Just received my mate 8 L29 64GB model last evening. Its a super good looking phone but have few questions.
- When I turned it on, it immediately went to home screen without going through any setup. . Is that normal?
- My model is NXT-L29 which I assumed was international but had the chinese language when I first powered on the phone. Is my phone a chinese version?
- My current firmware version is NXT-L29C636B103 and every time I check for update it says no update available. Do I just need to wait for Huawei to push the update? I am not sure how many updates are there after B103
- How do I check screen on time? There is no option to check screen on time in battery manager.
No L10 is Chinese version. B170 is what mine is on. It down loaded the update right after I turned it on the first time. I think you need wifi on for that. It shouldn't go straight to home screen. I would do a factory reset. Not sure about screen on time.

Thanks. I am on wifi and even tried checking the updates manually but no luck. I think I will just wait.
Since it went directly to home screen the first time it makes me think the device was switched on before

Do a Factory Reset. I once ordered A Mediapad X2 and the bootloader came unlocked already which made me believe it was used before. The phone was fine though. Always factory reset any time you buy a new phone.
Another issue I have noticed is if I change the wallpaper it only displays on half the screen. How do I fix that?

There is an app in the market called "Wallpaper Wizardrii" (spelled with "ii" on purpose). The interface is clunky and not intuitive, but you will be able to get a wallpaper that fits any way you wish. I'm sure there are other apps that might do the same but have a better UI/UX (If so, please share).
Hope that helps.

For SOT, locate: Consumption level under Battery Manager, choose hardware and screen is the first option on top.

Sorry, I can't help much. Depending on what variant of L29 you purchased will depend on what update you receive. What does it say on the back of the phone?

there is a thread in q&a section about updating from b103. A download link for the update file you could find there, too. How to manually update is described in Q&A section.

So I basically made an update to 3.0 beta software made by Huawei for H60-L04, but the update bricked my phone (I think it has to do with the fact I had flashed 3.0 L01 firmware on my L04 some days before).
My phone now won't turn on, even if I plug it or hold Power for more than 20 seconds.
Does anybody know of a way of making it work again? I won the phone through a partnership between Honor and another site I go to, and thus I don't have the invoice, so any RMA return is impossible for me.
Thank you.
matzehtc has nearly the same problem. He flashed the L04 on his L02 and tried to flash it back to L02. More info about his problem is in the main HH6 thread
I have a L12 with L04 Firmware and I want back to L12 too. But atm I am to scared to flash it back to L12
So I am interested too, if there is a way reverting back to L12.
I flashed the offical 60-70 MB revert update from Huawei (EMUI 3.0 to EMUI 2.3). After this I could flash the L04 Update. No root no unlock was needed.

If you charge the phone, is the charging led flashing?
If not, maybe its in some strange loop and its needed to disconnect the battery or wait till it is empty. Disconnecting is a litte bit hard in this phone.

I'll wait till it's empty, but it's already been 2 days and it's still not.

You don't have adb access into the phone either? I had bricked my phone earlier, but I managed to recover it by accessing the device through a software called QtADB and reverting back to the original system files.

No, I don't have access to that.
But today, Huawei agreed to exchance it for a brand new unit, so I guess it's okay. I just have to send them the bricked phone and I'll get a new one.
Also, thanks to everyone for their answers. I don't think I'll be flashing another Chinese firmware anytime soon now.

I wrote them on their Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/HonorFR ), and they told me to write them an email at their support email ( [email protected] ).
Don't know if you can contact them like that outside of Europe, but you can go there: http://hihonor.com/support and send them an email through here too.
Thx, but it seems the german Huawei Facebook team do not care about giving support. Like the mail support... no reaction.
The German support generally ignores every request seemingly. If then I'd ask the British support (or the French if you can)
Yeah, after nearly 2 weeks they answered my email. They told me that they only give Support for phones which are available on their german page and do not support customer with imported phones.

