How to Root Samsung Galaxy A9 ( A9000 ) - General Questions and Answers

I bought my Galaxy A9 in China ( I work here ) and as you may know Google apps are not already installed on Chinese phones and I need to root and flash Google Apps.
The problem is as this phone is too new, I can't find any ways to root it. I tried Kingroot, Framaroot....but all fail. I have unlocked phone via CROM. Any idea how I can root this beast?

Try to flash with A9 Hongkong Rom

Try Root Unlocker Pro .. Search In Google and You May Find It

Wait for CF Auto-Root to support your phone. SM-A9000?
Sent from my GT-I9500

Anyone heard anymore?

Don't brick your phone while still too new. As KrasCGQ said wait for proper root exploits to be released for the Galaxy A9. I live in Kenya and the A9 hasn't hit our markets yet. I soooo envious to get the A9 more any other device this year....it might not be perfect, but I think it's rock solid for power users, 6' inch 4000mAh is just right! How I hope and pray that we get a dedicated Dev's for the Galaxy A9, it will make the device absolutely AWESOME!!! :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

If you just want get google apps back, just flush HongKong version firmware, I'd just done my own. The latest firmware from HK is 'A9000ZCU1APB3'. BTW, you should get the HK version's PIT files and flush it first, then again the single .tmd firmware file flush with pc odin.

Can you please share HK pit file with me? Thank you!

Due to the still missing possibility to have root access to Samsung A9 I am confronted with a different problem. I switched to the A9 because I broke my other phone. I have no access anymore to my old phone but I still have very up to date backups available on my SD-card ... All my backups I made with Titanium Backup. In order to restore them on my new A9 I unfortunately need root access ...
Does anyone have another idea how to restore my backups without root access or do I really have to wait until someone finds a possibility to gain root access ...

Hi @alireza.nasibi @Gunmon @kevin.na
The easiest way is to use SamFirm and download TGY firmware via that application.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Here is what should you input to download latest firmware for now together with pit file.

CSC: A9000ZZH1APB4

I followed exactly what you explained. Decrypted files are AP, BL,CF & CSC. I can't find any PIT file there. Can someone simply share PIT file of HK firmware for us, please?

PIT file is inside CSC tar.md5 file. Open it with 7-Zip and you'll find a pit file there together with cache.img and hidden.img.
Edit: Sorry for not mention that before.

Samsung Galaxy 3 (I5801/I5800) Flashing Guide

Before these steps make sure you have latest version of kies installed, it helps in keeping latest drivers installed.
Files required for Flashing can be downloaded here.

2) Check "One Package" checkbox
3) Check “Reboot” checkbox
4) Check protect ops checkbox (Don’t check this if you are flashing I5801 with I5800 firmware for the first time.)
5) Check reset time checkbox, keep the default value as it is i.e. 300 don’t select any other options.
6) Hit reset files button once.
7) Click ops button and select OPS file for I5800
8) Click one package and select the firmware you want to flash. The file must a .tar file.
9) You can take a backup of your data/apps. For that you can use Titanium Backup. For backing up contacts and SMS.
A) go to contacts press menu/left most button select import/export option, then export the contacts to sdcard.
B) For sms use the app called SMS backup.
10) Now remove your sdcard and sim card from phone and do a factory reset/ Hard Reset also clear cache then restart and put it in downloading mode by pressing vol- + home + power button together.
11) Now connect your phone to pc.
12) Odin will show yellow color and com port no. in the first box on top in Odin.
13) Click Start and watch the progress bar and timer, wait until PASS message appear on Message box.
14) Disconnect the phone from PC when Odin displays disconnect serial port & wait until rebooting phone.

After reboot do factory reset or Hard Reset also clear cache again then restart phone and put sim and sdcard back in.
Sorry cant post images right now in office, will attach images as soon as i get home.
Please let me know if i have missed anything or if anything needs correction.
ATENTION I5801 USERS:
to keep the i5801 bootscreen you should remove boot.bin and sbl.bin from the .tar file before flashing.
Not needed to remove SD/SIM.

Till now we don't need different .ops file for any of our firmwares they all can be flashed using same .ops file in the link i gave.
Yes you need to select the the same ops file apollo_0531.ops every time.
You wont get .ops files within Firmware zip files.
Attached is a image of Odin while all is set and we need to hit start.

