Unlocked SHIELD Tablet on 5.1.1, refuses to accept custom recovery - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was on Marshmallow, got tired of the excessive battery drain and SD card limitations, and flashed back to Lollipop. I was able to flash TWRP, but then when I rebooted, I was told there was an update, so I reflashed the stock recovery and updated. Now I can't get back to TWRP. I flashed it repeatedly and every time I reboot into recovery, it's still on stock. I've lost root and nothing I've tried works. WTF?

Nevermind, I just tried flashing TWRP 2.8.7.1 and it worked. 2.8.7.3 apparently does not anymore.
Can a mod delete this?

[Q] Cannot get phone to boot

Randomly crashed this morning, now it is in a perpetual bootloop no matter what I do.
I have a Nexus S 4g
I did a factory reset and that didn't work.
I tried to use CWM USB mounting to copy over a new rom and that didn't work.
I updated CWM to the latest version and sideloaded CM10.1.2 and the latest gapps, and yet the bootloop persists. I'm positive that it installed both of these zips successfully.
My last resort was trying to return it to stock using a a 2.3.4 image and relocked and unrooted. Still won't boot up.
What can I do to fix this? I'm confused. Is it possible that my phone is entirely broken?

Contunuous bootloop into TWRP and will not power down

I have a 703L 16Gb on B012 and installed X2-B015-KangVIP ROM through TWRP.
All installed fine and I tried the ROM for a while.
Anyway there were too many Chinese Apps so I restored my TWRP backup and rebooted.
Now it continually boots into TWRP and won't even power off. I tried again to restore it, and earlier backups, but they all just boot into TWRP continually.
Any suggestions? I tried using a stock Recovery but the phone wont even boot into that, so reverted back to TWRP.

I think you must be flash the Boot img via fastboot,i think this fix the Problem.
Yes that worked thanks.

Bricked Shield (wifi) tablet after flashing 6.0 update

Last night, I downloaded the 6.0 update, copied the .zip to external storage, rebooted to CWM, and flashed it (successfully), then flashed SuperSU over it, cleared dalvik, and rebooted.
Since then, I'm stuck with the Nvidia boot screen. I can use Power/Vol Up to get in to fastboot, but when I try to boot back into recovery, the screen goes black, but goes back to the Nvidia boot screen instead of booting to recovery, even after flashing a recovery image to it via fastboot.
I can probably fix this with enough time and tinkering, but I just came back from a two week from vacation at work and don't have the time to futz around with this. Posting here in case someone already has an idea on what the problem is/how to fix this.
Update: I was able to get back into recovery using TWRP referenced in http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/unofficial-update-original-shield-t3281541. Direct link is https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24345424848487676.
I'm thinking this is a kernel issue.
This was a kernel issue. Flashing a older OTA (http://ota.nvidia.com/ota/data/post...wf-full_ota-36442_589.1541.20150826095201.zip) and booting normally, then rebooting to bootloader and fastbooting the CWM image worked. I'm restoring from a backup I took before flashing the update last night, then flashing TWRP, backing up, and trying this all over again.
Thank you, I was having the same issue :good:
Have the exact same issue, except that now, for some reason, I can't even get the device to turn on!

Anybody managed to root 5.0 on K1?

It seems I am missing something
Was on stock rooted MM, TWRTP 3.0.2-2.
Downloaded full OTA, flashed, rebooted, works fine, no root (naturally).
Back to TWRP, flashed SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip, reboot system, stuck on NVidia logo forever.
Back to TWRP, flashed full OTA again, rebooted, works fine again.
Back to TWRP, flashed SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip, same, stuck on logo.
Tried doing adb sideload SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip, same, stuck on logo.
So just flashed the full OTA again and the tablet is working fine, but not rooted.
Any advice?

Not sure I got any advice since you've already tried what I would've suggested. I sideloaded SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip by booting into TWRP through fastboot and it worked for me. I read in another thread that some people were stuck on the nvidia logo for a good 15 mins and then it was fine. How long did you wait? I flashed TWRP after rooting because flashing it through fastboot wouldn't stick, but I can't see how that could matter.
I flashed the full OTA with Flashfire on my K1 and it kept root. I already did for the last update and it worked well.
Now, however I'm having issues with charging. Not sure whether it is related to root. It hasn't been enough of a pain yet to remove root.

I've been following the threads throughout the day and it seems to be a common problem after using flashfire. There's a thread on a potential fix here:

Phone keeps rebooting to TWRP but the ROM works

Not really sure where I should have put this but have a weird issue. I have a droid turbo xt1254 that I have rooted and flashed many times. The most recent, today, I accidentally did a full system wipe and when I went to reflash the rom already in twrp, it gave me an error.
I then tracked down cm13 for my phone, which had worked previously and reinstalled it but every time I reboot the phone, it goes straight into twrp.
I have found that If I reboot into the bootloader, I can choose factory and whichever rom I have installed works until I reboot.
Can anyone help me stop this and get it to boot straight into the rom?
