[MOD][6.0 hboot][no red writing] - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I was annoyed at having to look at the red text after flashing the recently released MM firmware so I thought I would share this modified hboot.img where I removed it.
A faux hboot was also requested which falsely shows locked & s-on. It's unclear what exactly people want this for but I discourage using this to sell or return a phone under the false pretenses of it being bone stock, locked, s-on. There are steps you can take to properly achieve that.
These have been tested with fastboot (RUU mode) but the sdcard method (0p6bimg.zip on the root of removable storage) should work just fine.

Yeah, exactly how I always flash them

Any chance a faux locked bootloader can be made? They come in handy when needing to show a vzw rep ur phone to prove its "stock"

Maybe. I'm curious to look into this as well. No promises as this seems at least a little more involved and the last thing I'm gonna do is brick my (or someone else's) phone just for the sake of satiating my budding curiosity.

Sweet. Thanks.

This is always the first thing I'm looking for after a firmware update. Thank you!

Added faux locked s-on noredtext hboot to OP.

Working Perfect...!!!
Thank you... :highfive:

Does this work on all variants? I have an international GSM and want to give it to HTC to get a new battery. That red screen might get them un s-offing me.

I have a question...
What did you do to make it work through the SD card method, I am trying to change my splash screen without using ADB.

It's simply a matter of zipping up the file(s) you want flashed that have been named correctly alongside an android-info.txt file that matches you phone. If you download one of the firmware files I linked to you can see what the correct filenames are. I think the splash screen are named splash1.<something>.
The android-info.txt file doesn't actually say anything about the other files alongside it to be flashed. It serves as a sort of validation check that the whole zip is meant for the phone. My zips only contain the hboot while the ruus have like 15 files but the android-info.txt files are identical.
A proper android-info.txt file + correctly named files + being zipped = sd card OR RUU mode flashable.

Will this work on a S-ON device ? I kinda wanna get rid of the red text at boot...but my device is S-ON

No it will not. How did you end up with the red text but s-on? Is it a vzw device?

Nope, it's Internation GSM variant

An unlocked bootloader only gives you access to flash unsigned files to a few partitions like boot (kernel) and system, probably another one or two.
S-off is required to flash unsigned files to other partitions like hboot. Not to mention, the files in this thread are specific to the vzw hboot so even if you could flash them I wouldn't recommend it.

Stuck Stuck Stuck

Hi Guys,
I really need some help this one........ I rooted my phone sometime ago now and recently in my stupid idiot mind decided to unroot (Yeah stupid i know). Firstly i flashed the RUU:
RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.12.401.2_Radio_11.65.3504.00U_11.19.3504.29_2_test_233440.exe
Then i went through the s-on process when i finished and rebooted the phone it just kept going to htc logo then blank screen then off and just repeats this process. I've gone into Hboot screen and get this image in the attachment.
Any advice or help would really help I've come over from the Darkside of iPhone so I'm fairly new to all this.
With S-On, you cannot flash a rom from a different region. And your bootloader has changed to 1.23 which i dont think revolutionary is compatible with (the tool to s-off your phone). try flashing the original rom of your phone.
Try flashing an older RUU so u can downgrade hboot version and try running revolutionary again. If not try using official HTC boot unlocker
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA Premium App
Thanks for the reply's I'm sure I've tried to downgrade but I've no clue what version was on the phone before root, i know it was the latest gingerbread at the time 3.4 ???????? Oh and I'm in the UK if that helps?????
http://www.filefactory.com/f/c87a2330449af512/
Here you can find all the shipped ROMs for Sensation. There are 4 there, if u search for the word "UK", T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange and H3G. Pickup the one according to your operator.
But please dont use any of those in case your phone is not bound to any operator. Then you'll have to figure out something else. Update here if that is the case and will try to find a ROM for you.

