At least for me, the z5 version of it shows the older cloud photos (as old as 6-8 months ago) under yesterday or last month, same as actual pics taken yesterday or more recently.
At the same time, my old m7 works fine, it has a slightly older version of the app: 1.11.0.110496109
Anybody else? What would you do to fix it?

been having the same issues with my photos app ever since i started using it sometime last year (on an s6 edge though). I used to just live with it, but it's been bothering me ever more now that it's mixing this weeks photos again with photos from over half a year ago. uwotm8.
oddly enough, this thread is the only thing i've found online so far on this topic.
my strong assumption is this must be an app bug (or.. "feature"). when I log into photos.google.com, everything is in perfect order. furthermore, all photos list correct capture dates on my device. another interesting fact is that in the photos app, I am only seeing this issue in the regular "month" or "day" view; if i zoom all the way out to the "monthly/yearly overview" mode (whatever you wanna call it; the most zoomed-out view), everything is in perfect order again. and as soon as i zoom back into a month, the app mixes things up again.
now i've noticed that there is a "group similar faces" feature in the app which was turned on. I turned it off for now, but havent noticed any immediate differences; will be waiting for the next sync or phone reboot, but I doubt this solves it. first this feature sounds like it's supposed to group photos of faces only, second it's mixing winter in toronto with summer in venice; similarity level 0.
how is it that this app gets everything right, except for plain sorting of photos; it's the equivalent to that smartwatch in the old spy kids 2 movie: does everything from calls, tv, whathaveyou, but can't tell the time. good job
I had this problem with the flickr app/autodownloading as well. I could never get it to work properly.
I also had the face grouping enabled, I guess by default. Would reinstall and give it another try. It's really bothering that it only happens to very few it seems or people don't notice or just don't bother.

Ok, so after having worked with this for a while, I thought it was time to share my findings
I love the idea of a smart watch and a smart phone working together
I've had a Pebble with my iPhone, but for me, there were a few things missing,
YouTube has had some great videos and on the back of these, I've found that the iPhone can in fact do quite a few things with the Gear 2
After first pairing the watch with the iPhone (turn off and then on the Bluetooth option, and then check the box marked 'Make visable', then your iPhone can find the device.
So, with that done:-
Phone calls work between the devices ( find someone with a Samsung device, ensure your contacts etc are on that device, even temporarily, and you'll get your contacts and contact photos on your Gear2)
Notifications unfortunately don't work....BUT, Siri does...kind of!
If the devices are connected and Siri is activated, the sound comes through the Gear speaker.
So, with the new 'Hey Siri' feature, you can activate Siri by speaking into your watch and using it that way.
I find that I can ask Siri to read my text messages, send text messages etc etc etc. now bear in mind, 'hey Siri' only works if there's power to your iPhone, and I have a juice-pack and so my device has power. Yes, a long winded way of using it, but it works for me.
I use my gear 2 for all the fitness elements and heart rate, and it works for me.
Also, The official Google app works through the watch, Google Maps reads out your directions to the gear 2 too.
Now you may say that Apple are making a watch, and you'd be right....but I don't want to pay £300 for a watch!. I was lucky enough to get a mint condition gear2 for £70, and the added bonus is the battery is getting me a good 2 days battery life.
So, if you're interested in having a go, all this also works with the Gear 1 which can be picked up even cheaper.
I'd welcome your comments
Ok....you sold me on it. I too, have and iPhone 5S and was considering a Gear 2.
Nice one
Let me know how it goes
You can, of course, always sell it!
One thing I meant to add was that I use the camera an awful lot too.
Yes, again there's lots said about cameras and mega pixels etc etc blah blah, but, I find it very handy for 'quick' pictures, and the 720p videos cool!
I periodically connect it to my computer to put/change music etc and that's when I drag the pics & videos of it.
They then automatically fly upto to Dropbox ready for distribution whenever I wish.
I use the Dropbox Carousel app for photos ( just can't get on with Apples Photos Cloud thing...it's still too flaky for me), and so I've got pictures wherever I need them!
I was even on the Samsung website today looking at the additional watch bands and picked me up a bargain strap for just £14!!
They have some nice designer ones too
So for me, it's working nicely right now

