Help identifying indicator icon - Samsung Gear S2

My phone has had random vibrations lately (Note 5) and I think I've narrowed it down to something with the connection to my Gear S2. Everytime I feel the random vibration on my phone, my gear s2 turns on and has this indicator at the very top. It looks like a small watch. I couldn't find the indicator in the manual so I'm hoping someone here knows and can help me!
If I catch it quick enough, I think I see it connecting to WIFI, so I'm thinking it's my bluetooth breaking down. Is there a fix for this? Should I disable the remote WIFI connection?
I've included a pic of the indicator icon.

Mine does that every time it goes into standalone. I have the s2 3g. If I lose bluetooth it falls back on remote connect.

does it happen often to you? Seems like there is no rhyme of reason to it. I think I notice it more when my phone is connected to wifi at home, but I think I've noticed it at other times too. Wondering if turning off the remote connection would help. I hear the Note 5 has bluetooth issues too, but it works fine in my car and with headphones at the gym, so I think it's something going on with the gear s2

def confirmed it's my bluetooth disconnecting. Quite annoying. Any fixes for this yet?

It did, but since I've changed roms I've noticed it less. Maybe once a day now.

[Q] Wierd happenings

Has anyone else noticed either one of these happening with their G2X? Mine randomly shows in the status bar that there is a wired headset connected. Also when using "2G Networks Only" the signal drops out very often. I can stand in one spot where my 2g signal dropped out, switch it to 4g and get immediate reception. This is kinda pissing me off because i use 2g more often at work when I'm not using data for anything other than texts and g talk so as to save battery. Any info reported back will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!
Ok so this is really starting to aggravate me. The wired headset icon randomly appears in the status bar now, especially when using the phone for a little while. Just had it come on while i was on a phone call. Has anyone else had this happen to them. Please help a guy out with your findings?
Bump. Your input please?
I think you're the first to report this one, I've never seen it mentioned before. I'd trying actually playing with some hard-wired headphones to see if the phone recognizes their presence accurately. If it doesn't I'd guess hardware. What happens if while the wired headphone icon is showing you connect it to a Bluetooth headset? All else fails, see if it happens again after a reset and if it does that would confirm it's hardware.
I actually did plug in headphones today and they worked. I know that shocked me too . I have not tried to connect BT or anything else when it happens so i guess thats next. I'm open for any suggestions, cuz i really dont want to play the swap game but if I have to.......

[Q] What bugs have you noticed?

So far the only thing that is bothering me is the wallpaper. It keeps switching back to the default after I change it. Also, text messages have been failing to send and I have never seen that before. I have a micro cell so its not a network connection issue. Other than that its all aces so far.
I've had it a little over 24 hours now. The only problem I've had is with Tango. It seems to be a problem with various Samsung phones and the update that Tango just did. The video from the front camera is turned 90 degrees. It also zooms way in, so they may only see your lips. My sound is a bit low, too. It's on the forum over there and the engineers say they are aware of the problem and are working on it.
I've come across a (possible) WiFi issue with two separate devices in the past week. Lets say I join my home WiFi network and I decide to head to work. Once I get to work, I join that network. Now, when I leave work and go back home, the Infuse won't automatically pick up the home network again until I manually turn off the WiFi and turn it back on. Only then will it finally switch over and join the network. It seems to do this regardless of where I'm going and where I've been.
While I'm not sure this is an issue with the phone or my service here in town, but I seem to be either timing out on data connections a lot or having extremely slow speeds over the network. This wasn't ever a problem with my Inspire, iPhone, or any other device have carried.

