LG STYLO BOOST is rooted ,........ Now What? - General Questions and Answers

Wow, phones have really changed since I had my work Nextel phone about 10 years ago. Haven't had one until I got this Stylo last summer. I've been fiddling with it and reading the posts to try to catch up. Well I just rooted it with KingRoot 4.8 successfully, I think, now what? I should flash a new ROM or TWRP or something to get the benefits of root? I know I don't know what I'm doing, but would someone clarify where I'm at before I get myself into trouble. Explain it like you're writing a "Rooting For Dummies" book.?

Well that's a damn near impossible question to answer without knowing why you rooted, what method you used, what you already know in general, and what you know that is not accurate because 98% of android users are fed horribly inaccurate, potential dangerous, and just wrong information. If I can determine what you want outta your device and what you know and don't (and shouldn't lol), I can tell you exactly what you need to do and how to do it and if I can't answer something I know someone who can.
Basically what are you trying to achieve? I can tell you This much, kingroot has gotta go if you want to do anything really cool or past very basic stuff...

rooting n new rom for thunderbolt???

Hi ! Well technically im not new to the forum b/c i have a nexus one and use that ... part of the forum a lot but im tryin to help a friend right now.. He has a thunderbolt, and got it pretty close to initial release. He's had many problems with it like periodic need of restarts, and losing like a decent portion of is battery AFTER restart (example before start, 50%, after restart, 40-45%...), text msging problems like (example... "Hi" to John Doe, *send*... it does not appear in the window, go back to the messaging home screen... u see "Hi" sent to Harry Potter instead.. doesnt happen a lot but business wise, once or twice can cause the lost of business... =/ luckily clients have forgave him so far...
and of cos theres like other problems thats hes been experiencing but those are two that came to mind just now..
so wondering, what procedures to help him root/flash a new rom so he can get a better and faster use of his phone (OH another thing, its working quite slow... D i was lookin around the thunderbolt forum, theres roms like synergyrom and of cos cm7 that are really popular.. then reading in some areas, using the revolutionary method is a good way to start to..root? is the revolutionary method the way to get the bootloader or what.. lol yah im noob >_> surprising i got cm7 on my n1 lol
Many people would ***** at ya for not reading the stickies... naughty naughty. In any case yes you want revolutionary. And yes it provides s-off and an unlocked bootloader. Alternatively for the random SMS problem you can just download an alternate messaging app. I use chomp. If I helped ya hit the thanks!
My name is Revos I'm a recovering flashaholic running Liquid Gingerbread 3.0
All your questions answered Here
i actually did read it.. just didnt really understand it cuz it was different then how it was done for my nexus one...
If there are parts that you do not completely understand go ahead and ask specific questions. Nobody will be upset if you are trying to make sure you know what your doing. Which parts did you not understand?
so what i understand so far... you need to obtain S-Off and unlocked boot loader..
theres a few ways in obtaining that? mr1/ota permroot or revolutionary.. there are people saying revolutionary (or the quick n easy way) has a higher chance in bricking phone.. is that true? b/c i wanna use the way that has the lowest or one of the lower chance to brick the phone.. Yah i want it done fast but i want it done the safest way too.. was reading the instructions and it says it uses the clockwork recovery.. iirc.. there was between clockwork and amun-ra ??
for the most part it looks kind of similar to the process i did with my nexus one..
after it being rooted and having the bootloader... do i just look for those custom firmware packages like uhm cm7 or synergy (or what do you people recommend that you like??) and flash it from sd card in bootloader??
Of all the reading I did about revolutionary I didnt notice anyone bricking their phone. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but it seemed to run smooth for most everyone that followed the directions.
You will install CCW while your running the revolutionary.
And to answer your last question, yes you will just download whatever rom you choose to the root of your sdcard, flash it from recovery.
*sigh* friend hesistant to get it done because he has insurance on the phone... guess ill wait until he's willing ahaha thx for the help !
All the more reason to root. Worst case he bricks it. If he doesn't brick it he will learn how much more fun and enjoyable the Tbolt is with the ability to flash new roms, or change whatever he wants.
Insurance covers phones "accidentally" dropped into the toilet...
yah hes worried if it gets bricked.. hes all for the fixing ...
The only way you are going to brick your phone is if you don't follow the directions. Just make sure you do a nandroid backup through the bootloader and go from there. If your friend is to afraid to do it I'm sure you can check Craigslist for people to root it for you. I'd do it for you but I don't know if the forum allows it.

