I'm a few days from returning my S7, and will likely hang out on my S4 til the end of the month, and keep an eye on this phone (or, re-buy an S7 is BL is ever unlocked..)
So I *really* hope so, but we'll see..
T-mobile already knows about this
Listen. TMobile already created ads for this LG phone, and I will bet you they already know whether or not the G5 has a locked Bootloader. We need someone at TMobile to discreetly let us all know.

Yes. Going to get the tmobile version.
Not sure if the intl version will be bootloader unlocked either.
T-Mobile LG G5
I just spoke to tech support through T-Mobile. The LG G5 will indeed be a locked bootloader! They said it's not the carriers choice. Tech support through LG says it's the carriers option. Of course the same she said he said game that has been played out in the past with previous phones. I was told that like in the past with the G4, people will have to wait to see if the company comes out with an unlock option down the road. I'm heartbroken....what to do what to do....

Well LG at least made the G4 bootloader unlocked in lieu of a warranty. Hopefully they will do the same with the G5.
Worried about a warranty? Don't be...just get insurance on the phone.

Well, to be honest the T-Mobile one. Why? Because I actually do have use for their WiFi calling. Yes I could buy let's say an international one if available, but I don't know if Marshmallow or N has native WiFi calling that will work with T-Mobile’s band 12 etc..
I could just actually use my Google Voice # or Google Hangout, but I get calls from landlines as well, not just wireless owners.
Now, Sprint made a deal with Google the integrate a cellphone's Sprint # as a Google Voice number. That's a great option...... But no such arrangements exist between TMobile and Google.

Oh, I get calls with both.
When someone calls my google voice number, it appears on my phone with their normal caller-id information, but underneath is a small 'Forwarded'. The small 'forwarded' is the clue I use to know which number they called me at.

Hi there,
I've been trying to unlock a T-Mobile LG G5 that I bought through ebay but nobody seems to be able to.
The unlock app returns that I'm not elegible for unlock.
I tried many third party unlock sites, but apparently my IMEI is not registered at T-Mobile.
I went to many T-Mobile stores, talked to managers, but I even though they all tried helping me unlock, since my device is paid (it shows up in their database as GOOD IMEI) and I'm not american, at the customer support (on the phone) they say they cant unlock my phone because my IMEI is not from their network. Although the phone IS from t-mobile, with t-mobile box, t-mobile rom, and t-mobile apps.
Does someone have any insight in what to do.
I tried even at ebay people that unblock blacklisted IMEIs, but mine just doesn't show up for anybody. I've been refunded for already 4 different unlocking services.
Is it possible my IMEI is really from another network and the device is locked there? Or is T-Mobile screwing something up?
PS: my phone does work with t-mobile, although the manager said I should watch out since my IMEI apparently is from another network, if it gets blacklisted there, I loose t-mobile access also.
Only T-Mobile can unlock. File paypal claim for fraud.

You need to have your phone running on t-mobile network for some time until it registers.
Maybe a pre-paid sim and make some calls every day for like 1 month.
After that t-mobile will be able to see it on their system.

Its been running at t-mobile for 1 week already and nothing yet.
Are you sure the IMEI will magically show up there?
Because the IMEI already shows up for the folks at t-mobile. It just doesn't show up at the imei check, nor for the unlock companies.
Is there a way to unlock through custom rom?
So I'm not saying this is the case but I did see reports last year from users who purchased units that were intended for employees. T-Mobile employees have access to a discounted G5 that is not intended for resale. Users that bought those G4s had issues with unlocking the device for some reason or another. The device itself is T-Mobile branded and the IMEI is clean but for some reason they are not recognized by the system to some extent. I'm just guessing that might be the case with your unit. Since you said that the IMEI is clean and that it is indeed a T-Mobile unit. I don't know of a solution since I did not see updates from those users that had purchased it secondhand.

Ok so I had this exact same problem with my LG V10 which I bought off swappa. I live in Canada so what I had to do was buy a prepaid north American roaming plan and use the phone on their network for at least 40 days. After which time i requested an unlock and they granted it. However it wouldn't actually work. this continued for a couple months and I was giving up hope. I had at least 10 unlock request "approved" yet it wouldn't work. Tmo even told me it wasn't a tmo phone. which of course it was. Anyway I spoke with several tech people and supervisors and nothing worked. So then I filed a complaint with the fcc and a few days later I got a call from a lady who was able to resolve it. Here's her info so you can reach out to her after you've reached the 40 day eligibility provided it doesn't work. She can make it happen.

