[Completed] Completing (once and for all) swap partition method Huawei Y360 - XDA Assist

Hey all, let me just start by saying that I have searched, read, tried so much already, with so much information (specially from here) to apply a swap partition to increase ram on my phone.
Ill start from the beggining..
Phone rooted, I tried ram expander app, was a bit dissapointed because of the constant internet connection needed and the fact that after some time, my notification for ram expander (saying total memory:2048 for example) would dissapear and eventually my game crash. Maybe the swap file stopped working for some reason. Doesnt matter..
Now I am trying to set a swap partition on the phone and as far as I have been able to, this has been the only method that I have already noticed some difference.
So i started with this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934360
And up to this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422061
And this last one is where I am currently at..
I have, once again, rooted phone, busybox installed, root explorer installed, terminal emulator installed.^
I have partitioned my micro sd card, that is class 10 HC1 45mb/s (Kingston) with a normal primary partition, fat32 (just like on the links, leaving space basically for 2048mb for swap partition) I created a second Linux swap partition with the leftover space (2048mb).
I havent understand fully if 2gb swap partition is too much or if I can just have 1gb (which is shame cause ram expander could go for 4gb, if it wasnt strangely working on my phone...)
Im currently stuck on step 2 of the second link..
I have the install-recovery.sh file, which everytime I try to add the code, it saves but when reopening it shows as if I didnt add no lines..
Now the rest parts I dont know what to do, besides not showing the lines added I dont know what is rebooting to recovery, I dont know what is flashing a file (in this case, init.d-autorunner-stock.zip, which I already copied to my sd) and the rest.
Basically I wanted to know if 2048mb swap partition is possible and how to get there.
I never added a custom ROM, its factory settings about ROM, but my phone does support swap. I will provide an image about this.
http://postimg.org/image/sydbst8yv/
Supposedly I only have 185mb at my disposal from swap partition? Im sure im wrong, maybe...
Please, I hope this post is acceptable and obeys the norms of this forum, like I said before I have been reading and trying so much for some days, maybe already 2 weeks now. I made this post as a last resort.
My sincere thanks ahead for everyone, maybe this can help other people aswell.

Help please! Lost SDcard Partition!

Hey fellow devs,
I have been trying to configure my partitions on my 4GB SDcard for around 7 hours now..... it's currently 4:43am CST and I've lost it.
I researched and researched to find out the best way to create the FAT32/EXT2 partitions for my SDcard and i believed i had it and now I'm left with only 2.2GB/4GB available to me from my FAT32 SDcard! I can't create an EXT2 partition anymore or another FAT32 because there is no space allocated. I've been using Partition Manager 9.0 for the process but I'm kinda really freaked out now. Someone please tell me that i haven't friend my SDcard.
What I have been working on is trying to get my apps & caches saved to my SDcard so i have save my internal memory and stay away from Lag spikes. I currently have JFv1.42_RC_33 Modded created by LucidREM. It is supposed to auto save all apps/caches to the SDcard but of course you have to first have the FAT32/EXT2 combo. Well i thought i had it so i went and flashed my G1 with that Modified build.
1. Formatted SDcard after having FAT32/EXT2 partitions created because i was trying to follow the new auto updated from another post by using Android SDK(ADB) and running appsToSD.bat which failed.
Note: I'm not sure but i think that is where i went wrong by formatting the SDcard after the partitions and not before.
2. Went for LucidREM's method right after.....
3. Powered down > Booted from Camera+Power > Updated from update.zip(JFv1.42_RC_33 Modded > Home+Back for reboot.
4. Got back to home screen and all my old stuff is still there. Apps and all because they were saved to the phone's internal memory(Phew)
5. Went to Terminal and did
a. $su
b. #copy.sh app
c. #copy.sh data (OPTIONAL)
Failed.
So lastly i decided to check my partitions in Partition Manager 9.0 and found that my EXT2 partition is completely gone and the 1.5GB memory went with it!!
So now I'm stuck with 2.5GB FAT32 SDcard. Can't rollback or create EXT2 since all primary slots are taken up.
I know this is a long post but I'm like at the end of my rope. I know my G1 is pretty safe but I have no clue about my SDcard.
Please Advise.............
P.S I'm gonna go to sleep now.....Lol..... 7 hrs is too long to be focused.....
Thanks Devs

beanz,
sleep deprivation is never a good thing when playing with partitions. first of all. Secondly, i feel your frustrations... i have been there recently. So here is where i offer help.
You are in a good spot because your g1 still has all the apps / data untouched
As far as the sd card goes. i would back up any information you have on it that you dont want to loose. here are a few tricks you can try.
- i dont know if your running Paragon Partition Manager from windows or not but i would make a bootable cd and run it from outside windows. it worked exponentially better for me that way.
-i would also suggest making your ext2 partition no bigger than 500mb. even if you download 100 apps you wont fill that up. and it seems to have less issues the smaller it is.
-also if your card is not a class 6 lucidRem doesnt advise moving the data.
hope this helps
Perdid0,
Thanks for your prompt response to my post. I have just a few Q&A to your response.
1. I am running Partition Manager 9.0 on Windows XP SP3
2. My 4GB SD card only has 2.2GB on 1 partition (FAT32)
3. I'm not able to add another partition such as an EXT2 because there is no primary spot available or allocated space. That is what Partition Manager 9.0 told me.
So.......
1. How do I check if my SD card is Class 6? App or prog?
2. Since I can't create a partition on it now is it trashed?
3. I'm thinkin just to wait and get a 16GB Class 6 or 8 if I find one.
4. But until then if I am able to undo the damage to my current one that would be great.
Thanks for ur help with my Questions.

