Looking for USB Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter - Epic 4G Accessories

I have had about 5-6 of these.. every one I get my hands on is junk. When using the GPS, with the phone pluged in (non stock cable) I still end up killing my battery dead. The second it comes off the charger is turns off.
Can anyone point me in the direction of one that charges correctly?
Thx in advance!

I use my wife's from Verizon and it seems to work ok. It has a USB port so I can use my normal, thick data cord. You're probably running into ones where the cord is too thin to give proper charge. This one works great with the data cord.

I have the Samsung car dock. It seems to do fine with just GPS. I don't think the Epic can draw enough current to maintain it's charge if you're using any other features. If I'm running GPS + Streaming Music, it will discharge eventually and become very hot.
You need
1. a reasonable quality USB charging cable so that the Epic will draw the maximum current, or a power adapter that grounds the data pins. If the epic thinks it's connected to a computer it won't draw the maximum current.
2. an adapter that will provide 600ma+. I used the one from Griffin until it broke* and I bought the Samsung cradle. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=usb+car+power+adapter&hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=1150301903319147928&sa=X&ei=4h0ZTtSyL4aDgAeA7rH0Dw&ved=0CIUBEPMCMAE
Hope this helps.
*Griffin agreed to fix it, but it's been several weeks since I sent it in. I'm a little unhappy with them at the moment, but the adapter was fine until it broke, maybe you'll have better luck.

seems like a good price. i ordered 3 single usb 1 amp units for 1.99. I'll give feedback once there in my hands.

sounds weird but goto radioshack or wherever & get one for a palm pre it works great charges really fast to, try & get palm brand because thats what im usin

Not as strange as you might think. As the pre/pixi charger is 1amp allowing it to power the touchstone with enough current. Most
12v lighter plug USB adapters are .5amps.
Also the pre/pixi lighter plug charger requires the cable that comes with it. And although it is a micro usb the end that goes in the lighter plug is not standard its thinned and narrower.

+1 on the pre charger... been using one since I had the pre, and it is awesome. phone still discharges when streaming pandora and running GPS, but GPS by itself results in a very slow net charge on my drive to work.
We sell a case logic brand charger at work for 15 bucks that is rated at 800mA, used it a few times and know a few people that have one. I'm sure online price is cheaper.

ive never had that problem mine always charges no matter what

I get mine off of EBay. Just make sure its output is 1amp.

USB and DATA cable
That's because if you use a USB adapter and a DATA cable the phone only charges at half it's rating. This is because it thinks it's pulling the power from a computer USB port and it doesn't want to overload (and fry) the port.
I picked up one of these, opened it up and soldered the two middle USB pins together. Now it allows my phone to charge with a data cable at it's max rate.

there are pretty sweet power inverters that run 30ams, so you can plug in laptops and such. pretty compact, AND they come with 2 usb charging ports.
there under 50 bux.

I use a j-lo brand car charger. Its for a gps and charges @ 1000mah. I also have a power inverter, the cheap one from walmart with 2 ac outlets and 1 usb port. Both of these work very well.

Retailers selling Nexus One accessories?

I find myself in need of a car charger tonight (forgot my desk charger at home, a day of pandora has taken a toll on my battery) and was wondering if anyone has spotted any major retailers that would have a car charger that would work w/ the Nexus One?
Thanks!
Go ahead and close this mods. I wasn't aware that the port on the Nexus One was the same as the Cliq.

You can get any 5v micro usb car charger from just about anywhere...
However, I might suggest this Micro USB Car adapter:
http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=489424
Use that + any usb cable and you'll never have to buy a car charger again!

I picked up one of these at Best Buy the other day and it works great for my N1, my girlfriend's MT3G, and my iPod. Basically, since most devices come with a USB cord that can be used to charge the device, it's a VERY good investment
I am using my old chargers and cables from my Motorola Q9h and it's working perfectly.

+1 for monoprice they are seriously awesome! highly highly recommended! If you buy cables from anywhere but here you are a sucker
Something to think about: make sure, or TRY to get a charger that does 5v 1a...otherwise it's stuck slow-charging, basically just keeping it alive. Most el-cheapo chargers are 5v .5a.
I'm using a belkin micro car charger with the usb cable that came with my phone. Rated at 5v 1a, and it works very well.
I had a crappy old one that I was using and if my phone was dying, it would basically just keep my phone on, I would have to leave it plugged in for a long time to get it charged up. The new 1a unit will actually give me a decent charge, and I don't have to wait an hour.
I usually shop with these guys and rate of which items have gone wrong was so far 0%, so lucky for me.
You may find the car charger you want from them, hope it helps.

