Since I updated my Note 5 to Marshmallow, I can't get custom tones to work for me. I go into to contacts add a custom tone, save...Then when I get a text from one of the people that I have set to have a custom tone, I only get the default notification...Anyone else run into this issue? If so, any solutions?
Thanks
Are you using the messages app or messages +?

If I'm not mistaken, chomp, go sms, handcent, etc has their own settings for notifications and do not use what you set in contacts.

Thanks (so much)...that was the answer...:good:
Similar issue, different phone. Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, Galaxy A3. I see lack of option to set custom sound for S Planner.
I want one general notification sound, different one for messages, different for email and different for s planner events.
I set custom for email and messages in Inbox and messages own settings, respectively, have general notifications and calls set up via Settings->Sounds&Notifcations, but see lack of option to set custom sound for S Planner.
If you guys have an idea how to make that happen without a 3rd party app in background, I gladly hear/read it.

Now that Google has opened the flood gates to the US is anybody working on a widget that will display the number of new voicemails? Or is there one available somewhere I'm just not aware of?

The stock apk displays the number in the notifications bar, but that's not a bad idea.

Yeah there are 2 apps for gmail, SMS unread and gmail unread or something like that. I use SMS unread because it does text, missed call, as well as gmail.
I was wondering if anyone is aware of an application that will wake the phone (turn screen on) and display a pop with the received SMS/Text Msg.
Sort of similar to iPhone, whenever someone gets a message the screen turns on and it displays the message in a small pop up.
Basically I want someone only for when the screen is off.

go into Additional Settings in the app and there is an option to do so

+1 for SMS Popup. Has lots of config options and you can send replies direct from the popup.
Handcent & ChompSMS (and GoSMS I think) all have this option, but I find the default app to do all I need without adding bloat & advertisements in some cases.

+2 for SMS PopUp! Much better looking popup than Handcent, and Chomp's iPhone chat bubbles are built into the TouchWiz SMS app (unfortunately, since they look gahd-awful). But yeah, SMS Popup for the win.

+3 for SMS Popup since I had no need to replace the entire messaging app completely like with Handcent or Chomp.
I enjoy Handcent for quite some time now, but I think I'll try out the apps you recommend here.
Hi,
Is it possible to have a custom tone for mail? I have got a tone working for texts but cannot figure any way to get custom message for emails........
Yes. Get the app called Zedge in the market. You can assign email, notification, ringtones...ect. They have alot of tones to download also.

With Zedge you can only assign as a notification sound, not just for mail. it plays for all things like low battery etc as well
Open the app in question and go into its settings, should be there

If you open Mail and go to settings/notification settings it only lets you turn notification on or off not asign a tone. I want something like "you have mail"
I have some on the phone but cannot find a way to asign it just for mail...
This is the stock mail app?

Yes.
New to Android, just changed from Windows........
Just set up the app and you're right - I assume it uses the stock notification sound as set in the sound settings. Bit of an oversight from HTC, there

Yes that is the only one I can get to work. If I set "you have mail" as the
stock tone it plays the same for ll notifications. I have set one OK for Texts..
I just use Gmail and you can set it for that so assumed it'd be the same for the other apps
When on your homescreen, press the personalize button. Scroll down, press 'notification sound' and choose email.

On your SD card put it in Media/Audio/Notifications it should then show in the list
I have a Verizon GS3 - I used to use GO SMS for well SMS. Now I like the stock messaging app but the only thing I am missing is the different notification sounds for different contacts. While I'm driving I tend to ignore the texts unless it's from my wife who has a specific tone I used for SMS. Is there something out there that JUST does this? MEaning I don't want to install Go SMS and I don't want SMS messages popping up
any clues?
You can use GoSMS and disable the pop ups.

I prefer the stock messaging app. Isn't there something that just does per contact sound

I am in the same boat and would love this feature. I came over from an iPhone (Sorry Apple your too slow at rolling out a LTE device) and you could assign contacts their own SMS tones. Android needs this too. For now once they fix Light Flow I think that will be my second best option. I can at least assign a LED light color to a few things but it's not working currently on the VZ GS3 version.

I use "Ringo" from the market. Works great, and easy to use.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.electricpocket.ringo
P.S. If you use this app, don't forget to set the default notification sound in the SMS app to "silent". Ringo will do the rest.

I believe you need the stock messaging app for Handcent to work. Go into settings for the stock messaging app and uncheck notifications to prevent double notifications.
