Home Button on S7 vs S7 Edge? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Tried in the Edge forum but didn't get an answer.
Anyone have both an Edge and regular S7? Or compared the Home buttons?
I have an Edge and my mrs an S7. The home buttons feel different. My edge has a button that is more raised (sits higher against the surrounding than the S7) and as a result has a slight bit of movement or play.
Her S7 button is solid. I'm trying to find out if this is a difference between the models or if I have a dodgy home button. It functions fine, but I prefer the button on the S7.

I believe it is a design difference, same situation here wife has S7 I have S7 Edge. I seem to recall her home button does not sit as high as mine. She isn't here right now or I would confirm, but if memory serves....

I have both the S7 and Edge, the Edge had a home button that sat higher but it seems to have settled and is not 100% the same as the normal S7.
I swear when I first got them I saw the same thing that you mentioned but it is gone now.

My s7 home button had some play in it on the left side but it has mostly gone away

[Q] Should I replace my galaxy s6?

Hello! I've had my galaxy s6 for 2 months now, and I'm faily happy with it (mainly due to the great camera). However, my galaxy s6 have a few quality issues. First and foremost my home button is loose, which makes the impression of quality far less than if it had been stiff and firm as some other galaxy s6's I've tried. However I've seen quite a few people suffer with this, so is it any great chances of getting one without it?
Secondly, my IR blaster has a bad cutout in the aluminium.
Thirdly, my screen somethimes gets to an extreme brightness which makes the black levels go zero to none.
So is it worth go to the store and get an replacement or get them to try and fix it?
I'd get it changed if the button is loose never mind the other stuff
Yes, I'll probably have a talk with them. Anybody else who have thoughts about this? Is your home button firm?

Mines sturdy, you've not got a clone have you because one of the things which give those away is the loose button

Is S7 Edge A Possible Replacement For Note Edge?

Trying to follow the latest on Samsungs recent announcements...
Sounds like there are "big" edges on a 5.5 inch screen?
Does this mean they will be proper edges like in the Note Edge?
What would you make of the fall in size from 5.6 to 5.5?
Could there still be a Note 7 Edge announced later?

For me, I've grown addicted to the wider screen on the Note edge so I probably would not go for Samsung's latest (although I could change my mind!). I'm sure camera and performance are great. Some other phones that look interesting are the Le Eco Le Max Pro (formely LETV) and the upcoming vivo. I don't know whether they will work well on US networks. Regardless, this may be a good year for various offerings...

I've had the Note Edge since day one and love the phone. However battery life hasn't been all that great for me the last couple of months and its also been giving problems. Not to mention that it wont be long before Samsung stops with the updates or takes forever to push out to Note Edge devices. And even tho it has the s pen I never saw myself using it much. Not concerned about the difference in screen size as I use mostly in landscape mode anyway. After seeing the Samsung event Sunday I've given it some thought and put my pre-order in today. I'll take the bigger battery, wireless charging, better processor, more memory and always on display over the wider screen. I know I could always wait for the next Note upgrade but I'm too dam impatient! . Oh, and I like the fact that Samsung is giving out the Gear VR and a 6-game bundle supposedly worth 150 dollars.

I like the wider screen also.
New phones are always going to be progress with a few hits and misses.
However the functionality of the note edges edge is so important to me that it's almost a non negotiable for my next phone.
That's why I am keen that new Samsungs have "real functional" edges.

No one has been able to clarify if the s7 edge has a "proper" edge

I can see your point with the wanting the wider screen but correct me if Im wrong you still have the same functionality of the edge screen that you have with the note edge. Perhaps the note edge panel may be a bit wider. Both the S6 edge and the S7 edge still have the edge display which will show clock, notifications and with the s7 you have a new edge panel that swipes open and makes it useful to access applications using one hand. I mainly got the Note Edge so I can see notifications and sport tickers without having to open my phone but now I dont use it as much since I got a Gear S2. Plus I want to be able to use Samsung Pay and Note Edge will never get it.