Got my new unit this morning, and in the meantime I had received my TouchPlus screen protector... I can say it's a really nice combo.
And the French Honor team is really nice, too. They are really fast responding and really seem to care about customers, which to me is a nice thing. I also had a software bug with the Bitcasa app and they said they would contact their dev team to fix it asap, so I'm pretty satisfied with customer support.
Well anyway, thanks everyone here who tried to help me too!
Like many people here, I was eager to get onto Android 7 but the issue I faced was the fact that I got a branded phone and a long wait till I officially get the Android 7 update. Looking through this forum I was very put off on manually updating it to Android 7 with so many threads about bricked phones. However, the urge to get onto Android 7 was too great so ultimately, I decided to do my research and just do it. I am not new to flashing and custom roms but I am new to Huawei but I had confidence that I will recover if I do brick my new P9. In the end (after a few bricks and a couple of mild heart attacks), I got there and to get there, I needed to grab information from multiple threads. So I have decided to put together this guide so people have a singular guide to debrand and get onto Android 7. Below are steps and threads I took to debrand my C34 to C432 and update it to B361.
What listed below is what I did to get onto Android 7, this may or may not work for you so use this guide at your own risk.
Using this Guide - Please read through this guide BEFORE attempting it. There is a lot of large files to download so I recommend that you download everything you need before you make a start and a fast and reliable internet is strongly recommended.
Prep Work
- Backup all your data because your phone will get wiped.
- Make sure you have the stock recovery already flashed and make sure your phone is not rooted (may not be necessary but this was the state my phone was in).
- Get yourself a bootloader code from Huawei. Go to http://www.emui.com/en/plugin/hwdownload/download, you will need to create a Huawei ID if you haven't already done so. Click on the Unlock Bootloader link and fill out the form, you should get a bootloader code almost instantly after submitting the form.
- Download and install HiSuite (http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/index.html).
- Download the SRK Tool from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66737472&postcount=2
Now lets make a start.
1. Download and flash the dload-huawei-p9-eval09-eva-b136.zip from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/stock-rom-dload-file-p9-eva-l09-b136-t3382818. Instructions on how to flash this is in the first post. After flashing, you should be on the L09C900B136 firmware. NOTE: If it boots up to a white screen asking you to enter password, reboot into recovery by holding volume up when you powering up your phone, do a wipe partition and factory reset. You may need to reboot your phone a number times before the phone boots up correctly.
2. After flashing and booting into the L09C900B136 firmware, you will need to unlock your bootloader and install TWRP. You can use the SRK Tool to do this, please have a look at this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66737472&postcount=2) and watch the video on how to do this. NOTE: You only need to unlock bootloader and install the TWRP recovery.
3. After your phone has been unlocked with TWRP recovery installed, download oeminfo-huawei-p9-eval09-c432.zip from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/c432-oeminfo-flash-twrp-t3384903 and flash it via TWRP. To get into TWRP, power off your phone and go into recovery by powering up your phone while holding volume up.
4. Once you flashed the oeminfo file via TWRP, power off your phone and repeat step 1. So you need to flash the dload-huawei-p9-eval09-eva-b136.zip file again via the dload method (power on the phone while holding volume up and volume down). NOTE: When you flash this firmware again, it will lock your bootloader (Fastboot will tell you that the phone is unlocked but I assure you, your bootloader is locked) and restore to stock recovery.
5. Once your phone has booted back up, go into the phone settings and you should see that your phone is now on the EVA-L09C432B136 firmware. To test that the firmware is working as intended, go into the phone settings and go into Updater, updater should pick up the B182 firmware and you should be able to update it to B182 without an issue.
UPDATE: A number of people has reported that they are getting the B166 update instead of B182, if this happes, do a wipe partition and a factory reset after updating to B166. When you get back in, you should be able to update to B182 via Updater in the Settings menu. If this method does not work, you can manually update to B182 by following the steps here: http://www.carbontesla.com/2016/11/download-huawei-p9-b182-marshmallow-update-europe/
6. After your phone has rebooted and you are on the B182 firmware, you need to now update the firmware to B361 via Huawei Updater 2.0 using this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70594380&postcount=2.
After all that is done, you should now have a debranded UK C432 P9 running EMUI 5.0.
Special thanks to @paulobrien, @somboons and @KrAzYtHeBoY for their guide, tools, files and video to make this update possible.
Props to you sir. I will try this when I get back. I don't have any doubts now after reading this guide.

Its very likely that debranding will void your warranty since you will need to unlock the bootloader and flash a firmware that is not the same as your original model.

Thanks for the guide. I've recently been battling away trying to go from C34 to C636 - still never got to the bottom of it.
Is that a typo in your post for your original model number - C43? Or did you come from Optus AU C34?
Either way - have you had any network issues in Australia with the new firmware?
Cheers.

Yep, its a typo, thanks for pointing it out. I have no issues what so ever, everything works perfectly fine and there has been no drop in cellular reception, wifi reception, GPS accuracy and etc. Apart from the build saying L09C432, you wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

Legend. Appreciate the reply - it was tough to find experienced Aussies on the same starting build/carrier.
Now I just wish I hadn't wasted the time going for the Asia Pacific variant!
Will get stuck into it this evening.

Great guide! Reading through it seems easier for it to be managed through hisuite/windows but I have a big issue. For some reason my computer won't recognize my phone! I installed the beta and am on build number EMUI-A168-L09C900B040SP11-log and since doing this stupid move I have been unable to connect to a computer nor install other builds or rollbacks directly on the device so I just feel like smashing it and claiming the insurance. Is there any advise that could be offered to maybe force a firmware upgrade?

