HTC One OTA US Unlocked 6.0.1 SENSE7GP_ATT_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_1.57.617.10.OTA - HTC One A9

OTA came down this AM for HTC One A9 US Unlocked.

I'm so glad I wasn't the one who paid for my AT&T branded A9. AT&T is really living up to their crappy reputation with this phone.
Translation: no OTA for this device since early December.

Here a Link to the OTA Update

Now you have two Links

with 1.57.617.10 OTA tonight. Is there a way to roll back previous version?

didn't provide much info on your phone, soff etc.
But anyway, I'm SOff, and to get the update I did a complete wipe in TWRP. Then, flashed the stock 1.56.617 recovery. Then, RUU with the official 1.56.617 from HTC.
Then, took the OTA. The RUU kept blowing up, had to do recovery option several times, and finally it worked and RUU back to stock, before the OTA.
After OTA. Flash TWRP recovery, Format Data. Then, Super SU latest...now rooted with custom recovery.
Had to reinstall everything, and also back to xposed now on 1.57.617 version.

after I ruu stock , when I try to update it tells me I have modded system. Got it booted and rooted, only problem now I flash xposed it acts as if it's install meaning the optimizing app notification but it's not installed..

The xposed thread on the forum talks about the Optimizing app issue upon reboot. Nothing we can do about it. And it only delays boot for me, like 7 apps, 15-20 seconds or so when I do reboot, which is rarely.

Rogers System Update - (1.94.631.3)

I've been checking for updates on my one x almost everyday for a month now, and an update just went out.
It's a system update (1.94.631.3) 67Mb.
Still not sure what its updating.
Try it and let us know!

I'm currently on version 1.73.631.1.
I can download the update and run the installer.
It gets halfway through the update then shows a phone with an error icon on it.
phone resets and im still on the old version.

Are you unlocked/rooted? Or pure stock?
I think I'm going to wait a bit before installing this update...
for the record I'm on 1.73 still... not sure what's in this update
That's odd.. from other X & XL 4.0.4 releases they have used a 2.x.x.x release code and I'm surprised they would release another 4.0.3 version with 4.0.4 out.
I called HTC.
They couldnt tell me how to fix the error or what the update includes.
I was told to factory reset and try it again, which I did. The update still failed and I have to resetup my phone now...
Custom Recovery Screen
I downloaded the update successfully on my rooted One X (with stock ROM). When I hit install, it restarts the phone and goes into the custom recovery screen... I don't really know what to do from there though... anyone got any ideas?

Need to relock bootloader, restore recovery and return OS to stock.
Basically relock bootloader and flash original RUU.

Only Singapore has gotten 2.x aka 4.0.4.
All other regions were recently updated to things like 1.88(previous Singtel), 1.89(Telstra), 1.91(Telus), 1.92(o2 Germany) and now 1.94(Rogers). There is probably a 1.90 and 1.93 somewhere. Eg maybe 1.93 is the soon to be released AT&T and maybe Vodafone Germany is at 1.90?
Only thing I can think that might mess it up, is that my phone was rooted, but i've done a factory reset already.
So the only other thing I can think of is that the update fails because my phone shows "tampered" from rooting.
You need to install a ruu(the correct rogers one). That will remove tampered warning.
I just downloaded the update. It's def worth doing it. My phone was rooted as well but had no issues with update. Multitasking issue for me seems to be fixed, well a million times better than it was anyways (Seems i spoke too soon on the multitasking, its a bit better, but after a couple apps its back to normal) no more reloading every time you go back to something. Also I used to find it slow going into text messages etc, and the contact list was slow to update especially when scrolling through, totally eliminated now. So much faster and less bogged down feeling.

I don't think that removes the tampered flag.

Installing a RUU does remove the tampered flag. so run the stock ruu, flash the update then unlock the bootloader again then push the custom recovery. flash a root for cmw then you will be rooted again. If you want a custom rom from it, then do a system dump after the upgrade.

Where did you get that and how do I flash it?
I would also like to keep root if possible.
I assume people catch the link while the phone tries to download it.
You can't manually flash a fota. You need to apply all the patch files against the original firmware intended to be updated.
It's a long tedious process, only a smart dev will be able to pull it off.
It was done to get 4.0.4 but is it worth the effort for this? This is likely equal to all the other regions recent 4.0.3 updates.
Why are you guys so eager to flash this? I'm sure there are better custom roms. This will update your hboot so beware. If s-off is achieved you'll be **** out of luck.

