Well... The best option that I found, with a good performance & battery life for ~$300 is a Xiaomi RedMi Note 2. It's a pretty good phone, that can be rooted (or even comes pre-rooted out of the box). Has a 5" screen & runs on custom Android called MIUI that is loved all around the world [emoji1]

[Question] Double tap to wake on Nexus 5?

Hello,
So when android 5 was announced they said that devices like nexus 6 and 9 will get the feature to double tap to wake and google now always listening even when screen is off.
Are there any news regarding these features on nexus 5? Does the new preview gives any information on this?
Thanks!
Won't be on the N5....its a software/hardware relationship that just isn't possible on the N5.
The N5 gets a pedometer. ?

Oh, and something to do with the screen hardware, right @Lethargy ? ?

800 is just as capable as the 801. Low-power core is just used for a hardware pedometer instead of "always listening", as well as legal issues if you were to enable it without permission.

Lethargy said:
The low-powered core is only good for things that usually require wakelocks (i.e. always listening, music playing, hardware pedometer). Screen-off gestures are done at kernel level and does NOT require a wakelock, so the low-powered core is completely useless in that regard.
Only factor determining if screen-off gestures drains or not is how power is provided to the panel. If it's possible to power the digitizer on separately, then it uses less battery. If you have to power the entire panel on, it'll use more. Either way, it's the exact same thing and not really done much differently across all devices; just make sure the digitizer is powered in any way and wake the device (or whatever) on specific gestures.

If its a legal issue then why are there Kernels that support DT2W? Not trying to come off as a smarta** xD just was wondering.

Its two separate quotes, first one is for always listening and second is for tap to wake.

The weirdest problem.

hi guys,
i seriously think i have the weirdest problem on my nexus 5, i looked for ages for someone with that problem. and didnt find.
ever since i've replaced my screen and my battery (pretty sure it's an original one) every now and than my phone just turns off.
the weird part is, it won't turn on until i plug my phone to the charger.
i can plug it even to one second, and than i can turn my phone back on.
and it won't turn on in any other way!
I have this problem for a long time so i gathered some facts:
* it can happen regardless of how much battery i have. it can happen in 90% and it can happen in 10.% but i did found out it is more likely to happen the less battery i have.
* it happens more when i use stock apps: google search, google maps, camera...
* it happens almost always when i take a picture with the camera , especially if i use flash
* it is more likely to happen if the device is wormer (after a long heavy use...)
* it is also likely to happen if i press the "back" button a lot of times rapidly to go back to home screen
Ask lg
Have you isolated the reverse power flux coupling?
This is not weird. Obviously something went wrong when you replaced battery and or screen.

i don't have money for a repair shop... it will probably cost me like a new phone
i wanna figure out the problem myself and try fixing it alone (by buying parts in ebay...)
and i still think the problem might be softwary

That's fine, except no one here is going to be able to tell what you did or didn't do when you opened up the device and replaced the battery and screen. There's some very sensitive circuitry in there. Could be anything. Most likely NOT software-related or other folks would be having these same issues. and they're not.

You're describing basically the same issues I used to have with my old Samsung galaxy s4 when the battery got bloated. 3 times.. 100% bad battery.
I mean, c'mon dude really? you replaced the battery AND the screen and you still think you're having software issues?.. just replace the battery for one you're more than "pretty sure" is an original one..

Shield getting slow and slower and slower after every OTA update

Hey guys,
I am posting here as I am totally desperate ...
Since I own my Tablet Shield I had the same behavior after each OTA update : The tablet is getting slow and laggy, even freezing.
The workaround was to do a factory reset and then it was brand as new.
Since last OTA update 1 month ago, this work around isn't working anymore
I am really disappointed as I only use this tablet to read book and a bit of social media. No gaming or heavy apps. That's really annoying and I am actually thinking of getting back to an Ipad 2 that was faster ...
Any toughs about this issue ?
Thanks
clean cache or maybe reduce cpu to 2 core?

