Possible Bricked G2x No NV Flash Back Up

I was flashing CM 7 nightly 49 and now my phone is stuck on the LG logo, how do I fix?

After reading all the steps req'd to "Flash a Rom" and "recovery" process, what part isn't working?

After going through the NV flash process and getting to the last step that says
Keep holding them, as soon as you see "ANDROID" in Green with the new boot logo let go of the buttons.
From there it goes into boot recovery. I then choose from one of the roms I have on my SD card, it loads okay but then when I try to reboot it hangs up on the LG logo again
What am I doing wrong

we def need more info then that like what recovery how did u install the rom did u wipe data then cache then dalvik? then install rom and gapps? did u install any kernels previously? and this is probably going to get moved it should be in general

ok when u go into recovery do u wipe data factory reset, then cache, then go to advanced and wipe dalvik then install rom and gapps and it should boot up fine, did u make a backup of ur stock rom first?

Damn. for one month on XDA you sure do have a lot of posts
On topic: I'm assuming you forgot to fully wipe before flashing the new rom.

If you can get into recovery, it's not bricked.
Read the install directions, you missed a step or got a bad download.. Or a bad build, as they are nightlys...
In recovery, do factory reset, then mounts and storage, select format system. Then install the rom.
Also, get the stock nandroid and put it on your card so you can drop to a known good setup.

I had back it up using rom manager but its on another computer. I took had gotten a SD card with more storage and never transferred it.

You could copy the backup from your computer and make a folder called clockworkmod/backup/ on your new SD and put the backup file in that folder. When you go into recovery, backup and restore. restore - it should be visible. Select it and you should be OK - IF your backup is good.
If not, download a ROM and Gapps with your computer and put them in the root of your SD. Then after a full wipe, flash them.
If you have the latest Recovery, you can mount storage and then cut and past to your device while connected. If not, or if you have any problems moving them, just take it out and do it while it is plugged in your computer.
You have several options - so one of them will work.

[Q] [i9023] Rooting & Unrooting (ICS 4.0.3)

Following situation: I have bought a Nexus S from someone. The previous owner installed Superuser at some point and later on updated to ICS 4.0.3 (and unrooted the phone as well before the update, apparently). For warranty reasons, I want to remove the Superuser application completely, but naturally I can only do that by rooting the phone again (otherwise I will not be able to delete /system/app/Superuser.apk).
I searched around here and other sites around the web and found a few guides, but haven't found anything specifically for the i9023 with ICS 4.0.3, especially for unrooting.
Could someone may be point me in the right direction? Or is there simply no way of doing that currently on an i9023 with ICS 4.0.3?

Also, recently some sort of flash counter resetter has come to light for ICS devices, look it up and check it out before you unroot, it might be worth the probable risk, if you're willing to go the distance to ensure a warranty. I have no clue on how or if it works though, be careful.
One question though, do you actually have any warranty seeing as you bought the device used? If not, why not just reroot it and enjoy that?

Other users on a german Android forum reported the same problem, when using this method (the Nandroid backup image and restoring it via CWM). They then tried a different method using Odin.
(Funnily enough, when I reverted to my original ICS 4.0.3 backup image via CWM, my USB Transfer Speed problem got fixed. I only had 1 MiB/sec before, and now after this whole ordeal I have ~20 MiB/sec (or more).)

I do still have warranty on it. The device was bought on 14th of December 2011 and I have the receipt. According to the seller, he got a Galaxy Nexus on Christmas 2 weeks later, so he simply sold his brand new Nexus S.
I may want to send the phone in, because the phone speaker is a bit bad. It's not completely broken, I can still understand everything, but the quality is rather bad, some frequencies get really distorted etc. I don't know if the Samsung support partner where I'll go to will grant me the warranty here, but I want to try nonetheless. Paid too much money for it to have a bad speaker .

In my opinion, you should never use other people's CWM backups on your own phone. It can mess things up BAD. Especially when they don't say what model they have.
Grab a full ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445635 and you'll be good to go. Don't forget to wipe /system, /data, /cache, /boot, dalvik cache and do a factory reset before flashing, assuming you're using CWM.

Phew, but for that, I'd need to root it again, right? I am still not sure if any of the rooting guides I found so far also apply to my case, since I have ICS 4.0.3 on it. (As I said superuser is already installed, but the device is not rooted and it seems to be a leftover from before the ICS 4.0.3 update.)

