For custom rom users, particular those using NuSenSeVen, is there a way to get the OTA on 3/7 or is it better to just wait for enterprising young developers to debloat and release a rooted rom?

Not sure about either but you're probably better off using Google Voice for voicemail anyway. It's free, accessible on any device, and does text translations.

I've always wanted to try, but what if my Google Voice number is different than my regular phone number? I have them separate. Also, I wouldn't necessarily want to fully port my verizon number to google voice. Am I thinking too much into it?

That's what I'm doing. It's been a while, but essentially what you do is forward unanswered calls to Google Voice which takes care of the voicemail part. You can get voicemail on your phone through Hangouts or on any browser in Gmail or Google Voice. You might want to check out this link - https://support.google.com/voice/answer/165656?hl=en
Sorry for off topic :good:
Is it possible that MM will allow those of us still s-on and unrooted to root and s-off without sunshine? I was dropped from asurion nearly a year ago, so, if I'm going to buy sunshine, I'm going to wait till I get a replacement device. Hoping that I'll be able to root for free with MM though!

Ah yes, the pre-update.
I can't wait. When Marshmallow comes out and a stock rooted RUU is released, I am going to do a factory reset and wipe within stock recovery as well. This will clean up everything, fresh NV partition as well as new radios.
Can't go wrong!!

Awwwwww man! Time to bust out Titanium Backup... or, wait... isn't that NOT a good idea with MM? What's the best mechanism going to be to back up my Lollipop system? I have a ton of apps that won't restore properly from the cloud, gotta manually back up.

I've flashed between mm builds a few times and I always have the play store download and install my user apps automatically as part of the first time initialization then I use tibu to restore their data. I restore very little system app data (just android id & sms/mms usually) I've never had a problem.

You wouldn't...most custom ROM's don't want Verizon OTA updates. This is basically a re-release of the updated radios (402w_1 and 605.7) so if you've already updated your radios that's basically what you'd be getting from VZW. The question is did they actually do anything to the radios or did they just hold them while they got their LTE/eHRPD issues sorted out (I tend to lean on the latter.)
If you wanna keep root, I wouldn't recommend updating. Let the devs release it.

The leak (if we're talking about jcase's leak) included the ROM where the OTA update doesn't (at least it doesn't appear to at 35 MB.) It does appear to be larger than just the leaked radios themselves (25.37 MB) but they updated a few other things so that probably accounts for the additional 10 MB.
We really aren't going to know anything until the devs tackle the update.zip.
I was recommended by jcase that you either can't or should not apply this update if rooted. Don't quote me though. I can't remember exactly what he said.

Thats completely true.
Do you need root to access the cache folder? Where is it exactly. Can't find it while connected to my computer by USB, or by ES File Explorer.
Could this also incorporate removal of free wifi hotspots? Isn't that ending soon? When I bought my Thunderbolt the rep told me it'd be removed via a software update in May.

Pretty sure that's only for new customers. Existing customers were grandfathered into the free wifi. I might be wrong though. I remember the rep told me something about it too when I got my TB in the mid of April.

Your rep was wrong. Once they figure out how much to charge, the free hotspot will be no more.
Saw on android police a couple of phones that were rooted attempted the update and it didn't go so well. One phone said update failed, another screwed their phone up. I'll wait.
When your rooted, your not supposed to update with OTA's. Wait for the devs to upload it...
OTA's are for squares.

lol i cant wait im downloading it now and will add root / busybox to it my self
this shouldn't remove the free hotspot verizon will not have to push a update to remove it they can turn it off on the back end just how the turn it on and off if you call them and add the tethering plan

I am not rooted!! As stock as they come
Verify your build number
Setting -> About Phone -> Software Information and look at build number. Let us know what that is.
Also (not saying your dumb or didn't know to do this, but you didn't specify if you have tried or not) try a force check.
Settings -> Software Update -> Check new
My build number is 1.13.605.7
I have called verizon 4 times, and htc ones and everyone just keeps tellimg me thats is coming and just to wait. Come on....21 days
I have also tried all the tricks, battery pull, setting phone on 1x and even dailing that *#*#2..... number thing. The only thing is refuse to do is a factory reset only because i have read in other forums that people called htc and they had them do a factory reset only do have no result.

To be 100% honest, I never had issues with the stock radios at all (3G only area.) So with no reboots, I wanted to stick with what worked, despite the 'fix' that rolled out, then the fix for the fix (this OTA.)
I'll give it a shot.