I don't know about the s7 Edge but the s6
Edge certainly has inferior functionality to the note Edge......
I am hoping that s7 Edge is more like the Note Edge (from an edge perspective)... I can live with any other changes but can't live without a proper Edge.
......see below for an extract from a review talking about edge differences between Note and S6.....
The Note Edge SDK can not be used with the S6 Edge, and as such all of the existing content panels are useless. To make matters worse, you can’t do anything beyond the 4-core functions present in the S6 Edge and thus there is no potential to tweak or tinker. Edge Lighting, People Edge, Information Stream, and Night Clock: all of these could technically be done on a normal “flat” phone, just with slightly less comfort.
Why did Samsung strip away the real functionality of the Edge Display?
Edge Lighting has the side of the screen light up when you get a phone call or receive a notification. People Edge allows you to color-coordinate the lights with up to 5 contacts. Information Stream is similar to the ticker feature mentioned earlier on the Note Edge, and Night Clock is also related to lights. That’s it. Nothing impressive whatsoever, if you ask me, at least nothing that justifies making use of such a new piece of display technology.
Why did Samsung strip away the real functionality of the Edge Display? Simple: the S6 variant is much thinner than its Note sibling and, therefore, the curves are much less subtle. This in turn means that there is simply no place to put icons and the like. Unlike the Note Edge, the S6 Edge’s display is one single screen as opposed to “two”.
No way to samsung s7 edge, note edge is still promising and without s pen I will not buy any s series phones.

Bet we can hope for but I doubt it. I was hoping the S6 Edge plus would be Note Edge 2 but for whatever Reason Samsung has decided against it
Maybe there will be a 5.9 inch 7 Edge plus. ....
Keep dreaming! lol

Samsung missing a trick here. ..
I keep going back and forth betweeen pickin up a used NOTE EDGE or the new S7edge, been to BB like 3 times to play with it and seen every youtube video reviewing it. Its a awesome phone but im still not happy about not having a replaceable battery and the edge screen really isnt independent like the Notes. I watch a lot of tv via SLINGBOX and really want to be able to see my notifications on the edge screen without interrupting the main screen. maybe its just cause the phone is in demo mode and its really glitchy but it seems like the edge panels come out over the entire screen blocking whats on the main screen. i try and imitate the app by using youtube but i cant really get it to work. the app panels are really cool but wish it was independent still. What do you guys think?

if you watch any of the videos when they show that u can pull the panel off the side of the main screen, it shows the panels but also clouds out the entire main screen, so its not just showing the panels over the screen.

U can plainly see that the edge screen is taking over the main screen and u can not see whats on it anymore

I agree, i mean thats what my dilema is with this phone, yes u can scroll thru the notifications on the edge when the screen is off but when screen is on, its part of the screen again and those panels overrun the main screen, i guess im going to wait it out a few more months either for price to maybe drop or for the next Note series. Hoping the bring the edge back with them, as well as the waterproofing, but i heard from the Samsung rep at Best Buy that the battery will not be removable, thats for sure. errrr

I regularly need my spare battery with note edge.... so I wouldn't buy a phone without.
I'm glad edge is a beast so could withstand a longer cycle whilst the Samsung execs sort themselves out!!!
There is absolutely no need to have an edge that's wider than one icon either..... if u need lots of info use the good damn main screen! !!!

I have two S6's and had one S6 Edge. The first one and the Edge was bought in 2015, the second one in 2016 (don't ask me why I have two S6's and had one Edge).
All three of them has/had lose buttons and they do not always work when you press the button from the corners, which I think is pretty normal.

