I have tried loading the stock images using the PD98IMG.zip files that I have found throughout the site, but nothing seems to be working. Please help, or if you can point me to someone that can I would greatly appreciate it. I hate to be a pain, but I don't know what else to do.

YOUR PHONE IS NOT BRICKED. The term bricked means that your phone is a useful as a brick, i.e. if you can get into HBOOT, it's not bricked.
Gotta ask though, why did you not use the Hack Kit as its the only reliable method to root, my advice to you sir is when this gets cleared up READ AND EDUCATE YOURSELF before you really do brick your phone.
If you have a SDcard reader, pop out the SDcard and place one of the PD98IMG stock ROMs on your SDcard. From here you can reboot into HBOOT with the sdcard in your phone and HBOOT should pick up the PD98IMG and flash a working stock ROM. From here, you can root with the Hack Kit...
This will help you, read it and do what the stock ROM option...if you can get into HBOOT
I have tried doing that, it says loading image, then parsing, then goes back to the hboot screen, it doesn't say press volume up to update or anything else as I have read in many other posts. Am I doing something wrong? As far as not using the hack kit, I didn't really stumble on that until after it was to late, sure wish I had found it in the first place. Guess if I could just get it back to factory, I would accept that doing this isn't for me and not mess with it again. I am good at following directions, but nothing I have tried seems to work.

is the file named exactly "PD98IMG.zip"..you may also want to check the hide extension option to be sure its not hiding the .zip because if it is and you renamed it to "PD98IMG.zip" with the hide extension on, the phone will read it as "PD98IMG.zip.zip" and you would get that error.
haha and yeah man, we've all been there...I don't want to discourage you man, rooting is such an awesome experience and the hack kit is a pretty straight forward process, if you do the research and take the time to understand what you're doing, but lets see if we can help you out here first. I had the same issue you're having when I tried to flash a radio (same PD98IMG method you're trying to use) and it turned out to be the hide extension issue.
I had also verified that as well, I went under tools, folder options, view tab, scrolled down to hide extensions for known file types and unchecked... And, everything was correct, just verified to be on the safe side.

hmm, so its named PD98IMG.zip caps and everything? If its not working you m ay have to get a stock RUU and run it through fastboot..
This is why you should educate yourself first. You do not need to unlock the bootloader from the HTC dev site. Now you could flash the the stock ruu from the PC and then use the hack kit. Check the stickies in the Inspire general section for more help.

I understand that I should have been a little more educated first now, but I thought I had everything in order, thats what thinking gets me... I have tried running the stock ruu, but it gives the following error.
ERROR[155]: UNKNOWN ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone.
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
I did notice the Image version the program shows is on the phone is 3.13.0.0, and it is trying to put 2.47.502.7 on the phone... Is this the problem? If so, whats the solution, I am so lost now its not even funny.... I apologize everyone.

Dalton, lock your bootloader again. Boot into fastboot and plug the phone. You will see fastboot usb at the top. Then plug your phone and open cmd session. Once there type fastboot oem relock. Once that is done, try flashing the .exe file in the HTC site (original GB update), making sure that you have HTC Sync installed.
If that fails, then I would try using the HACK Kit to gain S-OFF and root. You will then be able to revert to stock or flash a custom rom...
Had a similar problem when using aahk my own fault and I took care of it. Long winded, so short of it, are you trying to install through
1. hboot or 2. on the computer using HTC rom update?
I ended up trying 2. But ended up using aahk to finish.
HTC update errored out and the recovery portion would not work, just in a boot loop on HTC logo
This was good news as aahk could take over on USB during that HTC green letters white background.
I'd suggest reading the effen manual run the tool to get it up and going, figure out what you want to do. I've used it to return to stock with s off before go back into roms.
So look at those options know what you want and then power on the phone USB connected and during HTC screen enter your number the kit should take over and give you what you asked it.
That should give you a working rom image.

Glad you have it back....yeah you'd better read and make sure what are about to do it and of course what risks are involved before making a move....
Dalton,
I would suggest following glevitan's and willm's assertion of getting s-off and root to use custom roms. Custom roms are WAY better than anything HTC has to offer, and much easier to install, if you have an issue warranty wise, you can always return to stock. Just make sure you know how to flash correctly, search for it and you will find easy instructions, and if memory serves, a youtube video which helped me greatly.

If you are using AT&T branded cell then go to the htc.com site and in the support section of the inspire you will find it. Otherwise, you will find stock roms in the general section of this forum

Sorry if I'm totally off base here but I do believe reading on XDA somewhere that with the HTC One series phones when you unlock the bootloader it locks the phone from being able to flash recoverys.
This is the reason why I have waited to do the bootloader unlock I didnt want to screw myself from ever being able to flash custom roms.
you have to use this unlock method for the bootloader so why would it screw anything else up? It opens up all possibilities, not close them.