I am an IDIOT...Tab 7.0 Plus

I'm the somewhat proud owner of a GT-P6200L in the U.S. who is eagerly awaiting the ICS upgrade.
Obvously, to go through Samsung Kies and to not root or download a Rom requires me to wait until Samsung decides to grace me.
I'm not crazy about doing anything "non-factory" to this device as it is excellent just as it is, but if I were to decide to upgrade to ICS, where can I find COMPLETE STEP by STEP instructions on EXACTLY how to perform the update? Does it even exist?
Your help is much appreciated!
settings>about device>software update.
of by Using Samsung Kies>connect device>check for firmware update;etc.
If you're looking for a guide to install our only official ICS to your GT-P6200L, there isnt really a guide.
I will explain briefly: 1. Wipe 2. Odin 3. Done.
read and search for more details.
Not to be a douche, but look at the stickies or search before asking.

You can use Odin 1.85 tick box auto-reboot and F.Reset Time. click PDA and select the extracted TAB 7+ ICS Firmware. Boot your TAB to download mode. (From OFF, press and hold power and down volume key, once you see the galaxy tab screen turn on, let go of the power button while still pressing the down key until the menu appears telling you to press the volume up key to continue.) Plug in your TAB to the PC (using the stock cable) wait for the yellow ID:COM port number to appear on the ODIN screen then click the start button.
OR, you can also use mobile odin. :good: (The Joy of Flashing.... without the cable juggle )

Flashing Firmware with Odin
PDA refers to the build version of the software/firmware
Phone refers to the baseband/modem version
CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
.PIT refers to the partition information table you only need it if you screw up your partition table or if the firmware specifically requires it because of a change in the partition table layout. It's very likely you may never have to use this.
If the package only contains one .tar archive then it will have everything, pda+phone+csc, in the one file.
If it has multiple .tar archive then:
The .tar with modem in the name is the phone/baseband bit of the package
.tar with csc/multi-csc in the name is the csc bit of the package
.tar with code/PDA in the name is the PDA part of the firmware package
Please ensure that KIES is closed and not running in the system tray! Kies doesn't like Odin, it's like the big brother who's always jealous that his little brother is getting to flash all the phones so he starts to flash block.
You do not need to root or unroot the device to update the firmware.
Get Odin v3.04 from here:https://androidfirmwares.net/Tools/Download/8
(Just extract the Odin folder)
You will also need to install the Samsung USB drivers for the device if you haven't installed KIES. Get them from here: Download
Just install like any Windows program...
1. Just download the firmware version you want from the second or third posts and extract the .tar or .tar.md5 file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key + press the power button.

You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin
4. If your ROM is a single .tar.md5 package click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you extracted in step 1 and select it. This should like like the image below.
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA/Code, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin like below.
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Regardless of firmware version it's still the same methodology
6. Connect the USB cable and wait for any required drivers to install and the ID:COM section to turn blue like below
7. Click start to flash. If Odin hangs at setting up connection just unplug the USB cable and re-attach it, Odin should now resume
8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device once the flash has started, it will reboot when it finishes.
If the firmware is from this thread it will not wipe your phone if you flash as recommended UNLESS I state that the firmware is a "WIPE" version.
A HEARTY THANK YOU is in order.
I never flashed or rooted anything for fear of bricking my unit. But your post gave me the confidence to try.
And it was simple and wildly successful.
Interestingly, I have a 6200L because it has a different antenna than a regular 6200 right? After flashing, I now have a 6200 but still get the same reception and speeds on the ATT network.
When Samsung finally gets around to "officially" updating my Tab, I will be able to do it via Kies, correct?

I've connected my newly upgraded to ICS unit to Kies and it says that "Your Device does not support upgrading via Kies".
Kies obviously doesn't like the upgrade!
is it rooted? this is usually why.
maybe Kies just needs an update for your model no.
Nope not rooted. It was a stock 6200L

