Have been looking for a while to find an (affordable) micro USB cable which is a lot longer than the stock cable. When charging the phone right now I must contort myself in strange positions because of the rather short length of the supplied cable.
So I'm looking for a longer (>1.5m) cable but that one must also still charge with the same rate as the stock cable: 1900mA...
After reading some reviews on Amazon for example it seems that those cables are rather hard to find. They all lower the amount of charging current.
So the question is: does anybody know of such a cable (and has tried it himself with Galaxy Charging Current for example so it charges with 1900mA for sure  ).
Thanks in advance :good:

Mah is not a charging rate. Its known as a discharge rate or capacity of the battery/cells. You might have better luck searching for it as 1900 ma (milliamps) or 1.9A (amps). I use lithium batteries in all my rc trucks and the radios and had to do a bit of studying about them, improper charging or discharging can lead to degradation of the cells or catastrophic failure (explosion).
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

Ordered two different cables from Amazon.de. Will update this thread when they arrive with the charging currents :good:
I just use a USB extension I think they are A to B, doesn't seam to effect charging or anything else untoward.
Edit look at this
3 meters long and rated for 2A

It's not rated for 2A at all
Those (cheap) cables rarely (or even better: never) offer the same loading charge. Especially at that length.
These work: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AR4M04S/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Using one on both my HP Touchpad that has a Charging Current app and it says 2A and my S4 is also using one. It also claims 1900mA. They are good cables for me.

I have the exact same problem as you, I have tried 10 different micro USB cables and only the white cable from the S4 charger chargers to 1900 or 1.9amps.
I ordered three of these below, as other forums recommended them, they should arrive today or tomorrow, if you can wait, I will test the output on them and report back.

Already some from Amazon.de on the way and ordering from US-based sites is often quite difficult for us Europeans. However, I would of course like to know your result, so please :good:
Funny, I usually strive to find smaller (10-30cm) cables.
What I need someone to explain to me is how do you know the cable isn't charging at max intensity. Does it not charge at all, or you measure the current, or what?

Shorter cables are handy for their own purposes as well, like in a car or something. However, when I'm watching tv and the phone is being charged the supplied cable, for me, is much too short. Very awkward to play with the phone when the cable is short, hence I wanted a longer cable.
Longer cables alas usually lower the charging current so while it surely does charge the phone it takes much, much longer to do so

Yea that isn't worth it, unless you order 10 and maybe sell them on ebay locally yourself to recoup the shipping cost.
I bought 3 and the company is less than 50 miles form where I live, so the shipping was only $2.50.

Hi, did you get the cables? Looking at the photos on Monoprice they look fantastic.
I am honestly tired of the crappy cables, even the S4 came in with a cable that I can't fold.
Need something like the Apple USB cable...

Type A to C, you can get a pretty cheap and good looking 4 pack of the ORZLY ones, I posted some pics of them a couple of weeks ago.

With all these high power requirements I think we need to be careful what we buy. We know certain parts of the world will cut corners to make a quick buck at the expense of frying our hardware.
I'll stay with the cables that come in the box for now, until we have more choices, though I'm hurting for a cable for the car.

Please post if you find anything good for the car. Either a new type C charger and type C at both ends cable or a type C to type A cable that works well and doesn't fry anything. I have a Scosche 2.4A type A charger in the car which I think should be good enough provided I can find a good cable.

Thanks! Does USB 2.0 really matter in this case if all I'm using it for is charging? I doubt these car chargers have any smarts in them to negotiate anything on the data pins, but maybe I'm wrong. I used charge only cables (from PortaPow) in the past with great success and from what I understand they only have 2 wires inside for the power pins.

Yes. As I understand it: The phone checks the cable and sees the 56kΩ pullup (resistor) built in the wire, so it uses the USB BC2.1 protocol over the Type-C USB 2.0 pins/wires to negotiate for the 2.4A charging. I pretty sure that's the process anyway.
To simplify it: The phone checks the cable for what kind of cable it is. It sees the resistor saying it's a legacy usb cable. It then negotiates w/ the charger using legacy usb charging specs to get the appropriate current.
I emailed PortaPow and they said they would have their *charge only* cables in 4-6 weeks. Both C to C and A to C. I pointed them to the Google engineer's reviews to make sure their cables are compliant and also asked them to put a slim USB C connector on them so that it fits through cases. LOL. We'll see what they come up with.

