Hi all.
I've got a really weird problem with my shiny new Z5c. It refuses to charge when put in my Philips dock. I've got a Philips Fidelio AS111 (a speaker with a micro-usb-connector to put into the phone). All other phones I've tried charges with it without problems. The Z5c charges without problem with all other ways I've tried (cable to wall plug and cable to compuber). Just the combination Z5c vs AS111 doesn't work, it's like it doesn't get any current from the connector at all.
I'm thinking this might have something to do with how Sony got the phones connector water proof. Could they have done something that could affect the charging? Any other ideas? Anyone else with this problem?
/Daniel
It sounds like the dock may not output enough power. Are you sure it's getting plugged in all the way as well?
Try this method...
Connect your phone to Speaker and open Setting > Device Connection > USB Connectivity and find Detect USB Device...
I hope that's work for you...
Sometime i try to read my flashdisk through OTG, and i must detect usb device....
Sorry for my english

Yep, it goes all the way in. I've also tried wiggling it around a bit, nothing at all.
If it's simply not enough current, shouldn't the phone charge anyway, just slower? It seems strange that it should be so low that the phone doesn't even recognize it as a power source. Guess I could measure on it though. Question is how I get my voltmeter down there

Nope. Nothing. The phone just says nothing is connected. Mind you though that the phone isn't supposed to communicate with the dock using the usb port (it uses Bluetooth for that), the usb port is just for charging.
Thing is though that it isn't just a dead stupid usb port. When connecting another phone, the dock feels that something is connected and it then turns it's Bluetooth on (which is indicated by a little blinking led). When I connect the Z5c nothing of this happens, like the dock doesn't notice the phone being there at all.
My guess is that Sony did something fancy with the port to get it water proof. Something that doesn't follow the standard. Question is what...
/Daniel
+1 No charging on As111.
I read somewhere that the dock doesn't have the necessary output. Maybe the phone's fast charging capability has made the old Phillips obsolescent?
But bluetooth connection is fine - I used the phillips dockstudio app. So at least i got a bedside clock ...
Ah! At least I'm not alone, that is a good thing.
I've contacted both Philips and Sony support about this. Philips support just concluded that the dock and the phone isn't compatible (thank you mr Obvious), Sonys support hasn't answered yet. I don't have any big hopes for them solving it.
I really want this solved though. I love my AS111, it's the perfect place to charge the phone. As you say, the bt works fine, but having the phone laying next to the dock with a charging cable plugged in really feels stupid :-/
To be continued...

Well, I have a similar problem: If the Z5c is docked into my samsung dockingstation, only a message tone comes up, but no charging! Also an App which is automatically started when charging comes up shortly, but is closed after 2 seconds.

Same thing with philips as 351 dock. It does not charge xperia z5c phone. I think sony phones have a probleme with philips docs. The thing is what kind an incompability, hardware or software?

I guess it's the same with all Philips Fidelio docking devices for Android. Seems like they simply don't deliver power when they don't detect any connected device and for some reason they don't detect the Z5c. Since it's the exact same problem even when the phone is totally shut down it must be some kind of hardware issue.
Question is exactly how the dock detects connected phones...
/Daniel
Hi Daniel
Any new info on this question?
Anybody got good experience with other charging docks for Z5c, with bluetooth speaker and clock?
Not really. I did some measuring, and on a normal micro usb charger there's always 5 volts over the outermost two pins. On the micro usb contact of the Fidelio there isn't. The logical explanation would be that the dock only delivers power when it senses a connected phone and for some reason it doesn't sense the Z5c being connected. Don't really know where to go from that

