Flip4Silence 2.0 BETA
Silence notifications when your phone is flipped - battery friendly!
Flip4Silence is back! It's just an BETA version but it already serves its purpose: Silence notifications when the phone lays upside down on the table! And the best thing about this, it doesn't eat up your battery (like other tools do)!
I just finished the BETA and I'm currently testing it. But as I think it could be useful to someone in this state I just made it public. Please be so kind and keep in mind that this is not the final and probably will not act as reliable as it should. I will do my best to fix any bugs which are found, so please report your problems back.
If you are a ROM chief or have a custom ROM installed:
I have planned to migrate this tool to a "one for all" tone silencer. Unfortunately this requires a patch (which is attached to this post) to allow the user to set the tones as the system defaults. The patch is also posted on the AOSP gerrit and may be accepted (don't know if they like the patch) and I will try to integrate it into CM9.
If you are a ROM chief and would like to integrate the patch and the (upcoming) tool feel free to contact me via pm.
If you are a user of a custom ROM feel free to encourage your ROM chief to integrate the patch.
Feel free to contact me if you have integrated the patch somewhere, especially if it's a ROM for the Galaxy Nexus or Nexus One as I would like to use it on my own phones
Attention:
If you had a previous version installed I'm very sorry to tell you that you have to REASSIGN every single ringtone you have selected with F4S Ultimate before again due to a internal incompatible change!
What it gives you:
Silence nearly every notification!
Is planned to be a full replacement for every ringtone picker (please tell me what you want from your ringtone picker)
It's nice to your battery as it's only active when something happens and not all the time.
More control over the sensitivity used (no more "low", "high", "normal", you are in charge now!).
MP3 ringtones are now supported! The UI is not really finished, it's at least planned to add the album covers to the list.
"Silence when user is present" - never get a notification sound again when you are playing with your device and don't need a audio notification.
What it can't do:
You can't use it to put silenced ringtones into the default settings. Please never ever put a silenced ringtone into your phone ringer or the default notification sound. It will just not work (and will never), trust me. However, you can put in a "unsilenced" ringtone (more later).
Currently the sensors will report strange results if you have vibration on while a ringtone is played. It lacks a good filtering, so it's not really usable currently.
How to use it?
It has currently no settings dialog at all, it is just a alternative to pick a ringtone. When you select somewhere a "Choose a ringtone now" button it will be an option which you can launch.
When you select your tones with the tool it will more or less look like the standard ringtone picker with some exceptions. On the bottom you will see a list with all ringtones you may pick from. When you select them, they will be played as a preview to you (just like the stock ringtone picker does). When you have found your ringtone just hit the tick button at the top bar and you are done. It will now silence this (and only this) notification when the phone lays on its display. When you want to discard your selection just hit the cross on the top, the back button of your phone or the home button, it's your choice.
The really interesting thing is the speaker icon at the top bar. It works the following way:
When you see the muted speaker (speaker with X) the ringtone will be silenced when you hit the tick button (sure, it will only be muted when the phone lays upside down). But sometimes you want a sound so be played everytime and not only when the phone lays with its back on the table. Then you can press the speaker at the top and it will switch over to a unmuted speaker. When you now hit the tick the selected tone will never be muted by the tool.
You can now start over and replace every notification sound with a one selected via this tool. Just pick a tone and hit the tick at the bar and you are done.
I'm currently using gingerbread and was able to replace the tones in the following applications:
Stock SMS/MMS
gTalk
Google+
Facebook
Flip4Silence
How does this sensitivity slider work?
It allows you to set the exact degree when Flip4Silence should recognize the phone as "lays on its screen". The range is from 0 (lays exactly on its screen) to 90 degree (stands on its bottom).
You can change the value with the slider or with the plus and minus button to a value which should fit your need (it lacks a testing mode, sorry :/).
The green part of the slice on the left is a visualization of the "snap area" where Flip4Silence will recognize the phone should be silent. You can transfer it to the real world when you put your phone with its bottom on the table which would be 90 degree. When you now tilt it slowly down to it's screen it would be 0. So you have actually moved it on 90 degrees of a circle which is what the image tried to tell you.
The settings are now this way because people reported that LOW and HIGH weren't enough to trigger it the way they wanted it. The dialog still lacks a "choose from presets" option but this will hopefully be added in the future.
As a hint here are the settings known from F4S 1.0 (which will suit the most people)
High: 20 degree
Normal: 25 degree
Low: 30 degree
So you say it's now save to use it to pick global ringtones?
Yes, in general it is. The picker maintains now a blacklist for Activities which aren't able to handle the special ringtones we return. This blacklist currently only has the stock settings blacklisted so it should work for most devices. But HTC/Motorola/Samsung may have changed ROMs in a way that they also changed the identifier for the SystemSettings. In this cases the blacklist will not work until I have added them
So as it's more or less save, here is the warning again:
Please note the fact that you should never ever use a "silenced" ringtone for the ringer or the default notification sound. The new BETA tries to prevent you from doing so (the little speaker on the top is not drawn) but it may fail! If you see a speaker in your Default Notification/Ringtone picker than please hit the "Report usage" button in Flip4Silence ultimate so I can add it to the blacklist.
What does this "Report usage" button do again?
As stated above it will send a report to me about the places where you have used Flip4Silence Ultimate to select a ringtone. Please only send the manual report if you have found out that your System Settings is not blocked from setting a silenced ringtone (as described above). Please also leave a short note here that you have send a report. Reports contain the same data as crashreports, so nothing is really special about them.
"Silence when user is present" does what?
Did it ever annoyed you to hear notifications when you got your device in your hand? Did you ever thought "Damn, shut up! I have seen the notification, no need to play a sound...".
If yes, then I have a solution for you: "Silence when user is present" does simply what is says, it blocks the notification sound when you are currently fiddling with your device and don't need another acoustic notification about a new message or anything else.
Of course it only works with sound which were set with this app and currently the switch is on a global base (will likely change in an upcoming version).
Okay, sounds good so far, where can I get it?
I will attach the newest version and the previous one to this post whenever an update occures. You can also download it on the Android Market
Why is this nifty app not translated into [INSERT LANGUAGE HERE]?
I will contribute at least a German translation once the strings in the program have settled down (one or two releases before the first stable will be released). If your favorite language is missing and you are willing to translate it by yourself please contact me and I will hand the localization files when the app has reached the pre stable state.
The icons used are nice, but the application icon is damn ugly dude!
Yea, I know. I had to make some of my own when I developed Flip4Silence so the quality is far from good. While I like the overall theme (the phone and the sleep indication) it's not really pretty as I'm more the coding guy than a designer. If you are a designer or know someone who would like to make some icons for this app it would be awesome if you would contact me. I can't provide any money for this as it's only a fun project but it would be worth a credits entry and publicity (it depends, but I expect a broad usage around the globe, just like the original Flip4Silence ).
Uh, who has done this cute icons you are using?
The icons used in the main view of the ringtone picker are from AndroidIcons.com. Thanks guys for this great set of free icons!