[Q] SD only recognizes sd-ext partition!

My SD card may be nearing EOL. Yesterday my Shift all of a sudden stopped recognizing it, would tell me my SD was safe to unmount and wouldn't mount it. When put into the PC it gave me an error saying something about "being unable to mount dev super block" and wouldn't read or format it. Luckily CWM still worked to partition it.
Now again this morning I'm having the same problem. (Yay, Mondays right?) Anyone have any thoughts other than buy a new SD? Or course I'd like to but money's tight so I'd like to delay that. Plus, this one's only 6 months old.
Also, anyone know how to create an sd-ext partition bigger than 4gb without a PC? (I'll be away from mine while at work and am very impatient) If nothing else I may just partition the whole 16gb as sd-ext and deal with figuring out how to make apps save data to the internal partition (I think there're mods for that somewhere).
Any help or insight is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Sounds like your card might be done . But you can try SD Formatter , it's worked a couple of times for me on cards that were supposedly done. As for the sd-ext Partition, I think you might be able to do one that big with TWRP. I know when I was messing around trying to decide on mine I took the optional setting why past 2GB. I settled on just over a 1GB of partition .

Thanks for the tip! And I can now confirm that TWRP does allow the sd-ext partition to be as large as one wants. I'll probably try that program you linked.

need explicit CM9/10 instructions for MK802-not working

Hi all,
Yes, I'm a newb here at xda, but not to the hacking scene. As my interests are in custom Firmware development/modification I am having to post here in General because of the 10 post limit for the Development forum portion. I hope that I may get a response here, but worried that as with most "newbie chat" type forums, they seem to get ignored.
Regardless, I have been trying to install the CM9 and CM10 to my MK802 PC thumbstick without any luck. The end result is either a bootloop with no video or a blank screen with no video output altogether.
I have been using instructions from here, but there seems to be a simple step that I am missing.
All requirements for Superuser, busybox, and smanager have been fulfilled, I am able to install CWM to do my factory resets and flashing, but I am not successful in the flashing. I'm not sure if I need to resize my system partitions, but that is something I've a feeling may affect the install. I've not seen any statements on the requirement, only that if the system partition is less than 350MB or so, to avoid flashing the gapps file, which I've followed.
I've attempted this on the FW710B, and the NEW03 image from the Rikomagic website as well.
If anyone has any ideas or can point me in the right direction to an already customized image I can flash with Livesuit, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks again,
T3ch42
optimal swap and / partition sizes??
Well, a little bit of an update. I took the plunge and repartitioned my internal SD memory. I chose 512MB for the system, and 64MB for the swap. That may have been not enough for the swap, but this was a new test.
This particular iteration was successful. I got the CyanogenMod boot screen and everything this time. The boot took a little while, hopefully just the initial boot.
It seems that this would be a pretty big step to take, but I really can't say that I saw mention of resizing the internal memory as being required.
If anyone has suggestions as to the optimal swap and system sizes, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

I believe that I used the partition tool through the recovery app that you install, but I'm beginning to wonder. CT says that you cannot resize it. I have installed the Uberoid image a few times, and that may have resized it for me in all actuality. I did notice that when I had a SD card in the machine, that the SD card was resized instead of the internal memory which threw a kink in the works. After CM9 was installed, I wasn't able to use the internal memory.
Still doing some tests though.
May have more info in a little bit.
What steps did you take to get CWM on the stick. I tried several all not giving me a screen on reboot.

Install the Uberoid img through live suit and format.
After it boots, check your internal storage. It should say about 1.69GB
install the recovery, and boot to it.
Do a factory reset in recovery as usual, and then install your cm9 or cm10 images(the zips).
Install the gapps and compatability zips and reboot.
That should be it.
I think that's the steps I took that were successful.
If I tried to partition it myself, I found that the internal sd would not be recognized, even after trying the format memory zip that is used to fix th ad card.
Hope that helps.
I may have not looked closely enough.
You're having trouble with the cwm install?
For that, I just installed su, updated that to the newest version, click on the i and let it check the installed version.
Install busybox and the script installer. Use the cwm 4.0.4, I believe it is, and install the recovery image to the mk802.
The recovery.img needs to be in the main memory to run the script. Once you've run both of the scripts as root by clicking the little button in the script installer, then the mk802 should boot into recovery.
If this is what you meant, then hope this clears it up.

