Picked up a 702L and realize the software on it is way outdated in comparison to the 703L. (703L has 5.1.1 on B112 vs 702L only having 5.0.1 on B006 )
1.) Any idea why the 702L is so far behind?
2.) What is the latest and greatest stock rom for the 702L?
3.) Is there any gurantee that the 702L will get 6.0 OTA like the 703L? (my 703L is currently on B205 beta)
4.) Is there a way to safely manipulate a 702L as 703L such that I can flash it with a 703L rom?
Thanx!

Ha, you made it here. Do you still have your Mate 8? You'll have to convert your 702L to a 703L. Then you'll be able to get updates. There is a thread or two on here on how to do it.

Just curious why so many tried to convert from 702L to 703Ljust to get the OS upgrade?
I am a newbie, please forgive my ignorance. My understanding is Android 5.0 is a lot better in the extended microSD memory management then the Android 5.1 where Google has restricted direct access & direct write to SD memory in the name of "security concern".
Please teach me as to what may be the benefit of upgrading to 5.1 or even 6.0?

Everyone did it to be able to get ANY updates as the 701L and 702L get the shaft when it comes to updates and the 703L gets them all.

I believe Google has messed up with 5.1 and even 6 because I read that these upgrades were a great step backward when it comes to "external" SD memory management. A lot of my favorite apps no longer work and data and files are all cramped into the internal memory. Neither can these apps be moved to the SD memory without crashing and locked up after launch. In fact in android 5.1 and 6 the "move to SD" function is no longer available.

Can someone please tell me why bother to upgrade to Android 6 (or even 5.1 if that matter)? From most of my reading, Android 5.1 and 6 no longer has direct access to SD card and thus rendering any extended memory useless. I suppose Google wants to make sure that devices with small internal memory (32GB or lower) will have to upgraded to have any much use.
I for one has cumulated over 100 GB (over400 hours of 30 minutes sessions) of professional lectures and teaching materials that are sitting in my external 128GB sd card of my Samsung Note 3 that I use regularly with Chrome cast. I found out the hard way that with a new android tablet with Android 5.1 I have no luck in using any of them.
There is a patch for 5.12.
This issue has been discussed

The app developer can implement a user prompt.
I have granted my apps this access.
Otherwise you cab move the staff to the ext-sd/Android/data folder where each app has its files

I tried the rom. I flashed my X2 to 703L so I can only fastboot flash this rom. No way to do a full dload.
Anyway, It works fine and smoothly for my X2, but my X2 is originally TW version and this is for TW X2, so it's supposed to working fine and smoothly.
I think hardware wise, there aren't any different in TW or other version of the Gem-702L version. Correct me if I'm wrong

I Converted from 702 to 703 will there be a way to go back to 702L?
If u make a stock debloatet, can u make one without huawei and google stuff as well??
A pure Rom without any supplementary Sniffing Data Stuff would be absolutely phantastic.
Nevertheless, If u d'ont, u do not, Hell on wheels, that's ok for me as well.

That would be extremely appreciated if you can do that. I'll try then to see if it converts my 702L with 703L rom back to its original form.
Huawei's TW stock rom is with gapps already, and less Huawei apps. It's basically for international use, only with a regional name.
It will take less trouble than doing a CN stock rom

So there's no one that have manually installed this Beta 6.0 on the original 702L ?,

A lot of Taiwanese users have upgraded. The feedback is nice. I don't know about other regions.
I couldn't try it because My X2 has been converted to 703L. It just won't let me get through the dloading.
======
By the way, I don't know if this is useful, but Huawei Taiwan actually provides a downgrade pack for 702L users to downgrade to 5.0 if they are not satisfied with android 6.0
Here's the download link:
http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=81363&version=323452&siteCode=tw
It's only 1x kbs, really tiny pack. It says that dload the downgrade pack first then do the full B005(5.0) dload.
Here's Huawei Taiwan download page if you want to download other versions of stock roms:
http://consumer.huawei.com/tw/tablets/support/downloads/mediapad-x2-tw.htm
Anyone who wants to try might go ahead.
I've already downloaded both package, but unsure about wether I should upgrade or not.
Just read on http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=629&t=4812210 , on that the phone is laggy for some and it runs "hot".
All gem702L runs version b006 as latest, while the Taiwan version only has b005 as their latest.
@iamhcg You write yesterday the downgrade script will also convert your 702to703device back to original 702.
Even if it goes hot, you would have enough time to be able to do the dload method to that B201 version.
Are there any advantages to use a version 201 instead 211? Only the strange thing with miracast. Maybe they bugged this after 201. Is there a difference if you go via this version here?

