[ Review ] Htc Desire 828 Dual sim - Selfie King - General Topics

HTC Desire 828 Dual SIM
HTC Desire 828 belongs to HTC’s range of camera smartphones where the UltraPixel camera, first introduced in the original HTC One, is now in the front. With UltraPixels, HTC says the sensor size is bigger and captures better selfies, even in low-light and has a 26 mm wide-angle lens to capture a wider field range.
The new HTC phone has the same features of the Desire family, including the handy BlinkFeed. Overall, the device flaunts a plastic design and is lightweight. There is nothing really new about the Desire 828 that we haven’t already seen in the past, only for a new price tag that might bring a smile on the faces of many HTC fans.
Specs:
5.5-inch Full HD display
| Android 5.1 with HTC Sense UI
| 1.5Ghz octa-core Mediatek 6753T processor
| 2GB RAM
| 16GB ROM (expandable up to 2TB
| 13MP rear camera with OIS
| Ultrapixel selfie camera
| 4G (both FDD and TDD) support
| 2,800 mAh battery
What is good?
Despite being a 5.5-inch phablet, the Desire 828 is comfortable to hold. The display quality of the smartphone is really good. Watching movies and playing games is a delight. Note that there is no protection for the display screen. HTC BoomSound offers a pleasing audio experience. The smartphone comes with dual speakers, thus, the audio is pretty loud.
The octa-core Mediatek SoC makes the Desire 828 pretty smooth. It is well equipped to handle heavy games like Asphalt 8- Airborne. Multitasking on the device is also a delight. For most users, performance should not be a issue.the Desire 828 comes with one of the fastest cameras. The image is quality is at par with other competitors in this price range. The Ultrapixel selfie camera is also capable of delivering some decent results. It is very responsive and the ‘smile to click a selfie’ works wonderfully fast. Overall, the device offer a good experience on the software front.
What is not that good?
The battery life of the device is not something to be proud about. If you are a heavy user, then you might run out of juice before reaching home from work. I got a feeling that you would need to pretty careful with the device, it is not among the most durable smartphones.

Please list which 5 upcoming android phones interest you the most. I compiled a list of possibilities below, but other new phones may be accepted. Discuss why if you want, add to the pros and cons.
Galaxy S3:
Pros – Exynos quad core 32nm processor that’s LTE capable, Ceramic casing, bezel-less design, ICS (rumoured to be stock vanilla not TW) 4.6+"large screen.
Cons – It’s all one big rumour for now. Plus will likely have TW.
HTC One X:
Pros – Tegra3 quin core, large 4.7” screen, 32GB storage plus 23GB dropbox, Bluetooth 4, 8MP 1080p recording. ICS, Available Now. Excellent Camera features.
Cons – No micro sd support, look of camera, heard dropbox only valid for 2 years. Debatable whether sense 4 falls in here.
LG 4x HD:
Pros – Tegra3 quin core, large 4.7” screen, 8MP camera w/1080p recording, good battery 2140mAh, NFC, Bluetooth 4, micro sd card ICS
Cons –MWC video demo seemed laggy
Asus Pad phone:
Pros – Versatile new phone concept that can fit in a tablet, dual core 1.5 GHz Krait a15 28nm processor, desirable 4.3 screen . Q2 release.
Cons – Possibly a pricy combo.
Droid Fighter:
Pros - Large 3300mAh battery, big 4.6 MP 720p screen, LTE, Bluetooth 4, ICS
Cons – possible rumour, nothing really known. Motoblur.
Motorola Atrix 3:
Pros – Tegra3 quin core, large 3300mAh battery, desirable 4.3” 720p screen, 10 MP camera. ICS
Cons – Almost all based on rumour with very little confirmed. Motoblur.
Fujitsu F12arc:
Pros – Tegra3 quin processor, highly water and dust resistant, Big 4.6” screen, 13 MP camera , 4GLTE (??? Thought it was incompatible with tegra 3 so far.)ICS
Cons – Unknown battery life, still ironing out ICS development glitches, maybe Q3 release or later.
Panasonic Eluga Power:
Pros - A fairly good processor 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, Big 5” screen, water and dust proof, 8 MP camera, Fast Charge, ICS
Cons –Mediocre battery 1800 mAh, global launch details still speculated.
Hauwei Ascend D Quad:
Pros – Fast quad core, lovely 4.5” screen 1080p recording, good size 2500mAh battery ICS
Cons – Quality unproven, GPU unknown, might be a bit late to the game Q3-Q4
Because I'm on att, I would have to pick Galaxy s3, atrix 3, HTC one x, LG 4x HD, and Asus padfone in that order. nice gathering of all the rumors btw!
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
Those are good choices. Tegra 3 is lovely and I hold a lot of respect for it, but the Exynos really intrigues me and 32nm will likely provide good power efficiency.
My list is similar Galaxy S3, Atrix 3, Fujitsu F12arc, HTC One X, Asus Padfone. Although the LG4x HD could easily be swapped for HTC One X. Optus didn't get any of the Atrix series though so I have to see what ends up here in Australia.
Im eager to see the eluga power.
Some more pros and cons for it:
Pro: Small form factor: As big as a galaxy nexus but with 5" Display, On Screen Buttons
Con: apparantly no LED Flash, no MHL or other video out, fixed battery
I have to add, that the device is ip57 certified - that means it is actually waterproof not only water resistant.

