Gear S2 Shortcuts / Helpful Hints - Samsung Gear S2

I searched, so I don't think I am duplicating this. I am inviting everyone to post their best, or most often used shortcuts for the watch. Any little known facts or settings that you find really useful or handy.

I know you can press and hold the power button to get to Airplane Mode quickly, which is nice. But I would love to hear if anyone has discovered a quick way to toggle on/off connection settings such as BT, GPS, etc. What about others? It would be nice if Samsung made it possible to swipe down to toggle specific settings, similar to Android.

To take a screenshot hold the home button and then swipe from left to right. The screenshot will appear in the gallery app.

Hold the home button until the power menu appears. Keep holding the button until the screen goes dark. The watch will reboot.

Complex, animated watch faces can hog resources even when the watch is dark, interfering with playing music and using S-health and 3G all at the same time (which really pushes the little device to the limit).
Switch to a simple face if planning to use a 3G version standalone while exercising.
Discovered this trying to stream Milk Music using a BT headset while doing 5000 steps of exercise walking. I was using the Mechano watch face.

Could I turn-off phone automatically?
Turn off requires root privileges. We plan to add them both, but for now no power off is not an available action

I would like to use the triggers
- disconnect from specific wifi network
and
- leave location (fence)
Now you can only trigger on a network or a location (I'm guessing on connecting or entering, it's not really clear in the software)
I'm assuming they'll be added in the near future?

Thanks for the suggestion! We already have Wi-Fi/Bluetooth disconnect in our development environment. Location exit is also on the list for new features. So your requests should be met soon

Remove Ads?
Just installed the app, I'd heard about it yesterday and just didn't get around to installing it. Like the look and everything so far. Question: I hate ads, is there a plan to do a Pro version or within the app pay to remove the ads on the bottom?
I've got no issues with paying for a good app and I think this is definitely a good app, but ads drive me crazy and I'll just uninstall any app rather than use it that doesn't give me an option to get rid of them.
Thanks in advance for any reply! Great work otherwise!

We are going to add an in app purchase to remove the ads in the near future. We wanted to provide the app for free yet cover some little costs like github hosting and developer accounts. I know they can be an eye sore at the bottom, but ideally you only need to see them once or twice. After we are set up you shouldn't need to come back into the app for much.

It would be nice if you could make use of Activity Recognition. If "Driving", then disable Wi-Fi. Is this possible? Maybe in a feature version?

We've started playing with activity recognition. We just want to make sure its stable, accurate, and battery safe before implementing it.

Would like to see the option to use secure settings as an action. Great app. Thanks!
Great app with good User freindly UI unlike Tasker which is too confusing.
Just 2 issues,
1-Why there is no Ringer Volume option in Action ? it seem it is basic thing one would like to do lower the volume of ringer at home and higher outside. I see all other volume option except Ringer.
2- I want to set a location base Triger but the map never load i only get the white page,i see GPS icon kick in my status bar for 2 sec and then disappear but no map loaded,. When I open Google map app it is working perfectly. any idea what is the issue ?

Hey thanks for trying the app. Call volume is the ringer volume.
Do you have network connectivity? I'm not sure why it wouldn't show the map. Unless it was not connected to the internet or the apk was signed with a different cert.

Thanks for the quick reply, You should rename the Call volume to Ringer Volume is people will get confuse. Because Call volume is some thing else it is the volume that is during a call.
I do have the internet, I am at home with WIFI also the google map app is loading normaly. I will check if it is not xprivacy which blocked something it shouldnt

Did you save the Location Trigger? Is there one listed in the Profile'sTrigger list? Is your GPS enabled? How about WiFi and Cell Location? If your device can not get a lock on your location there is no way for it to fire. Once a Location Trigger is saved we should handle the rest.

[Q] car radio google now

Hi,
I have a Kenwood DPX405BT, now I was wondering if I could bound a button as play/pause, next, previous with long/double click to activate Google Now on my rooted LG G3?