Nope. I have flashed CWM recovery at least 4 times on an international One X AFTER unlocking the bootloader. I wish that were it....
I think you may be thinking of firmware, which is a real mess, because unlocking your bootloader can set your CID to "none", and thus, you can't flash different firmware (i.e., an EU firmware on an Asian phone)...not that that would matter for these carrier-branded phones...
Good job and great progress. Unfortunately, none of us AT&T users can join in on the fun.

If that was completely true, then the Tegra 3 model's would not have cwm recovery... yet they do.
We just havent figured out a working method for ours.

i think what Killathehnoob is trying to say is that its only the ROGERS version of the ONE X that when unlocking the BLer HTC has somehow lock the other partitions so that custom recoveries and kernels are not able to be flashed to the phone...which essentially could be the case because all they said they will "unlock" the BLer...BUT they never said they would NOT do anything else in the process. maybe its a possibillity that has been over looked...just THINK TANKING is all

I understand what you mean
I wonder if the fact that its new proprietary qualcomm chip is the reason why its being 'limited'... so we may have to rethink the whole initialization process.
we cant even get to the point that the logcat is able to start logging. So we're flying blind.
We've extended the time between loading to the soft reboot after the flash... but that doesnt tell us much.

Interesting. I think the lack is fastboot boot is what they are referring to. This would prevent custom kernel development on an s-off device, but should still allow flashing of insecure stock boot images, as with the int. HOX, althoug i read it again, anf maybe they are talking about more than that. I am not sure that the article is saying that there is something different with the Rogers version vs other versions, but it seems like there may be, and obviously with the Att version. I think I will spend a day just reading, trying to pick other devs' brains, and start fresh...thanks for the input.

OK, that's what I was hoping to do. I noticed in the JB instructions that it said I must be a stock RUU not a custom ROM or something to that effect. I am on CWM 5.Something so a rom flash is NP. Any recommended ROMs? I.e One that worked for you? I tried the wire trick about 100 times over the course of an hour or so(on cm9.1), but then reread the bit shout the rom again.

yeah, Ive been running root since my MT3G way back when...couldnt stand how laggy that thing was with all the bloat... wasnt even that great with CM6 but still night and day better than stock (=hooked on rooting). then upgraded to the MT4g and now this thing... was fairly concerned about all the extra hoops but wouldve just chosen another platform had I borked it...glad I didnt, saved me some funds!
On a related note, what radios are you guys running? Are there any issues between the GB radios and ICS ones? Im assuming so, but with the custom ROMs/kernels anything should be able to be overcome I'm hoping... I know I def. had issues on CM7 -> CM9 on the reg. 4G when swapping radios...
I don't generally swap my radios around since there are only two that I'm aware of. But I DID find that the new one (when I replaced my phone) seemed to lock a signal a bit quicker but for me the original radio gets MUCH better phone reception. Depends on your phone I suppose.
(you'll be glad you went with this phone though. basically a Sensation with a keyboard)

cool, I just flashed the older one today... been having really crappy recption on campus lately (esp. since switching from the MT4G) better reception is what I'd rather have... ill give this one a week or so and see if I think its any better... Run the RUU from the bootloader screen. Make sure the RUU is for YOUR phone

Seeing as though you have relocked the bootloader you can either a. unlock the phone again so you can install a custom rom or b. run a ruu to get it back to stock.
Yeah because the problem is i have no OS to boot into. It just goes into recovery mode. Can you point me in the direction on how I can unlock the bootloader again?

Download your stock RUU, and run from that white menu that says RE-LOCKED at the top. That's your bootloader
Ok, when you mean run from that white menu that says RELOCKED, how can I run it from that menu if I cant get into anything from this menu? Do you mean just run the RUU program from my computer and have my phone connected to the PC? I used to be able to go into that TWRP screen when i was in bootloader but now I can't.

