If someone with a mate8 can kindly report back on whether the phone supports the FULL camera2 api
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sdgsystems.camera2probe&hl=en Can test and report which features are supported
Really looking forward to this phone, but I've heard some bad things about the camera. I'm thinking perhaps Camera2 api support would at least let me control some of the ISO settings / etc.
Thanks a lot !
Nope.
Nope. It doesn't support the new API (now).
Did a check and it does all the things except RAW support which I am not sure of.

huawei have been making improvements, and i have to say that the camera is much much better on b321 firmware, even in dark lighting and also with 60fps recording.

No hurry. API2 has been added but now it's impossible to take low-light shots without flash. An error occurs and camera app closes.
Aftermarket camera apps do work fine though. Incredible how such errors can remain in a firmware release

SInce in the last two weeks we've seen B321, B323 and now B331, these are most likely some betas, and release firmwares with OTAs will appear later.
thats correct, based on the chinese websites that provided those firmwares, theyre all part of a mate 8 beta program, so actually its no surprise that theres no L29 firmware update and not ota update yet

i really want to buy mate 8 and i love it but i'm afraid from one thing i'm a user that root his phone and use xposed and flash roms
my question is rooting and xposed will work on this phone without problems?
and i think for mate 8 there is no number of custom roms
it is nornal that the phone is new but my question is like after 2 years when the phone stop to recieve update it will be a custom rom for it ? like Cyanogen?
Root yes ,xposed not working, stock ROM is very good with Google now launcher
I don't believe that CM is making ROMs for Mate 8
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-L29 using Tapatalk
Root works, xposed works, no cm ROM in sight but delete a bunch of bloat apps, replace them with Google apps instead, and use layers manager along with theme app for a very close to aosp ROM feel
Have to say, was very anxious to find out how Emui would be in practice. If it would be bloated, ugly, overkill, etc.
But now, after using the device for a few days, can honestly say that I wouldn't want it to be any other way! The amount of things you can change, set or extract techy data from is enormous. Don't want stock Android anymore. Don't want CM13. This is it. Emui rulez! :good:
It's fast, smooth, does it all. No regrets. Can't / won't downgrade to stock/ AOSP / CM

Most Raw-capable camera apps you can download from the Play Store won't work as well due to crap implementation on Huawei's side:

If you wish to buy a Huawei phone and need RAW image files, you have to wait for the release of P9 (April 16th) or P9 Plus (May 20th) that both offer this functionality.
Thank you guys for the reply.
That's really sad to hear then. My LG G4 recently died on me with the infamous boot loop problem and I can't get it fixed anytime soon. I might wait for reviews of the new P9 but I do like the Mate 8 as well though. I'd just have to sacrifice RAW function then =/

It's not only a matter of RAW vs non-RAW... P9/P9 Plus dual camera has been yet tested by some reviewers and defined a significant step forward compared to Mate 8 (but still worse than Samsung S7).

You are right, there's more to it than just RAW, but having RAW function is usually beneficial as you can process the picture later and not rely solely on the phone's image processor. Although if the phone's image processor is good to begin with then you shouldn't need RAW.
My G4 had RAW and I quite liked it, managed to get some good shots during my holiday before it died on me(luckily it died after my vacation was over, lol).

Not very good, no. Yes, lots of options but don't buy this phone for the camera. Much, much better alternatives (like your G4).
Hello, I don't have the Honor 6x. Is it possible to shoot in raw with 3rd party camera apps? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test If yes, are manual exposure, etc supported with 3rd party camera apps (Manual Camera)?
Does the stock camera app support raw after the Nougat update?
Yes it supports raw but not on the stock camera app. i use manual camera app for that.
i tried installing other apps like proshot, AZcamera, open camera etc but sad part is, in all of them longest shutter speed is limited to 1 sec.
Cameara FV-5 also supports raw and it gives better shutter speed but i dont think it is working on this phone.
Yes, there is but use 3rd party apps.
Untill now honor didn't include Raw format in their camera app

Hello
Is there no one who can optimize Snapchat for our Honor 8? The H8 has a great camera and it's sad to see Snapchat not getting everything out of it. Is there any developer here who can do something about it? I know my best option would be contacting Snapchat but I doubt they will do something about it.