For what I see, the udate.app in downgrade pack contains some img files you can't flash through fastboot, such as crc.img curver.img, etc; those img files are for android 5.0 formaton.. It is a the first step of downgrading your device, then the full dload do the job.
The only thing is that the downgrade pack is for gem-702L. That's why I need to fastboot flash system img files of 702L to make it temporary go back to 702L, hence get the full process done.

The version No. in different regions are not equivalent. Huawei normally develops CN version first, then they make a few adjustment and roll out to different regions. So I'll say B201 TW is very close, if not equal, to B209 or B211.
For advantages, I do contact local Huawei guys, the response is: for regional roms, they make some adjustment to be more suited to the local environment, such as GPS tuning and some stuff. So now that gem-702L B201 is out, they suggest me to flash back.
Besides the official story, my personal experience is that B201 is more compatible to my gem-702l.
China is a huge but closed market. They setup their roms for local use (Hence, no Google services). But they put everything back to TW/International Roms. I think that's why miracast or other stuff runs well on my 702L in B201.
What I feel now:
1. no a lot of useless CN or Huawei apps.
2. complete gapps.
3. Miracast works.
4. Back to warranty of course.
5. stable.
It's basically just close to the user experience of B209 or B211 for 703L users. I am quite satisfied with it.
I think I'll stay in B201 unless the development gap between 702L and 703L becomes huge again, then I'll consider switch between models.
Now there's a safe way to get back, it wouldn't be a problem.
Thank you for this additional informations.
What do you think about the 701 users who had converted to 703 and want to downgrade for some reason.
Maybe someday Huawei could offer a 6.0 for 701 with fixed gps. I really saw an inaccuracy of 10-30 m on only gps using offroad usage and don't know if this is a consequence of my conversion to 703)
I think it could be possible
- flashing the four 702 img files,
and the universal cust b112,
Then it might be possible to use the downgrade script for 701 model, too.
Then I would install universal cust again and dload the B003 firmware for the 701.
Any comments about this idea?

Ok.. I've finally decide to update my Gem 702L to this Android 6.0, and so far this is my review of this update.
Everything run smooths.
There aren't as many shortcuts in the pulldown menu as before.
DPI changer is a nice thing, otherwise there aren't many changes.

**sorry I have to edit my own post a bit:**
I am not a developer so I don't even know what the uiversal cust does. You probably know more than I do.
I only know there are 2 quiteria:
1. you have to cheat the downgrade script that your device is a 702L for the downgrade to work.
2. You'll need a 701L-cust zip when you want to convert back to 701L
I don't know if unversal cust does the job. If yes, then there's no problem. If no, I rememeber ZeuseZ made a 701 cust file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66824282&postcount=62
I think "Channel_ru.zip" is a 701 cust in Android 5.0 but I am not sure. Maybe you want to check with him.
Once you have the proper 701L flashable cust, I suggest you to follow my steps, first to make sure you can downgrade to android 5.0 as a 702L. The downgrade pack will check if your device is a 702L. If it's not, the downgrade/dload will stop.
Once the downgrading is done, it is easier from here.
You can simply extract img files from stock 701L, fastboot flash them, format internal storage, flash the 701l cust, then do the full dload thing. Then you should be back to 701L stock.
Yes I see. I doubted zeusez script would do the downgrade. Now we know that this is indeed only a partial of the process.
It just sets the system to a cust folder for region ru and offers that file.
I would need 'eu' for Europe.
I got that original eu file from a user with a untouched 701.
But it could be sufficient to set the model number and temporary to ru, so that dload for the B003 for 701 EU would work on the next step.
I will not test that personally until HW would offer a 701 upgrade. But I am sure there will be users who want to revert their phone for other reasons.