Using Tasker it should be possible to set up google now to start when any of these commands are received.
I hope this is of help, give it a go and let me know how it turns out. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a message
I tried serveral things with other apps I came across https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kober.headsetbutton it worked great with headset but isn't compatibel with bluetooth tho... I can't find another app to get this to work.. and i don't know witch profiles I have to set.. i have a task to start google now tho.. So I would like to double press play/pauze button and start google now
How about: the trigger being your phone's media volume, when it is 0 it opens google now? I assume you volume dial in car affects phone volume when connected? You could set this up in tasker easily

Or bypassing the stereo all together... You can set up google now to open by voice command on any screen, this would be ALOT simpler

Step goal and sleep tracking?

Hi,
can anybody tell me how I can set another step goal (its set with 6000) - I cant find it on the app at the phone and also not on the gear... But it must be possible to change it, or??
And another question: Can the gear s2 track the sleep? If yes, how to set it or do i need another app for it?
Thanks a lot
Frank
In the S health watch app go to the far right and open the settings menu and you can set your step goal in there.
Thanks for your answer, but it works not! I had only the choice to select the source of the stepcounter (gear or phone).
If I set it to phone I can change the goal - but when I switch back to gear it back again to 6000... And I have again no chance to change it...
Crazy...
As said above, you simply go S Health settings on the watch to change it.
I got it
Thanks for your help...
Or go into s health on s2 and scroll using bezel all the way to the right to Settings and select 2nd option - Step Target, and change target there.
That's exactly what had been advised in the first reply, isn't it?
What about the sleep tracking? For now it would seem they have forgotten it.
How about how to change from phone to gear for soirce? I know its there but can't seem to find it.
Is there anyway to switch function on the S2, i find as per my Gear 2 it is inaccurate (prefer using my mobile) and it consumes battery.
(Reopen Question) How to Change Pedometer Target / Steps Goal on Gear S2
While this was answered over a year ago, either it's changed since then, or I'm misunderstanding.
I can find several S Health widgets, but I can't see the S Health APP anywhere on the S2.
There's even a Pedometer widget, but turn the bezel as i might, I don't find the three-dot menu icon, "More", or "Settings" anywhere.
The Data Source is set to the watch, not the phone. But clicking on S Health even in the Apps List just brings up the 24 Hour Activity Log.
It's a bluetooth-only version of the watch, so there's no carrier involved. I'm using it with a Note 4 on Verizon.
The software version on the S2 ends in EPK5.
Thanks for any help!

I'm running the same version
Launch the S-health app on the S2 - not any of the widgets. Rotate the bezel to the right until you see the Settings "tab". Click on the button at the bottom. Scroll down to Step Target.
Rob
Must "Start" to get to Settings
As I said in my earlier post, starting the S Health app on the S2 simply brought up the 24 Hour Log (circle showing goals for sleep, serious exercise, light exercise, etc.) Rotating the bezel did nothing.
However, if you press the "Start" button on that circle, THEN rotating the bezel will bring up various screens (or "tabs"), including Settings!
Thanks for the help.

I just had to reset my S2 because I got a new phone and I'm having the same issue and reading every forum and Forum post out there and I cannot find how to change this on the watch. Phone is at 10k, S2 is at 6k. Wat them both at 10k. This is so aggravating. These instructions worked like 6 months ago but there is no changing the step Count on the gearas far as I can tell. I'm so annoyed right now LOL the search continues

How do you toggle between current app and watch display etc?

Loving my Gear S3 Frontier but still a bit confused about using it on occassions! Can anyone tell me is there a simple way to:
1. Keep an app you are currently using on the display?
For example, while walk around the supermarket, I was using the excellent "My Notes in Gear" to work through a shopping list I'd created previously. Problem was that when the watch display turned off if I raised my wrist up to look at the screen it frequently had reverted to the watch display. Only way i could get it back to my shopping list was to select the apps view and tap on the "My Notes in Gear" app again. Surely I must be doing something wrong and there's an easier way to resume the view of an app you are currently using?
2. Easily toggle between watchface (time) display and current other app in use?
Say I'm tracking a hike in S Health but I want to check the current time. Is there an easy way to toggle from S-Health to the watchface, and then quickly switch back to S-Health tracking again?
Having had the watch a couple of weeks now I'm sure I should have a handle on these things by now, so maybe I'm just being dumb - or maybe these things are not as easy to do as they should be?!
Really, NOBODY has a solution to this??!!

