Answering call problem with flipcover case - Micromax Canvas Magnus A117

Hello,
I have a strange problem with my phone. I use the original flip cover case. When the phone is upside down (screen facing down) and a call comes. I pick up the phone and open the flip cover, I can see who is calling but the touch screen do not respond. I can not control the call, I have to press the power button twice so the screen closes and opens, then I gain control on the screen.
This problem does not occur when I use the phone without flip cover case or when I leave the phone with screen facing up.
Do you have this problem with your phone?

I have this problem with all roms that I tried. But when I use an auto screen on off program for flip cover phones, my problem solved. The program make my phone awake all the time, it seems disturbing at the beginning but I saw that the battery consumption of my kitkat rom decreased while my phone is idle (screen off). Normally my kitkat rom uses 4-5% per hour when screen off but with this program it decreased to 1.5-2% per hour. So I also found an indirect solution for my kitkat rom that do not go into deep sleep

Also I noticed that the cpu usage is high (1209 Mhz) while the screen is off, so I used a cpu tuner program to reduce it while screen is off. And the battery consumption reduced to nearly %1 per hour while screen is off.
A rom developer can use this and write a code that awake the phone but not using battery like auto screen on off program.

Battery problem on Touch Pro - possible cause

Hi all,
My father bought an HTC Touch Pro some time ago; I think it was in 2008, as he needed a good phone, with the organization capability that WM has to offer.
The phone is in MINT conditions, really. It still has the original screen protector and no scratches can be found on it. He uses it a lot, but always has it in the leather case, and in a small pocket, which sometimes results in lost calls, as no one can really hear it ring . The battery is always fully charged, and after some testing I think it is still in good conditions.
The problem that he started getting is that after I installed some programs like GPS Tomtom and AGEPhone for SIP calling that he never uses (hehe), he started noticing the battery was discharging faster and that it would not last even 1 day, when before it would last about 3-4 days.
I uninstalled the programs, and the problem persists. Brightness is on 50%, wifi and any internet connection is turned off. No programs running in background, unless it's active sync that sometimes turns on itself.
POSSIBLE CAUSE - We noticed is that he has a lot of reminders, so the phone is constantly waking up. The problem is that it does not go to sleep afterwards. The touch screen is locked, so when a reminder pops up, the screen stays turned on, even if the backlight is not on, and just drains the battery completely.
Is there anything we can do, so that it (the reminders of meetings, birthdays and other stuff) would not wake the device up, or if it did, the phone would go to sleep after some seconds, so that it would not overheat and drain the battery in 1 day?
It is a quite annoying having to constantly look at the phone, dismissing reminders and turning the screen off, so the battery can last a bit longer.
I need to solve this problem, but my father will not agree with a custom ROM flash. Maximum I can do with it is upgrade it through the HTC tool, but I am not sure if it is worth it.
Here are the information:
Version de ROM: 1.90.406.5 FRE
Date de ROM: 08/20/08
Version de radio: 1.02.25.19
Version de protocole: 52.33.25.17W
The device was bought in Luxemburg and has a French windows mobile 6.1 on it, and an AZERTY keyboard.
Please help me with this issue.
Get tBattery and check to see the current draw under stead, idle conditions. With the backlight at 5, it should draw about 110 mA (there may be some spiking). Use the log feature, say for 10 min @ a time, with power-save options unchecked so the screen doesn't dim and it doesn't go to sleep. If the drain is high (constantly above 200 mA, let's say), then get a good task manager (hint: new dotfred's 3.3) and start killing processes, and see if that helps. If not, then try stopping some of ther services.
Thanks Farmer Ted for the reply, but I think I found the cause of the problem. I don't know why but after it wakes up, because of an appointment, it will not turn the screen off, even after 10 minutes and I have the power management set 30 sec off if not being used.
As the screen is locked, the appointment will not be dismissed by accident or pressed so it just stays like that, until the battery is dead.
Is there a hidden option to make the phone go back to sleep, or to prevent it from waking up, just making the led blink, as when you get new SMS messages and the screen is off, or when you get a missed call?
If there was I think it would solve the problem completely.
Thank you all for your help.
yes the problem is the screen it drains it faster than a hobo with a bottle of wiskey,
what you have to do it click on batter icon and get into the battery menu select advanced and elect turn back light off if device is not used for and select 10 second, then turn off device if not used for and slected 1 minute (its reffering to the screen)
then i use a program called touch pro tweak (its cooked into all energy roms) and there is a setting to wake up on call or text or notification and disable it by wake up it refers to turing the screen on
I have a simmilar problem.. I discovered what causes it... When I install certian programs, it changes the power settings.. namely, the power off when not plugged in setting... So, check out those settings... I have had this happen 3 or 4 times in as many months... then I notice the same issues with my battery.. after I go change the settigns back (for the 100th time) it goes back to pastign 2-3 days for me... (instead of less than 1)
Hi people, sorry to bring up this topic again, but I see no point in creating a new one.
I would like to ask if any of you would recommend me a good French ROM (as it comes with AZERTY keyboard) for this device that has good battery life?
Is it possible that a cooked WM 6.5 would use less battery then stock WM 6.1?
I have another problem, is there a way to turn up the ringing volume of the phone, in order to hear it even if it is in a small bag? It's already on max, but my father complaints the ringing volume is too low and he can not hear it.
And last but not least, how much does this battery normally last? Wifi off, bluetooth off, calling about 15 min a day, some SMS and a lot of reminders.
It can not go a day, max two days without recharging. It is always turned off when he goes to sleep, because if not, he will wake up with a dead device.