I am noticing same said WIFI Issue.
I also have a wifi issue. I have 3 other phones in my household. My wifi is with ATT U-Verse. All the other phones connect to the wifi perfectly fine and holds the connection (iphone, droid incredible, droid x)
However, when I try to connect to my Wifi through my Infuse, it'll connect for about 2 minutes, and then cut off. The wifi signal will still show that it's active with full bars but nothing that requires data will work (ie browser, app store, email, youtube etc).
Since I am unable to connect to wifi, I have to put it back to H+. This isnt good because I only have the 2gb plan and i download a bunch of apps and watch a bunch of movies on it all the time.
Is anyone else having this problem?
I cant get the front camera to work on fring.....

the auto brightness turns back on all the time. the notification bar is also a brightness adjustment if auto brightness is off, just hold the bar till the pulldown dissapears and move your finger to the right. it will get brighter. i used this a lot on the captivate, having auto self turn on is quite annoying.

app drawer
I am having an issue that the TouchWiz app drawer will open and it will be completely black. About a second later a little spinning progress icon will appear and about 4 seconds or so after that it will finally populate, sometimes out of order.
I have been a fan of LauncherPro and used it on my N1 prior, so I installed it on the Infuse and have not had any problems. Its a good thing I hate the TouchWiz launcher anyway, otherwise this would annoy me.
I noticed that the power button isn't real responsive when I got to unlock the phone.
The stock browser for was a nightmare!!!!scrolling isnt smooth, and it wont resize the text good.any one else had that problem? Now i use dolphin hd and launcher pro and it works great!!!! Oh yeah, i couldnt get the front cam to work on yahoo.
First over night charge last night and when I took it off the charger this morning it was at 84%. It didnt completely charge to 100%. I had to finish charging it in the car on the way to work. If this happens again, unfortunately I'd have to return this device. Battery seems to drain fast as well for me. This device sort of reminds me of the droid x.
I also have had the wifi not automatically connecting happen sometimes. It has also done that for my Bluetooth radio as well. I have to turn off my bluetooth and turn back nor, or have to connect it manually.

yeah it seems the device mapping in the kernel is a little funky. fring uses the wrong camera as well
Not sure if it's a bug or not but I tried GPS on the Infuse at AT&T store today. The Infuse got a lock for 10-15 secs then lost the lock and not able to get a lock again. The Atrix and the Inspire next to it didn't have this problem.

samsung still has funky stuff going on with gps. though this phone has vastly upgraded hardware you can make improvements still.
there is an app that you access through a dialer code called lbs test mode. im not sure what the code is so i use launcher pro activities to launch it. that has gps settings.
there is also a config file called secgps.conf. i think this is a secondary config for it to fall back on. i set this file up to match lbs tset mode and get better results. i also turn off "use wireless networks" in settings>location and security
it seems verizon had a more seemless implimentation of these things on the fascinate. though it's raw gps output is not so good.
it seems like if the quality of one location mode isnt good enough on a captivate or the infuse it switches to another location service and starts from scratch. this can cause more issues than poor performance. the more you limit the options for the system on gps the better it works on these phones. i can even get a captivate to track flawlessly despite its weeknesses in accuracy.
My lockscreen keep loosing the pattern even though I set it, this could be related to widgetlocker though i doubt it because when I change from pattern to pin it now works. This thread is the reason why I left samsung before, I am hoping that this phone proves to be different....to be honest short of the lock screen thing and the struggle I have with battery life this seems to have 1 upped the captivate. OOhhh also I changed the screen density I can't stand that 240 density they create trying to be like apple icons etc wayy too big.

Moto X Play WiFi Performance Issues

Hey guys, got my Moto X Play delivered on Tuesday and so far I'm loving nearly every aspect of it, the camera and the large battery are definitely an improvement over the Moto X 2014 that I upgraded from. However, one issue that seems to keep bothering me is the wifi. Basically it seems to constantly drop the connection for no reason at all, my Internet at home is provided by virgin media and the virgin hub is in modem mode and I'm using a TRENDnet router to broadcast wifi. No other devices in the house seem to have any issues connecting with this setup.
The moto x play seems to connect fine to both the 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks but after a couple of minutes they just seem to loose signal. The wifi icon in the status bar doesn't change to imply that this has happened but chrome or Netflix, etc will just get very unresponsive. The phone has been restarted several times since I got it, I have also tried 'forgetting' the network and re-entering the password (on both 5 and 2.4ghz) and I have also tried the setting in lollipop to change the wifi type from auto to 5ghz only and to 2.4ghz only but nothing seems to have any effect. Does this sound like teething problems that could settle down to anyone else or does it sound like a faulty device?
Has anyone else had any issues with this phone?
I had these issues when I bought my tablet and thought maybe it was the tablet. Then I tested the tablet at my brother house who had different service provider and it worked fine.
So maybe give it a go at a resturant or a friends house and see what happens.
P.S I was with Virgin Media aswell when I had these issues no idea if they are connected.

