USB Hub with Power Delivery - Pixel C Accessories

This works great:
http://www.amazon.de/Anker-SuperSpe...pezifikation-Aluminiumlegierung/dp/B018XF4KRC
I attached a USB->Ethernet Adapter to the Hub. The Pixel is charging with ~10W through the HUB. When connected direct to the power supply, it charges with ~16W.

I plan to build a wall mount docking station with these components, so the pixel gets charged, while it is connected to the wired network.

Thanks for the info.
I have purchsed the version from the UK Amazon store and it is being delivered today.
Its not cheap at £40 but Anker are usually decent quality, so am hoping it is worth it.
Edit: Decided to send it back as it charged but hdmi doesn't work, nor audio out via hdmi, so likely paying over the odds for that, when I can't use it.

I am trying to find a powered hub which will a) charge the Pixel C, b) supply enough power to work with a standard USB Mouse/Keyboard c) supply power to a Lexicon Alpha recording Mixer (which expects to be powered externally via USB). The one above looks promising, but only indicates it's charging the Pixel C. What happens if you plug in legacy devices into USB? Do they get any power? Do they even work?
Do you have to reboot the Pixel C for it to recognize them?
Any help would be appreciated.

@hagbardceline23: What kind of a USB->Ethernet device are you using? I've got one from my old Transformer, but it doesn't seem to work. With my Transformer I'd get an extra menu option in the ' Connections' section, don't see this with the Pixel

I've just got the Anker usb c hub as well in the UK seems to work fine. Pass though charge and tried a few USB sticks and worked in es explorer can't find my USB net adapter so haven't tried that yet but it's a plugables on I think and it work on Nexus 9 all stock on both, just shame can't get exfat without routing.

Can you test a USB keyboard and mouse and see if it works? I also keep hoping someone will have a USB device that needs a little bit of USB power to run (such as the Lexicon Alpha mixer), to see if it will get power.

Charging and supplying a Mouse/Keyboard or Ethernetadapter works great.

I use a Lenovo USB->Ethernet Adapter.
[QRCODE][/QRCODE]If you use a DHCP on your network it should work. You wont get a menu for the adapter on the pixel.

Got it working now. Also bought the Anker USB C hub. The ethernet adapter I've had works perfectly, but for looks-sake, I've bought the Anker USB-c => Ethernet adapter. This one works too, but unfortunately, after the screen goes to sleep, it won't connect again when screen is awaken again.... I'll give Anker a nudge....

Just checking: are you guys all happy with the hub? I'm asking because I'm looking for one myself, and my first purchase (the HooToo HT-UC001) doesn't deliver power to the Pixel C (or not enough to actually charge it, can't really tell), If this one does charge the Pixel C and allow connecting devices, then I might just get one myself.
PS: Anyone tried using an SD card adapter with it?
edit: So, I bought the Anker as well and as it turns out, both do charge the Pixel, it just takes some time to kick in. The HooToo is much faster, though, so I kept it and returned the Anker.

Can you please confirm the HooToo HT-UC001 does charger your Pixel C?
(because in your post you mention it doesn't, but in your 'edit' mentioned it's faster... i got a little confused here)

The HooToo charges the Pixel C a bit slower than its charger does directly. The Anker is much slower, but it can also charge it.

Looking for USB Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter

I have had about 5-6 of these.. every one I get my hands on is junk. When using the GPS, with the phone pluged in (non stock cable) I still end up killing my battery dead. The second it comes off the charger is turns off.
Can anyone point me in the direction of one that charges correctly?
Thx in advance!
I use my wife's from Verizon and it seems to work ok. It has a USB port so I can use my normal, thick data cord. You're probably running into ones where the cord is too thin to give proper charge. This one works great with the data cord.
I have the Samsung car dock. It seems to do fine with just GPS. I don't think the Epic can draw enough current to maintain it's charge if you're using any other features. If I'm running GPS + Streaming Music, it will discharge eventually and become very hot.
You need
1. a reasonable quality USB charging cable so that the Epic will draw the maximum current, or a power adapter that grounds the data pins. If the epic thinks it's connected to a computer it won't draw the maximum current.
2. an adapter that will provide 600ma+. I used the one from Griffin until it broke* and I bought the Samsung cradle. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=usb+car+power+adapter&hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=1150301903319147928&sa=X&ei=4h0ZTtSyL4aDgAeA7rH0Dw&ved=0CIUBEPMCMAE
Hope this helps.
*Griffin agreed to fix it, but it's been several weeks since I sent it in. I'm a little unhappy with them at the moment, but the adapter was fine until it broke, maybe you'll have better luck.