[Q] Can't move apps with Link2SD

I have tried to move apps to sdcard with Link2SD and other similar apps. It fails and says that I can't move them because my device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage.
Here is a screenshot of the message
Howdy!
as far as I have found out (and been following this problem on and off since I got my plus a few months ago) there is no proper way to move apps to your SD card. Best solution (and the one I am using) is to partition your SD Card then use Link2SD to link apps on your SD. You can set it up to do so automatically for every new app you install. As for partitioning I found this guide the best since I'd never attempted it before but it works really well.

Do we need to root phone for that?
If yes then what's the point of making partitions.

Well, my phone was rooted anyway but I think Link2SD needs it. As to why exactly it needs to be partitioned I can only tell you that when my card wasn't partitioned as suggested in the guide I linked then Link2SD wouldn't even offer to link the apps. I am no expert as I pointed out but this was a solution that worked for me. It may well be someone else found something better that doesn't require partitioning. To my knowledge doing things this way requires root AND the partitioned SD card.

Did you try Apps to SD? Ill be rooting very soon and see what happens. If none works then last stop would be to make partition.
Okay I did root my phone successfully. Still cant move apps. Now going to do this partition system. Hope it works !

Yeah, I tried Apps to SD as well but without success. You get exactly the message as the OP said here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42863865&postcount=2
Same goes for Link2SD however once you partitioned it at least offers you to link the apps. But like I said that only happened after I did the partitioning. Beforehand it would not even offer that.
I am not entirely sure what or why Samsung did what they did in kinda blocking the moving of apps to an external card but it it really blows considering that you only get a somewhat limited amount of storage to begin with.

Hello again brother. Same here. Before partitioning there was not any option to create link even.
I did the partitioning stuff did work. I can successfully transfer my apps into the ext2 partition i created. (Btw which partition format did you go with?)
How ever I believe folder mount is still a better option as it does not require you to create partitions and works directly such as you enter a brand new card without partition and move apps into card and then it links it. But the only drawback is you need to purchase the app :

Well ext4 didn't work for me idky though ext2 did and it worked. But creating partitions is pure junk and it would reduce the life and speed of your card (its something i believe) so I deleted the partitions and brought my card into original format.
And yes man Folder Mount is something we need ! It does exactly what both of us want. Simply move all the app data from internal memory to external memory and as soon as you move you have empty space on your internal storage and external storage is occupied. Its simple and very clear and easy to use. Just 3 clicks i believe and its done. And another good stuff is it will show you how much an app is occupying internal space and then moves it into SD card and also doesn't show important system apps to move as moving them creates problem.
There's a free version to try which would allow you to move 3 apps only and if you want more then buy the app for 2 Dollars.
Its developed by @madmack. Do check it out. The sad part for me is I dont have a credit card nor Paypal is available in my country
And i need this app badly !

why is this happening??

i have been unable to get to the bottom of it. really could use some help. this tablet is running cm10.2. only sees 4.59 of memory.... claims to be the total onboard memory. makes no sense to me. if cm10 takes up 3.5 then the total should still be 8 with system files taking up 3+gb. but this is not the case...
thank you in advance!!!

For crying out loud... I gave you the answer. You didn't like it, but that's your problem. I also asked you (and anyone else) to provide any proof of more internal storage on the 8GB model. No response, as expected. If you somehow remember getting full 8GB on stock ROM, as opposed to what you are getting now, you were hallucinating.
Let me try again. There is TOTAL storage, which is 8GB. And there is USER-ACCESSIBLE storage, which is much less. Unless you go really hardcore, and start playing with non-standard partition sizes on your tablet, you will NOT get more than approx. 4.5GB available to you. It's a fact of life. Get over it. To better understand what I mean, open terminal console, and type "df" (without quotes). Check the total size of your internal sdcard partition (on stock, it's /storage/sdcard0, on CM it may be something else). This is the definitive answer to your question.
Me too dude, The box of the tablet, and on the back part says that is 8GB but is only 4,59GB. Why?
Because the storage divides in two the first part is for the system app, and system process. The other part is for your apps or other things.
This is not a problem it is normal on any device. Why do you need many storage?
Try to use FolderMount or Link2SD for your apps. FolderMount helped me a lot for the big games.

okay i am the type of cat who is able to admit when I am wrong... i am wrong!!! I am sorry about that because I could swear that when i had the stock rom in that it showed 8gb TOTAL memory but obviously less available memory. since I posted this thread I went back to stock just to prove myself wrong and again, you were right. it only shows 4.59gb which really is a surprise to me.
just so you know it's not that i didnt like your answer, its just that I really believed that i saw 8gb total. my bad dude.
now, if i am able to get a memory swap with cm10.2 working Ill be satisfied. any ideas?

Sorry, can't help you with this, because I am not a CM user, and, most importantly, I never used any storage swapping methods. One think I did try in the past was to use some app to mount specific folder(s) on external SD to present them as if it was an internal storage. Although it doesnt completely swap your int and ext storage, it works just fine in most cases (with some limitations). Basically, this is what Folder Mount is about (already suggested to you). I used DirectoryBind, which has long been abandoned, and doesn't work on newer Android versions. Many people are happy with Folder Mount, but you can also find other alternatives, like Super Mount from Lidroid (it's free, unlike Folder Mount). Look them up on Play Store, it might be a workable solution for you...
