[LG][VS870]Two questions: GPS icon, custom recovery - General Questions and Answers

Hi all, newb to this forum, seasoned Android user here.
I couldn't find a device specific subforum for my phone, so I followed the link from the sticky posted by a moderator.
I have two questions regarding my device. First off, I've already rooted it successfully via RCT Nerfer and then Framaroot. Latest SuperSU installed.
Running Android v4.1.2, Jellybean, stock ROM w/ Xposed and GravityBox.
First question. How do I hide the GPS icon displayed next to the network icon? It's not the blinking GPS blip that's displayed on the left side of the status bar when GPS information is being transmitted. I mean the icon that is constantly displayed when GPS is enabled, located to the right of the staus bar, grouped with the network and battery icons. In my opinion, I would like a less cluttered status bar. Any way i can hide that icon without turning GPS function off?
Second question. Has anyone determined a permanent custom recovery solution for this phone? I tried an installer for touch enabled CWM recovery that was in the form of an APK. It was originally designed for a different, but similar LG phone, and I read somewhere that it would work for my phone. So I tried it, and upon booting into recovery, it was there. However, I wanted to make sure it was permanent. Rebooted my device again, instead of recovery, it just initiated the default factory reset. I was infuriated after having to reinstall my apps and such all over again. Since then I haven't bothered trying again because I'm tired of my phone being factory reset. I also read somewhere that it might be caused by my phone's locked bootloader, though I don't know if it's locked or not, as I haven't attempted any procedures on the bootloader.
Thank you in advance, and please don't crucify me over these questions. I am not a stranger to Android, but some things do elude me.

1st: gps issue, edit systemui.apk with 7zip, remove icons.
2nd: flash twrp as soon as you boot into custom recovery by adb or whatever suited..

Thank you, that information was helpful and quick to the point. Greatly appreciated.
Already eliminated GPS icon. Now I'll work on getting TWRP running so I can create NANDroid backups. They will come in handy in the event of some unforseen problem.

RC6.75Z STOCK- FULL WIPE installed!

hello all, i sucessfully installed the RC6.75Z STOCK- FULL WIPE rom found on this forum for AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377087 and all seems ok but for one issue. the only icon i have in the notification area is the battery percentage. i have searched to best of my abilities but cannot find an answer. have looked at all settings on the phone but again no luck in getting icons to appear. thanks in advance for any help or advice
Read the full thread
Read the full thread there are a few other zips that you need to install... Ones a battery zip (I think.) another a status bar etc its with in the post if I'm reading it right.. Hope that helps.
i originally followed the guide step by step wthout a single issue other than the status icon issue, i reinstalled the rom was able to get the indicators to display by not installing the STOCK- NONWIPE-UPDATE
RC7.3 STOCK UPDATE. the guide i found indicated i needed to install them both. did i miss something?
You should be good installing the 6.75Z alone without any issues, RC7.3 is just an update. Other than these 2 you don't need to install anything for normal working.
I am using the same rom and don't have any issue. If possible try to follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446566 guide provided.
It did fixed some issue on my phone.
What seems to happen to people with that rom is they install the main rom and updates all at one time, what needs to be done is install the main rom, let the phone boot and run media scan, once the phone has finished that reboot in to recovery and install any updates. Status bar should be there for ya then.
If you are using the ics launcher, you should be able to pull down the status bar like you pull down the window. also, there is a setting that you can get rid of the 2nd bar somewhere in the settings.
Try also installing Go launcher and see if you can see the status bar there.
i am following this ROM since day one and i did not have this problem.

[GUIDE] To Asking Questions! (Have a problem? Start Here!)

How to Ask Questions!
If your messing with your phone, eventually you will have a problem you cant solve on your own. We have all been there, its just part of modding your phone. but if you give some time and a little patience, most of the time its easy to get fixed.
FIRST: SEARCH!!!This means try searching a thread if its too long, or searching the entire G2X Section of the forum. (and we can tell if you really searched or if you just say you did to get rid of the people yelling at you) If you see nothing that relates to you, or you have tried all of that, then you can make a post, BUT FIRST...
Stuff to Try Before Posting:So... your having a problem with your phone... well there are a few things you can do to help fix most issues:
Go into CWM and clear Cache
try this first, it really does help solve most issues from within a rom
Make a Nandroid Backup and clear data
just do this as a test, make a backup and clear data. check to see if the problem still exists, if it fixes it then its something you installed/did to the rom that caused the problem.
if not then...
Try flashing a new ROM
even if you don't like it, even if you can never go back to gingerbread after ICS just try it to see if it fixes your problem. If it does then you can decide if ICS is worth the issue your having.
Clear App data/Reinstall App
If you having an issue related to a specific app, try going into settings and clearing that app's cache and data. if the issue still exists try uninstalling it then reinstalling it after a reboot.
If none of these things helped you, then its time to make a post.
Things to Include in your post:If your having an issue, many of us are willing to help to get it resolved, but first, you need to give us some useful information.
A good checklist to include in your post is the following:
Current Rom
Current kernel
If you have done ANY undervolting or overclocking.
If you had this problem before (either on other ROM's or previously on your current ROM)
If you wiped Cache
If you wiped Data
If you tried installing another ROM
Any other things you already tried (BE SPECIFIC!)
the more you include in the first post the better, too much information is MUCH better than not enough.
If you think the issue is related to a specific ROM, try posting in that ROM's thread in the development section, but please don't spend too much time there. If nobody can find a simple fix, move your discussion to a new thread in the Q and A section, don't clog up the Developer's thread with a single issue.
Once again, the more information you give us the better, and if you don't post the above, someone will most likely ask you those questions, or tell you to do those things first (or they just might ignore the question).
If you see any typos, or think of anything i could add or improve on please let me know.

