Expanded desktop - Samsung Galaxy S8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hoping somehow we can get expanded desktop working without root. I have a Nexus 6, and love being able to hide the nav bar.

Yeah I think so

Oohh indeed, my bad
I must have seen this in an other of his videos. A double tap on his button enabled expanded desktop.
But you can see at the begining of the video, the S8+ (on the right) has expanded desktop enabled, there is no navbar

I will write a tutorial after I finish up with a Google Assistant app I'm working on for work, In short I used a combination of button mapper and Tasker to get the desired effect without root. I also did not install the update which blocks modifications to the bixby button.

you can do it on any version with bixbye, tasker, and autotools.
use bixbye to trigger a tasker task.
in tasker create a profile "event - plugin - bixbye" and have its task be to trigger immersive mode through autotools.

That sounds good.. would the bixby button disable immersive mode too? Ie a second press?
Are you able to put together more detailed instructions?

Try tiles app works great you can add immersive mode as a quick setting

This is the tutorial I followed for it
http://www.themefoxx.com/2017/04/ho...r-and-status-bar-on-the-galaxy-s8s8-plus.html
No root needed - using ADB commands

I'll try this out, fully immersive experience will look awesome on this phone.

Nexus 5 Expand Desktop without CyanogenMod

So I had CyanogenMod 11 installed for a while and whilst I much prefered it to stock android I am a big user of the camera and I couldnt stand the CyanogenMod camera so I have gone back to stock.
Whilst I am mostly finding stock completely useable, one thing I am really missing is CM's option to expand desktop.
So I am wondering if there is some img that I can flash to give the phone this feature without having to install the whole rom?
Thank you.
Bump
Search for xposed framework, then follow the instructions to install. Reboot. Download GravityBox (can be downloaded from within xposed app) and activate it. Reboot.
Expanded desktop is under display tweaks in GravityBox, and there's even pie control in status bar tweaks.
Don't forget to thank the devs

+1. I use this method on both of my phones and it works beautifully. There is also an immersive mode option in gravitybox but I much prefer standard expanded desktop + pie controls.
I wrote up a semi detailed guide on how to set it up- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554592
Thank you very much to both of you, much appreciated

Thanks for the guide. Do you have any idea how I can automate this in tasker for stock 4.4.2 rom? (i.e. auto immersive mode / expand desktop for specific applications) I have tried enabling it via secure settings, but it complains about my rom.

You know, I never got into tasker so I can't help you there, but there is an Xposed module called App Settings which allows you to set Immersive Mode on a per app basis. It's a must-have module, IMO. You can download it from the Xposed Installer app.

[REQ] Remove Nav Bar

Hi all,
Introudcing my request for someone to implement a no-nav bar mod, either via Xposed or through any other way.
In order to maximise screen estate, I would use pie-related apps in order to emulate the nav bar buttons.
Thanks a lot.

There are many many ways out there, you can find them by doing a simple search
But persionally I prefer GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys ★ root for this matter,
or you can try this app (might need xposed) to do the job:
[APP][4.0+]Ultimate Dynamic Navbar
good luck

I agree, and I am using Xposed with GMD Gesture Control to replace it. For whatever it's worth, when I used auto hide soft keys, the green phone button on the dialer disappeared. Switched to Xposed method and haven't looked back.
Expanded desktop mode via gravity box
Just add this line "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" without the quotes in system/build.prop using a text editor.Reboot your phone and voila...no navbar. Before removing the navbar install LMT launcher or any other alternative. And for the dial button problem in phone app just install APP SETTINGS xposed module and set the Contacts dpi to 305 and everything will be perfect.

Cool, looking forward to testing it out when I get my S8.
Thanks for sharing this - I was looking for a small and fast app to remap the Bixby button on my Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. I made a tutorial and video on how to use it, you can read it here.
Could you have some Tasker integration? Thus making the uses limitless!
Thanks for all the feedback!
I already have some cool features on the list. I will add more as soon as S8 gets released.

If app shortcuts were selectable, then Tasker integration is not necessary. You could use a Tasker shortcut.

1. Create a task in Tasker
2. Create a shortcut in your launcher (or anywhere else where you can create shortcuts) Select Tasker's "Task Shortcut" and select the task.
So I hope some day bxActions will allow shortcuts.
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/developers.html
You could have Tasker REMAP the button for you dependent on what app you're in, where you are, whether the phone is`locked or unlocked etc
thanx, i will try this out when i get my phone.
I will probably map it to the camera since double tapping the home button always seem off on the s7e and idk how it will feel on the s8
How about assigning the button to a shutter button instead of launching the camera?
Anyone know if this app is affected by the OTA?
https://www.xda-developers.com/sams...to-remap-the-bixby-button-on-the-galaxy-s8s8/
@nest75068
Yes, I guess unfortunately it will be affected :
This news comes from XDA dev Flar2, who was updating his Button Mapper app for the GS8. He notes that his new Telus Galaxy S8 allowed remapping of the Bixby button with Button Mapper when he received it, but an OTA update changed the button's functionality. Now, the Bixby button's action is no longer routed through accessibility. Thus, it can't be changed without root access. I'd expect a similar OTA to hit all the other carrier variants as well.

Is this still working for everyone?
I was playing with it and one S8 had an option for flashlight toggle and the other S8 didn't.
Any idea why or how to get the flashlight toggle to show up as an option?
Still working on my TMO S8 I got today.
Edit: Button Mapper from the store has the option for flashlight toggle and it's pretty quick to turn on and off.
Is there a version available that does not have these permission items within Accessibility?
bxActions wants permission to:
- Monitor your actions - Receive notifications when you're interacting with an app
- Observe text you type - This includes personal data such as credit card numbers and passwords
This is a no-way warning for me...

Any app that is used as an accessibility service on a phone auto requires these permissions. The bixby button action is only available through the accessibility service at this point, so there will be no solution that does not require this. Maybe if this or some other app was open sourced people would be more likely to approve of this

Putting content behind navigation bar

Hi all,
honestly I have no idea how to explain this.
Does someone know if there is a way to put content (browser, Facebook, etc ... so basically everything that you can scroll vertically) behind the navigation bar?
For instance Bixby has this out of the box.
Personally I don't like soft keys, but this way I could have more content. Immersive Mode that hides the soft keys is not an option.
Here are two screenshots - Bixby and Chrome. I want the Bixby one systemwide
Don't know if it can be done using some apps but the latest update for G955F you can hide the navbar in most of the applications.

Just install BxActions from the Play Store and set the Bixby button to toggle full screen for an individual app or enable immersive mode.

Question about the latest update?

Hello!
So I just have a quick question about the latest update for the S8, where they removed black as an option for the Navbar color and enabled us to hide it (immersive mode).
Whenever you hide the navbar, how does the "swipe up" gesture work in reality? As in how "good" does it work? I remember (before the update) trying the immersive mode with Custom Navigation bar (app), and the swipe up gesture was bad, whenever I tried to get the navbar up, I was scrolling up in the app I was using as well..?

It works great. Much easier than previously. And here's a link on Reddit to get Black NavBar back, it works and is safe.

Nice! But how much different is that from this: https://www.xda-developers.com/change-galaxy-s8-navigation-bar-color/amp/ ?
I'd rather use ADB than download an apk from an unknown source

It's just easier than ADB, if you don't have the sdk downloaded or not around a PC. I used ADB to get rid of the battery icon in the status bar. The apk is just an overlay like all of these.

Yea alright, I just don't know the upload source, so ADB "feels" safer
Just installed it, works great, thank you indeed.
