I'm developer of GMD SPen Control - application that allows to create custom SPen gestures:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34085846
I developed it on Note 1, but I expect it to work on Note 10.1 too. Please try:
1) does it work?
2) Please do calibration in 'Development' tab and email me calibration values from Help->Email Developer->Report bug
Root required.
Thank you.
Yes it does work! Awesome! You're one developer whoreally shows people the amazing possibilities of android phone

Love the app, you really have brought the s-pen to life!! But I notice I cannot install apk's with it running, the dialog shows, the install button is not disabled, but I cannot click it. If I disable the app I can install just fine.

I would like to see actions with just a press of the s-pen button. For example, I would like to be able to change pen colors while writing by simply pressing the s-pen button rather than having to open the pen menu.

On my Note 10.1 (JB 4.1.1, German stock rom, rooted), there is a strange bug which I could track down to SPen Control after three factory resets.
I noticed suddenly, that it was no longer possible to install .apk from outside the Play Store. The effect is/was, that when trying to install an apk from system level, the message about the already existing apk pops up (if existing) and afterwards the window showing the permission requests of the app.
There, as long as SPen Control is active, the "install" button does not accept input. The "cancel" button instead works as well as the arrows inside that window to open/close detailed views of the requested permissions.
As soon as SPen Control is terminated (stop service and exit), the button works again.
So, this is a workaround (before manually installing an app, exit SPen Control), but nevertheless, that should be fixed.

This was fixed. Please update the application.
1.1.1:
- Fixed: Samsung screenshot gesture working when disabled.
- Fixed: Install button would not work when installing from file system.
Fix was successful, my problem is solved. Thanks for an excellent implementation and the quick support.
awesome app!
But i wonder... would it be possible to Start the Service when you unplug the pen and stop the Service when you plug the pen back?

_If_ this is implemented, please make it optional. I have a second external pen (with clip and eraser) which I use and the internal one remains in place.
That's why I do not use the "power saver" feature to enable the digitizer only in case of a removed pen.

I'm investigating it and if possible I will add option for it. This only make sense if I can start application with this event. If I need to run service for it to work then it does not have any meaning, because application is "sleeping" when there are now events. Or in developers terms, thread is in "waiting" state and it does not consume cpu time.
I developed other application Gesture Control for touch gestures and despite there are more touch events that SPen events, applicatio never appears in battery stats on my devices. I don't think you will notice any battery decrease with SPen Control too.
ah sorry my fault. wrong Word!
i dont really care about the Service it's more the app in the Status bar thats annoying me!
And the Note 10.1 does Support app Start when you unplug the Pen. altough you cant choose your own app.
(But somehow its broken for me now.... maybe because i flashed another Kernel or other stuff.)
Great app! +1
I bought the application and works really well but it would be very useful (and easier) to create custom gesture by drawing them, like G for google or F for facebook for example.
Just tried this with Paranoid Android and works. Sweet now you can have SPen and not be on stock based roms. Awesome!!!

Its working but have slow down effect / when open folder with 10 or more apps - not smooth open but with big lag , its very anoying
N9005 Lollipop
Just wanted to drop this here to help people out who are dealing with broken buttons or simply want a shortcut to take a screenshot without using the normal button combo.
This app is for 4.0 (ics) and above and does require root.
I used the terminal command to take a screenshot rather than code another way to take screenshots so it should work with any device.
If it doesn't work with your device then your rom must not use standard Android terminal commands and you will have to find out what the command for your system is and use the tasker code I will link below to make your own. (not that hard - it's how I made this)
Usage : tap icon or launch via your choice of gesture launcher.
App will wait 1.5 seconds then take a screenshot and display a toast to let you know it is done or if it failed.
Tasker task usage: unzip file and import task - modify and use how you see fit.
How I use this app:
Lg stock rom has a shortcut on the nav ring called quick memo that takes a screenshot. I find this very useful on my Verizon g2 as the buttons are in the back and Verizon insisted on making them smaller so they looked better (I guess that was the reason). I switched to a aosp rom and missed this so I did some searching and found this command for tasker. I did a little tweaking and exported as an app and use slide launcher to provide a shortcut to it.
Bump! Anybody have any feedback? Ideas, suggestions, gripes?
How to you implement the tasker shortcut? Ex... I have the galaxy S6 and there is no xposed framework as of now which doesn't allow me to make a shortcut on the power menu. So I wanted to link the shortcut to long pressing the home button via tasker. Is this possible?
Where it saves the screenshot at Resurrection ROM -a custom rom-?
It gave me that it successfully took the screenshot but i can't find where it saved the it.
It asked for root permissions.

