How's everybody doing?
I'm looking to order an unlocked Z1 Compact either tonight or tomorrow and am wondering the best and most reliable sites to purchase from?
Also, I imagine I lose the Sony warranty with an unlocked Compact because it's not available in the US market right?
Is it a wise idea to buy a SquareSoft 2 year warranty from Ebay or Amazon? I've been trying to research them and am getting mixed results including a lot of complaints of them scamming and semi-scamming on claim attempts, but often the bad reviews and experiences are the loudest and most glaring.
Anybody have experience with any of the following re-sellers?
Negri Electronics
Wireless Everything(through Amazon)
Cells4U
Techno Trading House(through Ebay)
Never-MSRP(through Ebay)
Open to other suggestions of well of course, but I really need to get this in by say Monday, so not looking for any super long wait international shippers unless the price and reliability of the seller was superb, but even then any issues probably mean international return shipping on my dime so I'm a little sketchy on those options.
Sony won't sell them direct to US customers...
Thanks in advance guys, really excited to get this phone!
Is the Z3 going to be available through the official SonyStore like the Z3 Compact? Any rumors or articles? I previously bought it on ebay but I'd like a factory warranty.

I got no rumors or articles to back this up: no. Sonys latest flagship phone will not be sold in the Sony store, it will exclusively be sold on ebay.
I went to T-Mobile Store today and I was told T-Mobile will carry the Z3 Compact. I found that to be a bit odd because the Z3C made it to the SonyStore, thereby indicating a lack of exclusivity in Sony & T-Mobile's agreement.
Also, I called the SonyStore in Manhattan and a sales rep told me they may be getting the Z3 unlocked but it hasn't been made official yet. But you have to be careful when hearing things from sales people. From my experience with buying computers and cars, I generally know more about the product than the sales people.

Better to get from TMO (14 day exchange period) or whichever carrier you are on, they replaced mine without hassle 3 times due to various defects. If you buy from Sony store, you will have to deal with long waits for warranty repairs and maybe end up with a refurbished one just like any manufacturer would do, just for small defects.
I need D6603 due to the various LTE bands. My goal is to get my next device to last me 3-4 years by having NFC, expandable storage so I can download offline Nokia Here maps, and lots of LTE bands to use in both Europe and the US. I hate carrier branded phones for this exact reason - every carrier wants to keep you on their network by restricting hardware.
Given all the issues with the camera and bending, I'm also considering the Note 4. The only problem is the price!

Z3 is not a bad device, just wait for the new batches. All manufacturers at one time or another have had launch production QC issues. Better yet wait till Feb/Mar, the Z4 will release and is a much bigger upgrade than the Z3.
I was thinking the same thing - wait for the Z4 to come out after MWC and then buy the Z3 because the QC issues would be worked out and I could get it for cheaper. However, I came across this article stating that the Z4 is going to be a 5.5" QHD phablet. This means the new Z4 can be considered a different segment like the iPhone 6 and 6+. So, QC issues worked out, yes. Cheaper, no.

I actually bought the D6603 on ebay and then returned it due to the camera issues. The water coloring effect was unacceptable to me. Waiting would be a good strategy to see if Lollipop can provide the fix.

It popped up in the SonyStore last night but the MSRP is $680. If you can't register as a student/don't apply for a Sony credit card, it's better to go through an authorized retailer.

