Autostarts Alternative or Working Version - General Questions and Answers

I used to use Autostarts to stop apps from starting in the background. The current version seems to not work on 5.1.1 or newer. Do others have the same issues? Any alternatives that'll peple have used with success.

Anyone have any suggestions. Any xposed modules that do the same?

Greenify only closes apps it doesn't have the ability to disable the services that start the app up. Am I missing something or does purify only have one choice to purify eveything it deems needs work? Thanks for suggestions

u better use amplify.
Greenify has wakelock cut system too
or use bootmanager to control which will boot on start

Boot manager is great but it doesn't stop most apps from being triggered by other services un android.

Looking for app to keep other apps from being killed

Hi All,
Most people are looking for apps to kill other apps when they are running - I'm actually looking for the opposite. Phone keeps killing apps to free up some RAM here and there, and some of the apps to not restart themselves. Are there any good apps out there that can be used to monitor specific apps and restart them if they are killed by the system?
Thanks!
What ROM are you running? You can try an app called AutoMemoryManager and play around with the values there. See which apps fall into which categories and go from there. I have this same problem with my music sometimes. This seemed to help. It's not exactly what youre looking for, but the app is supposed to prevent apps from being killed as quickly.

Did you tried V6 Supercharger by Zeppelinrox? (Is not an app is a huge script that contain another scripts inside "bulletproof" is what you need).

Thanks, I ended up using App Settings module from the Xposed framework. Working like a charm.
How are you using it? The keep resident setting? On which apps?

Correct, resident is checked. Using on:
- Ultimate Dynamic Navbar Pro
- Smart Statusbar+ Pro
- GMD Gesture Control Pro
- Switchr
- 1-Tap Quick Bar
- Rotate Screen
- C Locker Pro
-OneQuick

Correct. Solves it enough that the apps I wanted to stay active throughout the day are still active at this time - typically many of them have been killed by now (just checked, the only one that has been killed off is C Locker Pro, and I may have inadvertently killed it myself earlier).

Apps reloading themselves upon opening??

Youtube, and seemingly a bunch of other apps lately have been refreshing themselves upon reopening them ...
See the video for an example..
What's causing this? Really annoying..

Anybody else have this problem??

Oh yea..
Stock 4.4.4 (build prop edited to say 4.4.2 for YouTube)
Franco test 64 (problem was also on r63).. Might not be kernel related
Xposed with the these modules enabled:
Gravitybox, greenify, youtube adaway, wake lock terminator, gel settings

well, the very first thing im gonna ask you to do is completely remove all xposed, and everything having to do with it. xposed can come with too many undocumented issues, so its always best to remove anything xposed before trying to resolve issues. it could even be xposed causing it.

ok, reflash your rom, dirty(dont wipe anything), without franco kernel. why reflash the rom? because franco kernel leaves stuff behind. and dirty so thst you dont lose any data.
I'm pretty sure this is standard behavior for YouTube, to refresh the videos. It happens on all my devices. Do you have an example of this happening on an app other than YouTube?

YouTube intentionally does it for sure. Maybe the other app you saw it happen with is the same.
Now with Lollipop this is much worse. Even on light multitasking my apps keeps reloading when swithcing to them... Why google why..
Frustrating.
Edit: the irony: just had the google play music app closed + stock launcher closed (and other apps: massive kill). When i got back to chrome this one was killed too.
Great.

I really don't seem to have this issue on lollipop. I did on kk.
Sometimes if i launch an app from LMT pie, it starts it as a new activity, where as from recents it goes to the last known state. I'm not having anything killed off though

Well, it was so bad that actually all the time I switched to an app (including launcher/homescreen) it just reloaded. And in Settings > Apps > Running many apps were in a Restarting state.
It seems that Lollipop has some memory leaks, I need to reboot the phone after couple of hours.
This is not an isolated issue, see:

display overlay Marshmallow

Hello,
Can anyone help me with this issue with Marshmallow? I try to fix it but no chance.
In Settings >> Apps >> App permission I can't allow or disallow apps for permissions because this error. I have freeze apps like Lux and set display overlay for the apps to "no". But don't work.
Any idea?
I have been getting same issue. Really doing my head in. Hope someone can find a solution!!