Do U think it is possible to also disable vibration on incomming calls? It was working on Gingerbread but not longer on ICS (at least for me)

Flip4Silence classic doesn't work correctly on ICS? Didn't knew that, sure I will try to fix this in this rewrite (the old app will not receive any update, everything will be reimplemented).
I will give it a try when I move the old code to the new codebase but I can't promise anything as I don't know whats broken and so don't know how it may be fixed.
But thanks for the report =)
OMG!
Just installed older version from market. I know why it wasn't working..."Keep vibrating" was still enabled.
Sorry...my fault.

No problem at all, so I can note down that F4S Classic also works on ICS? Good... =)

Yepp...definitely working on ICS.
Glad you haven't abbandoned this project. I will test it soon on my NS.

I just release BETA3. As nobody reads the main post again, please note the following:
You generally don't have to take special care about the System Settings default sound picker as it's now blacklisted as it not supports F4S Ultimate. Consult the main post for more info about this. But If the little speaker at the top is shown for you in the default settings please hit the "Report usage" button and send me some info about your phone (again, more info is hidden in the main post ).
If you had a previous version installed I'm very sorry to tell you that you have to REASSIGN every single ringtone you have selected with F4S Ultimate before again due to a internal incompatible change!
Also I would like to say "Thank you!" to everybody who is currently testing/using this! I have not thought that so many people would try it! Thank you very much!

If you want to keep a secret, post it in the OP!
Why the BETA sign? What's not stable yet? And when do you plan to release a non-beta version?

It has the beta sign because it's rather untested and it's a very fragile kind of app as it operates at the border (or some steps beyond) of the android system.
I does things which were never intended by the developers, also I'm developing this thing alone. The beta sign will be removed when it's proven that it operates on virtually any phone from android 1.6 to 4.0 and includes all the features the original Flip4Silence has.
Currently everything is working as intended besides a bug I have just found (which is documented in the second post). A "stable" (I only release software which is at least usable for me) without the beta sign will come when I have done all the work. I can't tell you a date as this is not my job but I will do my best to release as often as I can.
BETA4 is out now!
BETA4 is out now!
It introduces a new feature: "Silence when user is present", please take a look at the first and second post for the changes in detail.
Besides that I had to wipe the caller database once again as the format changed again, so you have to reassign anything again (should be the last time, the format should be stable now...).
A sidenote:
I have not received any crash so far and it seems to work pretty good so I consider it now "stable enough for everyday use".
Thanks for this app, sounds good downloading now....
How Do I start the app?

It's a ringtonepicker replacement, to use the app you have to reassign the notification tones of the apps you want to be silenced on a flip. Your system will present you a list of apps which are suitable for ringtone picking, just select Flip4Silence there.
"Silence when user is present" - never get a notification sound again when you are playing with your device and don't need a audio notification.
Man I have been looking for this feature since day 1 of owning a Android Phone! I'll help you test the app!
Edit: I goto settings>Sound>Ringtone phone> choose flip4silence>Local Media
Crashes every time
Desire S
IceColdSandwich 7.0

Once again, lesson learned: never ever say "it's working good, quiet good" as it will brake then =)
It's a problem in (at least) the artist list, I will fix it soon. Stay tuned for an update and thanks for testing =)
Crappy video I made showing how I made it crash: http://youtu.be/R_4v-AKSjM4 (done in about half an hour)
I also provided a logcat with warnings, errors and fatal exceptions. Don't worry about the rmt_storage lines though, that has something to do with the beta ROM I'm using.

Now that's cool, I have never seen a bug report video before . It should be easy to fix this, but I have one question:
How many MP3s do you have on your device (I don't need an exact number, just a rough estimation, something like "60 albums" or something like that)?
13 normal albums, 1 album of Super Smash Bros (which has about 200+ songs ) and one "album" I made myself for my ringtones.
Hello All,
I will try to maintain this thread with Feature requests from users.
This is a big as list right here peeps and XpLoDWilD has been taking time to read all the requests and answer them in the document on google docs linked below. Please go through that document before requesting to see if it has already been answered.

