Just Rooted! What now... - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just rooted my OnePlus One and I want to get the FrancoKernel to save some battery but I don't think it's compatible with the version I am on. I am on CM 12.1.1-YOG7DAS2K1. What are my other options as far as kernels that improve battery life? Also other things I can do to save some battery since I am rooted? Thanks for the help!

You can just test the kernel if you want, but make sure you have make a backup of the kernel in CWM / TWRP. (Just in case you have problems).
NOTE: Most kernels are based to ROMS from the developer. Always read the thread if your ROM works with the kernel you want to install, or you will get bootloops :silly:
I use the AK kernel (AK.311.OP1.CM.zip) --> Link
Alot of users prefare AK kernel over Franco kernel, but you have to try it for yourself.

Do not attempt to install Franco Kernel. The last version he made is compatible with COS12. Right now there's only one kernel made specifically for COS12.1.1 and its Boeffla (4.2 Beta 2). You can try AK cause it's using a special format that makes it compatible with almost any 5.1.1 based CM ROM (311)

How edit a kernel?

I'm using MIUI rom for my Nexus S. I have tested Netarchy kernel, the most complete of his genre, but it give me stability issues.
I want take the default android kernel and add some non-invasive features like overclock, bln, etc. wich let's MIUI run stable.
My problem is that i don't know how i can edit a kernel. Unpack .img files, decompile and recompile them.
Anyone can help me with a small introduction?
Thanks a lot.

first of all, wrong section..even though it is about "development"...still a question
anyways, there is no way to "edit a kernel" they have to be built from source. changes need to be made before you compile it.
there are many threads here on xda with tutorials -search >compile kernel<
a simple way to start is seach >mkbootimg< normally this would be compiled from source as well but there are a few threads that people have posted tutorials of the ins and outs and have packages for download.
basically with that you can "split" a boot.img separating the ramdisk (specific to the rom) and the kernel...then merge "your" miui ramdisk with a working (or built for other rom) kernel
You can start here:

Cm10 compatible kernels

I'm running cm10 4.1.1
Just wondering what kernels are compatible with cm10. I have used the app sgs flasher to flash a kernel in the past. Would this work now? And I'm looking for a kernel that would improve battery.
Here's my exact info:

About a month ago. I was able to use sgs-kf in gb to flash a cm9/cm10 kernel while in GB. I think it failed in cm9/cm10 when I tried to flash a gb kernel.
idk if the author has updated the app or not.
You can flash up, but not down.
For the most part, Scott and jt has been the only ones working on cm10 - jt's cm10 kernel in buried in the thread somewhere a few months back. I made a shell to flash a cm10 kernel in there too, a few posts after jt dropped his kernel. I packed that kernel into a cwm flashable shell for cwm 5.x and 6.x.
You can use that shell to flash your cm10 kernels. CM10 flavors will be Scott's work or Jt's work.
i dont think you can flash an mtd cm10 kernel, i dont really know how the mtd conversion scripts work and sgskf says unsuported kernel type or something. non mtd, early cm10 or current cm9 should be aboe to use it but like qkster said might not downgrade....
but about kernel selection use whats in the rom thread. in general different aosp kenrels can be somewhat compatible but there is soo much going on with aosp development and things are constantly changing with feature support and drivers (i think the wifi drivers are mostly being used from the galaxy tab or something).. and partitions that most kernel only partially work with other roms, so stick to matching the kernel to the rom by developer and release date.

[Q] ROMs with or without Wifi Toggle problem

Hi,
I thought that making a thread with a full list of Roms with the problem of Wifi Toggle Freezing or not would be useful.
I found it in:
CM10 with kernel 3
CM9 with kernel 3
MiniCM9 with kernel 3 (ImmortalYash says it's fixed in b4 but in my Pico was still present, obviously fixed with Garud 2.6 but then u loose Hotspot e USB Mass Storage... ANYWAY A BIG THANKS TO IMMORTAL FOR HIS AWESOME WORK AND ALL OF HIS EFFORTS )
MiniCM10 with kernel 3 (not sure, need ur confirms)
AOKP (present in the versions I tested, need confirms)
Not present in:
Stock ( ) and derivated (Jaggy, Xenon, Ateeq, NextGen, etc)
Evervolv ICS (not sure though!)
Evervolv JB (same as above)
CM9 with Kernel 2.6 (builds from 1 to 12?)
Don't know at all:
Jelly Bean Mini Project (never used that)
I hope this thread is useful to everyone and isn't going to go against any rules!
I hope to have raised a common question!
Namasté
the problem is not present in cm10b6 with garuda kernel
there is fix available for usb problem in garuda kernel
please change the title of this thread. [Q] says you are asking some question. since you are not , i would suggest you remove [Q] and make it list
Any Rom with kernel 2.6 as base doesn't have the problem..as you said, those with kernel 3 yash has claimed to have fixed the problem.

Every rom and every kernel lags -> Cataclysm doesn't. Like it wasn't a custom ROM
My CPU temp is also around 70 C° when under heavy load, but it cools down pretty quickly.

[SOLVED] Install non-CAF ROM to Nexus 5 CAF?

I accidentally bought a Nexus 5 CAF. My last Nexus 5 was non-CAF and I installed Purity Kit Kat 4.4.4 ROM (with Hellscore kernel) which is the most perfect ROM I've used so far.
Could anyone help me to install non-CAF ROM to my Nexus 5 CAF? I want to come back to my beloved Purity. Thanks in advance.
There are 2 versions of nexus 5. D821 and D820. Only LTE bamds are different
Yoi can flash ANY rom made for hammerhead or hammerheadcaf on ANY Nexus 5
Just flash twrp caf for N5, wipe and flash your caf rom

I really don't know much. Could you please show me step by step.
I already flashed TWRP CAF (twrp-3.0.2-0-hammerheadcaf.img).
I want to install this ROM: purity_hammerhead_ota_2014-10-15.zip
But it shows error when I try to install the zip file:
""This package is for "hammerhead" devices; this is a "hammerheadcaf".
"Updater process ended with ERROR: 7""
My current device information:

[SOLVED] I figured it out. Error 7 is due to using TWRP for hammerheadcaf. I flashed TWRP for hammerhead and installed successfully.

the real question is why wouldn't you want to take advantage of CAF?

All ROMS I've tried so far contains annoying bugs somewhere and they are all slower than my old ROM.
These are the ROMS I've installed and removed:
aicp_hammerheadcaf_n-12.1-NIGHTLY-20170223
cm-14.1-20170303-NIGHTLY-hammerheadcaf
crDroidAndroid-7.1.1-20170206-hammerheadcaf-v2.1
MK71.1-hammerheadcaf-201703260944-NIGHTLY
Purity 4.4.4 + Hellscore kernel is the best combination ever. Super fast, smooth and no bug.
If you know any other CAF ROMs that fast, smooth and no bug please tell me. Thanks a lot.