Thanks! Makes sense. I just hope it's enough to still add some charge to the battery while the phone is on running GPS/Waze and streaming music via Bluetooth. I faced a problem with my old N5 where the battery was going down while plugged in in the car, turns out the cable I was using (and thought to be of high quality OEM) could only deliver 600mA and the phone was using a bit over 800mA.
If an A to C cable can at least maintain the phone charge with the screen on, I'm OK for now until better solutions come along.

I find there to be no use with needing the stock charger over the 15w one from Google. Some may argue, well the type c cable is attached to the wall adapter. Sure, but what are you going to plug your phone into that has another type c port? I get your macbook has a type c port but it isnt as common as the type a usb port.

well i don't know how you can claim the stock charger is compact (it's easily 2x longer than the stock nexus 6 charger), but i do like that the plug is removable. the replacement they're selling on the google store has a hard-wired cable. it works and is good, but i don't care for the hard wired part
I could safely bet that Huawei made a deal with Google that they wont sell the stock charger so that Google can make more accessory sales.
You can always buy the dual port charger from Google (https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_dual_port_charger). Yes its more expensive, but comes with an extra long cable, and the way USB C is going you'll have more USB C devices in the future for that extra port to be useful.

I would buy the 2 port if not for the reports that only one of the ports supports rapid charging. I don't want to have to constantly make sure I have the "right" cable (will be using one for macbook and 1 for phone.)

Yeah, well its is only a 22.5Wmax charger so having only one port supporting rapid charge makes sense.
If you need to identify cables that are identical you can always just put some colored tape around the ends or a sticker.
As you have a Macbook, you can probably find better USB C solutions for your needs; the Google Store page does say that "Wattage is optimized for smaller devices, like phones and tablets. Larger devices, such as laptops, will take longer to charge."
Not available unfortunately. Google charger is basically your only 15w charging solution right now. If you can wait a month I bet we'll see that change.

I got one yesterday will test it today and let you know. My understanding was that either port could rapid charge, but when you have two devices only one will rapid charge but the charger would rapid charge the device with the least amount of battery.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
It seems, based on reviews here, that only one port will actually rapid charge regardless of your devices charge or which device was plugged in first. That might not be so bad (and expected given the rated wattage) but the charger isn't labeled to tell you which port is the rapid charge one and isn't sold with an explanation describing the situation.

I just tested this and you are absolutely right, the second port only charges whereas the first port rapidly charges. Now wondering if I should return it and save some cash and get the single port charger. Although it still seems like a handy device to have when wall outlets are limited.

For me, It's not really about unplugging the cable to use for something else. Cables go bad. If the cable goes bad, the whole charger is shot. That's a bit of a waste to me. Also, you can't buy different length cables for the charger either.

Considering that the Google Dual Port Charger does not support 3A on both ports and it is likely the 6P and 5X might be the only 5V/3A devices you might every see, it would have made much more sense for the this charger to have 1-3A Type C port and 1-2.4A Type A port!