T9 dialer
Sim Toolkit
Maybe multi window could have an option in the settings menu so we could have the top and bottom app like usual, but be able to have one app extra behind the top and bottom apps and be able to swipe to flip back and forth between apps, thus having 4 apps available on multiwindow?
Music for alarm
I would love to have a support for Note 3 Like ScreenShot wherein you will select the Part of the Screen to be Freezed and Save in to Gallery!
An Object Eraser where you can Remove unwanted things from your Pics like in Micromax Canvas Turbo
On my HTC One the recent apps list is a square list of windows. It would be really cool if we could utilize more of this big screen to display the apps rather than having a horizontal list to scroll through. Imagine if the recent list was displayed in app drawer style. It would very cool and more convenient if you ask me
System Wide Dictionary - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46810572&postcount=234
Multi Window features
Launching applications in 'window mode' from the recents menu (instead of long pressing then hitting add to split view)
Swipe left/right to get rid of the application
Swipe up on an application to put it into the top window
Swipe down on an application to put it into the bottom window
I have been playing with the idea of ungoogle my data (calendar and contacts). I have installed owncloud on my ubuntu server. It would be nice to have a native CalDav and CardDav provider included in Omni so you can sync with alternative sources.
is there any way to do ring alarm while phone is power off?
Maximised lockscreen widgets option
Hide initial page hints on lockscreen
Built-in cryptographic protocols that any app can use to securely transmit encrypted emails/chat/texts. (Cyanogenmod's PushSMS feature)
Features to protect from Google, Facebook and NSA spying.
Support for IP obsfuscating technology like Tor.
Support for the Dark Mail email protocol and support for Mailpile.
Support for Freedombox and related technologies.
Answered by @XpLoDWilD -
Extend Active Display to display time when screen is off and no notifications when hand is waved over proximity sensor, can work as a power button saver as well.
We all know that custom rom flashing is addictive, can we have inbuilt support for backing user app and data as a recovery flashable zip file? either in Android or in recovery?
CYAN 624
Full emoji support
It would be great if false would be changed to true in <bool name="quick_settings_show_rotation_lock">false</bool> in res/values/bools.xml in SystemUI.apk to enable the rotation lock button in the status bar.
Custom led pattern for contacts, as to see who texted or called you. Really use full for devices like the 2013 nexus 7 that does not support multi color led.
Ability to open new notifications from lock screen.
Invisible gesture unlock. I mean, without any dots or anything that signifies that a pass code is to be entered.
Snooze alarm with voice command.
Completely wipe device, with media, if pass code is incorrecly entered enough times.
Ability to share app data with restricted profiles.
Quick access to other users without having to lock and open device again.
Maybe a notification app like on LG, when gaming it just pops up when call comes in and doesnt disrupt the game, if you choose you van pick it up or not.
Or you can ignore it, change mind and ingame swipe notification down to pick up anyway, ingame.
What about something like IOS banners that when a call comes in while you're busy a banner at the top underneath the status bar comes up. Swipe to answer. Click to dismiss. Etc.
From what i know, the kernel has to be customised for every Device, because they all have different Hardware. I dont know how depending these customisations are on each other, or how deep they are coded into the source. But if that would be possible, i would think a developer repository of kernel optimisations for already known hardware would be great, so developing a built for a new device, with partly known hardware, could be much shorter.
Ability to mount Network shares into the device as an external sd-card so that apps directly can access them
how about native reverse tethering? The more aps mess with the connection, like vpn proxy firewall, the less likely it works flawless
Halo
Pie
Floating Window - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40906936&postcount=2
full animation control as well as scrolling animations
ability to have carrier shown in statusbar with the ability to have a custom carrier like in Mokee OS
full control of the launcher, or perhaps even integrated launchers that are changeable
enable and disable the navigation bar like in Slimbean and customize its colours and so forth
reduce zip file size (something similar to slimbean)
ability to move status bar to bottom of phone screen, will be helpful as screen size increases and status bar at top can be a pain sometimes when looking for notifications.
white UI
transparent keyboard
Custom statusbar colors to match app...make it intelligent enough to figure out current app values and just emulate them - extend beyond current availablilty and allow custom colors on a per-icon/clock basis.
MIUI-style theme engine, where you can fine tune elements on a per-app basis, mix-n-match, etc. Would be great if it supported current MIUI/CM themes, but with this expanded functionality. And with MIUI, you can theme anything you know the package name of and can get the resources from.
With PIE - the ability to adjust the width of the trigger area, so if, say, it's at the bottom of the screen, it's only triggered by the middle of the screen, versus taking up the entire bottom.
Native CIFS
Quiet hours
on devices with soft keys (like the ones in s3) there should be an option that would make the keys light up with the notification led.
on devices with virtual keys (Nexus devices for example) swiping from either the left or the right edge of them to the opposite edge would allow to make a cool switch between open apps and swiping up would open recents with cool animation (and the same animation would be shown when the recents key is pushed too) (just like in Chrome Beta (video) that allows to switch between tabs)
a security feature that would allow you to protect an app by showing the "com.example.example crashed" notification and making a secret gesture would open the app (like this)
possibility to copy text from anywhere like from apps like settings or Google+
How about more native google feature support? Like...the stock music player incorporates a google music library, file explorer ties to drive, gallery could use google pictures, messaging/dialer natively support voice? That would be badas$. And chromecast support if Google ever allows it.
I would like to see the hybrid engine of pa on this rom too. Or at least something like it. On big screens like on the find 5 you get better looks on some apps with an lowered dpi!
swipe left and right between open apps
window switcher like on lg g2 rom.
Easy maximizing positioning of windows
multidpi support
How about taking a page from carbon, and making it so when you're on the lockscreen and you hold down the nav ring (where the home button is normally) it turns the torch on.
small but a feature i love is screen shot trash ...when u take a screen shot and it pops up in the notification bar roms like carbon have a trash button near the share button
something ive always like but no rom have it and id had to use 3rd party apps is the battery icon horizontaly like i0s 7 with text next to it every body have circle battery and vertical bout time we have horizontal.
brightness slider.drag your finger accross the notification bar to change brightness.
background transparency in app drawer And scrollable dock icons
Voice plus from CyanogenMod. Very useful for Google voice users
How about per app color for the notification/quick toggles? Always bothered me
Also how about making the display turn more orange when it's late/dark.
Warm colors are easier on the eye in such conditions. That would be a natural development of the auto brightness - kernel so no
Backup of app data to a cloud service. Google may save your settings and re-download your apps, but it does not save your app data. - There are 3rd party apps to do that and omni will never entertain it as it can be used to steal personal data
I really would like to see that in apps like the dialer, the messaging and the people app(contacts) the user would have an opaque or blurry view of the home screen wall paper. Transparency is cool, but bluriness is better.
And it would be nice if the notification panel worked like ubunto os notification. You know, how you can slide between notification pages while scrolling it down.
And the last thing, if you could hide the permanent icons (something like the keyboard's icon or the gmd icon) from notification panel (like in MIUI).
An idea I had was to work on a "directional notification swipe"...example: you have a message....if you swipe right open message apk ready for reply...if you swipe left you just delete notification...same for recalls, maybe for facebook notifications...I don't know if is possible, but it's an idea
Ok, my feature request is simple. Just make how we can interact with our device as efficient and ergonomic as possible. Ability to operate phone by one hand etc. Probably will have different UI for tablet and phone, optimize for each device. Customize nav bar and ring targets (just swiping) are among examples,
one feature that i would like to see is the ability to completely disable the hardware key. MIUI have a feature to do this from the notification panel, but it's not permanent and resets on every boot.