seems like a good price. i ordered 3 single usb 1 amp units for 1.99. I'll give feedback once there in my hands.
sounds weird but goto radioshack or wherever & get one for a palm pre it works great charges really fast to, try & get palm brand because thats what im usin
Not as strange as you might think. As the pre/pixi charger is 1amp allowing it to power the touchstone with enough current. Most
12v lighter plug USB adapters are .5amps.
Also the pre/pixi lighter plug charger requires the cable that comes with it. And although it is a micro usb the end that goes in the lighter plug is not standard its thinned and narrower.
+1 on the pre charger... been using one since I had the pre, and it is awesome. phone still discharges when streaming pandora and running GPS, but GPS by itself results in a very slow net charge on my drive to work.
We sell a case logic brand charger at work for 15 bucks that is rated at 800mA, used it a few times and know a few people that have one. I'm sure online price is cheaper.

USB and DATA cable
That's because if you use a USB adapter and a DATA cable the phone only charges at half it's rating. This is because it thinks it's pulling the power from a computer USB port and it doesn't want to overload (and fry) the port.
I picked up one of these, opened it up and soldered the two middle USB pins together. Now it allows my phone to charge with a data cable at it's max rate.

there are pretty sweet power inverters that run 30ams, so you can plug in laptops and such. pretty compact, AND they come with 2 usb charging ports.
there under 50 bux.
I use a j-lo brand car charger. Its for a gps and charges @ 1000mah. I also have a power inverter, the cheap one from walmart with 2 ac outlets and 1 usb port. Both of these work very well.

with something like this:
It's just a USB charger so, in theory, you should just be able to buy one and use the supplied micro USB lead.
That's the theory but I've just tried it and got some unusual results.
The supplied HP charger is 5.3v 2A. I used a cheap Chinese USB charger that I got from eBay that says it produces 5.0v 1A. It charged the battery but if you try and use the tablet while it's on charge you get deadspots on the screen, random multitouch gestures (most noticable in the browser) and slight freezes and stuttering. If I unplug the touchpad and run it on battery it works perfecty and if I use the supplied HP charger it also works flawlessly.
Moral of the story - make sure the charger you use is man enough for the task. HP sell a travel charger kit, you might be easier to just get that.
That's probably because the rating is at 1A. Plus you did say it's a "cheap chinese charger".
Just use any decent USB charger that matches the power requirement of the unit and it should suffice.
Why don't you try getting a converter? All mobile products come with universal chargers that support 110v to 220v

Hi,
my european HP Touchpad-Powersupply hast 5V/2Ah so a normal USB-Power-Supply wouldnt have enough power.
But you could convert, at your own risk, a 5V power supply from a active USB-Hub to power the USB-A Connector
take a look at pinouts . ru / Slots / USB_pinout.shtml
If you are in the UK, Maplin have USB chargers rated at 5V 2.1A that should do the trick.
unfortunately i ordered mine from amazon.com so i guess its the US version and as you can see under my avatar im from greece so no maplin for me :S
Can anyone check what is printed on Touchpad charger (USA version)?
Does it says 100-240v input?
If so, you can use this "converter" without any problems, I use it with my HTC charger (but it is printed 100-240v)....

edit: i just ordered one, hopefully it will end my problem
As I supposed
You can find this converter almost anywhere (if you can't order it from DX, btw shipping is free ), try your local electronic stores.

i already ordered it from DX since it was so cheap but i have some fears since it looks kinda 'cheap'? i dont want it getting fried, you know
I got mine yesterday and it seems the microusb cable has a short in it...as it doesnt work properly and wont charge. I tried using my old BB microusb and it wouldnt work becasue its a type A microusb, and the HP Touchpad uses a type b micro usb. I am having it replaced under warranty but I went ahead and ordered a few more from meritline, and they are easily found all over the web. For right now im using my old evo microusb until the new ones arrive.
Make sure you get a microusb 2.0 type b if you plan to replace the cable.

Don't worry I have like 10 of them from DX, all working perfectly
In fact this is not converter, what it does it simply change a shape of flat to round (for 220v), rest is done by the charger itself, as it support 220v...
5.3?
Most of my other USB chargers are exactly 5.0V and only change the Amperage... usually from 0.5 to 1A but there the more the merrier, right?
This is the first one with >5.0V
Can i charge my other stuff with it? i'm still scared to plug my nexus one to it... always thought usb specs were 5.0-sharp-Volts.
sorry if this seems like thread hijack... it probably is
It'll work just fine. The USB specification is for power output devices to deliver and for consumer devices to accept voltage between 4.75v and 5.25v.

up to a maximum voltage of 5.25V

Longer USB cable?

Has anyone found a good 30pin Samsung USB cable that is longer than the normal 3 foot one? 3 feet (or is it 1 meter?) to me is just too short but somewhere around 5 feet would be great!
So my question is has anyone found a good alternative that is longer? I have poked Amazon for a little bit today only to find very mixed reviews...