Believe me, the fact your screen is on is a sign you are not bricked. Run the RUU (Make sure it's one that is easily rootable, like the 1.85 for ATT), and go through the process of bootloader and unlock and rooting. Hope this helped
I am glad to hear that. It's almost done downloading, about 4 minutes left. I really want to thank you for helping me out here. I am such a screw up with this stuff. Sigh. anyways, I'll let you know what happens here shortly. Thank you so much once again. Really..
Honestly man once you get back to stock, don't worry about unlocking and rooting it. You have no business rooting your phone and flashing roms if you can accidentally delete your os, backup file, and the recovery partition. Not trying to be rude, but think about it, you could of destroyed your phone with one more bad flash
It's working! It's updating and everything. Phew! No offense taken, I hear ya and agree. Just being a noob at all this can put me into a lot of trouble. I have learned a lot of stuff though lol. Anyways, thank you everyone for helping me! I should be good from here
Glad to hear its working
Cheers man, good to hear everything is fixed.
If you need anything else, contact me. There are a bunch of ways to.
As for rooting again? Just read up and you'll be set.

Hate to bump heads with ya dude but this isn't the way to be, I frown upon threads like this as well but I encourage others to root no matter who they are. Granted they do need to take the time to research what they are doing and how to get themselves out of a hole like this but someone has to help them learn
This is a community working towards a common goal, you never know maybe this dude will make his way towards development somewhere in the future. Or more likely since others helped him in his time in need he will turn around and try to do the same for someone else
Just my two cents

A simple "Be more careful next time because of ..." would have been just fine.

My apologies. We had been PMing for over an hour before this thread trying to get his phone back. I came off a little rude on that last post but he knows how hard I was trying to help him and that he can always come here for answers. Most forum guys would tell him to "search it"
please
how did you fix your phone i almost have same problem
He didn't delete ROM, recovery or anything. He relocked his bootloader. It just won't let you reboot unless you relock with a stock recovery flashed.

Could u guys stop by my thread and help me out?
I kinda have the same problem, and RUU tells me phone is off, error 170.
Thanks
Hi!
I've been readin and searching for quite some time now and can't seem to find an answer for my question.
Here's the deal, I have an Inspire 4G on which I want to install the BLACKOUT 4.0 with SENSE 3.6 rom, my phone is S-On and I can't do S-Off because of broken volume buttons, I already managed to install 4EXT Touch recovery, so I can flash de rom's zip file, but, since I have S-on, I know I need to flash the boot.img file via fastboot, I've put the phone into fastboot via adb command, but the thing is I don't see any boot.img file inside the rom's zip, I found some boot.img inside the Kernels folder, but there's no "Inspire" folder in there.
I hope somebody can help me with, I only need to know where to find the BLACKOUT'S boot.img for my inspire 4G, or can I use any other boot.img inside the Kernels folder?
Please help.
Thank you.
Keep it up!!!...

Hello again, any luck finding it?, maybe I should just install another sense rom, but as long as I've seen this is one of the best and everything I use is working flawlessly, but guess I'll have to sacrifice some features in order to get the HTC SENSE back. :crying:
Anyways, thank you for your help.

Sry! Just forgot it. There are 6 folders conatining kernels (boot.img) One folder is named as HTC's "codename" for your device. Thats the right boot.img. The rom is compatible do different devices, thats why it contains 6 different kernel images

Yes I know that, but there are only 6 folders named: Ace, Glacier, Incs, Saga, Vision and Vivo, there's no Inspire folder, or should I use the Incs one?, I'm sorry, that's why I'm so confused, the thing is, I can't post this matter directly to main thread for this rom, cause I still have no permit to do so.
Well, thank you for all of your help.

Ok, I'm more confused now, I thought that "HTC Ace" was actually the HTC Desire HD not Inspire 4G, or am I wrong? I'm sorry, I just don't want to brick my pone.

Ok, so, you're basically telling me to flash the kernel for the Desire to my Inspire, I know they're almost the same, but I've read that some roms are not compatible with Inspire unless there's a patch for it or something, I'll try it, I'm still not feeling so sure about this but I'll try it, I'll post back when I'm done.
If I can ever post back, lol...

You CAN'T really brick tzhe device as its S-ON. Worst case was that you had to flash the stock firmware / anothr rom again. The kernel will not affect your recovery. If you downloaded the rom for a "Inspire 4g" it WILL be compatible lol

I'm having a hard time trying to get into bootloader/fastboot mode, and once in bootloader I can't select anything, so I just don't want to start and then find out I can't continue because I don't have no volume buttons, I have never done it before, but I remember when I rooted my inspire I had to select something, and in that case, the volume buttons were needed yes or yes, so I just don't want to start and then having to revert everything back to stock or bricking the phone, and by bricking I mean, that it might keep just rebooting and since I don't have volume buttons I won't then be able to get it out of the loop cicle.
Or you don't really need to volume buttons in order to S-Off?

For using Firewater S-OFF or Rumrunner S-OFF you don't need the volume buttons. IDK if it supports your device. Let me check compatiblity
You can try RumRunner. If its not compatible you won't face any changes on your device