Your opinion on the S8+

I'm having a little problem deciding between the S8 and the S8+, though I'm leaning towards the S8+ because it doesn't feel small unlike the S8. Tell me if you disagree with my opinion. My hand is 18.5 cm from the tip of my middle finger to the wrist and 10.5cm wide(just for reference)
My issue with the S8+ is that it fits my hand well but I think the screen is way too big. But of course, it is the new era of smartphones and the screens are not gonna be that small anymore right? Maybe I just have to get used to having an extremely large display. I'm coming from a Nexus 5 lol.
Sorry if the things above are irrelevant but here are my questions:
1. Is the S8+ screen too big for you?
2. Do you think the S8 is small?
3. Can the S8+ fit in your pocket? (I'm a guy BTW)
4. Why the S8+ instead of the S8?
5. Do you accidentally hit the Bixby button?
Thanks!
1. No
2 yes
3.i have no problem putting in any of my pockets
4. S8 is to small for me
5. No I've never hit the Bixby button when I didn't mean to
My previous phone was a Note 4, which I loved for many reasons (custom ROMs, root, removable battery). The improvements and technology advancements have made some of those reasons irrelevant.
1) S8+ screen size is great for me
2) S8 I don't think is small, but I did prefer the S8+
3) Yes, but maybe not as comfortable as other phones
4) I just prefer the larger display
5) I have the Bixby app disabled, but prior to doing that, I don't recall hitting the button by mistake
I love it. I hate the dedicated Bixby button though. I do miss stock google but I'll live because Samsung does have some features that I like that stock google doesn't have.
1. Not at all, at first i thought it was, but when my previous P9 Plus was nothing more bigger. I decided to go for S8+
2. Not really. But i see no need to buy it other than saving $100.
3. Without any problem.
4. Mainly the 500 extra mAh.. Its just the screen and battery that is the difference.
5. Yes, it annoys me. Disabled it thankfully.
1. Not personally, I really love it. (Coming from a Note 5) but I also have the Nova Launcher so I have gestures enabled that make accessibility a ton easier on a bigger screen.
2. I don't *think* it's too small but coming from the Note 5 I really didn't want to go smaller
3. It fits in my pocket just fine. I have a Caseology Legion Series case on it and I can't find any noticeable difference.
4. Bigger screen/battery. Along with my other comments ^ I figured it would've been blasphemy to get a smaller screen version of the best looking display on the market
5. The first few days I mistaked it for the volume button, but that's just turned into a reflex (like the fingerprint sensor). My biggest issue was hitting the Bixby button while the phone was in my pocket. That would turn the screen on and it would start activating apps while it was in my pocket so I've since used PDP (Package Disabler Pro) to turn off Bixby so now nothing at all happens when I push the Bixby Button.
^^^^^What they said!
I've been a "big" note fan, having all up to 5. I traded in my note for an Xiaomi Mi Mix, a 6.4 inch monstrosity and I mostly loved it....except, the camera. It is just next to useless - still not as bad as some I used (Mi Max).
Here's my observations per your questions:
1. Is the S8+ screen too big for you? Well no. The aspect ratio makes it small, compared to what I have become accustomed too.
2. Do you think the S8 is small? YES!!
3. Can the S8+ fit in your pocket? (I'm a guy BTW) I was shoving my Mi Mix in my coat pocket (North Face Apex). S8+ fits in there great. Pants pockets no prob with S8+, but a no go with Mi Mix.
4. Why the S8+ instead of the S8? Size, tht's all (folks) .
5. Do you accidentally hit the Bixby button? Don't even know it's there. Never hit it my accident once. Don't care about remapping, it's just a 6th toe to me.
I really expected a larger phone with the S8+, but, to me, this is really a great phone with a great camera to photo/video the grannies and my overy energetic puppy.
If you want the bigger screen of the S8+, for my money it would be a great choice.
I just turned my S8 in and got the S8+. I'm coming from a Note 5. The S8 just felt too small in my hands. I'm use to the larger screen. I'm living the S8+ do too the fact it's slimmer than the Note 5 but tall as the Note 5 also.