hmm interesting...maybe there is some validity to the in store rumor after all...
that $50 mark up sucks though..and its sad that outside retailers can sell it at a cheaper price than the manufacturer.
i wonder when the shipping date for this is going to be pushed back to..haha...the shipping system for the z3c is a complete mess right now, ive seen my order status change 3 times since yesterday
Hi everyone,
I want to share my journey with the Z3, and the experience with buying from eBay, specifically from a seller, techno.trading.house (Steph, Ed). I bought two brand new Z3 (D6603)--a black one for myself, and a white one for my girlfriend. The order was smooth, and the phones came in pretty much brand new (open box though) with their plastic peel-screens on the glass, untouched. After using the two for a few hours, I noticed that my black one had a defective sensor (photo). The seller advertised "hassle-free" exchanges/refunds, so I reported the defect and had the black one exchanged right away.
After a week, the new one came, the same brand new (open box) condition as the previous phones. However, there was a slight manufacturing defect with the USB flap--it closes completely at a slant (photo). I spelled out the issue with the seller, and here was how it went:
SELLER: I'm sorry to hear that! We will certainly replace it for you, I believe that your phone would be damaged underwater if that or any other flap was not closed properly. (I also do strongly suggest to avoid wetting the phone just in case). Please return the phone to...
ME (after 2 days delivered to them): Hi, have you receive the package yet, and have you ship out the new phone?
SELLER: Your return has been received. If you had chosen to receive a replacement, it will be sent within 2 days. If you have opted for a refund, it will be issued within 24 hours minus applicable restocking fee.
ME: Do you have tracking info? Thanks!
SELLER: Our records indicate that we have already sent a replacement. You have reached out to us to let us know that the replacement has the same issue. In order to avoid another occurrence, we recommend that we proceed with a refund for this item. Please let us know if this is okay.
ME: Sorry, I am not sure what you are saying. Are you talking about the previous replacement or the 2nd replacement being shipped out? I am currently waiting for the 2nd replacement. You said "sure" on the second replacement last week.
SELLER: We are talking about the previous replacement. We believe since both- the original phone and the replacement phone- has had the same issue, that a refund might be best. Let us know if this is ok.
ME: That is not correct. First phone had a defective camera. Second one had a manufacturer defect on the flap. You agreed for the second exchange, so I am not sure why you are backing out now? I need the phone as I have been using an old dumb phone for work for a week already.
SELLER: I'm very sorry for the confusion. I just read back through the emails and you are indeed correct. We will have your replacement unit shipped today. Here is your tracking number. Again, I am sorry for the confusion. Have a great day!
ME: Thanks. I just hope the new one does not have any defect--I will be checking it. If it's not shipped out yet, anyway you can inspect these? Thank you.
SELLER: Hello, Not a problem.

So the 2nd replacement came (third phone), and the phone came in a used/open condition. There were no plastic peel-screens on either side of the glass and the USB wire was laying in there without its plastic wrappers. I knew immediately this was used, so I began close inspection of the phone. I found that the power button had a noticeable dent on one side, as if it was dropped on a table before. At this point, I don't know what to do with the phone. I have summoned the seller to see what they plan to do with this situation.
It appears that the seller recycles their returned phones and try to sell them as new, or whatever it is. I am extremely disappointed with this seller, and I want others to know so they may not fall into the same trap.
I checked the current feedback, and it appears someone had the same situation (photo). Go figure!
To me this sounds like a fair seller and a picky buyer. 832 positive reviews and 6 negative ones in a month is a ratio I would buy at if I wanted to save a hundred bucks by buying without factory warranty.
It could have been an honest mistake. I doubt he purposely gave you an opened one, just work with him to solve the problem. eBay is much harder on sellers than buyers and he would ruin his reputation if he did it on purpose. Looking at his rating I would say it was an honest mistake.
I understand if he wants to refund you, he is just trying to cut his losses. At the same time it was your misfortune to get a bad device/s. Since this phone is known for cosmetic/other issues as its in early production you are better of buying from Sony/carrier making replacement easier.

I'm sorry to hear that. It was really a frustrating moment you went through. If I were you I would probably be really angry.
If you want, just buy it from Sony store. I got mine and it's perfect so far (except some cosmetic minor faults).
I bought two phones directly from the same seller. The price was cheaper on their own site vs eBay or Amazon. Both phones are perfect. They came in non sealed boxes. I've got no complaints.

I may be a picky buyer, but who wouldn't be when you receive a defective product, and even worse when you get a used one on your third one. Feedbacks mean jack when you are on the short end. They are only good for initial decision about the seller, hence I trust them like you would too.