Ok, now that he's fixed his comment so it makes a tiny bit of sense. I had this problem with the p900 as well. This was how I fixed the hang on cache issue very quickly.
Get 7zip.
1. Open the zip file you got for cf-autoroot with 7zip. Extract the CF-Auto-Root-v1a3g-v1a3gxx-smp901.tar.md5 file.
2. Remove .md5 extension and rename the file CF-Auto-Root-v1a3g-v1a3gxx-smp901.tar
3. Open this file with 7zip, extract recovery.img from it. Set this aside, you'll need it in a few more steps.
3. Download Caboomi's Recovery img2tar odin maker tool from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281287
4. Unzip the tool into a folder. Delete the recovery.tar.md5 it comes with. You will also see a Runme.bat file.
5. Edit the bat file with something like Notepad ++. The second line will be
Code:
bin\tar -H ustar -c recovery.img > recovery.tar
Change this to
Code:
bin\tar -cf recovery.tar recovery.img
Save the file.
6.Remember the recovery.img file you took from the CF-Auto-Root-v1a3g-v1a3gxx-smp901.tar in step #3? Throw that file into the same folder where the Runme.bat file is located.
7. Run the .bat file. It will produce a new recovery.tar.md5
8. Flash this new recovery file in Odin. HAVE AUTOREBOOT TURNED OFF.
9. Flash the original CF-Auto-Root-v1a3g-v1a3gxx-smp901.tar.md5 file after that.
10. Hopefully success?
Got everything but the result is still the same problem

Here I made one for you, try this one in Odin click me I didn't zip it since it's just the tar.md5 file not all the extra odin stuff. Don't modify this file's extensions, put it straight into odin.
After downloading, you should check the md5 matches: 44d09a57009cfdbb322f0c9ca13bd4fe
Let me know if it works. Otherwise we have to look for another problem cause/solution.
Please solution of the problem

Dear alhgan,
do you still have the files you got from Gatsrom?
I have the same problem then you had.
Thanks!
Finally rooted my P901
After hundred times stucked at cache.img I found the reason and got my p901 finally rooted!
Two things which I made wrong, so remember the following two points:
1. You have to switch on USB debugging in “development options” under Settings on your P901!
2. You have to start Odin as Admin!
Go on with the normal flashing procedure:
Start P901 in flashing mode
Start Odin as Admin (use only the Odin version which comes in the package from CF!)
Load tar.md5 File in AP
Connect the P901 to PC
Start
That´s all!
please rebuild the file to root

Samsung galaxy sm j727p - (boost mobile)

Hey there everyone,
I have a Samsung Galaxy SM J727P (Boost Mobile) - I am not quite sure what happened; however I sometimes power my phone off by pulling the battery. This time... at the very wrong time or the right time. I am guessing it was doing a system update; however I didn't select that and didn't get a notification.
When I powered it back up, it gave me an error and wouldn't boot.
I since then accidentally pressed some buttons and the screen loaded Android Recovery screen. I would flash it with ODIN however I don't want to lose any data. My SIM Card has my contacts I believe for the most part. I would like to save as much as possible.
Does anyone have any ideas what this error could mean for my data situation? I never once rooted this phone or changed stock ROM.
Here it is: (Also has cracked screen from running it over with my car):

peter couniaz,
Would you agree that "J727PVPU6BSF2" would be the next version to flash it to correctly from the existing J727PVPU4BRK4 version of firmware?
I found the following direct links to the above mentioned firmware:
AP:
androidfilehost dot com/?w=file-thanks&fid=818070582850488362&mid=254&download_id=ac2523d3c5746caecae78252005a1a0a&tid=1578746727&hc=a557bb807dd4fbbf33973d2e1e7b4779e2bbc3cc71ecb7ade855cf0892403cf0

CSC:

Do you think these are the correct versions? I remember the Developers here on XDA were using these back in 2016-2017 and I never had a problem then.
Thanks again! :good:

You may need to download from another site the J727PVPU6BSF2 will work but you need the CSC Home file to try to save your data !
Try this link
https://samfrew.com/model/SM-J727P/
Or try the sammobile site !
[SOLVED] Thanks peter couniaz

Thank you again peter,
I was able to solve this by doing as you said and using the following firmware:
samfrew dot com/download/Galaxy__J7__Perx__/tadn/BST/J727PVPU4BRK4/J727PSPT4BRK4/
NOTE: If you are using Boost Mobile and an American like myself; Don't hesitate using Regional Firmware: (BST). It's the Boost Mobile Branding that's the true differential.
I flashed with ODIN revision Current.13 and it worked wonderfully!

FVC8 is older as FVD4...
Maybe user with FVC8 can confirm working or not...

Thanks for the update friend. My model is SM-R860 from Korea. Bluetooth version. Tried again but still it doesn't work.
If maybe this work on Device for India...
So IMHO INU is CSC
Example...
http://fota-cloud-dn.ospserver.net/firmware/INU/SM-R860/version.xml
OXM is NO active CSC...
I will try to investigate why Code *#0808# is blocked by active CSC DBT...
Maybe similar magic to your Code...
Best Regards