Well, I wouldn't know Try booting into recovery, if it's CWM recovery it's really very easy, and that's all you'll need anyway. doing the full wipe and reflash guarantees that there'll be no traces of the rooting process remaining at all.
If you don't have CWM, but the phone boots up with an unlocked symbol at the Google logo (first indicator of an unlocked bootloader), you can easily flash CWM again and then flash to all-stock. Then relock. Most rooting guides still hold, just make sure you flash the latest CWM (5.0.2.0 (non-touch) or 5.8.0.x (touch)), especially as for what you want to do you don't need SU, just CWM.
Step-by-step quick guide written by me
Install Android SDK if necessary (for adb and fastboot) (plenty of guides for that around)
download recovery file from CWM and rename to recovery.img
Connect phone to computer and reboot into bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
use CWM to wipe everything and reflash
fastboot oem lock
???
Profit!
Alternately, use a one-click root method to flash CWM and then work from there

I did look into CWM before you posted it and noticed these wiping options. However, I am unsure what exactly I should use. There is
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
in the main menu of CWM and
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
under advanced. But there is no specific mention of /system and /boot .

actually necessary? I searched around a bit and I thought that I simply have to grab one of the full ROMs (e.g. Android 2.3.6/GRK39F/XXKF1 Radio/KA3 Bootloader) and then use

in CWM.

The format options are under mounts and storage. Be careful not to wipe the SD, and make backups of stuff you want to keep (like SMS messages or apps etc). What I always do is wipe everything (except the sd-card!) under mounts and storage and then do a factory reset, that should also take care of the dalvik cache if I remember correctly. So just skip everything I said before wipe and reflash

Yes, although I have to flash it every time I want to use it (I guess because the stock Android ICS ROM is removing it on every boot?).

Aaah ok, so under
- mounts and storage
I do
- format /system
- format /cache
- format /data
- format /boot
and maybe
- format /sdcard
as well, if I don't need anything on it anymore, and then
- wipe data/factory reset
in the main menu of CWM, correct? And after that
- install zip from sdcard
with the aforementioned ROM.

Exactly, but don't wipe the sdcard, as the ROM you're going to flash is on there
and after that, don't forget to relock your bootloader, if it's still unlocked they'll know it used to be rooted

[Q] First time flashing NS i9023 (serious flasher from SGS,SGS2)

Hey!
First let me say that I know all about flashing SGS and SGS2. Im a proud owner of SGS1 from day 1.
Last week I decided to finally flash my brothers i9023 so I flashed stock 4.0.3 with stock recovery. Then we wanted to flash some XDA stuff and I don't understand these guides...
I found one guide where you get superuser access with one click and usb cable, I did that, then I flashed CWM through Rom manager and flashed 4.0.4 from evilisto (v1.1) and it worked. Now I'm trying to flash some others, like nuhetri reloaded or pixel rom and I'm always getting stuck at boot animation. It just keeps "working" and nothing happens for 5+ minutes.
What am I doing wrong? Please help!

with nuhetri i think there is a bug where your not supposed to wipe data coming from another rom only davlik cache and cache then flash nuhetri

I did all that before... Im going to redownload, maybe its corrupted but I doubt it. Is it maybe because I have locked bootloader or something? Beacause I didnt use that long guide with "android SDK" in General, but some other very quick guide. Just plug USB, enable debugging and run some script and thats it.

do yourself a favor, do it the right way the first time and save yourself headaches in the future. its not hard. fastboot oem unlock(bootloader), flash a custom recovery, flash a custom rom(and gapps) via the recovery, then boot up. thats it.

If you are more of a visual type of guy I suggest going on YouTube and search "zedomax". He has some really simple videos on how to root your nexus s, he has a couple videos on how to root but make sure its for a GSM nexus.

Simms got all in a simply way.
Unlock boot loader
Install or flash cwm
install the new stuff from SD card
reboot

Can anyone tell me or please provide a link to what unlocking bootloader does please.

Excuse my ignorance, I'm pretty new to this and I might not be of any help at all... but is it even possible to flash a custom recovery without unlocking the bootloader on the Nexus S?
I followed the instructions found on the NexusShacks.com website (How to root Nexus S or Nexus S 4G on ICS or Gingerbread) without any issues at all (sorry, can't post links due to low postcount :/)
No problems for me, I had zero experience with this sort of stuff but I have flashed a new ROM a every few days now without any issues whatsoever.