That's wierd it amazingly worked. But what now always 2 cores. Isn't having 4 cores is to have better performance. What about gaming, will it affect ?
Try disabling daydream in display settings. It worked for me and several on the geforce forum.

True or faulse?

I am buying this news abut the S8 having an imbedded 3D finger print scanner on the bottom of the screen. HOPE its TRUE!!!

It does not. According to the media, they ran out of time with the technology. They might have it inside the Note 8. (Pure speculation at this point - however it would definitely sell the Note 8.)

Pretty sure the FP sensor is at the back. Its confirmed by a lot of tech youtubers too. If you look at the early design case cutouts you will see a small rectangular square beside the camera cutout. I believe they are also bringing the iris scanner from Note 7 series as a secondary way to unlock your phone if you don't want to use your fingerprint scanner.

Project Treble

So in some of the news articles a lot of people were complaining that moto have a bad track record when it comes to updates. I'd like to point out that these new phones are releasing with Oreo which means that they have project treble. This makes it far far easier to adapt updates and roms to these phones so even if moto don't bother expect to have all the options! XD
Hi,
First we need to see a method for installing Magisk and a Custom Recovery!

Certainly! But no one has this phone for now. The G6 Plus should arrive the 7th of may (mine too). But there's no G6 Plus section on XDA at the moment...

It should be arriving today. Once I have it set-up, I'll try to say something useful about it
Edit: the phone arrived. Setting it up now. Until now everything is smooth. The screen is really nice. Speed is great. Pity to see that 'out of the box' 20% of the internal 64 gb is already taken by the OS and it's native apps.
For now I didn't figure out if the OS is 64 bit or 32 bit.
The camera(s) is (are) really awesome! For now no regrets! But the phone still has a locked bootloader and no root. So for now I can't really check everything. But that's only a matter of time...
The OS is 64 bit!

Great!
Please, can you share info about sensors? It has Compass? NFC?
Another question: As the root/Magisk isn't available at time for this model, can you check almost the Substratum native support with Andromeda (no root required)?

Compass and NFC work both fine. I didn't deliberately test GPS, but location service works fine. And sorry, I really, really hate substratum! No theming for me. One of the reasons that I buy a 'stock android' phone without a skin.
Only little disappointment for now is the battery life. That was better on my Moto G5 Plus with Validus O, but it still brings me through the day.
Here is the complete list of sensors I found on my Moto G6 Plus!

The battery life was promised as excellent. It's good, but not as good as my Moto G5 Plus with Validus O.
I have the XT1926-3 4/64. Bought in The Netherlands. Codename is 'evert-n' (at least that's what it shows in ADB).
I don't see an FM Radio app, so I assume it doesn't have FM radio. But I usually listen radio via a digital radio app that works online. Way better sound quality and it works without wired headphone!
It does have an fm radio.
I switched from a Nexus 6p to the Moto g6 plus a couple of days ago.
It's a lot cheaper than the 6p was but definitely holds up against it.
It's fast and smooth. Display is very good outdoors in bright sunlight. Its front facing speaker is very loud, camera's are good and the software as it is almost stock Android is also excellent.
Battery life has been great. I am quite the heavy user, and never once with my 6p was I able to get through more then a day. Always ended my days in the 10% with 3h Screen on time.
The Moto g6 has gotten me 2 full days per charge with a screen on time of more then 5 hours. Even with me still downloading apps and installing things.
Only drawback I can find in the whole phone is that it is slippery as hell. A case can easily solve this. But its too bad because she is quite a looker...
This is actually off topic of the project trebble thread, bus as you guys were talking about the 6 plus, I thought I would weigh in.

Hi,

How is the battery compared to the old Z Play? Here I have 14h sot. Maybe reachable just with the new G6 Play, right? I think I keep on Z Play. It's good enough. But G6 Plus seems to be great, too. Can anybody check treble support? It it's supported, it's looking like that. You can test it with this app "Treble Check". Thanks!