[Q] How do you make the battery life better on this

I have to charge my phone 2 or 3 times a day any recommendations on how to make my battery life longer that are simple and easy

I'm a truck driver and I'm a heavy user.
I did too before I made the changes below. These all work with the Stock Rom.
1. Installed No Lock (so that I don't have to swipe the screen to unlock, just push the power button)
2. Set screen to turn off in 30 seconds.
3. Installed Brightness Widget (allows changing the brightness from the home screen
4. Installed Screen Filter (lets me really darken my screen at night.
Try those and see how you do.
5. I then flashed the Infused Rom (I now get up to 10-14 hours)

Also, Turn off GPS and Wifi when you're not using them.
Battery
After much experimenting and monitoring of battery use I find that the biggest drain is the screen display, so go to settings-->display-->brightness and lower the screen brightness as low as you comfortably can. Also when you you are not using the phone make sure the screen is off, I have trained myself to automatically hit the power button every time I put down the phone. If you listen to music through your phone make sure the settings on your music players allow the phone to play when the screen is off and turn the screen off while it plays.
GPS also drains the battery, so I keep it turned off when I don't use the Nav. When I use the Nav I know the battery will drain at a rapid pace, nothing you can do there, even if I have the phone plugged in to car power while using Nav it still drains the battery! Drains slower than unplugged navigating but still drains.
If your watching videos then your S.O.L. there's really nothing you can do that will increase battery life enough to make a difference during video playback.
I get 10-12 hours with regular use and stock rom. Worst was 8 hours best was 24.
Thanks for all the advice this has really helped my battery

There was a recent post that showed a shortcut for changing the screen brightness from the homescreen without any additional software. First, turn off auto brightness. Second, tap and hold the menu bar at the top. Third, slide left to reduce the screen brightness and right to increase screen brightness.

It seems that Samsung ****ed up and included phone CPU/screen/etc usage when measuring battery charge current.
This means that the 600 mA stock battery charge current limit isn't just going to the battery, it's split between battery/screen/CPU. If screen/CPU/etc go above 600 mA (Navigation at full brightness seems to be the most common way), battery starts draining.
It also means that unless there's something I'm missing (which I could be since the MAX8998 datasheet is super-ultra-secret), our phone isn't going to be able to do proper charge termination - if the screen is on/CPU is running, it will cause a falsely high battery charge current reading, which will cause charging to fail to terminate.
Juice defender
I found that juice defender helped my battery and i just use the free version it's a great app
I used Iphone 3g 3gs 4. None of them drain battery like this one. First time use Android phone and getting a bit disappointed of this phone. It's draining 2% every 5 mins and im using stock Rom.

Install a ROM. Infused v2 nearly doubled my screen-on battery life and tripled my screen-off battery life.

look in about phone battery use to identify the biggest battery user, it should be the screen. anything else and there is a problem.
the cell standby may go high on froyo rom, turning on flight mode and turning it off will correct that, it's an android bug.
on gingerbread the android os or android system may hog battery occasionally. some think it is the wifi sleep policy but it pops up on me without setting the sleep policy. the fix for that is to pull the battery for a couple minutes and put it back in and restart the phone.
next manage the screen brightness
install a custom rom, there are issues with certain firmware keeping sensors active wen they shouldn't be.
turn off unneeded sync options (i find that auto fetching my email uses a lot especially with my gmail already set to sync),
use wifi when you use the internet if possible, turn it off when out and about.
monitor cpu useage of apps that are cached in the task manager
kill apps that use cpu
if needed turn the max cpu clock down to 800mhz
set "use wireless networks" for location when possible for general location (limited to city level at times)

Actually, high cell standby is OK if the phone is screen-off often.
Cell standby is always my top user - but my phone is sitting on my desk with the screen off frequently, in a location with weak signal. Weak signal makes cell standby usage go WAY up.