Ah that... is a viable thought. Didn't think of that. Will this affect how it charges? I have been reading the reviews for the normal longer 30 pin cables not charger as quickly/failing file transfers.
Any input on this option would be great! This seems much simpler than buying an entire 30 pin cable.

I'm not terribly concerned with length but I would like to get some additional cables. Anyone had any good luck with getting charging cables? I couldn't care less about data transfer (that's what Dropbox/Box/Google Docs is for IMO, plus I store most things on the MicroSD anyway & can pop that out into a reader in a pinch easy enough, I've got several "turn old smaller capacity MicroSD cards into thumbdrives" type things around). I've only had the 7+ for a few days and I'm getting really tired of having to always charge it in the same place. I found the information that some of the negative reviews were possibly because the power sources they were using may not have been delivering the required 2 amps, thus resulting in X on battery but possibly still trickle charging. I have a wall-to-usb plug that indicates it is 2 amp as well as a car outlet one, OEM cord does not like the wall plug, haven't tried the car one yet. Planning several road trips and really want to have backup charging. Don't like the OEM plug, I'm not going overseas and don't need the darn thing to be able to swap prongs (just increases the likelihood of one of my kids messing up the device or losing the prongs I need)

im using the cheapest one and have no problem
I bought a 6.5 foot one off of Amazon
I purchased a 6.5 foot cable by "Juiced Systems" off of Amazon. From what I understand, there was an issue with an older version of this cable not charging the unit quickly enough. I purchased to 2.0 version of this cable which fixes that problem and can verify that my GT 7+ charges at pretty much the same rate that the stock (shorter) cable charged at. I have also used this cable when doing large file data transfers via my PC and Kies (also used it to do the firmware upgrade via Kies) and have not experienced poor data transfer rates when utilizing the cable in this manner. It appears that the 2.0 version of this cable has resolved the complaints that some people had when using the 1.0 version of the cable. My only complaint is that the price ($19.99) is a bit high for a USB cable (even with a proprietary connector on one end). The cable is currently on sale for $14.99 right now and while that still seems just a tad highly priced, it beats paying $19.99 and is worth the cost just to ditch the ridiculously short stock cable that came with the unit.
Note: I would have been happy to supply a link to the page on Amazon where you can purchase or get more info on the cable but cannot because I am new on this site and this is only my 3rd post.

Re: extension
When I first got my tab, I tried using 4 different USB extension cables for charging/mtp connection, but none of them worked... then I got a blue USB 3.0 cable off amazon for $6 (from the seller cmple) and it has been working perfectly. I also purchased an extra Samsung oem charger+cable for $12 brand new and shipped. The reviews weren't consistant on Amazon for the 6ft non OEM proprietary cable, so that is why I went this route.

I agree with lau. I didn't want to get that one either and the 6ft extension cable has been working wonderfully. I just have the cable go behind my desk and lay it under my monitor. That way when I need it for my tab or something else it is right there.
I just ordered this 6 foot cable from Amazon, $7- http://www.amazon.com/KHOMO-Super-Charging-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B005IR2J2M/ref=pd_rhf_ee_shvl3
Looks like it could be a good option.
Hey guys just picked up a 7.0 plus after going through, well a lot of tablets. Hoping this id the ONE. Anyway I noticed how short the usb was and found this thread. I go here for all my cables. 2.1 amp car charger question

Bought a dual charger for the car, has 1 amp and 2.1 for devices like tables. When I plug the Tab Plus in the tablet gives me an X for charging and doesn't charge. Tried different cables. Any ideas??? GT 6210
Not compatible mHa...

So only Samsung OEM car and wall chargers work??? I even trid a lower amp charger in the house figuring it would just take longer to charger, and still get the X if it's not the Samsung wall charger.
2.1a is plenty to charge it, but as you said, only Samsung chargers will do it. It is highly annoying.