[Q] Unable to OTA Update

Hello!
I have recieved the Android 4.0.4 OTA update but am unable to install it. I had unlocked my bootloader but havent installed any ROM, and tried to do the OTA update, the phone shut down and booted up to the fastboot menu.. i relocked my phone and tried again, same result.. I called HTC and they had no idea, they got me to turn off the fast boot in the power settings, but that didnt work!
What do I need to do to get the OTA update to work?
Based on your avatar, you are in Australia? Not sure what the firmware changes are for your region. But in the US, the latest 4.0.4 firmware also changes hboot, and plugs the holes by which kernels and radios can be flashed from recovery. In other words, not being able to install the OTA may be a good thing. It might be better to install one of the rooted stock ROMs in the Development forum.
Can't say for certain, since my US carrier (AT&T) does things so much differently than anyone else. So hopefully some folks in your region can chime in.

Hey thanks for the response.
Yeah I am in Australia, but I would like to get OTA Updates until Im comfortable with properly putting new ROMs onto my phone..
My service provider (Optus) took it's sweet time to release this update and their only solution is to take it into their shop to get it repaired/looked at..
If you are rooted, you may need to unroot.
You may also want to try finding the OTA file on the SD card and deleting it, and trying to download it again.

[Q] Help me please

Ok, so I have a HTC ONE X and i've had it since September and I have never gotten the 4.0.4 update. I contacted my provider (AT&T), they told me that they made the update available over the air. I went to my Settings app and clicked Check for Updates and after about a minute it went back to the same screen. I then contacted HTC Customer Support and the guy told me that they never made it available OTA. I'm confused. Is there something wrong with my phone? Help!?!?!

huh?
So you are on the 1.85 firmware?
If you have any desire to root, flash custom ROMs, etc., my advice would be to not update, and root the phone now. The 2.20 firmware includes an updated 1.14 hboot which plugs the exploits by which boot.img and radios can be flashed in recovery. This means that flashing ROMs takes extra steps of extracting boot.img from the ROM and flashing it over fastboot. You can't flash radios at all on the new hboot (with the exception of CM10 radios). People are actually downgrading the hboot, so they don't have to deal with these things.
Once rooted and bootloader unlocked, you can just flash any ROM you want, including stock rooted 2.20 or newer versions firmwares.
If you still want to upgrade the official way, and can't get the OTA, you can flash the RUU. It will wipe user data, but IMO this is a better cleaner way to update than OTA, anyway.
here is the ota http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_EVITA_UL_...2.7-1.85.502.3_R2_releasenin45grzkfswb95v.zip
this method might let you manually update [How-To] Update devices via the OTA .zip

[Q] Will I get OTA updates after RUU?

So I finally unbricked my phone by using the RUU to restore my HTC One S. Now I am relocked (checked the boot loader), unrooted, and fully stocked. Does this mean that I will be able to get future OTA updates from T-Mobile USA? I read somewhere that if you RUU'd your phone, you won't get the updates? So will I get the Jellybean update OTA when it comes out? And I also have the stock recovery. Everything on my phone is stocked now and everything is working fine.

[Q] Can't update my phone - where can i find manual files?

I have an HTC One XL from Hong Kong and haven't been able to update to 4.1
I contacted HTC's customer services and this was the conversation:
Yemi: thanks, one moment please
Your device was manufactured in Hong Kong and only has one year warranty. As it is out of warranty, you are not able to receive any further updates
me: so no updates to future versions of sense or android at all?
Yemi: unfortunately not, If your device was made in UK or Europe, this would have been available for your device
me: ok, that explains why I can't update. thanks
Yemi: you can update manually through htcdev
me: oh, thanks, can you tell me where exactly I should be looking?
Yemi: unfortunately, that falls outside of my support
--
I had no idea updates stopped when the warranty did firstly, and secondly, can't see anywhere on the dev site to download or manually update the firmware.
I know i can flash a custom rom, but i would like to stick with sense and the stock android if possible.
I have looked around and downloaded a few different RUU files, most aren't for the one xl, but the one x, either way, they all fail.
Any ideas?