Thank you!
I am going through the same hell you went through.
I've been approved unlock from 5 different supervisors. And none of them understand why my phone isn't getting unlocked.
It seams like the system know the IMEI is not bought at a T-Mobile store (although it IS t-mobile phone) and is not registerind on the unlock database.
All supervisors act as surprised that I'm not being able to unlock the device since it shows to them as unlocked.
How do I open a claim at FCC? I'm from brazil. Am I allowed to enter a claim?!
And do I really need to wait for 40 days to contact this Jennifer? What are the requirements?

Requirements are that device must be paid in full, you must use it in their network for 40 days. If you've done both of those them just contact Jennifer directly. Email and then call her. If you don't get a reply Google the fcc in USA and file a claim about tmo refusing to unlock your phone. That's how I worded mine. I just said I meet all the requirements and they refuse to do it...might be a stretch of the truth but it worked.
I've got bigger problems.
T-Mobile doesn't have a roaming plan in my country (brazil).
So I wont be able to stay in their network for 40 days.

I didn't have this complications unlocking my T-Mobile Lg G5 at all. I purchased it off ebay and i live already overseas, then upon checking eligibility for unlocking over T-Mobile IMEI verification, it came out that the phone has a bad ESN / IMEI due to outstanding balance. Third party websites like unlockbase or unlockunit don't unlock bas IMEI phones already, so i used one service on ebay that was same price as unlockbase and unlockunit ( about 40$) and they unlocked my phone within 36 hours. I then run the Unlock app, permanent unlock and voila, unlocking done and device rebooted. This was on April 14th.
I don't know if lately T-Mobile added some security on their servers so that IMEI won't be accessable by third parties. And i helped lot of guys on my thread unlock their devices as well through the procedure i already went through.

Not at all. I unlocked my black ESN/IMEI Lg G5 and it is working super fine. and that was 14th April, and unlocking took less than 36 hours. Maybe T-Mobile added lately some security stuff to prevent these unlocking procedures.

I am afraid this will be faaaaar hard to get. T-Mobile Lg G5 has a pretty locked Bootloader with is super hard to unlock. Rooting and TWRP as well are still pending for this device. So flashing a custom ROM ( when available) might solve it but you have to wait for some time for that.

You might have bought a non-activated t-mobile phone. So that's why the IMEI is totally not on their database, and in case they will find it it will show unlocked because device is not activated. The device should have been activated on the same account or the origial purchaser. After the minimum period of use on their network it will show up on the IMEI verification. What they are seeing now is the device original IMEI in their system ( each device IMEI should be entered in their system before offering for sale), but this IMEI will show up in the verification area only when it gets activated and the carrier network recognizes it that it is SIM unlocked. I suppose so...

Will other networks ever get this phone ?
I bought mine directly from the Google Store and I am currently using on Tmobile.
I have also read of users buying from Google and activating on Sprint.
I'm on Sprint and bought directly from Google. The Sprint store didn't have the micro SIM or whatever this phone takes, so I had to buy one from best buy. The people that work at the Sprint store are really stupid, so don't bother having them activate it for you. Youre better off calling them and actually talking to someone or doing a live chat online. Trying to activate it yourself on their website doesn't work either

The only real diff is that the CDMA have to have the CDMA telephony files and programs that are not open source. These things can only be done by the carrier as they are each very different.

If the hardware is the same as the rest of the major carriers, like the S7 versions are, then flashing the firmware of other carriers will work if that's what you're going for. No idea if this will work as of yet but by the end of the week I'm sure we'll all know the answer to that. But by the sounds of it, you will need to get your phone carrier unlocked before doing that.

Dependent on carrier unless you are able to flash the US unlocked version, then it comes directly from Samsung. But like stated above, we're not exactly sure if that's an option as of yet.

If you get the unlocked version from HTC's website, does it support Sprint, or will they have different radios? I tweeted HTC and they said that the unlocked version will NOT support Sprint.... But if you look on there website at the radios then I don't see an issue, they are the same as the unlocked version.
Here is a link to the website for the radios.
http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-u11/buy/#!color=black
And the unlocked radios:
http://www.htc.com/us/go/htc-u11-unlocked/
I also asked if I were to get the Sprint version would that support all other carriers (ie. AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon), I did not get a response from HTC.
I will say this would be absolutely ridiculous if the Sprint version is dumb down and doesn't support the rest of the world. I honestly would think about switching if this were the case. I just want to be on a GSM carrier that I don't have to worry about "if my phone will work" on this network. Annoying.
BTW I say this because I travel a lot, so having 1 phone that works everywhere would be the best thing in the world.