Thanks Geordie Affy, i'm actually going to be at my parents this weekend so i'll give it a go on there and see if the situation improves
Hoping it settles down as i really don't want to go to the effort of returning it to amazon
Its most likely your router not your phone causing these issues.
No problem ... keep us posted [emoji106]

Ok so, bit of an update.
We had a visit to the mother in laws last night and i tested this issue with their wifi (provided by BT, using all original BT equipment) and still got the same issue. I'm concerned now that this is a problem with the handset.
Any other thoughts on what could be causing it or what i could try to cure it?
Another bit of info i've discovered recently is that even on 5ghz when connected to wifi the phone really seems to struggle to multitask (from a web perspective) i.e. if i'm updating apps on the play store i can't successfully browse the web on chrome and vice versa.

I want to confirm that I have wifi issues too. Just received my device and wifi it's not working. I never had any issues with other devices in my house and I have lots of them. Phone seems to be scanning indefinitely.
Have a look if you have the same exclamation mark over the wifi icon?!
Any updates on your device so far?
No, mine is even more frustrating in that the icon remains the same whether I'm connected or not. I've spoken to a guy at Motorola on live chat this morning and as I'd done all the things he had suggested already he recommended doing a factory reset. At least that's one of the big advantages of this phone is that I can backup all my stuff to my sd card and eject it before reseting. Should make it a whole lot easier.
The only thing that seems to have made any kind of difference, and really, it could just be coincidence (as I don't know how these things work at a scientific level) but I reset the router this morning I. E. Turned it off waited a minute or two and turned it back on again and that seemed to improve things slightly. In fact I thought it had cured it as this morning I was unable to even get through one song on Spotify but since the reset I managed to get through an album and a b8t before the connection borked. Since then the signal had dropped out once or twice but not on the same scale as before.
Debating whether to bother with the factory reset now...
I somehow got my wifi working but now I am browsing and whole browsing experience no matter what website I am in is stuttering and lagging .Simple browsing in Google Play store remains the same jerky ,same thing observed on facebook app.
Even my friends Sony M works much smoother. I have tried both H+ 4g and wifi performance very inconsistent. Don't know what to think
Wifi is definitely slower on my Moto X Play than it was on my Galaxy S6. Just going by memory (which could be wrong), I want to say that my LG G3 and Galaxy S5 had better wifi than the X Play too. I only had it for half a day, but the 3rd gen Moto G even seemed better.
I do have an odd issue with the wifi that is annoying but easily fixable (thankfully). Every time the phone boots up, I get the exclamation mark over the wifi icon and it just runs off my mobile data. If I toggle the wifi off and back on, then it connects properly to the wifi and no more exclamation mark. I have to do this every time I restart the phone though.
Hopefully an update will fix this.
How odd it is . I was playing with Moto G 3 gen and it was smoother that Moto X play.
What I am now finding strange is at my parents the wifi has seemed fine! However amazon are already sending me a replacement unit today. Not sure what to do now.

Yeah I thought it would be the case. Had issues like this but never figured out why it happened tbh. Fortunarlely after a couple of months we changed our internet to BT and worked a treat (Minus BT going down haha)