Yeah, I really regret not buying from Sony store, or even T-Mobile here. At this point, I might just say screw it, keep the phone, and move on with my life. Maybe the Z4 will entice me in few months. :good:
I purchased 3 different Z3 D6603 from Techno Trading, Never-MSRP, and Sony Direct all off ebay.
Techno Trading shipping a Central America version of the D6603 (White) to me and it had no seals whatsoever on the box (US Charger). This model would not show LTE indicator until I flashed a generic TFT. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in Spanish but quickly changes to English. Seller Feedack: Shipped very quickly but using subpar shipping materials. Shipped from Miami.
Never-MSRP shipped a Central Europe version of the D6603 (Copper) to me and it HAD seals on the box but also included a Sony Screen Protector (Non-US Charger). This model had the LTE indicator from start. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in English. Seller Feedback: Shipped same day and was packaged very well. Unfortunately, they are located in Houston so I had to pay tax.
Sony Direct shipped a Generic North American model of the D6603 (Green) to me. This one had seals on the box but didn't include the Screen Protector. LTE shows from start and includes a US Charger. Plastic on the front and back of phone is totally different than the other two. Its hard to describe but the other phones came with a very very thin plastic protector. This model shipped with much thicker protectors on front and back (still meant to be removed because they have tabs on the side). Additionally, the other two phones were inside a cellophane bag but the this model was not in cellophane. Shipped from Sony in Romeoville IL. Shipped within two hours of purchase using FedEx for free. Unfortunately, Sony charges tax everywhere. Packaged well but not great.
My point...
Sony packages models different based on their intended destination. It might not be that you ever got "open box" devices but rather they were intended for an area which Sony (for whatever reason) chose not to use seals.

That is interesting. Before buying from techno, I bought a white one from tropical_mobile (in which I sold quickly due to being D6653), who stated they were located in Tennessee, but shipped from Singapore. However, the phone was sealed with two white rounded "sealed" stickers on the box. The phone also was sealed in a clear plastic slip and had protective screens on both sides.
This whole Z3 deal has been pretty bad luck for me. Maybe it is not meant to be. But good news--the seller techno.trading.house got back to me, and is willing to refund me $20 for the dented power button, or do another replacement. I'm planning to take the refund, and live with it as I am sick of all the exchanges. Who knows, the replacement might have even weirder issues.
If you spend $500 plus on an item, you the buyer, have every right on this planet to be as picky as you like.
Nobody has to settle for anything less than perfection.
So no, you don't have to accept a defective camera, or flap or indeed a previously returned phone.
As I mentioned before but was lambasted in another thread, Sony may be using premium materials, but they are certainly not using premium construction. Not when some people have to go through six boxes in store to find a unit without light bleed and gaps.
I myself had two exchanges within the first two weeks. My first unit was simply not waterproof and had a leaky flap and my second one didn't charge on the magnetic dock and now I have light bleed but no energy to fight it anymore.
It's almost as bad as an iPhone. All my iPhone friends have had multiple exchanges... Some as many as 5 in a year.
Sent from my D6603 using XDA Free mobile app
More recent feedbacks to prove my point.
stop accepting being called a picky buyer.... ur paying top dollar for the phone, that said u should receive a product good for the purpose, if the camera doesn't work its not good
if the phone isnt water proof it isnt good
if there is a dent in the design it should state it before being bought. so it's not the buyer nor seller (purposely) its a unlucky sale.
I purchased mine at t-mobile. I paid 100% upfront despite being with t-mobile and they unlock it on the spot. When I registered with Xperia Care (sonymobiles product registration) I entered my IMEI and it has till Oct 2016 on warranty.
However on the 2nd day of owning the device The bottom speaker stopped working and was making a static noise. I went to my t-mo store I purchased it and they swapped it out. I didn't even pay a restocking fee. The manager said as long as I get the same phone and since I bought it back so promptly that he would just swap a new one. This one has been perfect since. Sometimes the convenience of having a store near by is better than having to deal with shipping my phone back and forth!
Alot of people dont want the tmobile Bloatwear but like I said, 32 GB + Local customer support outweight > No bloatwear & 16 Gig with mail in issues. (since i have no sony store near by, id still have to mail in for repairs and exchanges)
Me too, I'm glad I bought it from TMO with an EIP, exchanged mine 3 times on my 4th now, no hassles or fees.
Thinking of getting contract for a pixel on whether O2 or EE.
What is your experience with returns, faults and warranty?
Is it free of branding and any network bloat?
This phone is expensive and better be good if I pay that much. I already red many reviews and I am very happy about general performance being very fast and fluid combined with excelent camera.
I also looked into oneplus 3T but costumer service is the only thing that stops me from opting for that phone.
I also read its worth getting XL since the battery is really good but i am not sure i will be able to contain its size one handed.
Biggest phone I owned was OPO1 while ussualy i do use 5-5'2" inchers. Moto g3 huawei p9.
Thanks
I bought from CPWH last week with Vodafone contract. There is no bloatwares included. It is pure stock. I never like a phone more than 5.2" screen. I like this Pixel so far. I rooted and also removed all google apps like video, music etc as I do not use them and also want to freeup some system ROM.
I'd like to point out that ID Mobile do quite a good deal on 2gb data (and this includes using your calls/text/data abroad) at £31.50 per month with £50 upfront.
I just ordered with them based on this (order direct with ID, carphone warehouse have inflated their prices) and am looking forward to ditching my Honor 4X!
I can update on if there is any bloat when I get it tomorrow or Saturday. I doubt it though as they all just use the standard pixel rom?
went for 32gb version. I ussually keep it minimal stuff on my phone and on the other hand i could not justify price jump for more storage. It is almost insanity I noticed the more storage I have on my phone the more junk i have too.
And yes I was confirmed all updates come from Google just like nexus 5x i bought at cpw on o2 contract some 1.5 year ago.
Can't wait until Monday when I play with that beast of the phones.
Thanks

