so even without the phone being released yet, were starting to get a picture of what features it has, and doesn't have. since the development section is reserved for actual development, I'm going to share what my development todo list looks like, for some essential tweaks once the device is released.
if you've got a good idea, or useful tweak you think of, you're encouraged to share it.
anyone's welcome to hijack my thread as they'd like, the more open, the more we can collaborate on each project, whether it be one of mine, or one i have nothing to do with~
TODO:
'Privacy Mode': music won't shift over to loudspeaker during notifications when headphones are attached. (note* Boeffla kernel implemented this in sgs3)
long press volume up/down track skip. (not sure if sgs4 will have this or not, but assuming its missing, it'll be a fairly easy mod) (note* possibly first todo).
freaking remove parental controls from camera. samsung lovesss to be a natzi when it comes to when you can use YOUR camera; camera wont work when battery <15%, or during music, in call, or during a media scans, shutter sound, and auto focus sounds are immutable... considering sgs1/2/and 3 all required custom modding to make them functional, its safe to assume well again need to play this little game with samsung yet again ...
keep screen off during notifications option
it may look short but theres already a massive amount of time involved.
- CRT OFF.
- Centre Clock.
- Depending how the sound quality comes out off the DAC, developing it via kernel.

So, I was able to modify the visual grid overlay that appears when reversing with my MCTB unit, but following the same proceedure with my MCTD unit, I get nothing. I see the backup camera image, but there is no overlay. The file is exactly the same (pixel depth, size, alpha channel, & it's a png). I've even extracted the MTCBackView.apk from the MCTD unit & replaced the bg_distance.png within it with the modified one & still see nothing. BTW the situation is the same with the May16 Joying OEM release & the Malaysk v3 release. Any ideas?
Update: So I've upgraded to Malaysk's V4. I extracted the APK, extracted the png, edited the png with my overlay, repackaged it, & it still crashes the reversing overlay app. Any ideas? The only thing I'm thinking is the original overlay is 5.5K. My edited version is 33K. Perhaps the size is causing the crash, but it worked fine on the MTCB.
Found the problem - file permissions. All is good now. See this link for details on the fix.
Just a question. Are the original lines from android? Or is the camera itself drawing these lines? Because i found a camera on Ebay which specifies that you can cut a wire if you want reverse guide lines. If you cut it , you get the lines, if you don't, you get no lines.
So i was wondering, if the lines are from the camera, i can buy the right camera (without lines) and make a overlay via the MTCD system
Hope to hear from you soon!
Yes, original overlay is from Android. I've used my overlay on 2 different cams with no prob.
I thought the reverse video was totally outside android? That's why android doesn't need to be booted first to display reverse video, it will display it directly
The video is external to Android, but the overlay can be part of Android & or come directly from your camera. If I start my car & put it in reverse in about the first 10 secs, I get the reversing video, but there is no overlay displayed (my cam doesn't have an overlay built in). If I wait longer than 10 secs to engage reverse, then the overlay displays.
Hi people, in this video is the only solution I found for the troublesome Instagram zoom problem. You just have to follow the steps seen in the video (This video is not mine).
YOUTUBE VIDEO
Steps if you don't want to see the video:
- enable programmer options
-go to the drawing section
-in that section, go to the smallest width
-switch to 400dp (432 comes from factory)
-go to gestures, switch to 3 buttons
And finally, if you need to go back to Android 10 gestures, the wrong Instagram zoom will come back.
If you have any problem with an application due to the modification of the DP values, just go back to the original values: 432DP.
UPDATE:
A second option is download Threads from Instagram. This app uses the same instagram filters (sice it also belongs to this one). Also with this app, it is not necessary to perform the previous steps to avoid zooming in the selfies. You only need download the photos and then upload them the original app.

Maybe, try to follow the same steps and then comment what happened
I have found a solution but you need to root the device and it is using the Screen Shift application. You can find it in Playstore.
Once downloaded and allowed root access, you can create a resolution for the application to run, in this case it can be Instagram or Snapchat, and you set a resolution of 16: 9, the maximum allowed for a G9 Plus is 1080x1920.
It is a good solution, it hurts that it looks black at the top and bottom.
Hope I can fix the problem for you until Instagram and Snapchat decide to schedule 21: 9.
Best regards,

Just realized that this issue is not happening on android 11 anymore. Months after the update I decided to went back to the original values (432DP) and it's working fine (in fact idk if it was corrected by an update from instagram or the OS, but anyways)
In my experience the default gcam struggles with landscape photos making the grass look very strange when used on a large screen as a desktop wallpaper. I also find the zoomed in detail pretty poor on the newest update compared to when I first bought the 6a.
I found this gcam mod from MWP called "Gcam_8.4.300_beta6" that seems to fix both of those problems. The only bug I found with it is sometimes the image looks very blue or very orange, but this goes away after restarting the app.
The only settings that I changed from default were in Settings -> Advanced -> Super res zoom (ON) and also Settings -> Advanced -> Lib-patcher -> Custom Libs (MWP-NoiC).
I find that Custom Libs setting to have the best detail from my limited testing side by side but it does make the photo slightly less vibrant than the default google camera app.

I also tried the new beta7 but it crash looped for me so I went back to the beta6.