I've had issues with this as well. Appears to be connected but no data transmits while every other device works fine. Only happening on one old router not all. May have something to do with Motorola dropping the "ac" WiFi standard on this phone. More annoying is the phone being slow to pick up a cellular signal after leaving WiFi. I've had this happen often and for as long as 5 minutes.
I got my Motorola x play about two weeks and I've just noticed a few Wi-Fi issues. I'm connecting it too the super hub router provided by virgin media on the 5ghz signal and it was fine when I noticed if I held the phone by the top half in the palm of my hand instead of the bottom half, the signal strength shown by the icon in the top right hand corner would drop by half. Is anyone aware if the phones Wi-Fi aerial is on the upper reaches of the phone?
I too have noticed this. Thought it was all in my head which is why I hadn't mentioned it previously lol.
I haven't so far been able to replicate the issues you guys are facing with WiFi. Performance seems to be in general at least on par with my late Galaxy S4.
Sent from my XT1562 using XDA Free mobile app
This could also be a Android 5.x issue. I'm facing similar problems on my LG G2 running SlimLP. WiFi and also cellular seems to be dropping for no apparent reason and I have to manually reconnect. Interestingly though, my Nexus 7 WiFi 2013 doesn't have these issues running UberCM 5.1.1.
other problems with WiFi.
I have this strange problems. See if someone else has the same.
I used googled maps for GPS me to destination. When I am driving WiFi cut off and the phone use data. When I am arrive at destination. I go to McDonald. The phones can't connect to free WiFi at McDonald's. Even this is a saved network. I turn off then on the WIFI, still not connect.

S2 BT and WIFI - Connectivity

How is everyone finding the S2 bluetooth and wifi connectivity, I find it considerably worse than my old Gear 2.
Bluetooth at best is good for 10 meters with line of sight, but at home barely 5 meters when moving into other rooms.
The WIFI connect is also hopeless can connect when sat in front of the router by move into another room and it's gone.
Done a few wipes and clean installs but issue remains.
Trying to gauge if it's just generally worse or I have an issue.
Be lucky that you have five meters. When i have my phone on my right side and my watch on my left hand both direct next to my i lost the connection.
Oh no sorry to hear, but suspect it's a design issue affecting all S2.
Annoying at with my Gear 2 it was great and I hoped with WIFI it would be even better.
I've NO problems with BlueTooth and/or WiFi on my Gear S2 Classic!
When phone is in the living room, and I'm going upstairs (1st floor) with doors closed, I've still a stable BT-connection!
Much, much, much better then my previous smartwatch: LG Urbane!
Yea I have had no issues with my WiFi or BT. Good connections while at work or home.
No issues here. I home I've never been disconnected aside from the few second switch over from BT to wifi.
At work I leave my phone at my desk and move throughout the large building with no issues from the wifi.
Sent from my SM-N915V using Tapatalk
Absolutely no issues here as well. The range actually is longer than any watch I've ever owned.
Thanks think I'll test some more (might be just at home new build so designed like a Faraday cage) then send to Samsung.
Also at my side no problems. BT connection works flawlessly up to around 20 meters in sight or 10-12 with walls between. WiFi is comparable with my Note4.

remote connect via wifi not working - only BT

Hey guys!
Is there any way to force remote connection using wifi instead of BT? For some reason, my phone + gear s3 doesnt connect remotely anymore .. It can only connect via BT. It started happening today. Last night it was fine.
I go to my basement all the time and my BT disconnects due to distance (if i left my phone).
Now im worried its probably a defect. Both my phone and s3 are in the same wifi network. I tried using a different wifi network as well.
Thanks in advanced.

Im trying now.
I don't remember my S3 ever remotely connecting via WiFi. It would do it over the cellular network once I breezed out of Bluetooth range, but it never told me about WiFi.
In fact, the remote connection via cellular is awfully intermittent. The only thing that seems to restore it is a reset of the S3. Even after that, though, I've never seen mine remotely connect on WiFi.
The whole remote connection thing seems to be dicey at best, in my experience.

I have the opposite mine seems to connect remote over wifi just fine but not really over cell connection.. i have not tested tho.. i will today and update you guys.
Yeah I have never seen it connect to the Phone via WiFi... only via BT. If the watch loses range, it will connect to a Wifi (if it is enabled, Always on or Auto), but would not communicate with the phone. So it's "Standalone, but with wifi".
It worked like this out of the box. Bought the GearS3 in the US. I'm not sure if connecting to phone via wifi is even possible....
I can confirm that it does connect via WiFi although I was totally unaware that it could.
Yesterday I returned to my house from visiting my daughters house and realised I didn't have my phone. Thinking that I had dropped my phone in the car I used my house phone to call my mobile and my S3 on my wrist started ringing. This convinced me that although I couldn't hear it ringing my phone must be in the car but then my daughter answered my phone that I had left at her house! So my mobile was connected to her WiFi and my S3 was connected to my WiFi, which are 30 miles apart, yet but my S3 was synced with my phone.