Tell him to grow some and root. Hes gonna have to eventually do it anyways to avoid issues like hes been having. Of he does an insurance claim they're just gonna send him a refurbished one and who's to say all the issues were solved with that one after it was sent back? I don't get how people can complain, ask for help and then be reluctant. Whatever you do make sure you sit him down and walk him through it otherwise if he has any issues he'll be calling and blaming you. Been there and laughed and laughed. Good luck.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm in the same boat almost. I still haven't rooted and rom'd yet for similar reasons. That said, I'm pretty close, especially with the logging fiasco. From what I've read, there haven't been any legit reports of bricking due to Revolutionary, at least used correctly. Most people say it's only when you try an old method of rooting or otherwise don't follow directions.

Trust me... It's a LOT less scary after you do it than before. I've helped walk some people through the old ADB method with success and Revolutionary is idiot proof by comparison.

[Q] Cyanogenmod One-Click

Sorry if this is the wrong section, I figured ROMs would be better but I can't post there, I was told to post here.
I'm new to all this ROM stuff, but I *REALLY* like the look of some of them. I'm good with technology, but when it comes down to (what seems like) a million terms and such to learn and install (what seems like) a hundred things to get it in here, I get confused.
For this reason, Cyanogenmod's One-Click installer appeals to me. I'd love to use Cyanogenmod when it's stable on my Moto G, but I can't wrap my head around some of this stuff, and I'm terrified something will go wrong. I couldn't seem to find an answer though, will the One-Click Installer support the Moto G when it's stable? Do all devices (assuming they officially support Cyanogenmod)?
Thanks
I've never done it on moto g yet but have on other phones and on tables and trust me it's very easy to install the old way.
You can't really go wrong, once you are rooted and backed up. And there is good tools for that on here.

Still read about the risks of bricking the device, would rather not go down that route. I'm just not confident enough.
Plus rooting requires doing a fair bit just on the moto G when I last Googled it, otherwise I would have. On my Huawei Ascend G510 (last phone) it was literally 'Plug in USB cable, run program, click 'Root', '
In my opinion it is the better way to get first confident with those things.
A one click installer is nice, sure.
But i think it is always better to understand what is really happening behind a one click installer by learning doing the unlocking, rooting and flashing steps manually. If something goes wrong, then you have learned what to do in case of a bad flash or if you wanna go back to stock.
Sure many devices got easy installers which made life much more simple. But the more the tools made it simplier the more helpless the people got when something went wrong.
Sure you can brick your device in one or the other way. And i had also a few hours in the last years when the sweat was on my forehead. But i could always come out of these situations. My expereience says, correct me somebody if i am wrong, that only by flashing roms you will hardly brick your device.
I think many people do just something, whitout reading really about that what they are doing. They first do something and then they start reading. Often also steps are described in the OP and people are still asking the same questions. That shows, that there are people but they do not really read carefully what is writte in a guide/tutorial/howto. It is not really neccessary to go too deep into theory for flashing devices. But the basic steps, are e.g. how fastboot or adb works. What a recovery is, how it can be used and so on...
If i am not wrong then this was also a reason why the CyanogenMod installer was removed vom Google Play Store.
If you don't know how to help yourself, then this is only a one way direction. And here we have 5 millions users at XDA. I guess other 100 of millions do not even now about XDA or similar sites where they can find help.
Just my 5 cents......

From knowing computers, I agree to some extent. I do want to learn this, but it feels like a load to learn at once, and I would say the same thing had someone said the same thing about computers. (Well no, I wouldn't, because by installing an OS it's pretty difficult to 'brick' a computer- but it's good to understand anyway.)
I have learned a fair amount about the ROMs, but when you start talking about unlocking the bootloader, flashing recovery and the works then dangle a one click installer under my nose... You see my point?
The one-click seems better.