http://opendesign.bbqdroid.org/ port forward the features developed here, and work on the feature requests lying pending there, most of the developers who started opendesign are on omniROM too
camera with smart capture mode like in carbon, slim and liquidsmooth
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-1122
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-1301
AirPlay
LMT like Nav-Bar (Not PIE2, more simple, and animated)
And PLEASE respect the color calibration on the N4, if anyone wants to change it, they can do it manually. Some of us actually like the Google pressets.
can you try to enable the voice call "GSM call " ? on nexus tablet specially 2013 .would be awesome if its happen and imagine how many nexus users will install this Rom
turn phone's screen on desktop to mute any sound
gamepad mode (screenoff but touch sensitive) when HDMI OUT
tablet mode on large screen
Japanese/Chinese switching system font option (avoid bad character display)
tap on right/left of device to previous/next music player
build in firewall with simple rule per application (allow/ask/block radio button maybe?)
password on selected applications startup
hidding mode on app drawer, on picture gallerie
multi-users/profiles - being Worked on
It would be nice to have some features that Samsung's touchwiz has... For instance "movements". That is, the hability to use the devices sensor to do some stuff like "flip to mute". Some preset gama settings, a battery saving mode and built-in contact white and blacklist.
I know this is possible with some apps like tasker, but wouldn't be nice for the less tech guys?
It would also be very nice if it would be possible to have a tool for choose the roms features. What is essential and what is optional.
It would be really nice to see you guys implement media control with the volume buttons when the device is locked!
swipe to delete in text message & email apps
ability to save apps on 'external' SD card - Android guys have stopped this for a reason so am guessing a no
Would love to be able to play songs like a pendrive E.g. radio usb ports.. and be able to know what's the charging current of the phone (maybe a dynamic icon for the battery at the quick setting panel. AntTek Explorer as basic explorer!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2408136
)Swipe to change b/w toggles and panel
Anything like those ubuntu status bar(wher u can swipe over icons to gain info)
A lot of guestures for accessing some features(surprise me over here )
Expandable and expanded volume adjustment window, as in CM.
Volume keys to move cursor r/l, l/r as in CM.
Camera Tile.
Hide status bar/status bar delete (for hidden status bar, there should be an option to disable 'swipe to peek' when in a fullscreen app).
All in one widget with weather, battery, clock, date, alarms set...etc.
Optional Programmed gestures to open (ribbons, app drawer, notifications, camera). Gestures are preferred to prevent accidental opening.
Swipe through open applications with multiple finger gesture.
Button control (allow more/custom actions to be programmed for long presses).
Help : There should be a searchable help because this seems like it will be loaded with features and sometimes you cant find a particular feature you want to edit. This help should be able to easily find the feature as well as a description of what it does.
I think you guys could likely optimize "Profiles" considerably with the addition of the geofence api, perhaps UI and a genetral ease of use overhaul.
A automated data migration (apps, sms etc) within the installer would be awesome
Combined Navbar with customizable buttons, and the popups for notification to display above the navbar instead of on top of it, so you can open the notification tray without having to wait 3 seconds for it to fade.
guest mode lockscreen - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46471023&postcount=78
Fully customizable nav bar like in aokp 7 soft buttons with long press features and icon customizability
Proximity sensor on during a phone call with Bluetooth hands free device connected. This way when the phone is in the pocket, no buttons get pressed accidentally during a call. I don't understand why this feature isn't on by default.
3D Mode - A mode that can be activated and that turns the whole UI (Launcher, Apps, Games,..) to Anaglyph 3D. That could be so cool if it could be done!
On lockscreen have different logins, kind of like how Windows has it, you just tap an icon and put in your password for a different user. They get their own partition with their own apps and data (have like 3 different /data partitions, might be hell to back up in TWRP).
Also have something like PGM on the Nexus 4 and GN built into the kernel and enabled as an option in the device settings.
This may or may not have been in the OP (I didn't see it) but have something like LightFlow LED built into the kernel and ROM for awesome multi-color LED notifications and settings, especially for us Nexus users. But more options like blink speed in ms and multiple color combinations like blue then green then red for Mom, red then blue then orange for Bill etc.
One feature I have always wanted is the ability to have the slide unlock lead to a password or face unlock. It really doesn't seem fair that people should have to sacrifice security to be able to use the lockscreen shortcuts, or the battery indicator on this rom. - already planned
Fixed Volume bugs on the SPHD710 Epic4GTouch. CM Has a speakerphone bug that sounds very low and the micrphone records extremely low that it's pretty much non existent. Ability to wake the phone by saying "Omni on" or how the new Motorola phone listens to voice commands that can control music apps and wake phone from sleep.
Native multitouch gestures and the ability to define the actions; would be a great addition and something that android tablets are lacking behind in.
Theming engine
Groupsms
change the background of the settings app
Blackberry Lockscreen
Apt-X support
- I don't know if the Pv6 privacy extension is standard activated in the newest Android versions but for OmniROM it should be always on or confugurable over the settings.
PIE with a working hardware search key.( What I'm trying to tell is, having a search button in PIE that emulate hardware search buttons like in those old Android phones, not just to open Google Now like the PA or CM PIE but more like LMT or Slim PIE. (Sorry for the inconvenience, English is not my native language. ))
It would be great to have a call notification like the Galaxy Note III. Like this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46514971&postcount=130
Quick Cover support.
SuperUser included
custom height navigation bar (for me is best 32dp and the action area is larger)
only text battery indicator
battery level in lane above of screen
before time in status bar: "day of week" (localized)
option to change "device name" (super for monitoring connected device to AP)
possibility to change layout square in status bar
ofcourse high performance (eg. on Nexus 4 in AnTuTu over 21k points)
resize nav bar
Please add QuickPeek notification bar while playing games.
Seriously about the only thing I want is either on first boot holo light ui or a button to change to light holo. Almost every rom has a button to change to dark holo but not the inverse and its irritating.
As a side feature gesture unlock is cool
Extended quick settings buttons - For example, I use an overlay to show my up- and download rate. But sometimes it's annoying so I would like to be able to turn it on and off easily like my WiFi or my GPS. The app just has to support it. That's it
Random Colors for Quick settings Tiles
How about quick statusbar preview when in full screen apps like on Samsung roms, when you swipe down from top ?
Multi window :
You gotta figure out some way to add apps to multi window without interruption of current process , something like Samsung side bar ?
ATM you have to stop current app by long home press to be able to add new window , so if I was watching some online video I'd have t play it all over again ..
What I wanna say is we need some way to create windowed apps without interrupting ongoing one/ long home press , because this way it's just ugly.
swipe down hide - swipe up show ( feature of GMD )
scrollable nav bar (like notification widgets, you can also put apps/shortcuts/and toggles, and with no scroll bars )( MY IDEA: dunno if someone have already made it )
Dual Layer ( i hope u guys get the point :> )
optional home button auto-hide ( feature of GMD )
customizable upto animations
something i have not seen sense my fascinate on aokp. adjustable auto-brightness variables
a mhl interface where you can send the output of a selected app to mhl, but then use the phone for other things.. so in car. send navigation to dvd player screen. and when i take a call the navigation continues on the second screen.
when at home. you could mhl a movie to your tv, while using your phone for other things. is this possible?
Icon packs being able to be applied to stock launcher with out having to install a 3rd party app/launcher would be great
A built in "Mass Memory Mode" for sdcard would be handy.
Recent Apps custom Background and Alpha menu option.
Ability to change Wifi/signal Icon colors.
Could you implement iPhone like notifications for full screen apps? Or a way to pull down the status bar in full screen apps (like most Touchwiz phones)?
I wish there was a way to install wanted features through aroma installer, like brightness slider is something I don't use so I wouldn't choose to install the code or dark or light ui switch, some might choose to install dark, I would install the light holo switch
A shortcut in power menu to a dashboard where i can find all my rom controls - go to settings and voila! [don't be lazy ]

