This phone doesn't heat at all - LG V10 General

I had a Samsung S5 before, (same with all the previous Galaxy models), any little thing I did, the phone would get very hot, just rebooting was enough, not to mention that it was always turning on in my pocket because of the side buttons... We know that heating is not healthy to electronics, and that they dont perform as well when hot...
The LG V10 is always cool, even when flashing a new version, installing a bunch of apps, and the back buttons prevent it from turning on in the pocket :good:

Yes, mine always stays cool.

For the S5 just one photo would do it

I agree. Coming from the G4 (Verizon) after restoring the G4 to factory defaults, it would get really hot when optimizing apps. I have yet to notice any major heat from the V10.

Usually games will heat it up~ try Adventure Capitalist if you want haha.

I only have games for the grandchildren

Mostly true...I have one occasion my V10 gets very warm/hot. When I was encrypting the phone...it took around 15-20 to do a full encrypt and the heat built up to very warm/hot stage. It cooled down after the encryption was done.

[Q] Sensation getting hot in Bootloader?

Has anyone else noticed their Sensation getting hot even when in the Bootloader?
And I'm not talking about the screen or the battery (those stay cool), but the bottom part of the phone, mainly the front, on the buttons and at the bottom of the screen.
This might be part of a problem I describe here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259247) but I just wanna see what people say

I think it gets hot in bootloader due to the screen being on constantly and it being white using more energy? Plus if its plugged into to the pc aswell ti will get hot.
PS. In regards to your other thread, I had this issue at first but it has calmed down, But when using mobile data the phone gets hot sometimes in the 40s (used to be alot worse) and also playing some games it can heat up. After peaking o HTC rep they said aslong as its under 50C its safe to use.
Its a very common issue and pretty piss taking but hey, its the cpu thats heating up.

Thanks for your response mate.
The issue with the phone heating up was one I did NOT always have - it just suddenly appeared. Before that, it would only get hot while playing 3D games - otherwise, it would always stay nice & cool, or just a little warm, even when using 3G etc.
So, I don't think it's normal. I think it's a problem. Whether HTC wants to admit it is a different question.

Touching all over the screen?

Hello, i have been having a problem where my phone will automatically touch all over the screen, i can tell because i enabled show touches, i have formatted my phone before and this is still happening, could anyone help me with this, thanks in advance. I will upload a video in about 30 mins to show what is happening, this is also very hard to type considering it is touching everywhere.

I'm not sure what causes it but a few people have this issue was another thread awhile back. only outcome was turn off screen and back on and it went away.
I do turn off the screen, but it comes right back after about 5 minutes.

i used to have this fairly often but it's been a while now. i would fix it by wiping down the screen really well, leading me to believe that it might have something to do with grease or something that gets on the screen. not positive tho..

Well, now that i have installed some mods and other stuff it seemed to have stopped. Don't know why the mods would affect it... I will wipe it down though just to be safe.
It's just the way it is - as it's winter now, and it's cold, it happens to me and my friend all the time, when we are using the phone outside. Screen off and on and it's working for another 30 seconds
yea when its cold outside mine does this as well +4C and lower. I took it apart and re seated the connectors it made little to no diff. when its warm i have no issues at all.
Could also be something on the screen itself - even a screen protector that gets damaged could cause an issue.
Also a case could cause the problem - I've had similar issues with my case/screen protector interacting with the screen.

The same thing is happening to me. I thought I was going nuts! But yes, when it's exposed to cold temperatures (35 degrees or so and lower), the screen can develop a mind of it's own. Kind of sucks in Wisconsin!

I have had this problem with the both the new Q LTE I received when the Q LTE launched, and also with the refurb unit I have received from Sprint.
Is there an explanation of the issue and a fix?
Should I swap it out at the Sprint store for another refurb?
Thanks.

Nexus 5 screen died today + dangerously hot lower screen

Went to unlock my phone this morning off the charger and the screen is totally dead. Couldn't unlock or do anything to it or even see what was going on, called Google and ordered a replacement ASAP.
Went through the not fun task of doing a nandroid backup without seeing what was on the screen and doing some trickery with screenshots then backing up my entire SD card.
However, here's the strange and potentially dangerous thing that I noticed later when I got home this evening. I went to look at the phone and go to a fastboot flash with the factory images and went to touch the bottom of the screen. When I went to do so, to the little bit of the left of the LED light was a SUPER hot portion of the phone. I almost burnt my finger it was so hot.
Not sure what to do about the issue, I feel like if I just call the support line they won't actually take in my concern legitimately. Any suggestions?
thats something quite strange
let us know what google says about RMA and this issue
Agree, maybe it's just your phone, maybe it's all the batch. Which batch/model do you have?

On my Transformer Infinity, sometimes the screen won't turn on at all. On a few occasions, if I press Power enough times, I get a glimpse of a message saying the Launcher process has stopped, but then my touchscreen doesn't register any input. The tablet is also sometimes running quite hot at those times. The only way I know to recover from this is press the Power button long enough to force a reboot, then everything is normal. Could this be what's happening? Do you know if the phone is still running under the black screen? Have you tried forcing a reboot, and did it work?
As for the hot phone, I've noticed my N5 does get a bit warm when I'm using it intensively (4G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and screen on all at the same time and in use) but not enough to burn me. Could be hard to tell which component is heating up like that since I think it could be the screen backlight, SoC or battery... Do let us know if you find out more.

I had called them and reported the screen totally dead with lines streaking vertically and got a new replacement ordered. It wasn't until late last night when I got back and had the screen on in this dead mode that the bottom was extremely hot. I'll have to call them back and let them know

Yeah hopefully, it definitely seems like it could be one of those things that could potentially start fire. The one I have is the LG-D820. Any more info I can provide?