Replacement AC charger cable

I recently forgot my AC charger and cable at a Hotel. I found a HTC charger for $8 at Amazon but it didn't come with the HTC power cable. Without that power cable it will only charge at a trickle instead at the full AC rate. Does anyone know of where I can find a replacement charger cable? The ones on Amazon are regular USB cables and not the HTC cable.
You could try verizon. They usually stock the replacement stuff.
the plug on the eris has a standard usb micro type b port, with one corner extended to make it look like a different plug, but it's still a usb micro b port.
you can buy essentially any charger for that, or just a usb cable to plug into your computer or any ac-usb converter.
I personally use just a usb to micro usb cable. I personally got one that is longer than the stock one so that I can use my phone while it's charging if I'm in bed or something.
I personally get all my cables from this site:
http://www.pchcables.com/usbtytomibpd.html
They are super awesome people and local to my area, i have yet to find better deals in town.
Shop around in your area for a "cables" store, you may have one in your area too. or if not these guys do shipping, but im not sure how much it is, but if you need any other cables it may be worth it.
I have never noticed a difference from the 15' i got, to the stock 3' cable that came with the phone.
i do know that AC Charges the phone faster, then the DC Car charger being 2nd, then plugged into a PC being the slowest. i think its due to the voltages that the adapters output to the phone, with AC adapter being the highest.
For the ac adapter or cigarette lighter adapters, i got mine on ebay for super cheap, like $3 with shipping i think it was for both. I dont notice a performance difference, just the build quality is cheap, but how often have you broken your ac adapter? lol your more likely to lose it
Just my 2 cents, hope it helps
I bought this back in Nov. Cheap and it works great. I bought this for a buddy as well and it working out great for him too.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VZSPXG/ref=oss_product
any blackberry or old motorola charger will work. I switched from blackberry over to the eris and all of my chargers work with this phone.

What's a good 3rd Party Car Charger?

I am looking for a good dual or multi usb car charger. The one I currently have isn't putting out enough power I think to charge and run the GPS. It also causes issues after charging that the phone does not recognize it's been unplugged and does not sleep. This is my current one (currently not available anymore): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0021WWYE0/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00
EDIT: maybe this one? http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-Heav..._1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1336573757&sr=1-2
I was running into the same issues. What I ended up purchasing was a RocketFish Mobile car charger. Has a micro usb (9 foot cord) plus a usb slot to charge whatever else you have. It charges my Skyrocket while using GPS and listening to music.

Thirding. I got this for my girlfriend and her Skyrocket and she absolutely loves it.
Not a two usb output, but it's very reliable and compact as well as versatile. I've had it since the iPhone 3G came out and now use it for my Skyrocket by just plugging in the micro usb cord that came with the phone. Charges anything with the right usb cord, usually an extra 2 or 3 dollars, except tablets. Rated at 5v 1amp.

Griffin Dual USB Car Charger PowerJolt for iPhone/iPod
I bought this one in august 2011 and have been using it since then with no issues whatsoever. I like it because the blue logo on the faceplate tells when it's plugged in. Early on it would slip out due to vibrations of the car and "turn off" but hasn't in the last six months since it's "rusted in". Charges everything I've plugged into it and does both the ipod and the cell phone at the same time with no issues.

I've ordered some AmazonBasics stuff before, but with chargers you seem to get what you pay for. Both AB's I ordered were total crap. I'm using a iGo Green charger. Works great

2.1 amp car charger question

Bought a dual charger for the car, has 1 amp and 2.1 for devices like tables. When I plug the Tab Plus in the tablet gives me an X for charging and doesn't charge. Tried different cables. Any ideas??? GT 6210
Not compatible mHa...
Sent from my GT-P6210 using Tapatalk
So only Samsung OEM car and wall chargers work??? I even trid a lower amp charger in the house figuring it would just take longer to charger, and still get the X if it's not the Samsung wall charger.
2.1a is plenty to charge it, but as you said, only Samsung chargers will do it. It is highly annoying.

