Samsung Smart Switch not working - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have smart switch installed on my pc with windows 10 and i try to backup data from my g920f running latest 6.0.1.
Smart Switch is stuck at "To complete the backup using Smart Switch you need to temporarily allow some permissions. Allow the permissions on the connected device"
There's no prompt on my phone. I tried all kinds of reconnecting, restarting but still this dialogue.
What can i do regarding this?

I don't know if it will solve it but try clearing cache and defaults of Smart Switch on your phone. If it doesn't work, try reinstalling it.

Mine is the same.
Smart switch says requesting permission but phone does nothing

having the same problem since 6.0.1, hope it gets fixed soon

can you at least restore from 5.1.1???

I solved this by factory resetting the phone, which primary disables the purpose of the smart switch backup (i wanted to backup the sms, call log etc. to restore them after factory reset). However, i used smart switch mobile app on my phone and used OTG storage to backup and restore. After factory reset, the prompt for allowing permissions appeared instantly on my phone. I hope it will be fixed in a future smart switch update.

same problem since 6.0.1? Any ideas? I dont want to do factory reset....

Since my 6.0.1 update
Hey y'all I have got the same message as well and i really don't want to have to reset the phone.... it is such a pain to re-set up!!! surely this is a bug. anyone knows how we can report this to Samsung??? Surely an OTA patch can sort this no??

Does anyone have solution for this problem. I am having the same problem. Smart switch won´t make backup without some permission. But whatever I do is not helping. I dont want to make factory reset just for that because I got MM update today and don´t have time for that .

Same here on 6.0.1

Anyone figured this yet?
Can see the phone and it's contents in Win 10 but Smart Switch wont let me back up after today's mm update.

Are you on MM? If so you need to manually allow permission as MM always ask for it and for any single app! Lollipop didn't behave like that, but MM yes!

Via the application settings of the Smart Switch app ?

So, now we need to install Smart Switch mobile as wel? It used to work with only the pc program. Sounds like just another datamining 'feature' I'll just stick to myphone explorer.
*And without anything changed, it magically is working again

I reset my app preferences and it worked after that. I'm running 6.0.1 unrooted.

I have there same problem since upgrading to 6.0.1 on my S6. I have the latest version of Smart Switch 4.1.16032_18.
This version works fine with my S4. So I guess there may be a problem with the Android 6 update.
Hope they fix it soon.

I think this is a Fix ( with thanks to "mike.garside92" )
I Have now got my Samsung S6 using Android 6.0.1 Backed up to my Windows 10 Pc using Smart Switch
There is no need to load the" Samsung Smart Switch Mobile APP "
On the phone, Tap Settings - Applications - Application manager. Then Tap "more" (top right of screen).
Then select " Reset app preferences ". A window appears saying this will reset your preferences etc. tap reset.
Then reboot phone. When you next connect your USB cable to backup to Smart Switch on your Pc,
A window will appear on your phone, asking to allow Access, Tap allow and you are away.
Hope this helps Guys

You can also do a small restore (for example call logs or messages). This wil trigger a permission screen. After this you can backup your phone using Smartswitch.

I've tried everything I can think of. Even done a complete wipe and fresh install of rom. I'm on HTC One on cm11 nightly (17/6) but i was on M7 release and had same problem.

I have a very similar issue although I don't see any error message at all, I can pair the watch with the phone using bluetooth and I can change the watch face from the Smart Connect app, however when I load any of the apps via the play store they install but do not transfer to the watch.
I am running CM11-20140622-UNOFFICAL-golden 4.4.4 on a Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini 8190N. I have tried resetting the watch, de-installing and reinstalling apps and smart connect but they still don't work. I connected the watch to a stock Android phone and it works fine.
Any ideas would be gratefully received and yes I am a real newby!
I had this on a entirely stock Note 3. I:
- cut BT on both devices
- factory reset the watch
- fully uninstalled Smart Connect and SW2 (force stop - delete data - uninstall)
- rebooted the phone
- installed official Smart Connect
- installed official SW2
- paired the watch
and I'm back in business
I'll give the patched SW2 software another try later.
Hope it helps!