That's really neat! I've never experienced that.
Samsung ought to create a small app that will reestablish whatever mechanism there is to make the remote connection thing reliable. It's fantastic when it works, but if you're not on Bluetooth, it's a crap shoot if it'll work or not.
One other observation. In my experience, updating Samsung Pay on the phone seems to break whatever mechanism there is for reliable remote connection. Even after logging in/verifying the Samsung Account, it seems to break it. Weird.
Dan
Yeah, it totally blew me when my daughter answered my phone because I was convinced it must be connected by Bluetooth and so in the car.

Now wait a min lol.. mine does not do that.. only get notification not calls.. i have a vzw note edge.. what kind of phone do you have? I was thinking when i bought the watch that it would take calls over wifi so i could basically leave my phone in my office and roam around the office and still take calls all on wifi.. that does not seem to be the case for me anyway.. guess i need to do some more testing. If it works like you say then this is great news.

also mine says standalone when it has lost the BT from the phone says its connected via wifi..
I didn't say I answered the call on my S3. My S3 buzzed and showed call from home but before I could do anything else my daughter answered the call on my phone. So the S3 was obviously connected via WiFi and internet to my phone (Samsung A5) but what functionality that gives I don't know. Although, thinking about it I did hit reply on the S3 and the home phone rang, which I didn't answer, so who knows.

Gotcha.. still sounds like you could have took the call.. maybe.. Thanks.
Yep, the weird thing is though when I'm at home and out of bluetooth range the S3 goes into WiFi standalone mode although both phone and S3 are on the same WiFi network. Yet, yesterday the S3 was showing connected which was why I was convinced the phone must be near.
So i just tested and i walked across the office and my watch says connected remotely. I called my cell and my S3 did not ring.. it did tell me i had a missed call tho and i got an email while i was over there..
Did you have a reply option to the message because I did? When I tapped reply it said 'connect remotely' to which I said yes.

For the missed call? or the email? Not sure about email but the missed call notification i tap on it and it pops up saying connect to phone via Bluetooth ? i get a x on the left and a check on the right.. if i hit x nothing happens and if i hit the check it will try to find my phones BT.. Just tested an email.. all i have when i scroll all the way down is delete but i can hit the dots on the right and i have a reply option.. i was able to send a quick reply to myself.. this is all while my phone says connected remotely..
I was just checking the connection dialogue and it says "... remotely via mobile data or Wi-Fi."
Dunno how I missed the Wi-Fi part.
The missed call. All my calls and taps happened over a matter of seconds whilst I was more concerned with finding my mobile than what the S3 was actually doing. The fact that it was doing anything in relation to a call to my mobile was pointing me towards the phone being close. So it seems from your testing, and nothing I experienced really contradicts that, that when you're connected by WiFi you do only get notification of a call. I did tap reply to the missed call and the house phone rang but I can't say for sure that the call was from the S3 because I never answered it and didn't check the S3 again because I was leaving to return to my daughters house.
By the way guys, I had to factory reset my S3 and remote connectivity worked again. I now learned to backup my S3 if this happens again. I rely mostly in remote connectivity thats why this is a big deal for me.
Mind you that I confirmed that I'm connected to WIFI on my phone and I can browse on it too. It just doesn't connect the phone.
I just hope there is a way to force remote connectivity in the settings so I know what going on!
I entered feedback into the Samsung support website about this particular problem. I explained that the remote connection between the S3 and my phone is intermittent. I was very dismayed to get a stock, canned answer back about rebooting my router. This is the second time that I've attempted to address this, once through the chat client and once through email. I'm very disappointed with Samsung's support considering the size of their company. Alas, guidance on how to correct this problem does not appear to be forthcoming.