DAMN man! You decided to go S-ON on a ICS LEAK???..... Pretty silly mate
Since you are in the UK, I would go for a STOCK unbranded RUU, to be on the safe side. Search the forum to try and find the stock 1.18.000 hboot.img and flash via PG58IMG in recovery, as the newer hboot's like you now have dont support fastboot commands.
I really dont know otherwise mate....You may have to use htcdev.com to unlock bootloader.
When i purchased the phone it was unlocked but i use Orange uk. I'm not bothered if it was unlocked as I'm only going to use Orange uk anyway so thats not an issue.
I've tried most of the RUU for Europe but just keep getting errors i really do think its a dead end..........
Yeah I'm stupid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've tried loads of RUU off there and just keep getting errors I've unlocked using htc.dev software, I'll put up another picture of the current state of the device.

Ok.... Try follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228648 to get stock recovery. Use the 'GET STOCK RECOVERY MANUALLY' and only follow it to step 5.
Get the recovery_signed.img from an RUU like it says... preferably this one http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0a...00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_228602_signed.exe
Once you got it zip it up using 7zip file manager or winzip etc... and rename it to PG58IMG.zip
Place on your SD card and boot into bootloader and when it asks to update click yes and see if it changes your boot loader back to stock 1.18.000. If it does..then s-off again using revolutionary then FLASH an OFFICIAL RUU not a LEAK!!
If that dont work HTCDEV.com it is mate
I hope this helps.. I not at all experienced much either, but know enough to watch my arse and be careful. You may need an experienced dev from xda to give you some advise

It's 'already' unlocked via htc? damn man.... I really dont know then bud. You going s-on on a phone which is already s-off'd by htcdev.com was a waste of time really, because they already know it been unlocked whether you went back to s-on or not.

Right, turn off the phone, now take the .zip file off the sd card and boot into bootloader again but DONT press anything. just tell me what it says now at the top. What hboot number does it say?
You have a stock recovery now, so clicking on recovery inside boot loader takes you to that screen.

As of right now no, were all basically stuck. Htc say they'll release a update at the end of the month to allow unlocking but that will void your warranty. Im just waiting for a crack for this version. Shouldn't Be too long i hope.

I did not realize that this phone still had an unlocked bootloader when I purchased it a few days ago. It's unfortunate how the HTC Unlocker was glitchy with the MT4GS; it might be why there's such a lack of development right now, haha.

I think we can start shelving the idea that there's a lack of dev for the device - some definite strides being made in that direction now.
We could always use more people helping make stuff, though.

I need a copy of an S-ON bootloader that has not been unlocked.
I need both S-ON 1.44.0007 and S-ON 1.45.0013 - if anyone can get either to me that would be great.
They are only 1MB in size and can be attached to a post in the forum.
If you can get it - attach it as a reply to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254518
The terminal command to back up a copy of it is:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of=/sdcard/hboot.img
That will place a copy of your hboot on your sdcard, called hboot.img, if run from a terminal.
Nlarge got his unlocked S-ON bootloader added to that thread, now we need some regular S-ON ones to compare them to. If anyone can figure out how to get one to us it would be helpful.
We are trying to work the S-ON issue, but it's not exactly an easy nut to crack and we've mostly just started.
Thanks for any help that can be provided. This may not be all we need, but it's a start.
Hasn't anyone been able to flash the original PG59IMG.zip via the OTAbootloader patch?
Delivered via candygram for Mr. Mongo.

Cool, we'll look it over and see what we come up with. No promises, just gonna look and see what we see and hope it leads to something.
The hboot may or (more likely) may not be the whole problem for s-off/s-on, but the more we have to play with the more we are learning.

Okay, we are working on that, etn4off is leading the charge on adb through stock recovery, so hold that thought.
Meantime, i've whipped up a new version of the stock restore .zip file, that should work on the new OTA.
( Make sure you have a full battery first!)
Edit - didn't work
What you have to do is rename the file to:
PG59IMG.zip
...then place on the main directory of your sdcard.
Make sure fastboot is turned off in settings on the phone, and then power off.
Hold Volume Down and press Power to turn it on, booting into hboot. The installer will take over from there and guide you through it.
It will load itself, then ask you to press Volume UP to install - then does it's thing and will tell you to press power to reboot when it is done.
This is basically the same restore file you get from here: Thread Link updated for the new OTA.
This should solve the version mismatch problem people were having, but won't know until someone tries to install it.
Afterwards you can run Revolutionary to S-OFF your 1.44.0007 hboot.
You will no longer be on the newest OTA, but then you can apply it if you want and go back - as long as you run the Revolutionary process on the 1.44.0007 hboot before you do.
I'm going to try this asap