No need to wipe first.
This has already discussed in other posts here BUT I continue to see A LOT of people waiting for Nougat OTA like Santa Claus should bring to them... (or, even worse, trying to push it in their phones... )
So, I make this post just to give more visibility to all...
I'll try to write it clear...
Don't update your Z to Nougat by OTA!
Is it clear enough?
Now some explainations...
Over the the common generic motivations (difficulties when not in full stock conditions, risk to brick it during process, OTAs that are the Evil... ), there is a strong one in this case: Nougat OTA for Moto Z (silently...) upgrades your bootloader too, from v. 90.xx to v. 91.xx...
This isn't really needed (Nougat runs flawlessly on v.90.xx too... ) BUT it introduces some tighter rules on what you can and what you can't anymore boot on it, limiting hacking and upgrading (to developed third part ROMs...) possibilities...
One of this rules is that with v. 91.xx bootloader you can't anymore boot to MM ROM!
Considering that as of today it seems that bootloader can't be donwgraded (some have soft/hard bricked their Z trying to downgrade it...), Nougat upgrade by OTA is a one way process.
If you consider that stock Nougat seems to have some bugs and issues (and, as of today, no Xposed available...!) and that some (all?) third part Nougat ROMs requires "MM" (v. 90.xx) bootloader to work, it seems not to be a great idea leave that Motorola upgrades silently your bootloader...
So?
So, at present, the best method (IMHO...) to upgrade to Nougat is that one which is described in OP of this thread: you will have a full stock Nougat BUT with older bootloader and the possibility to easily return to MM or to whatever ROM you want...
I already did nougat via ota for my moto z droid... Does this affect anything? Also how do i flash a factory nougat on my moto z droid if i want to stsrt fresh?

Considering we on the Moto Z droid don't have an unlockable bootloader and/or ability to root I don't see it effecting you negatively, other than an exploit that may be discovered for marshmallow that would allow for root. We are at the mercy of a kind developer taking on the task. I really miss my hotspot without a fee... But I can go back to my Moto X if it is necessary.

I agree with dap... proposed solution can't be used since of unlocked bootloader, BUT if I had a Droid I would have remained sticky to first SW release as long as possible because of the higher probabilities of a flaw to hack and root it...
With Nougat and newer (even more "locked"...) bootloader it will be harder...
those are a lot of steps... is there a way to just hide the nag/update screen that pops up? it keeps wanting to update or ask for a time to update or reminds me to update etc

You can't. The only thing you *can* do is tap the "Later" and then "Done" buttons. That will defer it for another 24 hours since it automatically fills in the phone's current time for the next check.
It's annoying, but it's only once a day.
EDIT: I thought you were referring to the VZW variant. If you're not and your phone is rooted, you might be able to disable or remove "Motorola Update Services". To do so, go to Settings > Apps > select "Show system" from menu (3 dots at top right) > scroll down and tap "Motorola Update Services"
I can't disable it on my VZW unit, but you might be able to. Or maybe you can remove the app via root (though I have no idea if that will cause further problems).
I too can confirm thr disabling motoservice in settings method. But you have to do it everytime you reboot your phone, it does t hurt me doing that.
I found a simple fix, get Titanium Backup and freeze that crap app, done.

True, I updated via Ota and now I can not install custom roms, will in the future have a solution to this problem? Because we all know that by unlocking the bootloader we lose the warranty, but we do this because we want to have options to install on our devices.
Could any dev have managed to fix this in the future roms?

Variants doesn't matter all moto z is using same kernel source (I have Chinese moto z)
Let me explain, I'm trying to port farm-root for moto z

If anyone knows how to deal with ndk and other Stuffs, can install TWRP with this version of farm-root
But I'm trying to make it easier and here's big barrier called SELinux