Good to see others adding additional info.
So voting for a tougher version, water proof version of the galaxy note with what should be a greater a15 version duo core s4 snapdragon processor is a great choice. A processor that is suppose to stand toe to toe with tegra 3. Or surpass it if certain benchmarks are to be believed.
The waterproof phones (I believed the F12arc also says waterproof, I don't list until I know it is) are now getting competitive processors, unlike the defy. Phones with great build and processors should always rank high on our lists. Glad to see someone voting that way. Just hope we get to see it. Aussie land hasn't seen the Razr Maxx yet, so I can only pray for the Eluga power or F12arc.

One S successor announced.

The successor to the One S has (probably) been announced.
It is called the Desire 600. It has:
Code:
• A 4.5in 540x960 SLCD2 display
• A 1.2Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor
• An Adreno 203 GPU
• 1GB RAM
• 8GB storage (wut?)
• A microSD slot (ah)
• An 8MP camera with f/2.0 lens
• A 1.6MP front camera
• NFC
• Dual-SIM capability
• And [B]NO[/B] LTE compatibility.
It comes in two colour combinations, silver with a black screen and red trim, or completely black. The silver one looks disgusting.
Link to picture - original image is waaaaaaaaay too big to fit on this page.
It comes shipped with 4.1.2 and Sense 5. BoomSound is included, no word on Zoe yet (so probably not included).
It's on pre-order in Russia at the moment for 15,990 ruble (GB £340, US $509).
HTC say:
The new HTC Desire 600 dual sim will be available with mobile operators and major retailers in a number of markets from early June 2013. For more information visit www.htc.com

i dont think that this phone can be Successor of One S. if a 720p display was included then it was a Successor. i think is successor of desire x..
My thinking was that:
Code:
• One X/XL/X+ has 4.7in display, and so does the One (M7)
• Desire 600 has 4.5in display
• One S has 4.3in display
• Desire X has 4.0in display
So it would be logical to say that this phone is an upgrade to ours. The only problem with out screen wasn't the resolution, it was the crappy PenTile RGBG layout that HTC chose for it. By making it SLCD2, that should improve quality (but makes colours far less vivid). Also, it has NFC, which our phone doesn't have. It has a microSD card slot, which our phone doesn't have. And it has 2 more cores, which our phone doesn't have.
HTC have only confirmed it for Asia and Africa, no European countries (apart from Ukraine) and no American countries, which could suggest that they will cater to our higher standards and bring out a phone with HD screen with AMOLED (hopefully), Zoe and that UltraPixel camera.
Yayyy we can port Sense 5 from this device and although the hardware will be difficult, no resizing needed
The "true" successor" to the one S will be the one mini/M4 (2GB RAM, highly clocked krait, ultrapixel camera, the zero gap metal body construction, boomsound, 720P res. [will most likely be SLCD 2] etc.), this is a successor to the desire X, it is considered part of the budget/mid range series of htc phones.
qHD res. (SLCD 2) with that screen size won't be that great anyway, only be marginally better than our one S, main difference being text
Also, just because it has "more cores", doesn't mean it will be better, afaik, that chipset is based on 45nm, our dual core krait is based on 28nm and looking at the rest of the specs, it doesn't look like it will be as good of a performer when it comes to performance (especially in the GPU department), power efficiency and it will most likely produce more heat.
A really good dual core chipset with 2GB RAM is much better than a budget quad core chipset with 1GB RAM.
The only part of this phone that can be consider a true upgrade (so far) are the speakers, NFC, SD slot (but 8GB of internal storage is very low, only 6GB or so will be usable and these days games etc. are getting big and you can't move stuff to the SD card any more)
That phone more likely is a successor to the Desire series on it's own.
Either way, the big hitter for me now is NFC. If that isn't included by HTC, I am moving elsewhere. Loyalty can only get you so far if they don't listen to the loyal end user. Like a bloody 16 million colour notification LED, there's 518,400 of them on our screen, would it really hurt to add in just one more? And leaving NFC out of this phone was just plain stupid anyway.