Well I tried everything and it still did not work, so I flashed the latest cm11 rom after uninstalling the smart connect app and unpairing the phone. ito my surprise it has sprung into life with only one app not working (Sony walkmate) and I can do without that telling me to walk further each day.
Thanks for the pointers.

[HELP] I want to recover my files from a locked S6 before factory reset

I have had my S6 for just one month and the fingerprint scanner has stopped recognizing my fingerprint. The device wont recognize my backup password or google account either. I am pretty sure my backup password is not incorrect and I know my google account information is correct as I still have access to it on my computer. I am able to use android device manager to call and send messages to the phone, but android device manager no longer has the unlock option. I have contacted google directly, but they were unable to provide any solutions. I have also contacted my service provider Sprint and Samsung with no success. I did not register with Samsung find my mobile prior to the incident. I don't have any of my files backed up to the cloud. I recognize that factory reset is the only option now, but I would like to create a backup or at least rescue some of my files before the reset.
I have wifi turned on, but USB debugging is turned off. When I connect to Samsung Kies or Smart Switch, I am prompted to unlock the device.
I have looked into using TWRP to recover files from the device, but I have read that the program no longer works with the S6 since the latest update.
Is there any way to pull files from the device while in recovery mode? Are there any other options available?
I am willing to compensate anyone who is able to help via PayPal

Alcatel One touch idol 3 ROM Flash help

Hello everyone,
I'm a new user of XDA forum, i'm desperate because i tried a manipulation and it failed, let me explain: i'm 17 years old and i'm not a android developper or something else who now exactly who to do with android devices. So one week ago i decided to pass my alcatel one touch idol 3 who run on android lolipop to android marshmallow. For that i root my phone, i tried to open bootloader, and to instal TWRP but for that i firtsly need to unistall the update of alcatel with this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ido...ide-how-to-return-fastboot-t3201077?nocache=1
After manipulation my phone boot normaly but after the boot it shows me a grey panel and it's marked "Encryption unsuccessful To resume you phone you must perform a factory reset" I did it but it change nothing i still have the same problem. If someone can tell what i could eventually do to put back my android OS. Please help me!!!

You don't have to enable usb debugging for mobile upgrade q to work, the phone just needs powered off at start of process, when it tells you to plug in phone it should place it in download mode

Have you seen this post... If you can get your phone into download mode mobile upgrade q should reload firmware... Download mode hold volume up and down and power buttons at same time, when you see red screen release all buttons then hold volume up until black screen then run mobile upgrade Q... Looking back at your previous post if you force into download mode, you should get past the 5% point...

samsung galaxy s6 won't get recognized by computer so impossible to flash Rom

I have a massive problem, after days of research i have found NOTHING..
Ok so i had a rooted samsung galaxy s6, i was getting a bit tired of having it rooted (didnt really serve any purpose) so i decided to unroot via the superSU app then i restarted my phone and it hasn't been able to turn back on ever since.. it'll show the logo over and over again when i try to turn it on. I tried wiping the cache partition, wiping the data, rebooting it every single way possible, no luck..
So i decided i had to flash the Rom using the latest version of Odin but the problem with that is that now my phone isn't getting recognized by my computer i have tried installing the proper drivers, changing usb cables, ports, computers.. I even tried installing samsung smart switch and kies but nothing works.
If anyone knows how to solve this problem please help.

Have you tried to get into download mode and run the emergency recovery feature via smartswitch?
I had the same issue with an old S6. The emergency recovery feature asks you the model and serial number of your device and immediately recovers it when you have a bad software restore.

If you can get to recovery mode, you should be able to get to download mode. Serial #s are easy to find with a simple google search. It will depend on what version of S6 you might have.