Using titanium backup I froze drm content 2.2.1 and this significantly increased my battery life.
Sent from my Infuse. It is what it isn't.
JuiceDefender!!
I agree JuiceDefender works!! I had to charge in the middle of the day. Now with moderate use it will last all day Im on stock Rom.
I easily get 2 days out of my Infuse, no idea how some of you are managing to only get 8 hours. After rooting my phone and freezing the bloat i easily get twice the battery life of my prior iPhone 3GS.

[Q] Notifications on lock screen

Hi,
i have an Samsung OMNIA7 and i'm pissed off every time i miss a call the screen stays dark, and as there is no led to indicate missed calls/sms i find myself powering up the screen once in a while to check if i have missed something.
is there a way to light up the screen and keep it on or maybe just a line with some icons on when there is a missed call or sms...?
thnx
If you want a battery life measured in hours...
There is an option for "Screen times out: Never" but that isn't affected by missed calls or anything. I really don't recommend using it that way, though. Leaving the screen on all the time eats a huge amount of battery life (under normal use, it's about half of the battery just to power the screen on many phones).
Some WP7 devices have notifiction LEDs, but if yours doesn't I don't think there's anything that can be done to help.

[Q] Ways to use torch with minimal battery use

So this is a 3 part question on Torches
1) Is there any way to operate torch when your phone is off, basically to be able to use your torch while your phone is off, so that your torch is the only thing utilising battery and not the system, this for incase of emergency. If it is not possible to use the torch when your phone is off, can we use it when the phone is in deep sleep? basically my target it to use the phone as a torch while using the most minimal amount of battery.
2) On Xposed there is an app by wanam - Xposed torch, it allows you to use the torch without turning on the screen, now is this particular app waking the device from sleep or not?
3) For worst cases scenarios can we flash a system which only allows the torch to run via the buttons and nothing else, like this can be used via multirom and save battery

Do you need it to use the camera flash? In other words, does it need to be as bright as possible or will any light do? Best bet is to just use the LCD backlight with an all white screen. You could leave the screen on in this way for over 20 hours.

lol, wont even be close to 20 hours.
and op, in order for you to use the led for a flashlight, even with the screen off, it will never go into deep sleep. it will be awake the whole time. in order for the device to run an app, a system or user app, you need the device awake. it will only go into deep sleep when nothing is active.

I've seen it twice now, though I'm unable to find the links. One fellow on Reddit and another here on these forums. Both were well on their way to over 20 hours Screen on Time with little to no usage. Seeing as I've gotten over 8 myself with actual (albeit light) usage, it wasn't very shocking to see.
The screen with zero interaction uses very little battery due to Panel Self Refresh.

i still dont believe it. to get 20 hours, you would have to do more to your system than just turn on the screen. there are mods that reduce the brightness of the screen even lower than it normally goes, even to a point where its on, but you cant really tell that it is, its so dim. using that, maybe you can see 20 hours.

Alternative for Always On Display

I know that Always On Display saves battery for people who frequently turn on their phone to see the time/notifications.
But, it kill more battery for people who dont turn on their phone display often.
So, is there a way to alter this feature so that the 'Always on Display' turns on only on screen tap/double tap.
What i want is,
the screen should be off,
when i tap/double tap the screen - Always on display must show the time/notifications for few seconds
when i click the home/power button, the normal lock-screen must be displayed
IS THERE A WAY TO DO THAT?
Nope. Its either on or off.
Theres one thing that u can do but it still be on just in a bit different way. Turn off the always on display then set night clock. In my case i do 00:00 ~ 23:59. Still looking a way how to put clock as edge feed
Always On should definitively have a TIMER; it's absurd to work during the night and I don't need the night clock either (the only one that can currently stop the Always On).....

You can put the phone on its face. That will turn it off, just make sure you put a cloth under it so that you dont scratch the screen.
In my testing i found that AOD takes 3-4% in 9hrs overnight, thats less than 0.5%/hr. Very solid if you ask me

I prefer to be done automatically, I really think that it is something easily achievable by Samsung.
And is is not only about battery consumption but also about screen burn-in, despite all the watch movement.....
I'm using acDisplay from the play store. It allows you to cover the proximity sensor and then let go. Also kicks on when you pick it up.