Interesting to note:
When the Tab/Tab+ is connected to an HDMI adapter (either dongle or stand version: I have both) the tab will draw power from ANY USB source and show it as charging. A generic 2.1 amp charger will add to the battery even while playing MAME on my HDTV using a BT PS3 controller while WIFI is enabled (a 500mA charger works too but cant keep up....in other words it will deplete your battery...just slower). The same generic charger will NOT charge my Tab+ when NOT connected to the HDTV/HDMI adapter.
It's charging, but it's only pulling 450mA. This is a safety measure to prevent pulling too much current from a computer USB port.
This is nuts. If it charges through an HDMI cable??It charges slowly through a computer??? I'm surprised nobody has come out with a "charge only" cable so it works generically. Obviously some of the pins can be left off or crossed to trick it.
I'd buy 3 and keep them all over the place!
I've seem them for Apple,I devices, even was shipped one by accident for my Ipod.
I'm writing CableJive! Maybe if they hear from enough of us they support out product. '[email protected]'
Eureka! I grabbed an old USB version 1 extension cable (female to Male) and plugged it on the end of my Tab sync power cable. Plugged it into Tab OEM wall charger, worked fine. Then I plugged it into a generic wall charger for phones (1amp) and IT IS CHARGING!
Still won't work on car adapter, tried 1 amp, 2.1amp, and 2.2 amp.
Ordered USB 2 extensions to test.
Have you made sure that the plug will charge something else? Make sure it will charge your phone or something. I know those dual micro-chargers have to be pushed with a lot more force than you would think. I would also check both ports on the dual charger. Usually only one of the ports will output 2.1 amps while the other only outputs 1 amp.
Quick semi-related charger question: are all Samsung Tab chargers the same? Or, at least, are they cross-compatible for charging?
I've got an imported tablet, and it's charging very slowly with a UK adaptor (which was supplied by the import company... had been expecting more, I have to say).
If I tool up and go shopping for a genuine Samsung Galaxy Tab charger, will any of them do, or do I need to be specific? Does anyone know?
i got one of these handy.

Slim Micro USB cable and High Speed charging for Galaxy S4

I'm looking to buy a few micro usb cables to have that will work with my Galaxy S4 and my Spigen Neo Hybrid case. Because of this I need to get one of the Slim OEM Samsung chargers.
I've gotten the warning on my phone a couple times that the phone is being charged slow, and for a faster charge, I should use the USB cable that came with the phone. Does the charging speed depend on the actual USB cable or the AC adapter it plugs into (or both)? The reason I ask is that I'm using some older adapters I had laying around the house (I actually don't have the adapter that came with the phone).
I'm looking at getting this cable off eBay for cheap, since it looks like it has the slim connector
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Samsung..._PDA_Cables_Adapters&var=&hash=item19e1e43753
I know this is just a generic one, I just didn't know if there is something specific I need to look for in a cable, or if I can just get a high speed AC adapter for it and it would hypothetically work just the same.
I am aware that the S4 supports charging at the higher amperage rate (I have also purchased an Anker car charger for that).
If anyone can help me understand this better I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
~J

It boils down to the adapter the stock charger is a 2.0amp "fast charging". I have had several stock cables fail only a few months of use each. Cheaper cables for charging only and for data transfer it's a different cable a little more in price but not much.
Most chargers car and home are 1amp / slower charging and sometimes don't charge when using the phone with screen brightness up / gps etc. Just check for 2.0 Amp output chargers. Cheap USB cables varry by brand some break fast some last. I'm still using my old gs2 USB cable. Good luck happy hunting.
There's some wire pair that needs to be crossed in the cable for the cable to run at a higher charging rate.
The longer the cable, the crappier it will charge. I have several different brands of 10' cables ebay, monoprice, etc and they barely charge at 300-500mA.
I'd go for a 3' for 4.5' cable. Even the 6' doesn't do so well for me.
Monoprice sells pretty quality cables. Avoid ebay.

For fast charging, you'll need both a 2A charger as well as a high-quality charging cable. If you want to know more, the thread Findings on Galaxy S4 charging current makes for some interesting reading.
Figured I'd just ask this question here in this thread instead of making my own. I see the post above saying that the longer the cable is the crappier the charge will be. That's definitely the case because I bought a 10 foot charger from a gas station knowing it'd probably be chappy but thinking it would at least charge the phone. No go, with moderate use the phone would actually lose charge while connected to the 10 foot chrager.
My question is this...are there any quality 10 foot chargers out there? Also would using a higher amp adapter help with the longer cables or is that going to be a safety issue?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGYkt4CeYuk
I use power tools a lot for work and keeping power to them is important. A thin power cord will result in tools losing power or burning up the tool by low amperage. I use 10 to 12 hauge when going anything over 25 ft and if you don't know that's a thick cord. the cord on a standard computer is 16-18 gauge wire as a comparison Better cords will result in better results. Cut the case, i had to as well as my headphone jack to accept my plug for my radio. was easier and it doesnt affect the case at all.
Amazon has BlackBerry 1.8A chargers with a 6ft cord. Like $4 each. They work excellent.