I cant promise you that the guide I put together will work for you. If its a Nougat beta firmware then you would be technically doing a rollback to MM. Just a bit of a warning, a lot of people who try to roll back to MM, usually encounter problems, annoying problems. Unfortunately, I dont have much experience with this phone or how Huawei does things so I cant help you much. If I am in your shoes, I wouldn't attempt to debrand and flash Nougat using this guide.

I got theme and icon on mine but it may have came through when I flash B361. I went from a full factory reset on B136 to B182 to B361, not once did I stop to check to make sure all of the apps are installed, I only started setting up my phone and have a browse once I was on EMUI 5.0. It may be un-necessary to flash B166 if flashing B361 give you themes and icons.
If someone could double check on this when following this guide and report in, that would be great. I am not willing to test it out by rolling back to mushmellow.

Are you on an unbranded device?
If so, the official Huawei support page offers a rollback package if you updated to the Nougat beta.
Make sure you go to the page specific to your country.

Broken themes/icons seem to be caused by missing assets in the /CUST/ partition. I managed to get around it on my broken C900 firmware by separately flashing the /hw/normal/ package specific to the build. These can be found in the filelist.xml in the [WAREHOUSE] post - but you need to change the URL manually to grab the file.

So B361 will? Didn't know that.. Didn't want to risk it it took ages to download.. I had 3 folders in B136 but I flashed it via dial pad options.. Not 3btn..maybe if I would flash via 3btn it will give it back then and I wouldn't need B166..
Cannot be bothered.. It's done now..
Nougat best..

It makes no difference if you use the 3 button method or via the dial menu, both does exactly the same thing. I am only assuming that Themes could be installed when I flashed B361, I was not paying attention to the apps that was installed but I think this may be the case because I believe the Theme app was updated for EMUI 5.0, again all assumptions here.
Can I jump directly from b136 to b361?
Thanks in advance.

Try wiping partition and a factory rest and see if you get the B182 update. If not, you can download the B182 update and flash it via dload but if that does not work, you can try doing it via the Hisuite and Updater method.

Nougat won't do a 3 botton restore. The problem is in the fact you deleted the inf files for touch. I have a friend that works at huawei that can fix this with out wrecking your phone. Pm message me.

Hi, anyone else had a random reboot to Erecovery? Last night was the second time that I left my MHA-L09C432B156 on charge, all was fine, and wake during the early hours before needing to get up to see that the phone was randomly on Erecovery. I unplugged the charger, forced a reboot and it booted back up normally.
Found it a bit weird and luckily I noticed this before I was due to wake or else the alarms wouldn't have gone off!
Happened to me twice as well. No idea why it did that though.
Haven't had this problem for the past 3 weeks. I didn't change anything, it just went away by itself.
But I think the alarm is going to work anyway: when you turn off the phone there's an option to keep the alarm even though the phone is shut off. Might work as well when in eRecovery (you could test it).

Ahh glad I'm not the only one! I guess I could have a logcat running and check that next time it happens, but indeed not a frequent problem so will just have to see how it goes....
On a second thought: are you rooted?
If so, how did you root? I think this "problem" didn't occur to me anymore as soon as I 'fully' rooted the phone (changes to system survive a reboot now).

I am rooted, with the superuser.zip method, how about you?
Right now I'm rooted using rainondomartire's zip (it's for Mate 9 Pro but works the non-Pro version too). But before that I was on the first root method that was available for our Mate 9's, and that is when the reboot to eRecovery occurred twice. Might not be related at all though but haven't had it since (yet).

Ah nice, do you have a link to that one? Perhaps I could unroot and root again with that zip instead? Could I just flash it over it do you know?
Cheers

You will need to flash a clean boot.img first and then flash the zip that's on the first page. You can extract the boot.img from an update.zip if you have one, otherwise on the 3rd or 4th page the OP uploaded as well.

I have the same problem. I try using the stock recovery and also stock boot.
img, but in stock recovery an error occurs while checking the update.zip. It always delete the files for the update and after booting the system the update downloaded by the system again. After five tries I don't try it again.
Are there any possibilities to install this update without wiping the whole system?

With all due respect, there hasn't really been a new ROM since December, Huawei won't release the code so we can take their spyware out.

Yes mate.
I get what your saying and agree with you.
All I was saying is that there is place for questions and answers.
No biggy, don't effect my life at all.
Just saying
I still have not received this update.. feels like I'm the only one. Am I?

Update B360 on B380 without downgrade to MM.
1. Turn on FF and search for updates.
2. Set the proxy to localhost 8080.
3. In FF select B380 OTA-MF (383MB) and do not download only send to updater.
4. Go to system update tab and select the last full package. The system will find a full package with a long name of over 2GB.
5. Select the next find the last full package. Now the system should show the package about 400MB with the normal version name. Do not download!
6. Go to proxy settings and disable them.
7. Go back to the update tab and start downloading.
Should download, update. You have the B380 version.
After a few minutes after the update, the phone is standing on the start screen for a few minutes, waiting patiently.