Google t&cs say warranty only covers original buyer with proof of purchase (I assume from a proper retailer if not Google Store UK).
They will tell you to go back to the place/person you got it from for warranty repairs/exchanges.. if you cannot prove you are the original purchaser.
This was the main reason I had to pass up on an amazing used XL deal (£500 for a good as new Quite Black 32gb) in November.. and reluctantly paid for a normal Pixel direct from Google.
However.. when you buy a handset direct from Google the customer service experience is equivalent to Apples.. it only falls of the cliff if you purchase from a third party.
That is why I decided to pay full price.. for the full comprehensive hassle-free warranty (note, this is the first time in ages I have paid RRP for one of my gadgets.. just for the peace of mind)!
Nevertheless, I have had a Pixel replaced (with a brand new one) recently due to a screen issue (please see my other threads for info if curious).. and that was smooth and pretty quick given the current stock shortages.

Carephonewarehouse is a proper retailer here in UK. I spoke to them and they told me they would be dealing with me in case of any fault, repair.
I just wonder if I be still able to use google 24/7 support line that Google advertise with every Pixel phone. Any idea?
I am still a little sceptical about amoled technology nevertheless I felt more confident going with google. I twill be my first non-IPS based smartphone Pretty much excited.

I have experience with CPW customer service.. I am from the UK as well.
What I was implying was.. if something goes wrong with your Pixel.. CPW will ask to you to send it away for repair etc (can take weeks).. before they issue a replacement (this is after diagnosis).
But when purchased via Google.. they will send you a replacement then ask for the faulty device back (this is after contacting them about the issue.. I have experience of this.. just like Apple normally would do).
Also, the 24/7 support is for all Pixel users (such as technical queries, trouble shooting etc). However, when the issue is deemed warranty related the 24/7 support team will tell you to contact the original the seller i.e. CPW.
Hope that makes sense.