Sorry for the long silence! I no longer have a rootable phone but it either creates a "screenshot" folder or just saves to the normal location that screenshots save to on your ROM - but some ROMs won't scan every folder except on boot . I will look into improving this function but I can't promise anything since root is required and I don't have root .

That's strange being it stores it as png - a common image format. If you take a screenshot with the buttons where does it go? Also what format does it save in? And does it show up in the gallery no issues?

When i take a screenshot with buttons it saves it to same location.
All my screenshots saved in /o/pictures/screenshots
This app saves it in png format
same format as the others which is (an example) Screenshot_2015-10-26-19-27-22.png
but doesn't appear in any gallery app, but when i take screenshots by keys it appear immediately.
Always first screenshot this app take save it with name Screenshot_output.png

Thanks for sharing this - I was looking for a small and fast app to remap the Bixby button on my Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. I made a tutorial and video on how to use it, you can read it here.
Could you have some Tasker integration? Thus making the uses limitless!
Thanks for all the feedback!

2. Create a shortcut in your launcher (or anywhere else where you can create shortcuts) Select Tasker's "Task Shortcut" and select the task.
So I hope some day bxActions will allow shortcuts.

You could have Tasker REMAP the button for you dependent on what app you're in, where you are, whether the phone is`locked or unlocked etc
thanx, i will try this out when i get my phone.
I will probably map it to the camera since double tapping the home button always seem off on the s7e and idk how it will feel on the s8
How about assigning the button to a shutter button instead of launching the camera?
Anyone know if this app is affected by the OTA?
https://www.xda-developers.com/sams...to-remap-the-bixby-button-on-the-galaxy-s8s8/
@nest75068
Yes, I guess unfortunately it will be affected :
This news comes from XDA dev Flar2, who was updating his Button Mapper app for the GS8. He notes that his new Telus Galaxy S8 allowed remapping of the Bixby button with Button Mapper when he received it, but an OTA update changed the button's functionality. Now, the Bixby button's action is no longer routed through accessibility. Thus, it can't be changed without root access. I'd expect a similar OTA to hit all the other carrier variants as well.

Is this still working for everyone?
I was playing with it and one S8 had an option for flashlight toggle and the other S8 didn't.
Any idea why or how to get the flashlight toggle to show up as an option?
Still working on my TMO S8 I got today.
Edit: Button Mapper from the store has the option for flashlight toggle and it's pretty quick to turn on and off.
Is there a version available that does not have these permission items within Accessibility?
bxActions wants permission to:
- Monitor your actions - Receive notifications when you're interacting with an app
- Observe text you type - This includes personal data such as credit card numbers and passwords
This is a no-way warning for me...

Any app that is used as an accessibility service on a phone auto requires these permissions. The bixby button action is only available through the accessibility service at this point, so there will be no solution that does not require this. Maybe if this or some other app was open sourced people would be more likely to approve of this

I will write a tutorial after I finish up with a Google Assistant app I'm working on for work, In short I used a combination of button mapper and Tasker to get the desired effect without root. I also did not install the update which blocks modifications to the bixby button.
you can do it on any version with bixbye, tasker, and autotools.
use bixbye to trigger a tasker task.
in tasker create a profile "event - plugin - bixbye" and have its task be to trigger immersive mode through autotools.
That sounds good.. would the bixby button disable immersive mode too? Ie a second press?
Are you able to put together more detailed instructions?
Try tiles app works great you can add immersive mode as a quick setting
Sent from my SM-G950U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
This is the tutorial I followed for it
http://www.themefoxx.com/2017/04/ho...r-and-status-bar-on-the-galaxy-s8s8-plus.html
No root needed - using ADB commands
I'll try this out, fully immersive experience will look awesome on this phone.