That would make much more sense.
The weird thing is that it leaves 7.5W if you're fast charging your nexus, but as USB-C which is not widespread, so...
My theory, I think the dual port charger is future proofing for wearables with USB C charging ports. Most Qi android wear docks run at 5v/.55a or so, which is well within the 7.5W possible. Looking at it that way, its a phone + wearable dualport charger.
It also aligns perfectly with the real (not google) USB C standard of 5v/1.5a.
FYI,
I ran across this charger today on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Type-C-Charger-CHOE-Charger-Adapter-Included/dp/B017I7EX46
So far, it doesn't have any reviews (all the reviews are for the Type A charger), but it's also saying that the estimated delivery date is Nov 25 - Dec 8. So, I guess it's shipping directly from China. I ordered one anyway. Worst case is that I'm out $17.
Not only does the one port work for 3A (the one closest to the white Google face logo), the charger must be in the wall before connecting to phone. If not, it will max out at 1.5A.
With the stock charger, it doesn't matter.
Little confused on what I need for my new phone coming Friday. Obviously, I have a host of Micro USB cables that I'd like to be able to use with my new phone. I assume there must be some adapter that is recommended.
I also need a cable to run from an Anker charger to my new phone.
Thanks!
Confused or not you really should spend some time reading through the other threads that are already here.
The situation has started to clear up quite a bit but all the info is already here.
I started to read through one of the threads but I just got more confused. Lots of talk about what wouldn't work and the one plus one cables being bad.
I'd be happy to research more on my own, if you could point me in the direction of a quality thread or post.
Thanks
Essentially, some companies are producing USB Type-A to USB Type-C cables that don't meet the standards set out by the USB Consortium (made up of Google, Apple, and many other tech companies). These cables that don't meet the specification could allow a device (such as your phone) to try to pull too much current from a charger, USB port, or USB hub and thus damage them. Worst case scenario, they cause a charger to overheat and start a fire!
SO, your best bet is to buy USB Type-A to USB Type-C cables directly from Google or any of the cables Benson Leung (a Google engineer) has reviewed highly. It doesn't matter if they're USB 2.0, 3.0, or 3.1 as the Nexus 6P only supports the slower USB 2.0 speeds and it's all compatible!
Are there any certified adapters or recommendations on something that converts a Micro USB end to a Type-C end? I'd prefer to just extend the cables I already have rather than replace them.
I sadly have not seen a verified adapter yet. You could take a chance on buying some that haven't been disqualified and test them with this app, and return them if they fail. Otherwise, some people are keeping track of verified accessories on this spreadsheet and someone might find good adapters.

I looked through his profile and all of the reviews he's done and none of the adapters have met specifications. You might be better off going with cables instead of adapters.
Thanks you were both very helpful!
All this info above is true. But just an FYI I've had my phone for about a month and only used the micro USB to c adapters (other than a couple times to test with the googled one ) since my case I got had the port too small for the Google charger to fit through and I've never had any issues. The charger or phone doesn't get any hotter or warmer. The phone does charge slower than the Google charger, but that's because the power adapters I'm using are about 1500mah bricks.
Just wanted to chime in that I was not able to get any of my microusb OTG cables working using an adapter. (2 different microusb F to usb-C M adapters purchased through Aliexpress) Perhaps I was just unlucky, though.
They seem to work for connecting to a computer. I also see videos from XDA's youtube channel where they use one of those adapters for connecting a 6p to a computer.
Strangely, one of the adapters shows that it's compliant through the aforementioned app!
The cables/adapters that are out of specification can work fine; but it all depends on how your devices, chargers, and hubs handle the incorrect cable. While you might get lucky and it'll work fine, you might also get unlucky!
Why take a chance? And why support companies that don't follow the rules?

This.
It also baffles me why people are so willing to shell out $500+ for a new phone, but scream bloody murder when having to pay a little more for compliant cables / adapters / chargers.

While I went for the certified cables, most complain because we're spending 10+ on a cable we're used to buying for 4 or 5 bucks... For the longer cord.

Yes you have a valid point except that there are no certified adapters yet as far as I know. Which means for someone like me it's not about money, but it's about being able to use micro USB still since practically every other devices I have uses that still. Ie tablet, controllers, remotes.

So it about not wanting to carry 1 extra cable? I don't see that being a big deal at all.

We all have different scenarios. I like to have at minimum a charger in car, bedroom, living room, computer desk, bathroom with shower, work, kitchen and battery pack in backpack. I'm not carrying around an extra cable for each place.

I know where you are coming from, that's one of the reasons why I sold all of my mirco USB phones/tablets (my Nexus 6 and Shield Tablet LTE). I have 1 good USB-A to USB-C cable 2 USB C-C wall chargers, and a USB C battery pack along with 4 C-C cables.
Sill looking for good replacement USB C wall chargers. Anybody got a lock on some good quality ones?