I love it but it is a pain in a way because when I pair it with my iPhone using the bluetooth tap trick, the time zone is always 2 hours ahead of my time zone ( I am in the Eastern Time Zone )
Other than that, besides the limited functionality due to me having an iPhone 5S, I still love it. Hope someone figures out how to make them talk to each other in the near future. :highfive:
Hmmm not sure in the time zone thing
I'm in the UK and all I did was ask someone to pair the gear initially to get the right time
As daft as it may sound, you could always pick up a beat up old S3 to use as a'hub' for your gear..
Well there is always this thread here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-2/help/tizen-mod-3-time-zone-option-t2989414
Maybe we can figure out how to get it working for each other. LOL!!!!!!
Others have said that they have gotten the gear to work with Caller ID with their iPhones but I have not figured it out. Any ideas PG?
Just wanted to start a list of the best apps that we think are available for the S2
Calculator Plus+ is a good one, it's what you'd think, a calculator, and it works. It is optimized for a round screen. So crazy that Sammy never added a calculator as a stock app.
Sent from my SM-N920P using XDA Free mobile app
That's a problem... The list is quite empty. I am returning this thing because of that and also because of:
I owned first Gear as well as Gear S in the past and quite frankly Samsung is going backwards with their watches.
There is one Pro in this one - it is good looking, I like the design.
Well - 1/2 point for the rotating bezel. It is kind of cool but I am so used to the touch controls that barely used it.
The rest of review is pretty much all Cons:
1. Lack of speaker - ok, some say it looks silly to talk to the wrist but sometimes it was useful. Why removed if all previous watches hat one?
2. Lack of apps - seriously, there is NO useful app available for this watch. I had plenty of apps on Gear S and none of them is re-written for the round watch.
3. Vibrations are barely sensed - I had it set to strong and long and miss half of the notifications
4. Screen decides on its own if it wants to light up when the notification comes. Not reliable at all
5. Previous models had option to come back to the last used app after the screen turns off, very useful for timer, stopwatch, music control. This cames back to the watch screen always. Try to skip the tracks from the watch when you have to turn the dial to the music app every time.....
6. No auto brightness. Seriously? Go out - make the screen brighter by hand. Come back, dim it by hand...
7. Straps.... out of 4 halves I found in the box (2 to make a long strap and 2 to make a short one) I was able to attach 3 of them, the 4th would not fit. And I guarantee you that after couple replacements the mount will break....
8. No sleep patterns tracking on the watch
9. Battery - that's another screw up. Samsung advertises 2-3 days... Right...I liek to have the watch set to always on. Gear S had about 40% left at the end of the day. This garbage had 18% at 11pm last night....
10. No integration with Google Now - no cards, no reminders to be set... I thought Samsung finally understood that S-Voice cannot compete with any assistant available... I guess they are too stupid to get that
11. No integration with Google Maps - Here maps are great but on the watch it is a disaster, completely useless, slow, chews through the battery.
12. No way to choose if one wears it on the left or right wrist hence when you wear it on the right the buttons are above the watch and you cover the face of it while pressing.
13. no night clock mode while charging - all you see while being charged is a blackscreen.
There is probably more flaws but I either did not discover them or do not remember. Generally the watch is going back to Best Buy and I will wait for Moto 360 Sport or LG Urbane 2
And with Samsung phones going backwards as well (S6, Note 5) Samsung lost a customer (I own Note 4 now and I had Note 1, 2 and 3 in the past)
Wow, so that last post was mostly off-topic lol. Interesting points...just not relevant for this specific thread. Better to post that in a gear s vs gear s2 thread or something like that

Haha. I've seen his post there also. I guess he REALLY wants people to know how he feels!
Wow..clearly he felt his review thread wasn't enough but now he has to post his review everywhere. Move along... .
Well back on topic... A fun little app to play with is Xenozu. It's a YouTube app that let's you search and watch videos. You do have to have a Bluetooth headset attached but it works when linked to wifi. It's more novelty then anything but fun nonetheless.
Wow can we boot that guy for hating so much, it may not be the best compared to a phone, but that's because it's a watch....plus my gear s2 does have a daylight mode, I walk out side and it will adjust itself. Also, am able to use my watch with the face always on and have about 45% by end of day, I have to constantly play with it for it to die.