I have had all the iPhones since the iPhone 5 (no plus szie models though) and have just come off an iPhone 7 to the Pixel.
Android wise I have had all the Nexii bar the first One, 6 and 6P.
I like to try most new phones out.. especially the iOS and pure Android ones.. but never been too keen on in Samsungs/LGs/HTCs etc although have tried them all.
Tell me about your experience Iphone 7 vs Pixel? Which one? I have had Iphone 6 though and can tell you I did like too it's reliability which I expect from Pixel phone . It has to simply work.
i just want to inform anyone who bought his phone via Amazon, even at normal price and on release day like myself, will not have warranty, even though EU law strictly says that there is a minimum 6 month manufacturer's warranty that is mandatory. today i received this quoted text from after sales after they already approved my case as production error:
QUOTE
Good day!
Jin here. Thank you for reaching back to us.
I am very sorry to hear about what happened to your OnePlus phone. We have already approved your service request. Our Service Center has sent you the shipping label, and DHL will come over to pick-up your parcel very soon.
About the warranty, although you bought your phone from the Amazon website, we would like to inform you that we only cover the warranty for the OnePlus products which are bought from our authorize/official resellers, or from our official OnePlus website.
After a thorouh review, the purchase you made from Amazon is not an official reseller of OnePlus. Thus, the next repair of your phone will require a payment.
Because the final price is depending on multiple factors:
1. Cost of spare parts
2. Tax
3. Shipping
4. Handling Fee
We are unable to provide an accurate number on the repair fee. The final repair fee will be given upon arrival and inspection at our service provider.
END QUOTE
for this i don't have to copy my data over hours to have a backup and be 10 days or more without my device, without knowing the price beforehand (vibration motor replacement should be possible to predict at least roughly)
i shall order and pay the motor with my local repair shop of my trust and have the device back within the hour and fully working for probably less money.
i just want everyone to know about this "questionable" business conduct and what to expect.
i shall copy paste this in various forums like XDA, REDDIT etc.
Here is some info: https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/guarantees-returns/faq/index_en.htm
Under EU law you have to decide which warranty you want to invoke. In general your first contact should be the trader where you bought the phone, in your case Amazon.
Also, did you buy in a country where Amazon is the official partner of OnePlus or did you buy from a Amazon Marketplace trader?
Yeah, my first OnePlus device was the OP5 and I heard that last year. It's good to let people know from time to time but this is well known overall that OnePlus only warranties their phones purchased from their site (and don't know who is an authorized reseller). If you buy off Amazon then you need to get their protection plan if it's offered on the OnePlus.
Why didn't you just buy it from OnePlus directly to begin with? Save a few bucks? Lesson learned.
OnePlus doenst have to cover your warranty, but amazon has to.

My assumption would be he may not live in a country where you can buy OnePlus. There is no other reason to purchase from Amazon IMHO. Their prices on phones are usually a LOT higher for phones that cannot be attained by folks in some countries.
If you bought it through Amazon and it came through Prime/FBA (regardless of who the seller was), call Amazon and have them replace it. They will cover the warranty. I've had Amazon replace a Nokia E63, LG G5, and LG V20 for me over the years. They have great customer service.

I've bought items before from Amazon and have been reffered back to the original company rather than Amazon replace it. It depends on the item.

Recently, the Amazon support policy has changed. The article is replaced only if there is no authorized service center in the country of sale. Otherwise, Amazon will be responsible for following the entire repair process and the timing may be long.
good feedback all
that was the intention.
mine i repaired myself for 40 ®uros, no big issue.
policies are one thing, legal stuff is something else again and then there is business ethics and acting agains expectations.
no-one who buys a device from a reputed website on release day would ever assume there is no warranty and if i buy a volkswagen it's not mandatory to read the volkswage website. my grandpa does not have a computer for example LOL and still wants to be covered.
however, what i wanted is to refresh memories, get a various useful feedback concentrated in little space and express my opinion that
this is not proper business attitude. they produce a phone, sell it in masses to resellers and later refuse to replace a part which they
confirm that it's hardware failure due to production error..
not everything that one can get away with or is legal is correct and i'm sure that many youngsters with no or small incomes or on pocket money can get themselves into serious trouble this way.
after all in my case it was only the vibes, but what if it's a mother board? full damage moneywise i'd say and this is why it's not
ok what and how they do it.
thanks to everyone for all the great feedbacks, perhaps some more is incoming so that the page or 2 will provide useful information for
as many as possible
cheers and a nice weekend @all
Stupid question but why not buy directly from OnePlus?