One issue is the length of this phone makes it not fit very well in some jacket pockets. Be careful it can fall out of them a little easier.
Dude you will be doing your self the favor if you get the s8+... including more importantly way better battery life and the phone feels good for it to be the plus(bigger) variant...i thought it would be awkwardly narrow but it's no problem at all....
1. Is the S8+ screen too big for you? I have the S8+. Perfect size.
2. Do you think the S8 is small? Yes, It is
3. Can the S8+ fit in your pocket? (I'm a guy BTW) Yes, with no problems.
4. Why the S8+ instead of the S8? Because the screen of S8 is small for me. I like big screens.
5. Do you accidentally hit the Bixby button? Sometimes yes.
Hi, I switched from Note2 to S8+. Below my answers according to my experience.
1. Screen in S8+ is definetly not too big
2. Yes, S8 is too small
3. S8+ fitsto front pocket Easy, but it is impossible to squat. For back pocket S8+ is to big.
4. S8+ is just Simple pleasure for videos or Internet
5. Yes, two times accidentally i clicked bixby button. But since i know ,where it is it never happened again.
I just realized the s8's dont have qc 3.0
I read in a few forums a few weeks ago people were saying it was 3.0 (I remember reading someone even called up samsung)
I was going to start a new thread but then saw this one so.
In my opinion... I feel ripped off.
1. nope
2. nope
3. Yes. easily
4. why not?
5. theres been times i get bored and hit the bixby button and it doesnt open the first time... (happens mostly in games and apps)

Question S22U S-pen Sensitivity

Just picked up an S22U, coming from a Note 10+. I've noticed I have to press significantly harder for the S-pen to register on the S22U than on the Note 10+ and Tab S7+. Drawing, scrolling, button presses, pretty much everywhere. S-Pen presses virtually never register when the pen is at an angle.
No case, no screen protector. I've disabled accidental touch protection and turned on the increased touch sensitivity. The hover function appears to work, I just have to press rather hard to press buttons/scroll/write in comparison to these older devices.
I've tried all 3 S-pens and can confirm they are not the issue. Also did the built-in S-pen reset. Verizon has disabled the #0# diagnostics tool, so I can't check anything there unfortunately. Factory reset is the only thing left that I can think of before requesting an exchange.
There doesn't seem to be much discussion here, but in one thread, a user mentioned that he can lightly drag his S-pen across the screen applying as little pressure as possible and the phone will recognize the input and scroll, draw, etc. On my S22U, that's definitely not the case. Much closer on the other two devices.
Anyone else who has used older devices as well as the S22U able to comment on sensitivity/pressure/input recognition? Cheers

I've had every Note since the Note 8, and my S22U SPen is just as sensitive as any prior Note devices. May be a hardware issue.

I'm not experiencing any of the issues you described. It's possible that you have a defective digitizer. Did you get it new or used?
Boot into recovery mode and run the diagnostics. You can also run diagnostics via the Samsung Members app.

Thank you, I'll give this a try. It's a new device. It works okay, I may not have noticed if it were my first note. But compared to the other two devices, it takes substantial pressure to register anything.

No problem. I've owned Note phones and tablets previously. The Note 2, 8, and 10+; as well as the Tab S7 and Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. The S22 Ultra's S Pen performance is the best of the bunch.
Posting an update in case it can be useful to someone in the future, as I only saw one other post anywhere discussing this subject. Running diagnostics showed that my S-pen and touch were normal. On top of the S-pen issue, several days into using the phone, all video recording became laggy. Playback of said videos had noticable stuttering. Tried several camera apps as well as resolutions, no difference.
I received a replacement from Verizon and all is well now. The S-pen sensitivity is no longer an issue and video recording is normal. I feel this replacement is a bit faster/snappier as well, something I didn't realize was an issue before as even the replaced device was faster than my old Note 10+.
As a side note, I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon for a trade-in deal. I am very disappointed in my billing ($20 more monthly than quoted) and the 5G speeds at my home and workplace (both in the middle of a city with great coverage) are much slower than the 4G T-Mobile Note 10+. The YouTube throttling is a real thing, though research tells me that running a VPN will address this. I test at 40mbps but can't stream 1080p, even at 2am on a weekday when there should be no congestion. I'm nowhere near my data limit. If anyone else is considering switching from T-Mobile to Verizon, I would urge you to ask friends/colleagues in your city for their experience.
