display overlay Marshmallow - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Can anyone help me with this issue with Marshmallow? I try to fix it but no chance.
In Settings >> Apps >> App permission I can't allow or disallow apps for permissions because this error. I have freeze apps like Lux and set display overlay for the apps to "no". But don't work.
Any idea?

I have been getting same issue. Really doing my head in. Hope someone can find a solution!!

But I can enable permissions when the App ask for it. Only overlay issue in the Settings. App Ops, the xposed Plugin don't work in Marshmallow.

I found the solution for me. Is your phone rooted and using Xposed with the Gravitybox App? Disable Gravitybox and this issue is gone.

Is there any idea how to use gravitybox without having that issue ? Maybe any special config parts in it ?

haven't tried narrowing that down. I use Tasker + autoshortcut plugin + greenify to hibernate and dehibernate overlays on demand for permission changing.

[Q] Unable to install downloaded apk, can't press install button

Hi guys
need some advice here.
I've been installing apk file from dropbox for testing purpose for few weeks. Occasionally I couldn't press the install button (on the install screen), but it resolved itself after few attempts.
However, it doesn't seem to work any more. I just can't press the install button, but OK for the Cancel button. I've tried restarting with/without pulling out the battery. It still doesn't work.
Have googled the issue, only able to find this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150096
But I don't have screen filter app installed, so that doesn't explain my issue.
Anyone have the same issue and know how to fix it?
Much appreciated.
Cheers
Tony
PS. Im installing from dropbox.
When you say you are installing from drop box I take it you are using the Drop Box app. If so I would just try to install by opening your favored file explorer app, mine is Astro File explorer. Anyway find it with the file explorer and then try to install it that way. Or you can uninstall the Drop Box app and then reinstall it. Maybe something has gone wrong with the app. Just a quick suggestion.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, Im using dropbox app. I've tried to copy the apk to my sd card and used appinstaller and astro to install it, still doesn't work.
I've also disable a screen brightness app Lux which I suspected have a similar bug to screen filter app, but still doesn't work ><

Might as well get it out of the way...you DO have allow installations from unknown sources checked right?
(Sometimes all you have to do is check to see if there are batteries in it, lol)

this is so weird!!!! It's used to work, but suddenly not!!!
Try installing seconds after a clean boot. I believe my problem was caused by the auto brightness app Lux.

OMG! It works, thanks.
I was suspecting Lux causing the problem, but I only disabled the app, didn't uninstall it. Once I've uninstall Lux, it just works!!
I wanted to let the developer know the problem, but I can't replicate it. Any idea what the causes?

Iff lux puts a full screen overlay up that is what causes the issue. I think it is security thing.
Some of my apps had the same issue.

Thanks for everyone replies. Problem resolved
Yeah it's a bug that you get with apps like Lux and Screen Filter. Somewhere within Lux there is a setting that lets you exclude certain apps and I think within the most recent build of the app it will automatically disable itself when you install an application
For what's it worth:
I've had the same issue when using JuiceDefender.
I've granted Juice Defender acces to controll the brightness of the screen, because the auto brightness control in my HTC One X is too bright.
This caused the same problem!
After disabling Juice Defender's auto brightness, the installation of app's works as usual.
Grtz,
Guys, me too got this problem since last week. Tried hard, unable to figure it out which app is causing the problem. Is there any ways to check the app?
Tried in many threads, but couldn't get it resolved. Fortunately you guys in the thread have some sort of reasons for root cause.
Please help me guys, this is screwing me up.

Is there an app that allows me to make the phone look like a tablet?

Basically what the title says, I was wondering if there is an app (or xposed module) that allows me to trick an app into thinking that the device is a tablet...
If anyone is asking why would I want an app like this, I mainly want this because of spotify... I cannot stand listening to certain songs, but I cannot skip them because I don't want to pay 5 € a month for something I can have for free...
If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it
You could try the Xposed module App Settings to set a custom DPI for Spotify app. If you do it right, then the app should think that it's running on a tablet and hopefully it'll use a tablet UI.

Never mind, the solution to the problem is tabletmetrics...
Just enable it on xposed, reboot and poof! I can listen to whatever I please
Now Spotify do Not allow to reproduce the music I want, it force me to listen playlist randomized. Any idea?

Changing the double tap home button app?

Anyone know how to change apps instead of camera launching? Rooted and ready to go.
On stock settings you can just disable the camera launch. Maybe an xposed module will do the job once xposed works with the S6.

aha ok I see, but still, Google camera is still worse than the Samsung camera app
last night @Goldie released 'Alliance Framework' which along with hundreds of others mods can change the double tap home button app .. just tried it myself!
I'm using the Edge, so not quite sure if it's compatible or not with you (should be) backup first !

Sharing window is loading forever

Hi,
I have noticed that if I click on a share button somewhere (doesn't matter where, everywhere the same problem) I have to wait 10 - 15 seconds until the window pops up to choose an application where I want to share it.
You guys have the same problem?
I have root and xposed but no modules they interact with the share system. Any ideas how to fix that, if it's even possible?
The Problem isn't new for me. I'm not sure if it was working once.
Thank you
I had this issue where any app I tried to share from force closed. I realized it had to do with the stock "Files" app which I had removed or frozen. I enabled the app again (actually replaced with the nougat beta file manager) and "share" worked like normal.
Not a solution to your problem, but could be a clue.
Try playing around with the "files" app.
Clear data, and so on..

Do you have Flat Style Colored Bars? I was having the same issue and after I removed it it went from around 15 seconds to around 5. Still annoying, but manageable. I also downloaded Quickpic instead of the stock gallery which has it's own share feature to get around that problem/

I have xStana. The gallery workaround works, but when I make a photo and want to share it, it's super annoying.
Edit: removing xstana didn't help

Tested deactivating the modules.
I have the problem if: App Settings, Google Assistant enabler or Xstana are active.
Well I guess I have to live with the bug then, the modules are too important for me. Thanks for your help.

You can use the theme engine to make a theme that uses whatever xstana bars you have. For Google Assistant we're getting the update in a month or so. Don't know what to do about App Settings. Tasker maybe?

Yes there is an app called Shortcutter, when you're in the app allow root features, then go to "Toolbox settings", scroll down to "Customisable tiles" and enable immersive mod. Work very well, i still using it since the first time i've found it.

I have this app, Only that you can not exclude some apps so I prefer not to use it
There is no app needed. See the following thread for details and warning about battery drain. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3621622
I enabled immersibe mode on my Nexus 7 for two single apps using USB ADB command without having root. It works and I have no battery drain.