It would be great to have some common kernel features for all builds. Like governors, i/o schedulers, tcp congestion control algorithms, zram, ksm, specific filesystems support. Controlling them should be integrated into performance settings, with advanced fine tuning options as well.
Other board-specific features (DT2W, S2W, fast charge, Wi-Fi power mode toggle, vibration intensity, gamma control, adaptive backlight, in-kernel auto brightness, BLN, etc.) should also have standard sysfs paths, this way the available features can be controlled in performance settings (or other places in the settings app) and those not included will simply be hidden. - kernel so no

request a setting I had on PacMan. When you press Vol up or down the volume bar comes up on screen, but on the right side of it there is an expandable settings button. When you click it, it shows all individual volume types, and their corresponding current levels. That way it's super easy to change individual volumes. Alarm, notification, music, ring tones are all individual volume settings - on the list
I suppose this won't even make a list but, if possible, and if they're going to create some new music player, could I drop in a request for Opus support? It's an "official" audio standard now, and I suspect that support will grow over time - it's freakin' awesome for low bitrate audio and the only players that seem to support it yet are GoneMAD (which I can't tolerate) and Neutron (which to me is hideous).
Would love to see a bare metal audio player that has the basics: good format support, cover art support (embedded as well as included in folders), and that's about it. I think support for Opus was in the works for Apollo, could still be at this time I have no idea but I wouldn't mind having it in something besides the aforementioned players.
If you're gonna do a full blown open source OS, might as well have a media player that covers the open source audio format(s) fully as well or as much as possible. - XpLoDWilD is looking into it
Net speed indicator like in the latest Carbon - added to gerrit here & here
I am in no way related to OmniROM. Just created a thread to maintain a list.