After my update the baseband version is I535VRLG7.
I used Mobile Odin pro to PRE-ROOT the OTA before flashing it.... Successfully I should add.
I don't have the OTA Handy for you though, but if you do a little searching around this forum I'm sure someone has it here for downloading.

You guys can .... SAFELY... check your device to see if you're vulnerable to the hack on this site.
http://www.androiddoes.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-ussd-hack-test/
Read up on the page.. it says something about if Your Dialer screen coming up and your IMEI is being displayed on it then you have the Vulnerability.. if nothing happens.. or if your dialer comes up with nothing being displayed then you're probably safe.

hey!Im currently using this phone on a gsm carrier. .anyway i can update the phone directly by putting it in CDMA mode or something?Or do i need to wait for a RUU to flash? Thanks!
Has anyone been able to get the ota update from verizon ?
I went back to completely stock 4.4.4 rom with no system roms removed, stock 4.4.4 recovery and I flashed back to 4.4.4 firmware and the verizon ota updates keeps coming up that I have the latest software.
I know its out because verizon itself even shows it on the net going over the update in detail. They even show you can also get the update through the htc sync software by plugging your m8 in to yuour computer usb port and downloading the update. Which the htc sync software keeps showing no update either.
It would show a repair software option though which I tried that knowing I would still have s-off even if they did relock my bootloader because I could change my cid and use htc dev to unlock that if I needed to.
Anyone have any luck going back to stock and taking the LP ota from verizon ?

Probably. HTC's update page still says that it's in the "3 - Certification stage of the Android Lollipop Release."
Although Mo Versi did say to expect it the first week of March. So must be close.
I just ordered an m8 from Verizon and I really hope it didn't come with lollipop.

Pretty sure one site saw that the lollipop documentation was up and just assumed the ota was released and then all the other sites just copy and pasted it and now its a runaway train. And it being approved is not the same as the update being pushed out. Pretty sure we got played as far as getting it today.

Pretty sure it's still 5.0. I don't think the S5 will be getting any more updates, it's at the end of its software cycle since 5.0, this update was only released for the stagefright fix.

No. Verizon's own custom OE1 is the reason that it's not rootable. Once you have the OE1 Kernel or higher, you cannot root unless they find another exploit. I doubt they will considering it's an older phone that's already being phased out in terms of support.

Take it back. You have a "new" phone that basically has no support for it anymore. If you have something to use currently other than the S5, I'd consider waiting till the new Google Nexus 5 or 6 2015 edition coming out this year. That should have root and an unlocked bootloader (Google wouldn't stand for Verizon locking down their phone).

Which brings me to my next question...
As of today, which Verizon Phones can be rooted still?

You would have to find a phone you like, go to that forum, and check. I believe any phone with an unlocked bootloader can always be rooted? And I'm pretty sure the Google nexus 5/6 (the old ones) will always be rootable.
I'm jumping ship from Samsung (I wanted to move to the Note at one point, but Samsung screwed up big time with their phones trying to make it like an iPhone, and with Samsung/Verizon in bed with locking up root/bootloader).

What about the HTC One M8 and M9. Are they rootable? I just want to be able to customize more than my wallpaper and font.. I want themes and color schemes and message skins that aren't apps because that drains my battery.

There's a search bar at the top of XDA where you can enter a device. It also allows you to specify which carrier as well. This is from the M9 forum. Says you need a JAVA card which is expensive, but it unlocks the phone/allows root. You can also donate (usually $20-60) users to do it for you:

I have no idea about the M8, seems to be the same, have to have S-OFF or whatever the heck that means. Do research yourself if you want the phone.
I don't think I saw anyone ask this yet...
If I'm currently rooted with OE1, can i take this update and stay rooted? or will i loose root and not be able to get root again?
thanks

Follow the instructions in muniz_ri's thread. He hasn't released the deodexed version though. You should never take ota when rooted, and you should actually have it disabled as soon as you root. One user reported that they ota updated without losing root, but I'd never recommend it.
There is no benefit in disabling it. You have to authorize any update, so it cannot overwrite it on its own. The only reason to disable it is the popup after an update comes out which can be stopped by deleting the update.zip then having the install fail.
Two or three updates ago, I lost the ability to rotate my screen unless an app forces it to rotate, now with this update my phone no longer reads sd cards, and in fact boot loops if there is one inserted. I've done a lot of searching, both when the initial problem manifested, and now with the new problem, but haven't seen anyone with a fix. Any suggestions?