I have the same problem and I can't find any way to fix it I am going to post a new thread about the problem.
Hi all...
I was watching, reading and was excited about cm 14.1 for my LG g2 which was running on lollypop.
What a mess I created for myself. Will explain step by step. I I would be thankful if anyone can teach me get out with it and back to LG rom lollypop.
1. I rooted my phone with one click tool.
2. Then I installed Twrp through play store app.
3. Download cm 14.1 for lg g2. The as well as open gaps.
4. Next thing I did rebooted to twrp recovery and clean it after taking back up. But was not able to flash cm 14.1. Also loaded gapps7. 1.
5. After so many trials nothing happened I even updated twrp to 2.8
6. Then I found twrp 3.0 and tried to flash it.
7. Suddenly my phone came to a stage Fastboot.
8. My computer stopped detecting it.
9. Then I re plugged it into the USB of my computer.
10. I found the partitions are there. But no system is there.
11. Even I don't know to sideload it.
12. Lg flash tool is not able to flash it.
I request if someone know the way to flash it with lg roam. I L be thankful.
Can anyone email me steps to do to get out of it.
My email is [email protected]
Thanks

[Q] Rooting and stock: Official and Custom device status

Strange thing...
I successfully rooted with the Framaroot method.
I think it's one of the most discreet rooting method since it doesn't require to modify the recovery nor to flash anything with Odin.
I think it just uses the Exynos exploit in some way, and since my stock firmware JB 4.1.2 (N8000XXCLL3) is not one of the more recent ones (that probably fix the exploit) I could root with it.
After that I could happily see that my device status was still "Official".
I checked that well after rebooting more than one time. I also checked that the status was "Official" also in "Download mode".
Anyway, after a couple of days of normal usage (I didn't do anything strange with the root, apart from accessing some system file) I saw that my status had changed to "Custom" .
My suspect is that there's some Android service that periodically (yet infrequently) checks for a rooted device, changing the device status accordingly if it finds some trail of root.
Stranger yet is that, upon rebooting once again, my status has now come back to Official
So... does anyone knows better what triggers the device status from Official to Custom and back to Official when there's no modification in the stock Rom?
Exynos exploit changed mine to custom, tried 3 times to get rid of it, always went to modified then custom after a few minutes/ hours. I'm cool with it tho, doesn't hamper what I do with my note. I've seen others reporting similar scenarios

[Q] OTA update starts then stalls out

Hi been looking at a lot of the threads about the OTA and making it work and I haven't seen anyone with the problem I am having.
So I have gotten S-Off with the Java Card, Installed CWM Recovery, flashed root, flashed tether and extreme power savings.
I also installed AdAway and updated the gps with FasterFix. Also froze a bunch of apps with Titanium.
Those are the only things I can think of that have altered the "stock rom" but I could be missing something here.
So to install the OTA I have tried the following
I defrosted the verizon bloatware and revereted AdAway and the GPS
I reflashed the stock recovery from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708291
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723112
those "stock recoveries" are different file sizes but both of them produce the same following error:
The OTA starts normally and the recovery starts up and says Updating Verizon system or something like that... The progress bar gets about a third of the way there then I get the recovery screen.. sort of like this image:
http://htcevohacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/htc-evo-recovery-mode-4.jpg
but where the triangle is inside the phone icon.
From there nothing and I have to reset the phone and then get the message that the OTA failed.
The only things that I can't undo are the extreme power savings and the mobile tether.
I have also looked at this tread to find out the exact stock recovery for my edition and they don't have it specifically hosted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
in that thread it has instructions to look up the specific recovery based on CID and mine came up with 1.12.605.11 which seems to be nowhere to be found... So bottom line I am not sure if the recovery I have flashed from the two other sources is the exact correct recovery.
Anyone else is this boat or can help me out.
I have the same issue as this. I also have the power saver on and the wifi tether update. Sounds like it might be something with one of those.
This method worked for me.