Thanks for the tip. OK, maybe it's not rocket science but to me it seems very strange that there's is not a standard quick way to click back to a current open app. After all, on your mobile phone it's very easy.
And is there any easy/quick way to toggle between watchface (time) display and current other app in use, as when I just want to quickly check the time? Yes, I realise now I can optionally set my double-tap on the home button to view current app, but what if you prefer to set that to normally open another app like S-Health or S-Voice? Sorry, but I really think this is an aspect of typical use of a smartwatch that the designers have not fully thought through. Surely the ability to easily switch between your watchface and another app you are running should be a standard and quick operation?!
I'm having the same issue. And yes, I've set the home button to revert to my previous apps. I'd prefer, however, to raise my wrist and have the app that I was currently using still be there. For example, whenever I'm out on a run and I'm listening to music, I have to double press the home button, and select the application in order to begin toggling to the next sound track. Similar situation happens when I'm using the notes app. Does anyone know of a way to "lock" the current app so that it doesn't go away when I put my hand down?
Worked in the previous Gear 1&2&S. There are a setting for movement activation : Last screen or Clock. Very usefull, do not know why Samsung removed this setting in the Gear S2/S3 ???
It does this on Galaxy Gear too.
It makes much more sense the app you're using is just there, no need to press any button :-/
Thanks for the double tap tip.

Media output to: <toohard to change! + Notification LED substitute

1 week with the OP7 Pro and overall pretty happy. Staying with Pie version for time being.
Until this phone, all my phones for more than 10 yrs have had an LED for notifications. If I had a choice, I would keep this [efficient, effective low-power] method in my perfect phone - but, looking for a functional compromise and haven't found what I'd like - which is a power-efficient always-on, or at least almost always-on color-coded, visible with a glance dot(s) on the screen that informs me of notification(s). The problem with stock is the 1-time nature of the notification. I've tried a few apps for edge lighting/ambient notifications, but so far, none providing what I'd like - the closest so far is 'Pulse Beat'.
Anyone else have issues with screen-off notifications? Any suggestions?
Second issue is sound - volume control and where the audio goes. Aside from what I find to be an awful placement of the volume control buttons, and having really hard-to-push buttons at that, I am constantly fighting the phone over where 'media' output should go. I like to use LG Tone (around-the-neck bluetooth with retractable buds - I have it on, but only can hear it when I put bud(s) in my ear(s)). Sometime I'd like all the audio to go to the headset (when need to use phone handsfree, for example, while biking); other times, say the phone is on a table and I'm not using or near it, I want the notification audio on the phone speaker. I would like a quicker way of changing this (shortcuts/widgets?) as well as ability to set some rules/automation for handling this. Anyone have ideas/suggestions here? (I've used the app 'Automate' in the past for some things, but I don't see the control for the media output to < x >.
Thanks!
For the first issue, I don't have a good solution either.
For the second issue, when you change the volume, there is an icon on top of the slider and if you tap it, you can change audio output device right there.

Also, as far as automating the changing of audio devices, I have long since given up on trying to automate that. Only Samsung seems to have a good audio control panel for these kinds of things.

Yes, I have been doing that, but it's really awkward for me - First, the volume buttons are extremely hard to reach & operate - still can't get used to them. Then, because the pop-up is on the curved part of the display, it's even harder to tap the exact right little spot in the pop-up and do it fast enough before it disappears altogether - it is very annoying.
Still trying to figure out these things -
Is it really the case that the only way to bring up the ability to change where media output goes (bluetooth/phone speaker) is by pressing a physical volume up or down button, then tapping the tiny icon to bring the pop-up list, then tap the device you want the sound to go to? That's the only way? That's just incredible.
Is this stock Android behavior?
(Until this phone, I never got beyond Oreo 8.1)
Probably not the solution you are looking for, but...
...have you considered getting a smartwatch?
Mine handles all my notifications gracefully.
I do feel your pain, because I am in the same camp and it was always nice to take a glance from across the room and see the blinking light plus figure from the color what app it was.
