idle. Wifi and mobile data options were on but it gets automatically disabled over night, atleast it was when I woke up the phone at 6 am the first time.
That's almost 3%/h while at sleep and seems high for me. Anyone running the same rom and can check the consumption?
Thanks in advance.

I just searched the rom thread and found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51020469&postcount=5994
His battery stays at the same level for over 6 hours over night and with wifi on.
I just made a screen of mine for comparison and I hope I can get some help.

since you have done only two charges i suggest to wait a little more
for example 2-3 more circle charges
then battery will settle down and you will be able to see how it behaves
also how old is you battery and what battery you have?

Do you have a lot of sync to Facebook, Twitter, weather and mail?
You could try to undervolt a bit in tweaks.
Remember to run through a couple of complete charges befor you can see how your battery life is.
And last, perhaps your need a new battery.

Weather once a day. Furthermore dropbox, google and whatsapp if they matter.
I will wait 2-3 more charge cycles then before trying something like UC/UV or even new battery. I hope it won't be needed.
whatsapp - Battery Killer
I saved up a lot of battery by uninstalling g+ and google now, not freezing them or hibernating

[Q] Abnormal (?) battery life

I'm using Cyanogenmod 11 M5 on a D820 32GB. Lately I've noticed that idle battery life is not as it should be; I got frustrated enough last night that I wiped everything and left it sitting. Battery started at 82% and dropped to 63% with about 15min of SOT::

This doesn't feel right; as I recall from when the phone was new (and as I have seen others talking about), standby time is supposed to be great. Is this normal?
I'm flashing stock right now; I'll see if that helps.

Show us some BBS logs. Most likely CM issue though. More precisely, the CM kernel. But without BBS, it's just speculation.

Okay. I'll try this with stock Android and see what happens. If it's not better, I'll post BBS logs for it too.
I also think it's CM's fault, and if this happens with stock as well, you may have a faulty battery.
I usually get 1 hour SOT/20%, give or take 10 minutes.
I can get this with my usage patterns, obviously this is going to change (for better or worse) depending on how you use and configure your phone.

Are these drops considered normal? They always happen around the ~30% mark and goes down 3 to 5% per drop, suddenly.
You may use Battery Calibrater. But it is not necessary that it will work, this may also be battery problem. I am facing the same problem since a week. My battery is a year old and now its battery life is reduced much.
Try your luck or google for more about calibrating battery.
Actually my battery life is good as ever, it just seems to be reading the gage wrong.

I have this problem too, and can't find solution. I think it has something to do with rooting the phone, because it happened for me since then
It would help if you guys state the ROM you use.

Stock 4.4.4 (I have the 1st gen LTE)
When the battery reaches around 60 ~ 55 % it's starting to update itself every ~5% so I can use my phone intensively for some time, and it will stuck on the same percentage or drop 1-2% and after a while it drops 5% instantly.
Another thing that happens to me is when the battery reaches 95% while charging it's jumping straight to 100% and after a few hours drains to 95% instantly.
This problem doesn't seem to affect battery life, just annoying. I just got 5.5h screen time yesterday.

Prior to 4.4.3 there was a serious bug related to the Battery Sensor. Some measurement quirks where introduced as a result of the fix included in 4.4.3 / 4.4.4. This is what you are seeing and why you are seeing it.

my LTE came with 4.4.3 so I don't think that's the problem, I never had the famous "drop" to 1% only the issues i described before.
Thanks anyway!

According to gsmarena Moto G LTE shipped with Android 4.4.2. The same behaviour occurs with non-LTE Moto G running 4.4.3 or newer - it seems likely that the fix applied there was also included in LTE's 4.4.3 / 4.4.4 firmware.

Question Battery Life

I am interested in this battery performance? What SOT are you getting? What do you get for battery time the medium power saver mode?
Any screen shots are appreciated.
It's on Friday and I feel like the first 48 hours it was draining pretty quick. I upgraded from the OnePlus 6t and I certainly feel the slower charge.
Waiting for it to fully discharge and then I'm going to give it a full charge and then I will post my battery stats after seeing how long it lasts.
Full charge before bed last night .. and I drove around a bit today with it plugged in for about 30 minutes. Going to bed now at around 50%. Not going to charge until tomorrow.

I am still trying to figure out if I have a battery drain issue. I am getting the same usage as what I did as my A70. After full charge it says it will last around 22 hours. Usage is the same as with my A70, not sure if that is right.

Standby uses about 1% for every two hours for me with Always On Display. That is always my benchmark even for my last Samsung. There's something using battery wildly if it goes too high after some many hours or even within one hour.
A hint there, try rebooting 3 times in an hour or so. My last Samsung had an issue where normally one reboot would fix the battery drain but it would every now and then require two more to fix the drain.
The battery use stats might help you narrow down to something but if not then you have to factory reset or disable or remove stuff. If its with the rom then it gets more difficult.
If you are seeing the 1% standby for even an hour or two then it should be fine there and the drain is only while the screen is on.
You might also be able to spot certain things the the logcat.
Thank you for your reply. I will try to reboot it. I have done a factory reset but it hasn't helped. I will test it for a few days.
I have 9hours Screen On Time on a pixel experience rom.
AOSP does wonders to this device.

You never know. Funny how much reboots fix things that shouldn't need fixing in the first place