I have a feeling that the Google chargers will be the best quality ones you can get. I have both of the Google chargers - the single port and dual port - and have had great results with both.
I saw a few type c chargers from chotech on amazon.com the other day. No clue if they are any good though.

Little confused on what I need for my new phone coming Friday. Obviously, I have a host of Micro USB cables that I'd like to be able to use with my new phone. I assume there must be some adapter that is recommended.
I also need a cable to run from an Anker charger to my new phone.
Thanks!

Please refer to these 2 OP's for certified Type-C and Type-A to Type-C cables and discussion:

Hey guys,
I was wondering if you guys saw the power bank from CHOETECH.
Since the USB charger from them seems to be fine, what do you guys think about this power bank?
Anyone tried it yet?
It made me curious since it has a USB type C port.
I was considering it. The one from Anker is (for me) way to big.
~10k mAH is just right for surviving a long intensive weekend.

Would be nice to hear your take on this one...
I was supposed to bring this in, but the Type C port is only for input or for charging the powerbank only, not for charging the phone.

Hmm.. is it?
I expected it to also be usable to charge the phone.
Or is just the blue usb port capable of pushing 3A out?

Supposedly this is available around end of Dec. Will let you know after I purchase a sample unit from them.
I purchased a sample unit so I'll let you guys know. By the way any device with type C can charge any other device with type c. This is a product of the new technology. This will be able to charge via type c.

how do you buy a sample unit?
I noticed that on amazon as well. CHOETECH was going to send me one to review, but they wanted me to pay them a "$5 amazon fee" which I though it was ridiculous. If a company wants to send someone a product to review for. 'free' then they shouldn't try to charge them a small fee regardless of the items cost. I'm staying far away from their products because of this odd/shady practice. I'm glad they emailed me because I have it saved if anyone wants to see what they said.

other companies do that too, Amazon apparently has a new policy on discounting products to $0 and still being a verified purchase. I haven't looked into it, but like I said I've had other companies do it and they all have a similar story. I don't mind paying $5 for a power bank or $1 for a cable, it's not like it's something I'm going to review then throw in a drawer and never use again.

[strikethrough]this is not true. type c by its nature can be used for input and output and the product listing lists all the type c devices it's compatible with (which is really just a list of type c devices on the market right now)[/strikethrough]
edit: I reached out to their pr person who is telling me it is in fact for charging only. I've got one coming so I guess we'll see soon enough.

Yes USB C is bidirectional... but the description doesn't state anything about output. Their pictures are not visible to show to control the direction of the USB C interface. And with the way the pictures are labeled and described as only as an input. USB C is bidirectional but you need access to control the flow of the charging.

I wasn't sure if it was some shady back door kind of deal or if it was a legitimate thing Amazon forces them to do. I appreciate the clarification on that because choetech didn't provide me with a good explanation.

a little common sense would tell you that it wouldn't make any sense for them to make a product that only charged with a charger very few people had, and then not charge the devices that only those people have

of course, it doesn't make sense. I agree with you on that part. But with the current product images and description... it leaves you wondering why?
They also reached out to me about reviewing this product but frankly I don't have the time to do a proper review.

USB C is bidirectional...it only has USB C input, but a Quick Charge 2.0 output.
That's to say, it can quick charge your old Nexus 6 or Sumsung S6... if you want to charge your Nexus 6P, you need to use a USB-A to USB-C cable for output...but of course, the charge speed with AC cable would reach 2.4A maximum.
The description says it comes with a USB-A to Type C charging cable, so it's still a good option because it supports Quick Charge 2.0 devices like Nexus 6 and can charge your Nexus 6P with the AC cable.

Yea I should get one when they have it in stock for review.... Still odd why a USB C input only lol....
I have one coming to review so I'll post it up when it arrives. It's disappointing that the type C is only a input port. I don't know why choetech wouldn't make it a two way port like my Ravpower has. C-C charging is the future