No. That's why I said we won't know until someone tries.
I've run the package on both of my devices, so can attest to it working - but they are both s-off.
I've run it from the device in the newest OTA form, and it brought me back, but the old package did too - seems no version check on my devices (probably any s-off devices)
I've run from all versions of the hboot - 1.44.0006, 1.44.0007, 1.44.1107, and 1.45.0013, but they were all s-off.
As for what happens with an s-on device... ...? I updated the version because in another thread that was pinpointed as the problem for it not installing on the newest OTA.

Okay thanks, it was pretty much an 'it will do it or it won't' situation, so we'll have to try something else.
I wish I could get an s-on device in my hands that I could try stuff on - for now it's test and test and test on the s-off, then try on the s-on ...
Sorry it didn't work, we'll have to try another way.
I'll give this a try as well, even though it supposedly doesn't work. Better try than not.
Is what you're trying to do make the older ROM (with the 1.44.0007 HBOOT) appear as an update to the newer update so we can, in a way, downflash to the older HBOOT that's compatible with the Revolutionary tool?
I'm kind of new to the whole Android scene and am just curious as to how things work.

If this flashes it should revert the phone back to retail launch - but it's probably not going to. Finding a way to force it could have a less then desirable outcome.
If it doesn't take, don't try to force the issue with it unless you know what you're doing and why.
Well I tried it as well and it got a check, but it didn't install anything. I wish I had the know-how to mess around with this stuff.

[FIX] Flashed Wrong Recovery image

Alright, so we all know it's confusing to differentiate the One XL from the One X, especially since Rogers and AT&T insist on calling it the One X.
IF YOU HAVE A "ONE X" FROM ROGERS/AT&T, YOU HAVE THE ONE XL. DON'T EVEN BOTHER VISITING THE ONE X FORUMS.
Now, you've gone and downloaded CWM from the One X forums and flashed it to your One XL, and you're semi-bricked. Let's get you out of that pickle. Please note that I have not done any of this to my own One XL, as there's no ROMs or custom recovery images or kernels for our phone yet. However, just this morning I performed a similar operation on my Jetstream, and the steps will be identical. I take no responsibility for any problems you experience.
First, you'll need to download the leaked RUU that can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1550930
EDIT: designgears has offered a newer recovery image. I'm not sure what advantages it would bring, but at least there's a second option: http://www.gigashare.in/53885
Please note that this is marked as the AT&T RUU, so there's no guarantee this will work for Rogers. However, your recovery mode is screwed anyway, so in my opinion, it couldn't hurt to try.
Once you've downloaded the RUU, run it. You don't need to install the RUU itself, we just have to have the application running. Once running, it'll create a "rom.zip" file in a temp folder somewhere in your user profile. While the RUU is open, just search for "rom.zip" and you should find it. Open this file and extract "recovery_signed.img" to your computer, into the same folder as your "fastboot" application. Once you've done this, close the zip file and exit the RUU.
Now, boot your device into fastboot mode
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Once in bootloader mode, you may need to select "fastboot" from the menu.
Now that you're in fastboot mode, you can flash the recovery we extracted from the RUU:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
Your screen will go through a couple brief steps, something like "sending recovery_signed.img" then "writing recovery_signed.img" and then "OK."
Try to boot into recovery now, and you should see the standard HTC recovery mode!
I really hope this helps everyone out. I'll iterate again that I have no tried this with my One XL, so I have no actual proof that this will work. But, if you've already flashed the wrong recovery image, you should be somewhat familiar with these steps already.
EDIT: Please post your success with this method. As I haven't tested, I'd like to know if everything's kosher, and I can change the instructions accordingly if something's wrong.
Hey, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, went to bed.
Here is just the recovery image for a newer, unreleased leak.

Heh, don't apologize to me, my phone's locked and running fine. (I've had the phone since Friday... I think this is the longest I've ever gone without rooting an Android phone.)
I'll put that link up in the first post, thanks!
EDIT: Oh! And is that AT&T or Rogers?

