4 persons have 4 phones:
1 Sony Xperia Z3
2 Samsung Note 4 Edge
3 Samsung Galaxy S4
4 LG Leon
We're thinking about upgrading
1 Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
2 Sony Xperia Z5
3 Sony Xperia Z5 / Z5 compact
4 Sony Xperia Z5 compact
Usage:
1 watching movies (from own NAS, online or Netflix), playing games, social media, photographing/filming in and around the water, playgrounds etc.
2 manage webshop, social media, photographing/filming on land, SpotifyC
3 takes a lot of pictures of her grandchildren and wants good images. Most are to be shown on TV, computer or phone, but some are to be printed in albums or at cards, further only phone and social media function
4 watching YouTube, playing games
For which users is it not wise to switch to the Xperia Z5?
There are many negative reviews about the camera online and especially #3 is going for the quality of the images and movies.

And now for some comparison? I don't have the knowlegde about the differences all I can find are negative reviews about the Z5 and the camera.
Indoor children photos or anything that moves actually you'll have a hard time capturing. Z5 is good though for daylight pics.

Are the pictures and video's taken with the Z5 in general better than those from the other 4 devices?

Sony officially unveiled the hotly anticipated Xperia Z1 that has become well-known under the internal petname Honami. The Z1 brought friends on stage – the QX line of lens-style cameras and a number of other accessories.
Sony Xperia Z1
The Z1 is undoubtedly the star of the show – measuring just 8.5mm in thickness, the Xperia Z1 houses a large 1/2.3" sensor – that's about 70% larger than the sensors on most phones and Sony achieved it without a hump on the back like most other handsets with large sensors.
The camera uses all-Sony tech – an F/2.0 Sony G Lens, a Sony Exmor RS sensor and a Sony BIONZ image processor.
The camera shoots 20.7MP stills and records 1080p video (sorry, no 4K). Sony has developed a custom camera app that offers manual controls and impressive augmented reality features. Third-party devs will be able to use the advanced features of the camera to make their own apps as well.
The Xperia Z1 justifies its name by borrowing the best features of the Xperia Z – slim, water resistant body with OmniBalance design, a sharp 5" 1080p screen and powerful Snapdragon chipset. However, the Z1 is certified to go deeper underwater, it has a new, higher-quality screen and it packs the latest Snapdragon 800 chipset running a Sony-customized version of Android 4.3. And the battery capacity has been bumped up to 3,000mAh.
The new flagship has 4G LTE connectivity, along with Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and NFC, which are used to connect with the next couple of gadgets.
The Sony Xperia Z1 will be available this month in Black, White and Purple.
Sony Cyber-shot QX100 and QX10
The Sony Cyber-shot QX line of lens-style cameras launches with two models – the QX100 and QX10. Both have their own optics and image sensor and can use an Android or iOS device as viewfinder (pairing is done with NFC if available then the image is streamed over Wi-Fi).
The QX100 has a huge 1" Exmor R sensor with 20.2MP resolution, F/1.8 ZEISS Vario-Sonar T* lens, 3.6x optical zoom and stabilization – the same specs as the acclaimed Sony RX100M II. The QX10 is more compact and features a longer zoom range – 10x – and has a Sony G Lens coupled with a 1/2.3" 18.2MP Exmor R sensor.
Both lens-style cameras shoot 1,440 x 1080p video at 30 frames per second and have enough juice in their batteries for 230 shots (or 55-65 minutes of video recording depending on the model). The QX cameras can attach to smartphones of various sizes and some Xperia phones will get dedicated cases that protect the phone and offer an attachment point for the camera. Both QX100 and QX10 can work separately from the phone, while still streaming to the viewfinder, which makes framing in tight spots a breeze.
Looks cool, and would be really cool if they had the clip and full integration with our phones, which I doubt, because we'll probably get left out in the cold with support for it. Reading articles, the 100 model is going to be $500, and $250 for the 10 model. A bit pricey too.
The lens are horribky overpriced, and only available now on the XZ. Would love to use one of those lens attachments on the L!!