I searched quite a bit but was left unsatisfied with the answers provided.
1. How to fresh install roms (cleanrom in my case)? Just factory reset in recovery before flashing (TWRP 2.4)? Wipe Cache, dalvik before or after?
2. What's the proper order for wipe cache\dalvik\data? Is it before rom installation, after or both ?
Lets say im using stock rom and want to do a clean install. I just want what comes with clean rom. No leftovers from the old installation. What steps should i take?

I consider what I want and what is suggested as the proper install for the particular rom (see the op as roms vary).
You don't want anything left so I'd do spring cleaning. In twrp ( update your twrp to 2.4.1.0 ) if I wanted clean as you say I'd wipe cache, dalvik, data, and system (no formatting just wipe). Before you do this make sure you have one known good backup on your internal sdcard and on your external sdcard. You should also have a flashable zip on each. Insure you can see these files on both cards (with twrp) before you wipe. If you practice this method you will always have an out if there is a problem. If you don't then with what has been wiped you are assured a brick at sometime in the future. I do this before to clear my unit; when you are told to do some wipes afterwards this is to clear something in the rom you are flashing.
Sorry but I was required to say that as you never know who might see this in the future and not know to protect themselves.

Make sure you are unlocked. Install TWRP 2.4.1.0 over fast boot from a PC or too manager if you are already rooted.
You can install CROMI straight over stock with a dalvik cache and cache wipe but if you want a clean system just wipe data via the factory reset option inside TWRP (not the boot loader) and then flash the CROMI file. Recommend odex if you are just starting out.

thanks. thats pretty much what i did the second time. after failing to do a clean install i went back and almost used format which i guess is bad for those who dont know what the hell it does.. but the red letters in twrp swayed me away from that option

That sucks. There's software out there that can probably help you recover what was on your card.
As for a clean install, you'll probably want to throw a ROM image/zip onto another SD (if you plan on recovering from your current one) and then get into recovery to flash it.
It's a pretty general set of instructions, but as sbdags said though, you may find better advice in the right forum.

Retard... Nooob question about custom roms

Hi guys
I got my one S two days ago, and in thursday ive read everything (as usual), did every single faq/tutorial and always got in the same end.. A dead device.
I don't know if I miss something or some "basic" knowing about it, i have a t-mobile one S and nothing wotks except runing the stock t-mobile update.
I'm coming from a long range nexus family (and i love sense, for sure), and i don't know what im doing wrong now.
And yeah, just in case, im runing a t-mobile stock, deodexed, rooted, init.d and optimized stock rom.

I flash say CM10.1 like this:
1. download cm10.1 nightly zipfile from get.cm. Check md5sum
2. extract boot.img from above zip file.
3. copy zipfile to my sdcard
5.. boot into recovery ( I use TWRP )
6. install cm10.1 zip file
7. wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache
8. boot into bootloader
9. fastboot flash boot boot.img ( from you PC )
10. reboot and enjoy
My guess is you aren't doing 9). Indeed if you have S-OFF this step can be superfluous.
Three - that's how many posts I predict will remind you to post questions in the other forum

Yes, all your steps listed, I've tried all this steps and got a bootloop, with any rom. That's why I make this thread, im starting to feel retarded.

Firmware would be the next thing I'd look at - although CM10.1 is pretty tolerant. Please can you post all the text on your boot loader screen?

CyanogenMod has NEVER worked on my HTC One S (S4), didn't matter how many times i wiped the system / cache / dalvik, didn't matter if i booted boot.img (S-ON), it just stayed on the splash screen.
Other ROMs worked though, an I am currently enjoying the hell out of my liquidsmooth ROM and OC kernel (bubba 3.6b). Maybe i just never let CM10 sit long enough...
But if you say that no ROMs work, are you sure you're not using an S3 device?

You say you end up with a bootloop, but are you giving the rom enough time to settle? The first boot can take a minutes to complete. I found this with CM when I first started flashing roms

i usually reboot one more time after initial boot
did you try reformatting sdcard, use a good formatter like sdformatter and do full format

Have you wiped system, cache and done a factory reset before flashing the ROM zip?

Well I fixed. After a few tries I just format every single partition (even boot), and then flash the zip.