[Q] Acer A700 system bar missing

I bought an Acer A700 tablet off ebay, was supposed to be new unused condition. Booted it up and it had no system bar at bottom of page. That means you can't get out of any app you have to reboot, useless. Thru reading on site and exploring this tab i found out it has super user installed on it and on bootup in the left hand corner it reads "boot loader ICS-MRI 7173de1 (unlock mode)" every thing on the tablet seems to work except no navigation bar, no circle in center, and no status info no bar at all full screen. I have played with this thing been on Acer chat and they say hard ware failure. That is before i new it was rooted, i guess that is the reason the update he wanted me to try did not work. I don't know if i try a new OS system if that will even work. I am 68 years old and this is my first android tablet, new ground for me. Most every thing i read is above my knowledge, would appreciate any advice i might just try it. thanks ahead of time
demo mode
Is there a demo mode on this acer A700 and if so where to look thanks

Ok, so whoever you bought it from, told you an outright lie. The bootloader is unlocked, and, it most likely has a custom OS installed on it. You can check this by going into "Settings" "About Tablet" and seeing what is installed on it.
Or,
The previous owner had root access (obviously) and went mucking around with the SystemUI.apk and goobered something up (most likely). In fact, I would guess he had CM installed and didn't like the way the nav icons were (in the center) and tried doing something about it by modifying files he had no idea of what to do.
The most simple fix, would just be to install a fresh version of either a custom ROM, or, revert it back to a stock factory ROM. Both of which are relatively easy to do.
MD
EDIT: Other things to look for now that I think about it. Check your applications and see if any of the following are installed.
Launcher (Nova, Go, etc) These sometimes have an option to disable the system bar (Nav Bar).
ExPosed Installer - This allows loading of custom exposed frameworks mods that several have the option to disable the System Bar (nav bar)
Any Nav Bar/System Bar "Hide" application. These at one time were useful to open more display real estate for games. (not many use them anymore)
Those applications you can safely uninstall through Settings/Applications, then reboot.
Other than that, I can't think of anything else. Will wait till you tell us which OS is installed (CM; Cyanogen Mod, PA; Paranoid Android, etc)
Oh, and one more thing. Stop talking to those folks on Acer Chat. This is a software issue, and not a Hardware issue. This I can promise.

"Demo" mode, is not a configurable option on most devices. In reality, it is a custom software from Acer that is installed for Store Display purposes. Several items have been left out of the build, specifically to prevent casual customers from mucking things up.
This is generally fixed by installing a full ROM.

You are correct, i will never talk to acer support again. I am getting ready to install a rom if i can figure out which one to start with. It has Adroid Veersion 4.0.4 Kernal version 2.6.39.4+ Boot loader ICS-MRI 7173de1 (unlock mode) It has superuser app installed, I did download an app which gave me a navigation bar that i am using till i can get a rom installed. My problem is that looks like i need to upgrade this 4.0.4 ICS before i can install the up to date roms is that correct. Thanks for helping be get this straight this is a lot for an old man to take in lol.

4.0.4 should be the original ICS ROM. If you get it installed, it should get you a locked bootloader, and hopefully offer the upgrade to JellyBean (4.1.x I believe)
Don't worry about age, I'm not far behind you
Have an issue, just PM me and I'll see if I can help.

Well, 4.0.4 ICS (ice cream sandwich) is the OS these tablets were shipped with. Then, it generally, after some days, would upgrade to 4.1x (jelly bean) Gotta love Google and the names.
Now, considering your tablet has SU (Superuser), and and unlocked bootloader, means somebody mucked with it, hence the missing NAV(Sys) bar. Dude undoubtedly mucked around with things.
As I stated before, this can happen due to several different reasons. How it got to that point, who knows.... In testing ROMs, Ive had this issue by installing a different SystemUI.apk that didn't match all the other files, Or, by "dirty" flashing a ROM without wiping /System partition.
Basically, to get it back to a completely stock A700, you will need to install a stock Factory A700 ROM. the 4.0.4 version. Should be able to find one quite easily, but if not, let me know and I'll help.
Basically, you rename that Stock ROM to "update.zip", copy it to ext SD, then boot the tablet holding "VOL+ then PWR and it "should see the zip and start to install it. "Should".
If not, then I can walk you through the steps to install a custom recovery, and we can do it that way. Acer, with JellyBean, actually has a somewhat recovery menu. Not sure if the 4.0.4 has it or not. Been too long. It may just look for "update.zip" and try and install it.
So will just have to see how it plays out.
For my own, I use "fastboot" so install image files to revert back, but that's just me. Also I have an A701, so it wouldn't do you much good
Same hardware so to speak, except for the 3g part and some different files.