It's AT&T recovery.
Flashed but still having trouble. Got into recovery but can't boot.
Going to see if re-locking the bootloader may help. Only thing different I've done is that I ran that flash_boot.zip thing that Leedroid had on his page. It just seems to push a boot.img file and clear the fastboot cache.
Does anyone have that particular boot.img file? Pretty please?
For myself I will leave it for now and wait until an official rogers RUU or custom recovery to make sure I don't break it again

The rom.zip file from the AT&T ruu should have the boot.img file in it. you can flash it with
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
However, the boot partition is a WEE bit more critical to the phone's function than the recovery partition. Dunno if I'd be flashing it myself, at least not to a Rogers phone.

Thanks, man. Someone said they flashed the entire RUU to their Rogers phone so I don't think it could be too harmful.
I only have my Ubuntu machine and Wine is being fussy and not extracting the rom.zip archive properly. I'll see if something gets released soon. I rarely see Rogers RUU so hopefully I'm not waiting too long. Reactivated my SIM for my Galaxy Nexus but still sad lol
I feel your pain!

I've been in the same boat brother, minus flashing the boot.img file. Did you end up resolving/unbricking your XL? If not, I can extract the boot.img from my Rogers phone if that would help.
Btw, I haven't been on the forums in a couple of days, but I caught wind of your predicament and I'm surprised at the trouble you've had recently asking for help in this matter. Some people are ridiculous!
Truth is, we have this pretty new device that we want to take advantage of! We got excited, and f'd up. Anyhow, let me know if I can help.

That would be freakin' wicked, man. Recovery works but that darn boot.img probably needs replacing. If you could pull stock recovery too that might help as well.
Been a bad day lol... broke my hand on cement earlier too so this is appreciated. Ouch, knuckle is all over the place. Hopefully I get this phone workjing soon to take my mind off things LOL

Ok, I'm in the middle of downloading the evita leaked files. I can't extract it from my phone since I need root... unless you know a way other than adb shell? Either way, I don't think you can access it without root. I've tried a few ways with no luck.
I see you can't access the evita files so the best I can do for you is extract it from there for you. Download is slow as hell, so bear with me!

Bongd, The recovery works for you? My situtation is in the same boat with Krepler minus the boot.img. I am little bit worry if I load the AT&T recovery and that will conflict the boot.img in Rogers phone.

Krepler, Can you tell me how did you solve your recovery? I am in your sisutation as well, flash the wrong recovery and once I boot to recovery and it will occur the boot loop, however I am still able to use the One X (Semi-bricked). Did you flash the stock recovery from Rogers or the one that you just posted from AT&T?

One does not interfere with the other. Recovery is pretty much its own operating system, completely segregated from the rest of the phone. It can neither hinder nor enhance the booting of your phone in normal mode. You could theoretically flash a random sequence of ones and zeros to the recovery partition, and the phone would continue to boot just fine. Until you try and go into recovery mode that is. Flashing the recovery_signed.img as per my instructions is safe in regards to the phone's normal operation. I can't promise that it's a working recovery, however, as I've not tried it myself.
Awesome! Just booted up, my man. A thousand fellatios to you!! Please message me your Paypal address so I can buy you a beer or two.
Haven't tried the Cingular ones but the AT&T ones worked just fine. I'm betting it'll be damn near identical, save probably a few radio adjustments or very minor adjustments.
Booted to the main screen so I should be able to set things up. But I'll chime in and report if there are any major issues. Thanks again!!
Hey I am happy your phone boot up man!!
I am still having trouble with the recovery. I try flash the att& the cingular recovery. good thing is no bootloop I see an image showing black phone and a green circle. then I end up with image of a phone with red triangle with a "!" inside. and then the phone reboots.
am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

Have you tried running "fastboot erase cache"?
What other steps have you done as well? The killer for me was the boot.img file that Leedroid created as part of his ROM installation. The AT&T recovery is what I had used. For a moment I thought I might need to try flashing the system.img file like redwreck had to, but I didn't need to.
Perhaps someone could upload that as well, please? If you need to flash that, it's "fastboot flash system system.img" and it'll flash that too. I always do "fastboot reboot" after as well.
I trust that these should work. Hopefully there'll be a full Rogers RUU so we can flash that just to be on the safe side. Best of luck! I'll keep an eye on this thread as well.
Since I posted earlier I've been setting things up and it's working like a damn charm. Tried exhausting every weird and quirky feature I thought might screw up, but I can't find anything that's not working.