Sony today announced the launch of its flagship Xperia Z1 smartphone in the Indian market. The smartphone, which goes on sale today, has been priced at INR 44,990.
Sony India introduces Cyber-shot QX10 (12,990), QX100 (24,990) lens-style camera & Smartwatch 2 (14,990).
I did try the snap on DSLR lens; really cool. And works with my XL.

In the store where I'm buying a new smartphone, both Xperia Z and Nexus 5 16 gb have the same price.
So I would like you to tell me what you think is best.
My main usage is social apps/web browsing, watch movies, listen to music, take casual photos and gaming (just a little).
I know the N5 has a much better cpu and gpu, but I'm not going to play much hardcore games (maybe just some GTA).
The advantages of Xperia Z are:
micro-sd slot (big advantage for me)
it's waterproof (awesome)
better battery life(?)
has better headphone audio quality
even though it hasn't got android 4.4 yet, it has android 4.3 with Sony apps
better overall quality
I can't really decide because I like Nexus 5 too, it's design and screen.
Just another question do you think is Xperia Z worth 70€ more than Nexus 4? (not related to the main choice)
Thank you.

Hold off for the Nexus 5 for now as there are many issues with it and google cannot get solid ground whether its a hardware or software issue, especially on the mic. Generally when a new device comes out i let it wait out and watch for bugs so I don't suffer through them but this time I couldn't resist.
I dont think xperia z is gud...one of my colleague had z...the display on it was sh*tty!! Bettr go for z1...its on par with N5....i hav N5 and my colleague exchanged his z with z1..
Z1 has superior camera, battery, display on par, sony apps+ android 4.4 on the way!!
But personally i prefer my N5 as its smaller more compact more lighter..

I had the Xperia Z and returned it within 2 days. The battery life was HORRID and it couldn't be flashed or anything had I decided to do it. It was a beautiful phone and I loved the features but it chewed through almost 70% of my battery within 4 hours with only about 2 hours of that total being used to play games and surf the web.
My Nexus 5 on the other hand, stock, would go all day with the same usage. Now that I flashed a custom rom and kernel it lasts even longer. It doesn't have a microSD nor is it waterproof. But if storage is an issue then save up $50 more and get the 32gb version. Also, phones don't belong in water anyways and I've always been in the mindset to keep my phone in my pocket and use a bluetooth headphones to take calls.
Xperia z is garbage. Do not recommend

z1 is beautiful.
We can't decide for you, its your money your purchase.
Yeah you're all right I should pick N5, the problem is the Nexus 5 is out of stock atm in store I have to buy it, I'm hoping it gets back on by the end of the week.
In case it doesn't, I have to pick another phone because I have a coupon that ends at that time. So if that would happen, is the Xperia Z worth the 100$ over the Nexus 4?

Again, if battery is one of your main concerns then the Xperia Z shouldn't be on your list. But if I had to pick another phone because the Nexus 5 isn't in stock, I would go with the Moto X.
had one year ago xperia z just a while and sold it.
the main reason that you will not get the same speed and support like for the nexus 5.
and even with so popular galaxy s4, our still not that smooth like nexus 5.
why other companies cannot get normal android os for their devices and do not install their garbage software.
when I test z1 and z. the speed on z1 is definitely faster than z. But I prefer N5 than z1.

fyi i own n5 and xz and the xperia z has a better cam and is a perfect outdoor phone, the n5 is the speed monster. Combined they are a good team
Also the Xperia Z's battery time is much better than the n5's.

I've been a long time Xperia user. Currently have the Z3 and plan to move up to XZ. The Z3 camera is a so so. Beaten by Samsung and iPhone easily. The Z3 is flare galore and I have 2 of them purchased at different times so it is not a sampling issue.
The Xperia XZ is now advertised as "Our camera know-how, in a smartphone". With all those fancy laser focus, high megapixels, and quick focus; yet, from the following review, iPhone 7 beats the XZ in terms of IQ and resolution. Resolution, at least, in the blue colors.
Please tell me the review above is incorrect and the XZ camera is at least comparable to iPhone 7.
From my experience with my XP vs iPhone 6 the iPhone almost always adheres true to the experience detailed in this video.
I would anticipate that the video comparison is true to past form which seemingly continues through to the XZ/iPhone7 stand off.
Unfortunate yes. Somehow iphone are always sh!tting on Sony's camera advances.
You'd be forgiven to think Sony would have the upper hand in atleast the camera department. But it's just not the case. Sure the XZ is going to have a great camera, but I would assume the conclusion from the video would remain true.
Albeit first hand comparisons are required to judge for self. Even then, unfortunately I foresee I'd probably end up concurring with the btekt guys conclusion (based on historical trends with what Sony and indeed iPhone bring to the table with each respective iteration.)