So, what's that little hole on the side between the buttons? The one you talk into for SVoice.
2. Lack of apps
It's brand spanking new... give it time
3. Vibrations are barely sensed
Subjective... I can feel it just fine on soft/weak/low, whatever
4. Screen decides on its own if it wants to light up when the notification comes.

5. Previous models had option to come back to the last used app after the screen turns off...
I'll skip this one because I have no clue what you're talking about
6. No auto brightness. Seriously?
Outdoor mode is automatic, you don't have to touch anything and it goes into auto brightness. Seriously
7. Straps
Mine come off and snap on just fine and are very solid. Perhaps you're doing it wrong?
8. No sleep patterns tracking on the watch
S-Health, oh and 24 hour activity tracking
9. Battery - that's another screw up. Samsung advertises 2-3 days...
Are you analyzing "day one" usage, straight OTB during fiddle and "hey look what I just got" time?
10. No integration with Google Now
It's Tizen, this has been known for quite some time now
11. No integration with Google Maps
Read comment for #10
12. No way to choose if one wears it on the left or right wrist...
WUT???
13. no night clock mode while charging
Big f*ing deal... you're wanting it to track your sleep patterns anyway right?

1. That's a mic not a speaker. Speaker is on 3G version
5. Previous app should be an option when reactivating watch. Viable point imo
8. As it stands, there is no auto sleep log. Should be addressed by Samsung. S-health even tells you to add a wearable for the function to work??
10 & 11. Google needs to be adopted for the watch to succeed under android I feel
12. See the point, but analogs never adjusted to which arm the watch was worn on. The user needs to adapt
Sorry to be short, it's late ;b
I assumed he meant mic and not speaker since he describes "talking to the wrist"

Back on topic: Parkmobile just appeared in the app store for the GS2, at least in the Netherlands. Great app for Parkmobile users.
Notifications for Gear s1 & 2
The app "notifications for gear s" is a must have. I am able to reply to facebook messenger and see my Google now cards. It's awesome.
I ony had my watch for less than a day, so obviously I'm still discovering new stuff, but so far I found:
- Calculator (free! and does the job) - this is a samsung app
- News Republic: I was pleasantly surprised to see they have a (free) companion app for the S2, this has been my main news app on my phone for ages (very customisable and looks nice, I love it)
- Gear Pong: just because why not
The Samsung Gear store is terrible by the way... Why with the stupid ugly watch faces flooding every category??? Do some clean up Samsung!

"I am Alive" by Kittikhun Yodrak is very useful. It's basically a toggle for screen always on. No idea why the app is so big though (7.5 MB)...

So today was my little girl's first Christmas. After taking about 15 minutes of video and frame grab snap shots on my Pixel (unlocked, but not yet rooted) we moved on to other things only to find that neither the video or the pictures were saved.
I have to assume that these are sitting in temp files somewhere. Anyone have any suggestions?
There is a small thread going on the Pixel support forums on the topic but not much in the way of support traction.
Pixel: video recorded but not saved

If there was no error message, then you may be OK. Did you touch the Albums icon at lower right in the Photos app (as opposed to Photos)? Depending on how you configured cloud backup for the Photos app, pics and videos may not show up under the Photos icon.

Thanks. No error messages. No sign of the video or photos in either the Photos app (albums or main photos area) or the camera's built in gallery browser. This is the first time this has ever happened in the 2 months I have owned this phone or in the years of android phones I have had.

Maybe someone should test for bug that happens with long length videos.
That's the only thing I can think of as to why it happened.