I don't think that is strictly true (I think people still get updates well after their warranty is up). It was more of the support person's (poorly phrased) way of saying, that since you are no longer within warranty, they aren't obligated to support you. Or he didn't have a good answer, and just wanted to get rid of you.
Him telling you to get the files from HTCDev is kind of a crap response as well, as you have to be pretty knowledgeable to know where that is. This thread has the links to the OTA files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37227608
But I don't know of any way to manually force the update to install (after you download it from the above link), without root. This is the only method I know of: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701460
Why exactly can't you get the OTA update by the normal means? Are you not in Hong Kong?
To update:
Place the OTA.zip file on your SD card.
Boot to bootloader (press and hold power. The capacitive buttons will blink a bunch of times and then the phone will shut off.
When the phone shuts off, let go of power and press and hold volume until the bootloader comes up.
Select recovery.
Then you'll get a picture on your phone of a phone or something
Press and hold volume up and, while holding volume press power then release.
It will say error cannot mount SD card, that's normal and then take you into recovery
There, you will select Install update from Phone storage or Install update from internal storage (Don't select install update from sd card, it will just try to locate external memory of which there is none.)
Select your OTA zip file.
Your phone will update and then notify you when it's time to reboot.
Good luck
thanks for the response.
I'm not in Hong Kong. Picked it up last year on a trip and thought i'd be able to upgrade when 4.1 came out.
When i search for updates, it says "there are no updates available for your phone".
I'll check the link and hopefully find something, and will then follow exad's instructions and fingers crossed, i'll be on 4.1 :good:

OTAs are typically not available if you are not located in the intended region for the device (in a different country). Normally, the recommendation from HTC is to install the RUU, but unfortunately, a 3.17 RUU was never released for HK region, for whatever reason.

That's why I say "typically not available", as I've seen some exceptions.
You might also try to backup your personal data, do a factory reset, and try to update again, using the "normal" means (checking for update in Settings). This has been known to help update problems, which happen even when the device is in the intended region.

If you are going to go through the effort of unlocking the bootloader and rooting, you might as well just install custom recovery and flash a custom ROM, or stock rooted ROM; and not even mess with the OTA. It will make for a cleaner install, and may well be better in the long run anyway. But that is just my opinion.
What version is the phone currently on? You should update via all ota's one by one from a base.
Eg if 1.77.708.2 you can't update officially and need to rebase with ruu to atleast 1.77.708.3 I think it was a demo version not for public.
If 1.77.708.3 you need 1.89 then 2.42 then 3.17.
Or skip steps by flashing the newest ruu you can get you hands on, eg 2.42
Post version, cid and soff if possible.

That's true. You can't skip an OTA, if updating by OTA. OTA is usually just an incremental update, where an RUU is a complete package.

I don't think there is a stock rooted version of the exact firmware you are looking for (HK 3.17), but there are several 3.17 stock rooted ROMs from other regions. The only difference would be some of the bloatware, and some other minor differences. Look under "Stock Rooted" in the CUSTOM ROMs section of my index: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Or better yet, flash a "stock-ish" custom ROM. There are custom ROMs like CleanROM, UrDroid, and others, that give a largely stock Sense feel, but strip out the bloatware, makes some performance enhancements, add add a few features, without diverging too far from the stock ROM experience. ViperXL is another reputable ROM, that ventures a bit further into customization territory (but still largely stock experience).

The toolkit is intended for the AT&T version, which has more restrictions than any other carrier. You won't need to SuperCID (and don't think the toolkit will work for SuperCID on your version, anyway). But other toolkit features may be helpful (unlock bootloader, installing custom recovery, etc.).
Be aware, you don't need the toolkit per se. In short, all you need to do on your version of the phone, is to go to HTCDev.com, follow the instruction there to unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery, then flash the custom ROM.
I'd advise to start reading, before attempting any of this. As there are various nuances and pitfalls that can only be learned by reading.
Also be aware that unlocking the bootloader deletes your personal data from the phone. So back up anything that is valuable to you. Specifically, it formats the /data partition, but normally not the SD partition (but I would back that up too, just to be safe).
unlocked bootloader, flashed recovery...no recovery!
when i go into recovery, i get the "this build is for development purposes. Do not distribute..." message and then the phone reboots and loads the home screen.
tried twrp and cwm
If you installed using the toolkit, try installing recovery manually using fastboot.
didn't bother with the toolkit in the end and used fastboot and that was the result.
i'm almost convinced that i bought a brick to begin with!