Interesting to note:
When the Tab/Tab+ is connected to an HDMI adapter (either dongle or stand version: I have both) the tab will draw power from ANY USB source and show it as charging. A generic 2.1 amp charger will add to the battery even while playing MAME on my HDTV using a BT PS3 controller while WIFI is enabled (a 500mA charger works too but cant keep up....in other words it will deplete your battery...just slower). The same generic charger will NOT charge my Tab+ when NOT connected to the HDTV/HDMI adapter.
It's charging, but it's only pulling 450mA. This is a safety measure to prevent pulling too much current from a computer USB port.
This is nuts. If it charges through an HDMI cable??It charges slowly through a computer??? I'm surprised nobody has come out with a "charge only" cable so it works generically. Obviously some of the pins can be left off or crossed to trick it.
I'd buy 3 and keep them all over the place!
I've seem them for Apple,I devices, even was shipped one by accident for my Ipod.
I'm writing CableJive! Maybe if they hear from enough of us they support out product. '[email protected]'
Eureka! I grabbed an old USB version 1 extension cable (female to Male) and plugged it on the end of my Tab sync power cable. Plugged it into Tab OEM wall charger, worked fine. Then I plugged it into a generic wall charger for phones (1amp) and IT IS CHARGING!
Still won't work on car adapter, tried 1 amp, 2.1amp, and 2.2 amp.
Ordered USB 2 extensions to test.
Have you made sure that the plug will charge something else? Make sure it will charge your phone or something. I know those dual micro-chargers have to be pushed with a lot more force than you would think. I would also check both ports on the dual charger. Usually only one of the ports will output 2.1 amps while the other only outputs 1 amp.
Quick semi-related charger question: are all Samsung Tab chargers the same? Or, at least, are they cross-compatible for charging?
I've got an imported tablet, and it's charging very slowly with a UK adaptor (which was supplied by the import company... had been expecting more, I have to say).
If I tool up and go shopping for a genuine Samsung Galaxy Tab charger, will any of them do, or do I need to be specific? Does anyone know?
i got one of these handy.

Xiaomi's latest 10000mAh power bank offers USB Type-C for $22

And the big Q... will it rapid-charge the Nexus-6P.... anyone?
I´m not sure if this Power Bank can charge the Nexus 6P fast ( 5V @ 3A ). I´ve tested a iVoler 10000mAh USB Type C Power Bank before and this one works great with the Nexus 6P.
The Xiaomi is much much smaller...

seems like it could only charge at 2A for 5V

No. I just received it today, and the usb-c interface is for charging the battery only. The legacy USB interface is said to support fast charging, but it didn't when I connected it to my Nexus 6P; it charged the phone at normal speeds.
I suspect the advertising around "bi directional usb-c" means simply you can plug the cable in both ways, and "fast charging" means you can charge the *battery* quicker.
In fact, if you connect the battery and a Nexus 6P via a usb-c cable, the phone starts charging the battery!

This is true on many (all?) batteries that allow you to both charge or discharge on the Type-C port. You might have to push the power button for the phone to start charging. What happens if you unplug the Type-C cable, push the power button on the battery, and then plug the Type-C cable back in? Does the phone start drawing power from the battery instead of charging the external battery?
IF the phone starts charging itself from the external battery, can you please let us know how much power is being delivered per the Ampere app? I'd be curious to know this. I couldn't find anything on Xiaomi's web site that gave a definitive output current number.

Nope, pressing the button on the battery makes no difference (before or after being plugged in to the phone). The USB-C port is purely for charging the battery, not for using the battery to charge other devices.
I've attached a scan of the booklet that came with the battery. You'll need to read Chinese (I can't) to understand it though. 2 colleagues have told me it explicitly says only the legacy USB port can be used to charge other devices.

That stinks. Thanks a lot for the heads up, I was considering buying one to compare to the Orico battery.
the part that says USB接口(输出) means USB port(output)
the Type C接口(输入) means Type C port(input)

Argh... I wish I read this thread before I purchased this. I can confirm that the USB C does not output a charge. Really disappointed as all the reviews I've read led me to believe the USB C port was both an input and output. I've attached a screenshot of what I'm getting per Ampere. Oh, and I know this is in the Nexus 6P thread, but I'm actually using this with my Nexus 5X.

I cant find the Xaiomi on any website
I fell for the same ****. I got mine today for $60 AUD, the only reason i paid that is there is no power banks in Australia that support USB-C. The USB-C port is only for charging the power bank, you can also charge the power bank using your phone. Xiaomi mi 10000mah doesn't rapid charge.

I'd assume so, Chinese only instructions. I'm on a tab at the moment, can't view the pic.

Hi guys, sorry for the UP but I bought the power bank today and I run into your same issues.
I saw a video (in bangladeshian, LOL) that actually from Type C port you can fast-charge the Nexus 6P, and also if the phone is off, it starts to get fast-charged by the battery via USB-C.
So basically, is there a question to disable "Nexus power output"? This way the USB quick charging should work fine.

Damn , maybe because it's usb a to C , so the Ampere really low
This powerbank looks quite nice but it doesn't support USB Type-C Fast Charging. It only supports 2.0A output so it won't charge the Nexus 6P or 5X at full speed . Looks like I'm gonna be looking elsewhere.
The usb-c port is for charging the power bank only. It does not rapid charge.

According to people in this reddit post it quickly charges the Nexus 6P if you use a different cable than the one it ships with. Only from the USB-A port though.

I bought one as well.
It does NOT charge via the USB C port, it is only an input port.
So no quick charging with it unfortunately.