Watching above video, I noticed that his xperia xz camera was in manual mode and not in default values because settings icon turned blue.
Pictures of low light seem over exposure with xperia. I don't think it was on default setting.
I doubt the video is unbiased. Just my cents.

Sony just developed these new sensors.. and as always they need a lot of time to tweak the software in order for everything to work correctly and as it should. Basically it is happening with every sony device. So let's be patiend and see how the XZ is going to.. ''evolve''.

Exactly, it really does not seem to be "default" setting for Sony.
But will need to test low light pictures on my own to get the clue.
I know how it was with Z5, I really hope this time they are doing proper testing before putting it into the boxes...
I had never seen a sony phone that in it's first or second release rom the camera or overall experience is good. a couple or rom updates, and then it could give more fight.
Anyway, it's a shame that sony develop the iphone camera's sensors, but for own usage, they use (IHMO) the less good. OR, the camera software by sony is a crap.
In my experiences with Xperia videography (from Z2 onwards) it's best to deactivate Scene Autodetection because it stops camera software over-compensating when perhaps you don't want/need it to ...
Whilst I think the iPhone records superb video, so does my XP (and so did my Z2, Z3+, Z5C) ... I'd be hard pressed to tell you which is which in blind testing.
The XZ I have on order should only improve the Sony videography.
Also, have you tried recording stereo sound with your video on the iPhone? It's a hassle and can't be done without addons (I'm pretty sure the iPhone 7(+) still records monaural unless someone can correct me?)
Smartphone Photography belongs to Apple.
Smartphone Videography, the motion picture, *could* belong to Sony if they get their marketing right (and their thermals lol)
Can you change white balance settings (not just the tint) in video mode? There is a video on YouTube comparing it to the iPhone 6 Plus and the WB control on the XZ is terrible - it shifts whenever the camera moves to the tables while the iPhone is fairly stable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNFsnQg3cG8
It is a personal point of view but Sony is way better than 6s... At least for me and from this comparison.

Camera review
A few things that occur to me with any cam comparison is what the photographers knowledge/skill is and, as mentioned above, what settings were used. Those things affect the final output of the camera. I try to determine if their knowledge/skill is similar to mine. Then I can determine if I could have possibly gotten a better picture or not in a similar situation.
Try to find comparison photos on the web from the cameras you want to compare. Make sure they're not altered and that you know what settings were used. Each phone has it's own signature on the picture and you may prefer a certain phone's "photo look" over another. Some phones are good in some conditions, some are better in others. Some are good overall, but not great in any one area. Determine what matters to you most.
Beyond the actual photo quality, there's the user experience that must also be considered. Focus speed, shutter responsiveness, app ease-of-use...that all makes a difference.
Iphone has better cameras. I'm ashamed of my 23megapixel camera

Hi,
Just made a small video campring cameras of Samsung pride S9m Plus & Sony's best Xperia XZ Premium.
Watch video here: https://youtu.be/YaO5jlQTSHk
I am not a photographer, so all these pics are taken just like 95% of population does. All pics are taken with automatic settings.
Hope you like it. Thanks a lot
Hi, just want to share a few pictures comparing the 3 phones.
All three running latest stock. Xperia 1 is 12MP, Xperia XZ1 19MP and Xperia XZ 23MP.
(first time creating a post like this, if some one can post the pictures to be viewed directly feel free to do so)
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2wcxcyo5wmehboq/AAAm2yYsLBGbH5cCkEmineN0a?dl=0
That's a good exemple of what I experience whit mine, when there is no need for HDR, like the city landscape, the shots are really great due to the high amount of detail. But when HDR is needed due to dark and light areas like here indoor, the Xperia 1 can't keep up.
damn..they really uped their game with the X1.. i have the XZ1...i guess its time to upgrade...let me see what they release in IFA..
