going from cm 12 ->13 - Xiaomi Mi 4C

Hey guys simple question.
Is this a simple twrp flash or do I have anything to risk?
I am asking this after reading about locked bootloader issue( which I dont understand and would love it if someone explained it in simple english)
I would also like to point out I want to install cm13 the version that isn't on xda(forgive me I cant remember the name)
Thanks in advance

When you go from cm12.1 to cm13 wipe all partitions excluding internal memory. Go to twrp -> wipe -> advaced wipe -> data, system, dalvic -> wipe
and you're done, you can flash cm13 now.
Chceck this, and instrucion on teamsuperluminal's site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/general/team-superluminals-cm13-finally-t3284295

I always wipe that stuff just never questioned why thanks buddy

Side note do I need to flash their twrp?

Flashing ROMs for the beginner

All - I recently rooted my phone. I was excited to start experimenting with ROMs and then got completely overwhelmed.
It was hard to figure out the differences among ROMs, and when I tried to learn how to flash them and try different ones I felt that the instructions for flashing ROMs in the individual threads seemed written for people with a lot more experience than I have.
When I started seeing terms I didnt understand, talk of flashing modems, etc. I totally got intimidated and gave up
Can anyone help direct me to the best guide on this site (I have searched around) for a beginner to experiment with ROMs? Easiest to follow instructions? I followed the ROOT instructions on this thread and found them pretty easy to follow step by step.
Also I know we arent supposed to have "best of" conversations, but are there any ROMs that are easier to install than others, where it might be a good starting point to experiment and learn?
I have Titanium backup but I know people talk about things like "nandroid" and while I have found threads that mention these things, I am really struggling to confidently put it all together.
Any advice or guidance? Is this too much of a total n00b question?

Once you have a custom recovery, you are golden.
All you need is an ICS radio for any jelly bean ROM except for the leaks. You need leaked radio for a ROM based on one of the jellybean leaks.
As for flashing instructions you can follow the op as there will always be instructions posted, but personally I wipe data/factory reset, cache, dalvik, format/data, format/system and format/cache all x3. Yes it's excessive, but I've never had a problem.
Normally you will wipe then flash rom-->gapps-->any other tweaks (ie. Audio, GPS patch, etc)
All ROMs are easy to install. Just follow the instructions in the OP and you should be good to go

Thanks for the responsiveness. I did install a customer recovery (TWRP) as part of my root process.
But here is where I am breaking down...when people say things like "wipe data/factory reset, cache, dalvik, format/data, format/system and format/cache all x3" and "flash rom-->gapps-->any other tweaks (ie. Audio, GPS patch, etc)" I get totally lost.
So I have TWRP am I supposed to run some type of backup or something with it before flashing? This is sort of the staged piece Im struggling to understand...

Yes, always do a backup! Boot into twrp and push backup, it's very simple.

And when flashing make sure your wipe your data and cache under wipe! Otherwise the custom ROM you flashed won't work properly!

OK thanks and is that what people are calling a "nandroid"?
After I flash do I need to use this backup or is it just in case things go wrong and I want to go back to the pre-flash setting?

yes to the backup question
first read my stickies, the links are in my sig, sigs are at the bottom of the post
read and learn as much as you can as you dont want to brick your phone > your phone is as useful as a brick
Awesome. So I create a backup (from what Ive read sounds like only Systems and Data). Its ok to have it on internal storage and compressed?
Then I use TWRP to wipe data, factory reset and clear cache? Is that correct?
And then I will move on to " dalvik, format/data, format/system and format/cache all x3"...not sure what this means yet but reading up on it. Are these all things I do through TWRP?
Thanks so much for holding my hand through this - I really am trying not to use you guys as too much of a crutch!
Part of what is confusing me, for example, is when I look at this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801686 - I dont see anything about the format system, dalvik, etc...

I followed your instructions to put TWRP on and created a backup. So now I just download the ROM and go back intro TWRP, do the factory wipe reset and then choose the ROM?

twrp>wipe>cache partition, dalvik, system, reset > then flash roms only from this i727 forum here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1383

This may be a dumb question, but once I flash a new ROM will I need to redo my desktop, shortcuts, icons, etc? Will I need to restore all my apps and settings using TitaniumBackup or do they remain?

Man, you better be careful! I don't know how you end up in a completely different forum.
Download Rom
Place on external sd
Boot into twrp
Make backup
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Factory reset
Wipe system
Flash a radio if needed
Flash Rom
If cm based Rom, flash gapps
Reboot

Backup with Titanium and restore w/ data for necessary apps. I do w/ data for things such as Apex launcher and other apps that have data I want to keep. If you do this then your icons for your launcher that was backed up will come back after the restore. Any widgets will need to be manually placed back on homescreens

Yeah not too smooth. I got caught up googling around for helpful links and reading on XDA that I ended up following a thread on how to flash, rather than realizing it was for a different device.
Thanks for the patience.
Just to double check...on Titanium Backup I want to choose Back Up all Apps + System Data....then post flash, I restore with the System Data...correct?

[Q] How to do a COMPLETELY factory reset?