Hope it happens. The phone (accidentally?) Downloaded the update and is now asking to install. I'm afraid one day it'll just automatically update on it's own.. I can't seem to find where the system update got downloaded to, otherwise I'd delete it
Plan to pick up a shield tablet and I'd like to run PS4 remote play on it. So far as I understand now (with the latest PS4 firmware and app), this is only possible with a rooted android running xposed and a Sony framework.
Does anyone know if this is possible on the Shield running Nougat? Can xposed be flashed on Nougat?
I've searched and most of the threads I find are long before the nougat update.
xposed doesnt work on nougat yet mte there working on it but its alot more complicated than other firmwares
OkThanks. I was worried that was the case. Edit: just realized this is true for more than shield, xposed is still in progress for all of nougat. Could be a while.
So when the tablet arrives I assume it will be on MM. Perhaps I can prevent the update to N and root it out of the box. Now I'll have to read on preventing the update I guess.
If you root MM, is there an update path to stock nougat later?

once you root you will have a unlocked bootloader and twrp installed so you can go for a custom rom or stay stock, but you can block updates in developer menu or just simply ignore them. your tablet might come with LP installed aswell mate
I just discovered that Huawei has removed the bootloader unlock function on their site. Yet I still got a Huawei GR5 2017 (BLL-L22).
As a poor person who just wanted to customize his phone, could I ask for help as to get an unlock code for this model?
My IMEI is 862494034508483.
Can someone help me by giving me an unlock code for this? Thanks!

You'll have to try a paid service.
There are DC-Unlocker and HCU.
You could also try with ministry of solutions – they unlocked my 6x for 4$.
If ever I do this, which I dont think I could do (since having $4 / P 250 is something I have to save penny by penny), I could switch my branding to 6x? or have a root? or direct upgrade to either nougat or oreo?
Still stuck on BLL-L22C636B130, with no updates being given by the updater.
Well… I did not see you got a BLL. Don't know about that phone exactly, but there are manny models on the "we can unlock"-list by ministry of solutions – so unlocking bootloader should be possible.
Also I guess root and twrp wouldn't be problematic, since the phones seem somewhat the same.
But if 4$ is too much for you, you maybe should ask yourself, if you really need unlocked bootloader.
Manny customizations can be achieved by installing a different home screen launcher app (Microsoft Launcher i.e. is free and brings lots of features).
I mean – what do you whant to customize, what do you expect from another android?

Root and Greenify is what I want to use mainly. followed by disabling unwanted apps via root.

Playstore greenify site sais "even without root!".
Disabling Apps you can do with just hiding them - wich should be possible w/o root. Why would you bother, when they're hidden…
Why you need root else?
Disabling system app via root will not make them autostart, thus save me more battery and it wont update. Greenfiy has the option for root, whch allows me to make system apps (preinstalled apps) sleep as well.

Most backgroud apps don't draw that much power – most power usualy is comsumed by display backlight. So dimm that, also choose a full-black background…
If you need root, there's probably no cost free way to achive it – full power over ones own device seems to be luxury nowadays.
Not advocating huaweis no-unlockkeys policy – but it is how it is.

Uh. Just a minor correction. Using a black wallpaper won't help save battery. If your device has an OLED display then a black wallpaper saves battery. Since we have LCD, it doesn't make a difference.
Also, to unlock your bootloader, as the previous person said paid is the way to go. However if you can't then try two things. Either write a really nice mail to Huawei or visit one of their official service centers and demand they unlock it.

Yes. Right. Was a bit tired when I wrote that .
But – choosing non-animated background ist an advice one could add. Probably jaceleon does not have an animated wallpaper, as he's into battery saveing – but just as completion ^^

Just got the bootloader unlock code via DC-Unlocker. Now I can root this, assuming I find a method suitable for BLL-L22 Nougat (or Oreo, if there is one here).
Thanks!

Both methods are available. You can root easily. What's your Android version?

I have BLL-L22C636B394, running EMUI 5.0.3.
I would want to try installing a rooted stock rom, preferably Oreo (loved the floating dock of EMUI 8). But if only Nougat is available, I'm okay with it.

If you want stock EMUI 8 is available. If you are up to custom flashing you can flash Pie ROMs. Both of these require EMUI 8 so let's start with that. Download the firmware for Oreo via Firmware Finder. Search for BLN-L22 HNC185 or something. And download the three ZIP'S. Next download HWOTA for Honor 6X from XDA
Search for it

So I could still have both TWRP and root on this stock Oreo/ Pie ROM? BTW, Found BLN-L22HNC636, C675 and C900, but for me to use this, I have to rebrand?