These specs are of a low-end device, It's not a 'successor' to the One S in any means, dual SIM suggests it's targeted at developing countries, which is silly considering HTC has been moving away from them.
Edit:
If you want to 'upgrade' to this phone it's fine but it's specs are way worse than what is packaged into our One S, don't get illuded, Snapdragon 200 is Cortex-A5, it's really power efficient but it's the worst you can get of this generation.
I like that, the grey-red combination IMHO is really cool...
Dual-SIM is a really useful feature in the "first world" though, I'd love a flagship phone with that.
HTC are thinking in the long-term by targeting developing countries. When they flourish, the more loyal customers, the better. It's just a question as to if HTC will survive that long.

In my opinion they will not survive if they work same way as now
Their dual SIM have problems
From HTC One S
I think that the successor of our phone will be the HTC one mini... The desire will be the successor to the "desire" series, while the new one mini will be targeted for the one series users who just don't want a 4,5'+ screen.
My opinion

This is not a successor to the One series. Its for the Desire series. So in a way its a successor to the Desire X and SV.
In the one series is the One Mini.
What an interesting device. I'll keep my one s thank you htc

I'll probably convert to the childish side, sadly. My Mum got an S III a few days ago and as much as it pains me to say it, it is quite good. It's just the UI that looks awful, while Sense tries to look somewhat professional, TouchWiz looks like Samsung's target audience is everyone below the age of thirteen. All the features added are really good though, and Samsung give a long long support length. The S II is getting 4.2.2 and our phone might not. The S IV will probably make it to 6.0.

Yes sammy supports long
Reason sense is deeply mix in os & complete
touch viz is just android theme I suppose touch wiz as stock android + change some icons some layout change
think of sammy's gallery, dialer, calendar, clock ......
so when a new android comes they have to change some icons & roll out new OTA update
From HTC One S
Honestly I doubt that will be the successor, as it's not better on all aspects (it looks like).. Guess we'll find out soon enough..

HTC won't upgrade every aspect of it. They always leave one feature out that turns it from a brilliant phone to an "imagine what it could have been" phone.
COOL

LG G Pro 2 goes official with 5.9" display and Android 4.4 KitKat

The new LG G Pro 2 sports a 5.9-inch Full HD (1080 x 1920) IPS display, weighs 172 grams, and measures 157.9 × 81.9 × 8.3 mm - and yet the Korean company calls it a smartphone, not a phablet. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat, coming with an “evolved” KnockOn feature called Knock Code. For the moment, the rough automatic translation of the press release announcing the handset doesn’t allow us to fully understand how the new feature works.
The G Pro 2 is LG’s first smartphone to offer a high-power 1W speaker, which should make it a multimedia powerhouse. The handset has a 2.1MP front-facing camera, and a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and OIS plus (an improved version of the Optical Image Stabilization which debuted on the LG G2 last year). The rear camera can record 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) video. Other features: LTE-A connectivity, NFC, quad-core 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and a 3,200 battery (apparently removable).

How many of you impressed about G pro 2 ???
Back then, when the Optimus G was annouced, I was pretty impressed by the specs. Now though, I realise the lack in many aspects makes it a "second runner" in many point. The lack of update, even for bug correction and the lack of quality in certain apsects, like the camera software or audio rendering make it so that I won't be looking at "specs" only anymore.
Anyway, unless I can sell my OG a decent price to get a N5, I think I'll wait to see what will Lenovo do with Motorola.

I do find this phone attractive. But Butterfly series doesn't have a good dev base. Custom roms are difficult to find and low varieties.