Xperia P lt22i
Rooted
Locked bootloader
I'm a noob and yes, I am retarded (You'll know why).
So, I've changed some stuff in my phone:
Status bar, boot and shutdown animation, themes, CWM recovery, xperia Z lockscreen, a custom feature for the camera, and so on.
I didn't do a backup for all those things (I didn't know how, and I still don't), I tought I could wipe data or factory reset my phone and all these thing would be gone and my phone would be totally "factory reseted".
The question is simple, how can I reset COMPLETELY my phone? Is there any method to do it?
(sorry for my english)

it might me a hassle to find your stock rom, so i would reccommend installing a custom rom. There much better.
Check out your phones dev forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1729
Download a rom that you like (read some comments and see if its good), and place it on your sd card
To install a rom you must do a full wipe. To do this boot into recovery and choose: wipe data/factory reset , wipe cache partition, then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache.
Then choose install zip from sd card, and find the rom you downloaded and install it.

Some noob questions.

Hello XDA community,
I've rooted my HTC One X+ like 2 months ago.
I still got the latest stock ROM but I want to put a custom ROM on it.
Which is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987885
I still got some questions about it since it will be the first time flashing a ROM, because the thread isn't really clear to me so I hope someone can help me out with a little bit more detailed guide than mentioned in the ROM thread.
1. Do I have to wipe all my data?
2. Is a dalvik wipe really needed?
I contacted the developer of the ROM he said I didn't have to but when I asked more things about it he didn't reply.
3. How to flash a boot.img?
I can't find a really good tutorial on that.
4. What's the really right order to perform this flash mentioned in above linked thread?
I hope anyone of you can help me out since most of the threads I've seen around people are *****ing about: you shouldn't do it if you don't know what you are doing blablabla.
Since I really want to learn something about it too.

FULL WIPE is clearly recommended when you want to flash another rom. That means (/boot) /system /data /cache /dalvik. You can try it without a FULL WIPE but that will causes errors in most cases.
You need a working HTC USB cable
You need working adb/fastboot, download it from here
You need latest HTC drivers, download it from here
You need a GOOD custom recovery, download it from here
Additionally you need a flashable rom + boot.img
When you got all these we can proceed with flashing a rom

Hello LS.xD,
Thanks for your reply.
I am not at home at the moment.
I will be in about 4.5 or 5 hours, so I will download everything then.
I got the recovery flashed already, so I can probably skip that.
My HTC drivers are probably outdated.
Since my HTC desktop programm had to update the last time I opened it.
And I downloaded the files of the ROM too.

By the way LS.xD,
I got 'CWM-based Recovery v6.0.3.2'. (That's what it says in the top when I am in recovery mode)
I got three wipe options:
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
These are all the wipes I got to perform AFTER installing the zip right? Because if you do it before you will wipe the zip file, is that right?

Its for a reason i recommended the recovery in my post. Pls install and THEN we can go on
and NO you first perform the wipe and then install a rom.
and pls uninstall HTC sync before using fastboot to flash boot.img as it will cause errors if you have htc sync installed.

Probably a dumb question, but if you do a factory reset your music and pictures will be deleted, why doesn't the zip file be deleted? I will test it at home though. Factory reset, put the zip file on it, then factory reset again in recovery and look if the zip file still exists on my phone.

[Q] What to wipe?

This is probably the wrong place to ask but I wanted to know what I should be wiping in TWRP before I flash a new ROM. It's been a long time since I flashed a fresh ROM (I'm on CM11S for quite some time) and I can't remember what I wipe to give myself a clean start.
Thanks

Depends what you mean by clean start, if you mean you want fresh out of the box experience (no apps, no pictures, no anything etc) goto advanced wipe and select everything apart from USB-OTG.
If you want to retain all of your media (pictures, videos etc) the standard wipe in TWRP should cover you (wipes dalvic, cache and data), you don't need to wipe system as TWRP will wipe it automatically before it installs any custom rom.
Thanks. I do want a out of the box experience but with CM12 nightlies instead of CM11S. It's been too long since I flashed anything to my device...

Wipe system, data, cache, dalvik cache.

How to perform a clean install?

How to do a clean install(no rom installed just recovery)? I want to format everything and flash my rom thru otg. Shud I wipe everything when I boot to recovery?
I think internal storage is the correct option then though it also removes all media on the device. Otherwise clear system, data, cache, bootloader, dalvik. Then install the rom from external source.
Should I flash from fastboot the recovery(twrp)? It might get wiped once the wipe everything.

I tried to go through few thereds however I was unable to find an answer.
I'm still on 5.11 oreo a d official TWRP. I would like to update to newest pie, however I would go for clean flash.
How should I do it?
I already backed up all app+ data using titanium.
Should I just go to TWRP
1. Factory default
2. Wipe all
3. Wipe system. Data, davlik and cache
4 flash latest pie and don't reboot
5 reboot to twrp
6 flash twrp
7 reboot to TWRP and flash magisk
It it right?

Miss all days we could go to TWRP, erase all **** and then just flash rom. Period.
Now, doing this can even brick the dam phone.

That also happened to me. I do not know how to go to another custom ROM from another custom ROM without going to MsmDownloadToolV4 to unbrick my device. Actually i did unbrick my device twice already because of trying various custom ROM.
Also, is there a way to just restore from recovery then flash another custom ROM. Then if we want to change custom ROM again we can just restore from recovery again then flash another custom ROM?
Please help us guys. Thanks.