Phone shows unlocked but s=off

I had ended up using the all in one HTC One S root utility that was linked in the fourms. After following all the steps that where listed (While following the youtube guide) My phone when on bootloader will show ****Unlocked**** across the top but s=off any ideas on why that is? I havent quite been able to figure it out im just looking for more information so when I get home I can have at it again :/ just find it odd that given the steps and the fact I had done them all to the T im still having this issue. Any help would be great thanks for taking the time.
I assume this might be better fit for Q&A if your a mod i apologize if you could move it that would be great couldnt figure out how to delete the poist :/ "edit/delete" wont remove the post :/ sorry again
Well if you can post a photo of the boot loader screen that would help me in sorting out your issue.

Don't know what you are disappointed about. S-OFF stands for security being off. This may sound bad, but from a developer perspective, it's pretty good. If you have true S-OFF like you claim you do, you can flash ROMs, kernels, radios, etc... in a recovery with no issues at all; regardless of what hboot or custom recovery you have. Unlocked means that you can flash custom recoveries and such using fastboot, which is what you want. To sum it up, S-OFF is good; many devs are trying to get S-OFF, but NONE can figure it out. Just be happy about it.
Having this 'Unlocked' text is what you're going to get if you root/unlock the phone. No way to get around it. If you want to return to complete stock settings and re-lock, your best bet is to be on stock recovery and flash an RUU that corresponds to your network. You may also want to try 'fastboot oem lock'.

Facepalm. You do NOT have S-OFF, What the hell made you think you did. This is normal... Wow. You need to install a custom recovery to flash zips, by the way.
Hey easy on him, he was just mistaken. OP, do you need me to show you how to go back to stock?

Oh sweet jesus you're lucky as hell.
Never ever ever sell your phone, because you got your hands on a developer one or just a phone that slipped through the cracks, because you have full S-OFF.
You should be able to flash ROMs in recovery without going to fastboot to ever flash a kernel, if the ROM is set up for it.
You would do better to change thread title...

S-OFF - What can I do?

So I am a noob to HTC phones. I understand what S-Off is but I am not entirely sure what I could with my phone with it that I can't do now. I am trying to understand whether I should go through the process since there is always the risk of bricking. Thanks!

I did do that. It said that I could flash ROMs, Radios, stop my bootloader from saying unlocked. Most of this things with the exception of the last I can already do. I was just wondering if there is something that I could be missing out from. Thanks!
Contrary to popular belief, s-off actually has very little to do with your phone being rooted. S-OFF stands for Security-Off, which basically allows you to modify any partition on the device, and changes will not be reset upon a reboot. Also, the signature checking of the firmware zips is disabled, allowing users to flash unsigned firmware zips containing the separate images of the partitions.
Very simply put, that's what it is. There is a lot more to it that you guys can probably look up. For a user on an hboot below 1.14 it really doesn't do all that much, but it's very useful for devs and people post-hboot 1.14
I'm not totally sure what it will do for us, but it was easy enough for me to go through with it, took about 5 minutes if you've already got ADB/Fastboot set up.
I heard it could take away that stupid red paragraph when I boot and that was all I needed to hear haha
I feel like I just got a new toy but can't read the instruction manual... can I flash a new radio? do I need to do something special like flash through fastboot?
I know I sound like a broken record but
I'd love to see someone create a dual boot program for our phone.

You got to wait for the new tools to be released. Nothing happens automatically AFAIK.
You can flash ROMs on newer hboot without fastboot

Things will come, just have to give the devs a chance since we just got s-off.
SouL Shadow gave an excellent response to the question here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38169711&postcount=2462
But as already indicated, things will come in the future, it really doesn't gain much at the moment. Especially for those still on pre-1.14 hboot (and can already flash radios, kernels from recovery).