Yeah, no its definitely dead. There were streaked lines across it, rebooted it multiple times. I ended up going into the bootloader and recovery via adb/fastboot and all that jazz. It eventually just would not work now.
In regards to the hot part I definitely think it was the lower part of the screen. It was quite literally half an inch away from the LED to the left. Was super super hot then once I shut the defective screen off (I could tell by the backlit light or whatever) it wasn't hot anymore after a minute or so.
Is it black/white? 16 or 32? When did you get it?

32gb black version. I ordered it immediately when they announced it that day.
mine gets really warm when i'm doing a TWRP backup then it goes into bootloop after and wont cool down. i have to force it to power off from recovery and let it cool, but i've always seen it happen. i wonder if yours was attempting to boot over and over for hours and cooked itself.....? i have a launch day black 32gb too, running Cataclysm with Franco at the moment but it was doing it on rooted stock with stock kernel
I had to send my 19 day old 32Gb Red Nexus 5 in to LG for the same reason. I was using the phone and all of the sudden had vertical lines and the bottom of the screen got burn your fingers hot. Waiting to see what LG does with my phone. The only thin I can figure is the synaptics chip which controls the screen is bad. Its the only thing in that area that could get that hot. I also noticed when I first got my phone the glass in the same area looked like it had a slight wave in it. Didn't think anything of it at the time. I'll let you know how it goes.
Is RMA/replacement applicable for Rooted and unlocked devices?
I don't believe its an issue with developer phones as long as the issue wasn't caused by something you did like brick it by flashing a wrong radio or something like that. It has to be a manufacture defect to get it fixed for free.

My device issue is related to power button. there is no software issue.
The power button is rattling since from the purchase of the device.
Hope my device gets repaired.
Like I said. Hardware issues that are production faults should be covered.

How were you using it?
Was it charging while playing games? Or just casual usage?
I've used it while charging it shouldn't be hot. I'm using a 2.0 charger too. I've done it with a case on and off. Swap it for another.
Bad unit? Mine is definitely not getting hot.
May be bad unit I guess. Was charging and downloading stuff from play store. It went so mush hot that I couldn't hold anymore. Had to lay it on down on the couch n use. @jaypeg123

I remember reading in the AMA thread about this. The combination of charging and downloading updates seem to get the phone heated up. Anyone else want to test this out?
It's an all metal body, so it's going to be warmer than a plastic phone especially during charging and first boot (optimizing apps). The body acts as a heat sink. It should never be too hot to hold, though. That's why I was asking what temperature it got up to.
Never had this problem so far.

FedEx just dropped mine off an hour or so ago.
yeah, it does get warmer than my Nexus 5 did. but it's nothing outrageous. likely because it's so thin. I'm going to slap a case on it soon anyway.
Is the bandwidth sharing enabled by default? That is known to generate extreme heat, and is only active when charging.

Just an FYI: Check your fingerprint sensor!

I just discovered a very thin piece of protective plastic over my fingerprint sensor that really wasn't noticeable unless you scratch it with a fingernail. Once this plastic is removed, your sensor will read your fingerprints so much better.
Just be sure to check for this plastic. If you already knew about it, then please ignore this message.

I had seen reviews before my phone arrived, all mentioned it but its on there really good and could see how some people could miss it.
I leave it on, still works perfect, FYI the camera also has a protector.
LOL! every device with fingerprint in the back brings a plastic screen. I left it on when i bought my LG V20, It reduces the chances for it to get scratched. Although it has been proven that fingerprint still working even after scratched
Both Google Play and my banking app refused to recognize my fingerprints with the plastic on. They'd constantly disable fingerprint recognition after several failed attempts. Now, without the plastic, they work 100% of the time, So if anyone is having issues, they should remove the plastic. Just saying.

My Note7 and Note 4 didn't have any plastic. They weren't the same type of reader as this phone though.

"In the back" didn't pop out at me for some reason. Sorry about that. LOL
My intention of my reply though was mainly what you just said: Samsung usually doesn't put plastic on their sensors. My last 2 phones were Samsungs (LG before that, and that was before fingerprint sensors were ever thought up), so I'm not used to finding plastic on the sensors.
I swear though, this V20 is surprising me several times a day. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Having fingerprint sensor issues and then finding and removing the plastic and discovering that all the issues have gone away is just one of these surprises.

Yeah i had a surprise today, it rebooted by itself (although it does reboot fast i mean literally, 25 second to turn off, then on, then totally initiate to the homescreen) but well, im going to wait 3 more days to see if it was because of bluetooth compatibility issues with my car old bluetooth fm transmitter or if it was because the phone is defective. If it seems like it is defective, i got a green light to go and exchange it already through the phone,

When I had the LG G Pro, I got one that had a bad CPU in it. It randomly rebooted, got really warm in my pocket randomly, and never entered deep sleep. I had to get it replaced because of that. Just keep an eye out for these symptoms.
It could just be a bad battery too. If so, your battery life won't be great, or the level will skip (goes straight from like 50% to 20% instantly). It could also cause a reboot too.
In any case, since you're still within your 14 days, it'd be best to just replace it if it turns out to be defective. :good:

yeah, that's the thing, the exchange can only happen if they conclude that the device is indeed defective. So, i will wait for 3 days and see what happens, if it happens again, it s an immediate replacement, and it will be a battle inside the store if they say no
Thank you!!!

This is exactly what has been going on with my V20, even the battery issue. I took it back to a T-Mo store and they did a warranty replacement no questions asked. Now just waiting for the new to come in. Hopefully this doesn't occur on the new one.
How does the sensor react to a wet finger? Is it still as accurate as normal?