Something like Floating window (not the multi window)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40906936&postcount=2
Needs to have everything it can (I hope) but things that are kinda only in a few roms that you don't see a lot, for example, i'd like to see full animation control as well as scrolling animations, Net speed indicator like in the latest Carbon, and the ability to have carrier shown in statusbar with the ability to have a custom carrier like in Mokee OS?
I'd like to see full control of the launcher, or perhaps even integrated launchers that are changeable. The AOSP launcher is just fine, but I like the complete control I get with Nova.

ability to move status bar to bottom of phone screen, will be helpful as screen size increases and status bar at top can be a pain sometimes when looking for notifications.
white UI
Something ive always wanted from android, but never found the right solution, Is a transparent keyboard.
Honestly one thing people haven't really mentioned is a framework like Xposed to be baked directly into the rom. Talk about customization and such.

I have already added volume wake to gerrit. Will be merged soon.
Regarding DT2W
This is actually very dependent on the device and needs kernel support. I have added this together with S2W for the Oppo find5. For other devices this needs more investigation if it is possible to implement
Sent from my Find 5 using xda app-developers app
Here's a couple:
Custom statusbar colors to match app...make it intelligent enough to figure out current app values and just emulate them - extend beyond current availablilty and allow custom colors on a per-icon/clock basis.
MIUI-style theme engine, where you can fine tune elements on a per-app basis, mix-n-match, etc. Would be great if it supported current MIUI/CM themes, but with this expanded functionality. And with MIUI, you can theme anything you know the package name of and can get the resources from.
Air gestures/wave2wake?
With PIE - the ability to adjust the width of the trigger area, so if, say, it's at the bottom of the screen, it's only triggered by the middle of the screen, versus taking up the entire bottom.
Native CIFS and USB OTG.
ADB over wifi?
Facebook contact integration, HD contact pictures.
Mind you, I'm just rattling off a wishlist. Sounds very exciting so far. Can't wait to see the new phasebeam.
Edit: Also thought yesterday...wouldn't it be cool to get some kind of live wallpaper that did almost like a zoe (HTC One) or animated .gif as a live wallpaper? Not a full persistent video...but more of like those pictures in harry potter.
Adb over WiFi is on gerrit
USB otg is another very device specific feature. For devices that supports is on the HW side no problem. For the others USB host support can be added if possible to the kernel

I'm aware that some of these are kernel/device specific. But it would be kinda cool to have them baked in off the bat when possible, versus having to hunt down and install a secondary kernel that may or may not work 100% with the ROM. I always prefer to use the official kernel when I can.
It would be great to have some common kernel features for all builds. Like governors, i/o schedulers, tcp congestion control algorithms, zram, ksm, specific filesystems support. Controlling them should be integrated into performance settings, with advanced fine tuning options as well.

Here are my feature requests:
- Pure AOSP look
- Improvements of performance & battery efficiency (maybe omni rom should build their own kernel to make this actually happen)
- Open source drivers for phones with only useless proprietary ones
I would actually prefer performance and battery life than battery consuming software features namely halo
My requests so far (don't know if already in):
- Quiet hours
- Custom autobrightness
- LED color Settings
- retain AOSP (kernel) compatibility (Nexus devices)
Btw. on one of the screenshots I saw of Omni where the MultiWindow feature was shown it was quite hard to see where one app starts and another ends, maybe it would be beneficial to add a small separation line?

My thoughts exactly. Maybe even give it it's own performance app that is an AIO stop for overclocking/undervolting/governor/scheduler/etc. tuning. Instead of having a mildly limited "performance" area in settings or having to do things via a 3rd party app that has support for whichever kernel's features we want to use...one unified kernel/tuning app for any device. It already sounds like the ROM is going to be very performance-oriented...this could even potentially be like a centerpiece for all the tuning features. :good:

Undervolting is present in the performance control app already, flashed another kernel to test and logs show it's available, but the app crashes somewhere else. Will have to investigate that as soon as I resync repos with GitHub ones (I only have Gerrit repos synced now. ).

Possiblity of adding Quick tiles support and voice?

Quick Tiles have been developed and have just gone live in 0.12.alpha.
Voice activation is a different story. There is Google Now and Google Assistant to take advantage of. First one can only use their commands ("set an alarm" etc but not really anything related to our app. No "turn on the lights".) The latter has actions that make sense but it is only in a conversation. (Turn on the light, do you want to turn on the light?, What room? Living-room, etc.). It is quicker to buy a button and get it even installed. So, we need a better alternative like Google Assistant Direct Actions. This is not available without signup (yes, I did signup but no response yet). This is for home automation and suits me fine. It is just the wait until Google's response.
wow 7,50 €lol...hell na
i rather use 4 free apps, that do exactly the same ...even so u might have one or two feature ...i wouldn't recommend anybody to buy this DLC app haha
I bought the app to support the developer, all the upcoming features sound like a dream come true to me. I also like the slick look of the graphics, so thanks a lot and keep up to good work. To anybody else reading this, go ahead and buy this app, it's nice and handy and the upcoming features are even more awesome. Just skip a lunch and starbucks, cheap bastards.
Please, widgets!
I just bought the app, and I'm excited about the features, but I am curious about the quick tiles. When I tap on a tile, it just sends me into the configuration screen without toggling the settings of my lights at all. How do I use these to quickly change the settings of my lights? What am I missing?
I have also noticed that my lights will remain stuck on an effect, even if I have tried to change the bulb status via another method (Alexa, or the button on the back of the Hue Go, for examples).