Thanks.
It was a longer length (15-20 minutes) with multiple pauses and frame grab photos along the way. Both the video and frame grabs were lost. I'm not entirely sure if I even exited the app as I took a number of photos after I took this video and they were fine.
It doesn't seem to be a common issue but sadly I'm not the one who has posted this to Google's support form and had this happen on their kid's first Christmas.
I purchased a Depict digital art frame last year. I received an email last week that the company is going out of business and closing their doors. The Depict Frame runs on a custom version of Android. Currently the frame can only be controlled by their app. I would love to be able to install other apps on this frame because the features provided in the Depict app are very limited. If anyone could help with this I would appreciate it.
I'm going to open mine up
Mine has stopped working completely now. I think their cloud infrastructure back end is turned off or no longer operating. I've tried contacting various people that used to be at the company with absolutely no success. Very disappointing that they didn't even think to publish some specs or open-source the software (if allowable by license).
Anyhow - I'm going to rip mine open this weekend and try to hack into it somehow and put a different distro on it.
Have you made any progress?
Anyone else tried opening one up?
Depict Frame
I have opened it. Now that they are out of business and we are left with the hardware I wish they would have made their software open source. I have been trying to see if I can drive the LCD with another computer (Raspberry Pi) or something more powerful. Looks like it is a proprietary interface. The LCD is a chinese LCD so if we can somehow figure out how to drive that LCD that would be quite useful.

There is a facebook group - Depict Users group
Depict guts
I opened mine. The control board drives the TCON using 8-lane v-by-one. I found a manufacturer on Alibaba that makes a 4K LCD driver board which also supports 8-lane v-by-one and hacked into in place, bypassing Depict's main control board. I was able to get it to display text and images from a Raspberry Pi, but the text looked mangled at high resolutions. I don't know yet whether the problem is in how I have HDMI configured on the Pi, or whether the LCD driver board is fundamentally incompatible with this BOE panel. Still exploring.
My frame quit displaying any uploaded art since yesterday. Anybody figure out how to get around this horrible situation.
My frame also quit displaying uploaded art. I'm interested in any information on being able to continue to use the frame (with my own art at the very least).
Also, there was mention of a Facebook group for Depict owners earlier in this thread, but I was unable to find that group.
Depict Frame Working
My frame quit working several days ago. I opened my app and went the set up frame procedure. It took two tries resetting the access code and several times entering my wifi information before the frame accepted everything. I had to reset my wifi router to get the app to accept my wifi information. The frame is now working and I have been able to upload my saved pictures from my iphone. Hope this works for others !
My Dipict Frame is working again after a reset...
Like other's in this thread, my Depict frame stopped working a few weeks back (a few weeks after they went out of business). Specifically, my frame stop going into sleep mode based on its schedule and was stuck on the last picture it displayed. Based on Solivita's June 5, 2019 post, I went again and reset my frame. To to this, I took a paper clip and inserted it into a hole that is just above the power button on the side of the frame. I held the paper clip down until the frame reset (about 10-15 seconds). The first time I tried to set it up using the app, it failed to connect. But I power cycled it (by unplugging it) and tried again it and it worked. It is now working better than ever!!!!!
Depict Frame
This is exactly what I want to do. Have you made any progress on this with the Raspberry Pi or any other computer.

iOS Update broke the App
As we all know, Depict has gone bankrupt and shut down the company. As Frame owners, we are now on our own. Here is my current situation: My Frame had been working fine and I was having no trouble showing art downloaded from the Art Institute of Chicago (great stuff) Yes, I was having some issues with the Frame's clock feature, and was forced to reset it a few times. But it was working fine. I use an Apple iPad Mini 2 as my controller. Recently, Apple sent out a new update to the iOS and I updated the iPad. BIG MISTAKE! Something in the Apple software has broken the Depict App. I can reset the Frame and go all the way through the setup until the Frame says "Ready for Art". But the same iPad Depict App that I just used to set it up from the Factory Reset now cannot see the Frame on the network. Yes, I have checked and double checked that they are on the same network. The Apple iOS update broke the Depict App so that now I have a useless Frame in perfect condition. I'm hoping that, at some point, whoever has access to the software for the App will discover this and fix it. That seems to be my only hope.
Any luck?
Months ago I reverse engineered the protocol for pushing images to the frame over the local network. (To enable slideshows of my own photos, and as a hedge against them going out of business.) Due to a series of unfortunate events, this morning my frame updated itself and it looks like they removed that functionality somewhere along the way (probably when they added slideshows). The cloud services appear to still be functional for slideshows of my uploaded pics, but who knows for how long.
So, did anybody have luck with the Pi? What was that display controller? At this point I’m likely to crack open my frame to see what I can salvage; any learnings from people who’ve been there would be appreciated!
They pushed a final firmware when they announced their closure. I don't know if anyone noticed, but it now runs the fan on high, continually. This happened to both of my frames. The fans continue to run even when in sleep mode, which is pretty annoying. As of right now, I'm still using the app to display artwork and cloud photos, however, I'm considering opening one of them up and disabling the fan. Ultimately, I'd love to get a pi into this thing and run it from there. I'm down to help put a tutorial together if anyone figures it out in a logical way.