out of the box, the Unlocked ROM would not support Sprint, but the hardware is the same between the unlocked & sprint, so technically you could flash the Sprint ROM on the unlocked model. The problem is the unlocked IMEI would not be whitelisted. As far as the Sprint model supporting the GSM carriers...yes it would, provided the sim was unlocked...or you could flash the unlocked ROM.

out of the box, the Unlocked ROM would not support Sprint, but the hardware is the same between the unlocked & sprint, so technically you could flash the Sprint ROM on the unlocked model. OMFG THANK YOU! This makes way more sense now. I have been all over the Internet looking for an answer. Well at least I know the actual hardware is the same.
I feel like having to deal with hoping that Sprint will support the unlocked devices IMEI wpuld be worse then buying the Sprint flavor.
So I have 2 easy options then.
1. Buy it from Sprint at full price and do not extend my contact. Then have them unlock it which they can't say no to if I have no obligation to them.
2. Buy it from HTC but in the Sprint version. But I have to figure out if it is unlocked. I think it is. It looks like it is on there website.
Man I hate how buying phones and carrier plans work in the US. I wish we would go to an overseas model, and almost every phone is unlocked. Then you just decided what service you want yourself. So easy to just walk in a store and get service with whatever phone you want.

Ah that is very handy, I might look into doing that. Thank You.
However, I do think I am going to purchase the phone at full price anyway as that is what I was planning on doing, but this is good to know. At least the hardware is the same and I wont be locked down by Sprint. I should just buy it direct from HTC I think.

Yeah, it is cheaper to buy from HTC at full price especially with the $50 off code.. Plus you could make interest free payments via PayPal credit if you wanted to

Ya I was thinking the same thing. But its weird on HTC's website if you select the Sprint version it doesn't have the color black. But if you go to sprint they do..... facepalm.
Also I spoke with Sprint yesterday to see if they would tell me if the unlocked one works, and they refused to even check. They wanted the MEID of the device, which I don't have, and I told them I don't have it until I buy the phone online and have it shipped to me. So this is annoying.
Also I just ran across this article on Android Central that the Verizon version dose not have CDMA radios. Now that makes me wonder about the Sprint version.

I swear this is a headache. Just go to Sprint and buy the dang thing, then either unlock it myself or have them do it. Just have to suck up the extra $50.

Ya I guess you are right on that. I don't even want the things, I suppose I could just sell them. But I know myself and i am bad a selling electronics even if I don't want them.
Oh and went to Sprint's website today and I could not even click on the HTC U 11. I hope they didn't stop pre-orders. Or I could just till the device comes out I suppose.
If I buy the Sprint version from HTC. Can I still have Sprint unlock it?

last time I checked the device had to be active for 3 months before they would unlock, but not sure if anything has changed....but like I said earlier, it's not difficult to unlock yourself

Pre-ordered mine today and haven't received any sort of confirmation email from HTC. I also got 2-day shipping...we'll see if that makes any difference as to when it will :fingers-crossed:show up. :fingers-crossed:
Edit: Cancelled my pre-order and confirmed with 2 people on the support staff that they will not be shipping until mid-month.

Hey guys. Kinda bad news. HTC (Germany) just told me after telling me this morning my unit will ship today that it will ship on the 8th of June.
I asked why they didn’t contact me and sent me an email telling me it is delayed. They just told I am expected to contact them in order to know my shipping date. A bit ridiculous.
I sincerely hope they don’t have hardware issues.
Well if it’s the same as with my pixel xl then we all have to wait because HTC cant keep its production up with the demand.

Okay so obviously the phone will be sold on TMobile. However, I am not a TMobile customer. I am going to the popup event tomorrow tho and was wondering, can I buy a 7pro and have it unlocked right then and there from TMobile?

If it was anything like the 6T, even if you buy it out-right, there was a 40 day wait period to get it unlocked.

Many people were getting it unlocked without the wait. Even then people have sim unlocked the 6t without TMobile just from some fastboot codes. Think the same for the 7 pro would work?

No no I'm talking about the 6t. Many people were just doing chats with TMobile reps and getting their phones unlocked.

Yeah I was kind of thinking the same thing. Like I said T-Mobile is the exclusive, they wouldn't be outright selling the Unlocked version.
EDIT: Alrighty then guess they did this time around
I bet you you have a tmobile boot up screen when you put your sim in..... [emoji4]