Thank you for your positive response. At the moment I am working on bug fixes mainly. I expect that most errors have been dealt with for now. Next features I am working on are the schedules, rules, sensors. These should come through in one of the next releases. Some parts are quite far by now. Main issue is lack of time due to school! Soon it is holidays again and frees up time.
For those who have reported "unknown lights" in the section "all lights", I never knew how many lights Hue Essentials would pick up. I have a hard time finding those lights myself in shops and on the internet. Bought some of those IKEA, Osram, etc, for testing, but must say that Hue lights from Philips are best of them all. Just too bad the Hue lights are so expensive. IKEA lights could do with a real improvement...
Many people joined the translation program through the app. Really wonderful to see all those languages coming through! Thanks for all your support!

Have you configured the tile in those settings? If so, it could be a bug that needs to be fixed. Let me know the details of your tile action and type of device.
If you start the effect through Hue Essentials and try to stop it through another method, like Alexa, it will not stop. Effects are played locally and not running on the bridge. Note that this may change in the future releases of the app. You need to stop the effect through the buttons in the app/notification.

We love iConnectHue as that developer has shown what Hue can do! Surely, we still need to work on the sensors (smart controls). Our idea is to create extra functionality. There is just a bit too much on the wish-list. First, I am adding IKEA gateway to one of the next releases. Next is scenes and more effects, maybe we will have a look at entertainment at the same time. Widgets are on the list.
Room/Group Colours?
Maybe I'm missing something but I see that I can apply the same brightness level, scenes, and effects to all the lights in a room but I can't see how to set all lights in a room to the same colour without going into each individual light setting...?
Thanks!

The IKEA Trådfri is still under development and not released yet. I think it takes a few more weeks. Still sorting out some bugs
Once it is included in Hue Essentials:
It depends on what you want. If you only want to use the Trådfri gateway, you can just delete your old bridge and then scan for the gateway. If you want to use Trådfri and Hue at the same time, then you would need multiple bridges.
Since you guys peruse here and reddit.
-Stay awake while reading/holding
The same way the sony xperia series detects the phone is upright and being held, delays the screen time out.
- Setting to adjust the bottom round corner overlays
There two overlays at the bottom of the screen. Would be great to add some setting stop adjust.
-Hide Navbar
Similar to the GS8 That give you granular control over when it's hidden.
-Auto Pin unlock
Again the on the xperia series, the check mark is removed, so once you put the correct pin the phone accepts and unlocks.
More to come....
So most of the things suggested above are actually pretty gimmicky, imo.
Only thing I miss coming from other phones is gesture support for things like camera and flashlight with screen off. Double tap power for camera works fine, but no way to get to flashlight without turning the screen on, pulling down quick toggles, and clicking flashlight. Maybe holding down the volume down button with screen off?
Moto has the best gestures, then oneplus, then everyone else. Unfortunately, there is hardware support required for these to work without killing the battery, so totally understand if we never get gestures like these.
Those are pretty lame requests.. Essential runs AOSP.
A request that are needed & needs addressing:
- manual mode for camera
- hdr auto toggles the flash on??
- release system images already
- beta program/Oreo
- timely security updates (just getting October?)
- fix touch issues and scrolling
- fp scanner causing lockups
Let's get the OS polished and working better before we add more features