YES! this crushed me. The app works I'm fine with the final functionality, but the fan noise from the final firmware update made the same noise issue for me. I was thinking of blocking some/most of the air holes...

Like you, I updated my phone and encountered this issue. There is a placeholder for the app on my new phone, but its not the actual app. I did backup and transfer purchases to iTunes on my mac when I switched iPhones. I found a copy of the .ipa app file for the depict app in the "mobile applications" folder inside the "iTunes media" folder, which is under the "music" folder. However, it indicates that the app is version 2.0.1 dated 7/19/17. Based on the date, I know this is not the latest version of the app. In fact, when I tried to copy the app to my iPhone, it said there was a newer version on the device (probably the place holder). Based on some internet research (see https://appadvice.com/app/depict-digital-art/908226911), I believe the lastest version of the app was version 3.0.0 updated on April 6, 2019. Can anyone that is the latest version of the depict app?
Also, for those that were able to extract the app from their backup, were you able to get this (or a later) version of the app? If so, was it actually in the backup, or was it somewhere else?
Lastly, if anyone has the latest version of the .ipa file, I would be very interested in getting it.

I have created an .ipa file (using iMazing) for version 3.0.0 (the final update) of the Depict app. I was able to then use that .ipa file to install the Depict app on another iPhone (using iMazing).

Absolutely. I'm a newbie on this forum and don't see any way to PM you. Thoughts? Maybe you could create a burner/disposable email address that you could reveal to me in this thread and I can send the (105MB) .ipa file there. Once you get it, you can delete the email address as it may be a SPAM-magnet after appearing in this thread.
So, I just noticed something REALLY weird today and I don't know what to make of it...
I installed a new app on my phone (Lyft) and it asked me to setup a profile photo. Okay, no problem. I click the option to select photos from my existing collection and it takes me to the gallery to select a photo. I'm scrolling down, looking for a good photo when I suddenly come across photos that I did not take. There's about 30 of them and they look like they were taken at a Energy Conference in Beddington, UK on November 26th. I live in Washington State, USA and have not been anywhere near the UK and my phone has not gone missing or been out of my sight for the last few weeks. This is strange and creepy. How are someone else's photos on my phone?
I start doing a bit of investigation. I close the Lyft app and open my gallery app on my S9+. I scroll through all my photos, but these stranger's photos are not showing up no matter how I sort the display settings. I open up another app (Uber) and go to change my profile photo. I opt to choose from my gallery and there's the stranger's photos again. I notice that the file name, file size and date of the photo is provided in this view, so I connected my phone to the PC and ran a search for some of those file names and came up with nothing. I searched my phone using my file manager app and also found nothing.
Someone on Reddit recommended I try using my email app to send myself the image so I can investigate the details. This worked, but only deepens the mystery! It seems like the photos were taken with an Olympus Digital Camera (not even a smartphone!) and the date taken was from way back in 2006!?
At this point I'm out of ideas. I have no clue why these mystery photos are on my phone and can't find out how to find/delete them or how they got on my phone in the first place.
It's so freakin' weird! I'm sharing a few screenshots here in case it helps anyone else identify my issue. If anyone has thoughts, please share them.
P.S. My phone was purchased new over a year ago. If anyone cares, I posted this on Reddit before coming here seeking additional help. You can see the Reddit thread here:

wonder if they're embedded in the apps?
One possible reason is that it's just downloaded by some other app, e.g. Facebook downloading photos from a post that you came across. If you don't remember anything related, did you ever have anyone else using your phone?
The Samsung gallery is written by Samsung while the system file picker (called DocumentsUI) is mainly written by Google, so they might be having different strategies on what photos to hide, e.g. Samsung thinks Facebook photo download directory shouldn't be shown, while DocumentsUI doesn't, so it's entirely possible that you can only find the photo via picker.