According to Snapchat their app has issues on the Android platform itself. Snapchat is planning to rewrite the Android app for the platform. This is what happens when you're not OS agnostic.
Currently, I doubt anything can be done about it since Snapchat is a closed source app. Unless, of course, some of the Jedi hackers on XDA are able to optimize it with the power of The Force.

Snapchat is rubbish anyway.
The thing is on Android because of the different kinds of hardware snapchat uses this bizzare way of optimising per device. It limits the resolution of the video or photo taken to the resolution of the screen. So for instance even if I had a high end phone with the best camera but with a 720 or 1080p display and my friend has a mid range phone with a 1440p display he'll definitely have great quality. The Honor 8 usually takes photos at a much higher resolution and snapchat just doesn't let it do so.
Sent from my Honor 8 using XDA Labs
Some Samsung are making good photos even with Snapchat on zoom per example but with my Honor 8 if I zoom something it sucks
I don't use SnapChat, but everything I've heard about it indicates the programmers of the Android version were lazy and just take screenshots while the camera is on instead of actually using the camera to take the picture. That's why the resolution sucks and you get such poor quality when you zoom in. It is not a full resolution picture.
However, the weird spinning issue you have is likely due to the Honor 8's jacked up gyroscope. We can't use VR apps because of it. It seems to affect 100% of Honor 8's yet no update is coming to fix it. Not a high enough priority, I guess.
I read that Snapchat is going to rewrite the app from scratch on Android is this true? And when it will come out?

Yeah the app is pretty poorly developt for such a big company. But the 3D figures work perfectly on the honor 9 of my friend so i think it might have something to do with the messed up gyroscope of the honor 8. I hope honor will fix this in Android oreo but i dont expect it to happen. Sadly.

I rarely do video (almost never) on phone. So cant really tell.
But the most notable improvement was the auto HDR logic.
Previously (on .106 or .103), we wont be able to get an HDR picture without actually turning ON HDR mode. Thus when being compred to what we got on Pixel (i own pixel 2 as well so i can compare as well) we will find that P20 pro pic has less dynamic range, both on highlight and shadow area, which cause a lack of details.
On .107 the auto mode (Ai ON, Photo Mode -not night, not pro) do have better detection of what kind of scene being shot. When it detect that the highlight or shadow area are both quite strong in contrast, it trigger HDR automatically, and the result are much much better compared to older firmware result. The detail are coming out nicely, and there is less clipping on bright area.
You can notice when the HDR processing actually kicked in, by seeing, if the camera notify you to hold still the phone for a bit after pressing the shutter, you know the result will turned out better than you imagine.
sometimes it (the HDR) didn't kicked in though, i think its due to where i pick the focus area at. I have a more consistent result when i place a focus/metering to the dark area.
i'll attach 2 pictures in next post. one when the HDR automatically kicked in, and one when it doesnt.

for each huawei phone, i mostly do 2 or 3 updates (only when there's major update)

We need developers who are willing to spend a lot of time and resources on this phone. The development for this phone has been marginal and things are unlikely to change much.
The newer Mate 20 running Android 9 has to this day still not been rootable .... everything pointing to one single thing: if you buy a Huawei phone you get stuck to Emui and unrootable phone. I myself plan to stay on 8.1 forever unless root and twrp become available.
Got OTA today. The problems with sound distortion that I had when streaming using LDAC and HWA at the highest bitrate are gone. They added the gesture navigation from Mate 20 Pro but this still need work as it's not smooth enough.

I don't think there is a way to check per say, but you should see big differences in how it processes images. For instance Blue Sky or Greenery will not be over the top like in P20 Pro. The Mate 20's version of Master AI is much improved over the P20 series.
I hope this version would help fix some historical problems, especially the one with smart unlock stop working that really piss me off.
Said this, I hope at the time Huawei will release the OTA it will be stable enough to don't let me regret Oreo.
Just for fun, in Italy sometimes major updates appeared before on branded models, I think this is merely due to the attempt to please the operators.