I mean, those requests of yours are already what they're doing, and bug fixes. So like duh list.
As for essential running aosp. They do, and they are already adding stuff on top.
The elegant solution for the status bar is to run devices in full screen, then manually
bring back the nav bar and status bar. So options for that would just be additional to what they are doing.
The rounded corners. They are already overlaying black corners on top. So options for that would just be additional to what they are doing.
Double click power button for cam isn't aosp last I checked.
So hence "feature requests" not just another list asking for "do it faster". :good:
Fix the camera.
Show us you can do this and smash the naysayers. Please don't just throw in the towel and let companies like Razer come in and show you up.
I would like Oreo like everyone else, but keep the guns pointed at the cameras.
There's seriously no rush to race to Essential phone 2.
You have reduced the price and now have the stage yet again. (Not to mention a ton of dedicated customers waiting with faith and phone in hand. )
Seize the moment an knock it out of the park.
This is the perfect time for you to take gobs of consumers away from the Pixel line. Google is against the ropes with its own set of issues.
Now that your price is set where margins are thin, its time to prove your name. Fix the camera and move units like crazy to get it in as many hands as possible.
Essential Phone 2 will help when you user base confidently upgrades ans recommends your product.
I bought an Essential phone for tight finish. (Software & Hardware)
Oreo will clean up a lot of peoples wants.
Again though, make the hardware work to it full potential.
Essential, you put yourself in this position with Stock android promises coupled with exceedingly high end hardware.
If I wanted bells/whistles with headaches, I would have zero troubles finding and OEM for that.
I essentially want you to focus on the hardware and leverage what you have to a higher standard and level.
Fix the EIS
Bring the camera levels to LG G6 results since the parts are the same.
Fix the Camera Icon (The only one you created) - Its ridiculously amateur and sticks out like a sore thumb.
Keep up the AMA's
Stay focused and steady.
Don't just kick the can down the road.
Another point:
I feel you should point out and lean your American roots. Lots of consumers purchase phones from offshoot companies that are created outside of the USA. Subsequently, many of them have been busted by running data collecting and or malicious algorithms.
You will not have more attention than you do now. Get cracking on it and show us what your made of.
Show us you can do this!
I agree totally with Maven1975 this phone is an awesome piece of equipment, I think that the weak link is the stock camera app and the way it processes the photos taken (compression) I have been able to take some pretty good looking photos with the stock app, but both The GCam port and FV-5 take far better pics but why?
Over the past year I owned the G6 which took some really nice pics, I sold it to purchase the S8 which took some amazing pics but I just couldn't deal with the UI of either of those phones even with the themes and the S8 wasn't user friendly for myself because of how I hold a phone I need me some side bezels with how I hold phones. I ended up getting the U11 and I love HTC and the UI but the phone was "big" but it took the best pictures out of the three.
Then the Essential PH-1 came out with it's awesome form factor and amazing quality and design I figured hey it has the same image sensor as the G6 with newer hardware and dual camera setup I bought into the"Image Fusion" hype and figured the photos should be somewhere in between the G6 and U11
Fix the camera, give us a Pro/Manual Mode and Release the System Image
I love stock Android, so keep the updates quick and the owners of this high quality phone will be some of your best advertisement "bang for the buck"
Become part of the development community and make this a "flash happy" phone ..... I come from a time when the HTC Hero had so many options for flashing different roms and apps it was so pleasing make the Essential PH-1 an ICON like the Hero
Now in every new android release since kitkat there has been regressions, but in PIE I noticed this one has a fair few so I googled and I observed that almost every article was only praising the release as if they just there to promote and suck up to google developers.
Then I found this very honest post from a guy on reddit.
https://old.reddit.com/r/Android/co...eatures_since_the_pie_update_and_the/ejrdwnp/
I will quote also.
Neutered navigation bar with an increased focus on gestures rather than buttons (wit the bar using up the same amount of space with decidedly half-baked gestures). Some companies at least maintained the options of buttons or gestures, but I think the Google Pixel 3 prevents users from having the option of using the classic navigation buttons.
Horizontal Recents/Overview screen instead of a vertical variant - this "feature" is more subjective, I guess.
Enforced 3-icon limit for notifications in the status bar, all thanks to notches - for certain phones, this change completely removed the option to have as many icons in the status bar as you have space for.
The Digital-Clock/Time's position was enforced on the left instead of the classic right-side position - again, all thanks to notches..
The Volume Slider got changed to a "vertical" variant if I recall correctly, and I think that certain volume sliders can only be changed by actually diving into Settings, whereas the Android 8/Oreo implementation gave a simple quick drop-down to change all 4 at once, and Samsung even added the option to switch the controlled volume default from Ringtone to Media.
Removal of easy access to viewing System Uptime in Android Info (WHY? It's a useful metric that just sits there harmlessly!).
The DevCheck application thankfully still indicates System Uptime, although the read-out isn't as "fluid" (doesn't refresh as much) from what I've seen.
Neutering of the "Quick Toggles" pop-up thing, where you can adjust certain quick-toggles' settings quickly without actually diving into the Settings screen.
certain "Do Not Disturb" mode capabilities/workflows that were possible in Android 8/Oreo are apparently harder, if not impossible, to achieve in Android 9/Pie.
I think that the Android 8/Oreo Easter Egg got removed..? (if one counts that as a feature).
Call Recording got heavily hampered.. I'm not sure of Screen Recording... Custom theming on Samsung devices also seems like it will be harder to achieve in the near future (going by a recent changelog entry for the "Theme Galaxy" application), although "One User Interface (One UI)" seems to be softening the blow.
as others have mentioned, the method to access Android-native "Split-screen/Multi-Window view" has been altered a bit...

For me on a personal level the nasty ones are the removal of battery saving location from UI (the underlying code still supports it), removal of expanded controls from quick toggles, and the call recording hampering.
Now personally I dont think I have recorded more than a few calls in my lifetime on a smartphone, but I believe in user's been in control of their own device and user choice. The change to quick toggles is just mind baffling and makes no sense whatsoever, the changes to GPS may possibly make sense but it needs to be explained to users, instead of just silently removing the feature and have the media pretend its not happened.
Their minds would be better focused on fixing the flaws in the UI so e.g.
Black themes that are inconsistent so e.g. I have a black theme enabled but the navigation bar is white, and the notification boxes are white.
More control over UI elements, allow more freedom to do things like resize notification boxes (they way too large on stock android), reposition every icon and so forth. No choice on vertical or horizontal recent apps screen.
Consistency in UI, so e.g. on quick toggles when expanded you see text labels, when not expanded you dont, there is no reason for that, its just bad consistency.
I also hear of future regressions like plans to replace navigation buttons entirely with gestures, that I think is a disaster in the making as many users dont use gestures, and prefer buttons.
I think its clear changes are been made for the sake of change rather than functional improvement. I feel android UI peaked with kitkat.
Ironically that reddit thread has people praising samsung for adding sanity and reversing the changes, google dont like samsung changing the UI, but you cannot blame samsung when google are doing stupid things to the UI.
I am half tempted to go back to samsung on next phone, my oneplus6 is lightning fast tho and my s7 is really laggy and slow by comparison. But there is no doubt samsung phones have a better UI and feature set.
One thing that has always baffled me, is some users on XDA feel they must always be on the latest version of android, I seen users abandoning things like xposed, useful mods etc. just because they only support a rom version that might only be a few months out of date. This is baffling when you consider that new android versions usually have more regressions than new useful features. As an example on oneplus6 people are abandoning renovate ice because it only supports up to 9.0.6.
I will probably add my own quick toggles with tasker for GPS modes, still looking for call recording solution, as well as black notification theming, I expect the theming for navigation bar is not fixable tho. I had black notifications on havocos and to say they look better is an understatement.
Google sort out your UI department as its pretty bad right now.
rant over.
Also to mods if this post is in the wrong place, please move it rather than just removing it or warn me before removal so I can copy and paste the content to repost in right place, thanks.
Should have posted this on Google's forum, not a hacking forum