I think this is exactly the point. Installing an operating system is much easier than flashing a rom. Actually the only thing what can happen on a pc is that you install the os on the wrong partition and you could loose your data or you delete the wrong partition. Okay you have to know how t bring your pc to the point to start from a CD or usb stick. As you said, you can not brick your pc in that way. But that is the point i think.
As i said before. In my knowledge the Cyanogenmod installer is a one way direction. Once the normal user want to go back he is in trouble. And that is the thing what the most users will not understand. But when the trouble is there then.... then, then they understand .... they are f**ked if they do not know to find help.
Yeah, but two different persons, two different point of views.
I accept yours. But i don't share the same opinion. At least not yet.
Maybe when the day comes and all that flashing stuff is made for the public. (What i doubt.)
OK I found compatibility list and moto g isn't on it http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/CyanogenMod_Installer

I don't mean to sound, I don't know, like I'm taking the community for granted, but I know of XDA and some other websites, so wouldn't I (highly likely) find help if I had a problem? (I'm a little worried how that'll come across, I mean it as a praise for places like this)
I think however the one-click installer is to target the average person.
I did see the list of supported devices, but the Moto G is still in nightly builds, so I figured it would come in stable (if it does), which I mentioned in my first post- do most (or all) supported devices get support for the installer?

[Q]StraightTalk/Verizon SCH-S968C Can I root it using Kingo or Saferoot?

It was inevitable that I came here. Destiny. After spending what seems to be half of my life rooting around the internet (lurking here was at least half of it) trying to learn how to root and unlock my other phones I have been led here to ask for help. So thanks in advance.
OK, I came close to bricking phones but so far I haven't. Today I decided I need help because, let's face it, rooting around these 3,000+ post threads to figure the right way is pretty daunting!
This phone is unmodified and I am not worrying about ROMs at this point. I just need to root it to get it to the halfway point. Can I use SafeRoot or Kingo to do this? The reason I'm not sure of what to do is this has 4.1.2 and it seems most people are concerned about rolling it back rather than forward. Plus, from what I can see, it seems 4.3 something is where a lot of these tools want you to be before moving ahead.
Can you advise me of the path of least resistance on this thing that will still allow me to unlock it when the time comes? Please forgive the typos and Thanks!

No harm in trying those root methods to see if they work. As far as unlocking I'm not sure if the VZW method will work for the straight talk version

Just making sure, no root for OF1?

Just switched from iPhone to S6, love the phone but wish I could root. Kinda confused on the whole thing so just making sure there is no way to downgrade, upgrade, or root my current version? This is because verizon restricts the bootloader? If it is true and rooting is no an option right now then can anyone give me a very rough estimate of when I might be able to root. I understand there is no way to know but since I have never rooted maybe you would know how long these things normally take. Thanks for all your support.

These things have no common time line or outcome. It could be exploited tomorrow or never. Who knows. And yes of1 is currently not exploitable by any method.

In serious need of insight

So I'm not a phone savy guy. Nor network. But due to the recent events that seem to be unfolding on my previous phone and now, apparently, my f2 pro, I've been trying to learn as much as possible, in hopes of attaining some basic to better than average knowledge of things so I can determine if I'm just turning into a paranoid schizophrenic or if my assumptions and instincts are correct.
Geez, that was a long first sentence.
Can someone tell me how many apps (both system and user) are preinstalled on a f2 pro that's running on android 11. Because I swear someone's hacked me phone or Google account or and most probably both.

On stock rom approximately 50 apps and 270 system applications.
And you may have accepted the advertisement during the initial setup.
Change the password of Xiaomi and google accounts.

I haven't done a count yet, HOWEVER i did manage to figure out how to unlock my boot loader. I have yet to have rooted my phone but I know that's what I want to do to remove all this CRAP that's preloaded, if not for any other reason.
I've researched and read and everything else but I'm still unsure of what the proper procedure is or how to do it for that matter. I can't afford to brick my phone but I'm willing to take the risk at this point. Any body wanna help a brutha out?

Im hoping to root my phone soon! I obviously don't think im ready, personally, to do this on my own because i still lack the knowledge of all the proceedures and in what order to initiate them. With that said, would owning/using rooted a phone be a bad idea for the average joe if they dontveven know how to root themselves? Also if i do root im considering using one click or dr.fone! AOSP roms(not all) requires root to have the certified play store and safetynet pass.
EU rom no need.
Why root?
Use magisk for root only.