Hi, I'm using win 7/32 and I did not need usb drivers. We restarted the windows, in F8 I turned off checking the drivers' signatures and then started the windows. On the phone I enabled the developer options and the usb troubleshooter. Then I plugged the usb cable (on) to the computer. It will start downloading and installing the drivers. You have to run all the options for connecting the phone to the computer (usb configuration), from simple loading to MTP, PTP and MIDI. When all the drivers have been installed, restart the computer and turn off the phone. At me, (Cubot x 18), I have not removed any battery, neither sims nor microsd. Just with the phone off. When you restart your computer, start the sp flash tool, choose MT6737T_Android_scatter for what you need, choose the option and activate it, and finally plug the phone off to your computer. From now on, everything has to go ... That's the method I use. I was frankly amazed that she was running without a battery in the phone; and all the way to him, just stopped.

Hello, I think you need to set a new APN. To do this, you must go into Settings-Wireless & networks-More-Cellular networks-Access Point Names. At the top of the bar you will have to press "+" and you will need to configure the new APN according to the mobile phone operator from which you have the SIM card you are using. Once configured, you'll need to save and check it as an asset, the one that your phone will use. That's all. And there would be something else. At my side, I can not catch 4G, it gives me connection error. So I set it on 3G, from -preferred network type. Hope to help.

Thanks mate. The correct apn had been set and it shows 4g connection at the top but simply refuses to connect to mobile data. It all says its switched on etc. When I type +*+*4636*+*+ into dialer screen to bring up phone settings it is there that it says mobile data disconnected and it simply will not switch on.
I've also factory reset the phone and it won't connect to mobile data then either. When I try to change the radio band it crashes.

Wi-fi going? Perhaps there is something on / off in your phone that limits your access to your mobile data network (billing cycle, data usage, roaming, or anything like that). Frankly, my knowledge is limited, I do not know what else it could be. If wi-fi works, try updating it, you may be lucky.

Thanks mate. Nah me neither. WiFi does work but no joy with mobile. There's no update available and a factory reset never cleared it. I think the issue lies with the radio band. It simply crashes the application whenever I try to access it.
Not receiving incoming calls when in VoLTE
Since my carrier is activating VoLTE through its network
I cannot receive incoming calls. If my phone receives only the 4G signal (without VoLTE) the phone works perfectly. I tried another sim card of the same carrier...same issue! If I put on the phone a sim card from another carrier it works fine, but I think this carrier is not using VoLTE yet. Using the *#*#4636#*#* menu I switched off "provisioning VoLTE" option...but after a few seconds it turns on again automatically. I do not know yet if the problem is linked to my phone, carrier or a problem on Android. Does anybody can help me? Thanks in advance
PS: my phone is running native Android 7.0 and it is updated with the latest firmware version
Try a drastic solution. Reflash your phone. The problems are with MTK firmware structures, MTK firmwares usually results in lost IMEI or NVRAM issues.
I am a fan of anything MTK phablets, tablets, phones and owned mostly Lenovos about 7 devices, all rooted with TWRP. My advise is to reflash the phone (since we already have the firmware), if it doesnt work the first time after reflash , you probably need to reflash a few more time and you will find that after every reflash there will be random functions and apps broken (after the next reflash the functions and apps are OK but others broken) until you will have all 100% OK. That is my experience with MTK SoC.
Good Morning!
Can you tell me if this procedure works on the new model, the P20? Uses Oreo 8.0.0 with Kernel 3.18.60 ...
Thank you very much
Me too

I've also factory reset the phone and it won't connect to mobile data then either. When I try to change the radio band it crashes.

Hello guys,
I've the same problem with my X18. Everything works fine. My SIM is active and registered and in the notification bar there is a 4G-icon, I can make some calls, receive SMS and so on. But if I use mobile data, the connection will be interruped after few minutes and in the settings dialog the SIM card is disabled.
Reboot, changing SIM slot takes no effectes. This error is reproduceable.
The device has 3 APN-Settings. Is there any oppurtunity to delete these settings, so that I can receive new APN from my provider or to define it manually?
Best regards
Dan