Can you please share the link of the amazon page where you brought your phone from?
And as much as i am able to understand, Oneplus is not at fault here. I can buy a Oneplus phone, remove some parts from it and sell it to someone else. Should oneplus take the responsibility here?

That would depend on the fact that the phone was tampered with, if there are no signs of tampering, and it is infact a manufacturing problem from oneplus, then yes, oneplus should accept responsibility regardless of the fact that it was bought from a reseller, as in the end it was OnePlus who manufactured the phone and got paid for it. However, if there are clear signs that the phone has been opened and tampered with, then OnePlus is right to refuse warranty.

Indeed, a very stupid question. Should I buy my vacuum cleaner or washing machine directly from manufacturer's web site ? Have you heard of the word "store" or "online store" , where you buy stuff from ?
I bought my phone from Amazon DE on launch day because I trust Amazon way more than OnePlus as far as delivery times and the phone was sold directly by Amazon from their own stock. And now to find out I have no manufacturer warranty ? I don't think the EU laws allows OnePlus to treat their customers like idiots, I would immediately complain to the authorities. Hopefully this is all a huge misunderstanding.

Regardless of whether it's a misunderstanding or not, the op should still complain. It's unacceptable behavior from oneplus

Here in the UK (and I assume the rest of the EU) your purchase contract is with the supplier who supplied the goods to you and not the manufacturer. Thus the warranty is also with the supplier. If the goods are faulty then the supplier should repair/replace and then it's up to the supplier to sort it out with the manufacturer.

Yes, and I agree, I am in the UK as well BTW. But that is not always the case, for example I bought my old phone from carphone, and when it developed a fault, they sent me to HTC to sort it out, and HTC didn't kick up a fuss. It's just oneplus's response to this that's annoying me. If th supplier/reseller sends it to OnePlus anyway, why can the end user not do the same, saving a good deal of time in the process?
about tampering and similar topics:
in my case oneplus, after reviewing all the logs i sent to them on request and looking into it the ADMITTED a production error and
the only reason why they don't give warranty is that i bought from amazon.
why not buy from oneplus?
no specific reason, since when does one have to justify the store where he buys things as long as the store is reputable and not known to sell stolen stuff etc.?
i'd say that 90% of all goods are purchased from stores that are not owned by the manufacturers.
i bought from amazon because i buy anything i can from them hassle free for years and it's mostly about ease of use and that the courier knows me, my address and so on. it's simply a well established relationship with them.
even if i purchase a new phone on day 2 from a friend who bought it form oneplus they have to provide warranty, in fact oem warranty has really nothing to do with the place of purchase. just think about anything else you purchase wherever you find and like it.
these are simple tricks to reduce responsibilities and to make cash with faulty products.
after all the details should not matter. they deliver a new device to whoever and after one months want money to repair their own fault
after they approved/admitted the fault. all the rest is kind of blabla.... it's faulty, it's new, it has ben purchased at full price from serious
website.
if they think we should not buy from amazon then why do they sell thousands of devices to resellers even before the official release?
or does anyone think that all those thousands of devices on amazone were available on release day without oneplus knowing?
they must have shipped shiploads of devices to amazon resellers worldwide, hence it's all excuse talk and since the devices cost now between
520 and 650 euros that's not acceptable anyways. no cheap thing that has been purchased through dark channels.
What state do you live in? CA has protection for consumers. Ask them to point you to their written policy stating those purchases are not covered under warranty, if they produce a link read it carefully looking for holes. If they are covered contact Amazon and ask to show you where in their product placement it says .... The policy... If it does not Amazon should take it back as they sold it under a bait and switch scheme.