But I can enable permissions when the App ask for it. Only overlay issue in the Settings. App Ops, the xposed Plugin don't work in Marshmallow.

I found the solution for me. Is your phone rooted and using Xposed with the Gravitybox App? Disable Gravitybox and this issue is gone.
Is there any idea how to use gravitybox without having that issue ? Maybe any special config parts in it ?

haven't tried narrowing that down. I use Tasker + autoshortcut plugin + greenify to hibernate and dehibernate overlays on demand for permission changing.

How do I disable apps that launch on startup?

Also, is it still advisable to do so? Or would I be better off just leaving my phone as it is?

General you can disable apps in settings - apps - click on app - disable. But it depends on which android version you are. Disabling apps can help a lot to improve battery life! Which one do you want to disable?

Very useful apps working without root

I'll root my device but not for the moment. In the meanwhile, I suggest these useful "no root" apps to perform tasks for which we usually use apps needing root:
- For adblock, Block this: this a VPN based adblocker, works very fine, free
- To hybernate some apps, Hybernator: manual hybernation or automated hybernation when screen off, free (not free for system apps)
- To prevent apps autostart at boot, All-In-One Toolbox, free
- To increase number of volume steps, Precise Volume, free (pro version not free)
Pls give further suggestions if you have some...
Guess your already making themes and apps for the xz2 @nreuge nice bro congrats we will miss you back at the z5 community
I'd suggest (and I'm already using) this one: NetGuard - No-root firewall by M66B. Btw, this great app can also block ads :good:
Big thanks @M66B, you're awesome :highfive:
I prefer Greenify to Hibernate Apps.

Yes, Greenify has a no-root mode. Hybernator or Greenify, I don't which is the more reliable. Hybernator seems to work fine on my device.
BLOCK THIS is awesome, youtube is totaly adfree... before i used blokada (i dont know why i have realy used it so.... great app thanks for sharing
HYBERBNATOR gave me little stutters before unlocking screen and sometimes black screen....but i guess it is about fine tuning it

I'm using YouTube Vanced Non-Root version and it does work fine (background playback as well) - its xda thread!
I have my own debloat script to uninstall system apps (no root required ofc), not yet released. Is it worth releasing it? @Klaus N. can say a few words about it!

Yes bro, I can confirm, with your script you get rid of many unwanted apps - without root! It's a bat file, means you simply connect your phone with your pc and double-click the bat file via shell. The device reboots automatically when finished. The only two things you have to consider:
1. USB Debugging must be on in developer settings
2. If there's an app which has already been updated before running the script, you can simply use settings > apps to remove that apps.
But I guess, there will be a better description when you'll release it
@serajr
A big thanks to you - awesome work as always my friend! :good::highfive:

Picture Manager is an awesome app to consolidate your 3 different 100andro folders because you flashed too many different ROMs and have always new DSC0001.jpg pictures.
Custom Navigation Bar also rocks!
Ruthless (Pixel 2) Launcher is an awesome launcher with plenty of customizations.
I recommend it.

for pictures/photos there is only one - quickpic, been using it for years, it has every conceivable option possible and has no bloat, the main reason I ever explored the need for a 3rd party app was because the standard Sony Album didn't allow you to exclude folders, it really is extremely good
Port of Pixel 3 live wallpapers are now available: [PORT] [APP] [6.0+] [Google Pixel 3/XL] Pixel Wallpapers 18 [26/09/2018]
I particularly like the Pixie Emerald...
After apk installation, grant location permission to the app to avoid FC.

Maybe Greenify. But my battery life and speed is fine.

Btw. Since I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the last September firmware, my touch got better. Even with battery saver mode.

Ha ha, maybe should we start a new thread now
Lspeed is always a must. I've enabled all the performance options which don't affect battery life. XZ2 is still more than powerful, but even more power can't harm ^^
On the contrary, you can enable the battery options (which affect performance). This is the magic of Lspeed, you can do whatever you want
I've installed the following magisk modules:
- Magisk SELinux Manager
- AOSP Volume Steps Increase
- Audio Compatibility Patch (for audio effects remaining active whatever the app)
- Looki75 Product Sans Font (it's the new Google Font)
- App Systemizer - Terminal Emulator
They all work fine
OMG!! Root is so fantastic