Hello everyone,
I have 2 LG Quantum's, and whenever they're plugged in to my PC via USB, if I (even barely) move the micro-USB cable attached to both of the phones, it rapidly disconnects then reconnects to the computer. This has proved problematic when installing XAP's. I find it strange that both of my models do this, and would like to know if anyone else with a Quantum has the same issue? This way I'll know if it's either my USB cable or both of the phones just having a bad port.
Thanks in advance,
6-4.
I have an LG Quantum and the same thing you described happens to me when the USB cable is plugged into my laptop. But when the USB cable is plugged into a wall charger, tapping the cable doesn't disconnect the phone.
I'm using the microUSB cable that AT&T included with the phone, I don't know if that makes a difference...
I've never seen this on my LG Quantum.
Did it ever work properly on either?
It sounds hardware related. Are you always carefule when plugging and unplugging it, so that it is straight.
Do you use the same cable on the same laptop for both?
I know i just leave my cable connected to the laptop all the time.
Could be a bad cable. Try a new one or one from a friend that does not have the problem. Micro USB is on pretty much every phone, except iPhones now.
If it's only a problem for xaps. You could start using the website to install, which will install any app over the air or through WiFi. Or are you sideloading?
I had this happen to my HD7. The root cause was really silly: lint in the USB port (from keeping it in my pocket so much). Turn off the phone, remove the battery, get some good light and a sewing needle (or similar), and gently clean out the USB port. It doesn't have to be perfect, just enough that the little locking nubs on the USB cable can engage. That will let it keep a reliable connection.
I have the LG Quantum and have not seen this at all.

I thought this was for custom ROM's only? How do I do it?

This sounds like a possibility. I'll check that out later when I get home. I'm not entirely sure if it always happened, but it seems to me that it did. And re: other user who always has the issue, mine also works fine when plugged in to the wall.
He was talking about sideloading. For installing official apps directly, you can either use the Marketplace website or just use the Marketplace app on the phone. There's no need to use Zune for that, so I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant.

I am talking about side loading. I looked into the ports and found they are clean. Both phones use the same USB cable however I've tested them with others before with the same result.
Well after my microUSB cable was noticeably frayed I have replaced it, and am able to confirm that was the source of my problems.
I have had a UK SII since launch (originally on O2) but rooted and now using CM9.
Ive noticed recently that my charger needed to be wiggled a bit in the port for the phone to start charging.
Now it seems to have gotten worse and now i have to have the plug tilted in the usb port at a certain angle and apply pressure to it for it to start charging. Ive tested with 4 different leads. Connected to my laptop and phone keeps on flicking to usb debugging message so i am presuming the connections in the usb port are faulty.
Ive also cleaned a load of fluff out from it and its still the same.
The phone is just under a year old... so im hoping its covered for a 2 year cover like my old Sony Erricson phone.
Do you think they will repair this fault or make me pay due to excessive wear n tear?
I charge once a day over night, and dont use the port for much else apart from probably undre 20times connected to laptop.
Thanks
did you try the cable with something else than your phone? It looks like it's probably some broken part of the cable inside, but try anyway.
If it works fine with everything else it's your phone, if doesn't work with other things it's the cable and i'm not sure if they would replace it, because it could be your fault if it's the cable.

As I described above... i have tested the phone with 4 different usb cables/chargers.
I received my monoprice MHL adapter, plugged the hdmi cable into it, plugged the power into it and plugged it into my phone. the phone shows HDMI hooked up and my monitor will alternate between showing whats on the phone and going to a white fuzzy screen then back to mirrored than fuzzy every couple of seconds.
I plugged my brothers sensation in and it works fine so I doubt it's the adapter, he is rooted running a custom ROM.
I am unlocked and rooted but running stock rom, T-Mobile USA version.
So I went into T-Mobile and asked about this issue, they didn't know, they called tech support who in turn told them to call HTC. They gave me HTCs number, I called and explained what was going on, HTC tells me the phone ISN'T MHL compatible, that we're supposed to use the media link dongle, which costs about $100.
He suggested I try just a straight up micro hdmi cable to my tv instead.
So an older phone (sensation) has the ability, but this new high tech, best of the bunch phone can't do it, what a bunch of ****.
Edit: OK, I figured out the issue, I was running an HDMI to VGA cable to my monitor, since the monitor is a VGA connection. I then went ahead and hooked it up to another monitor that had a straight HDMI connection and it worked perfect, so VGA HDMI cable no good, straight up hdmi to hdmi works great!
Edit 2: So I just tried the MHL adapter again with the vga HDMI cable, and now it works. It's like it needed one cable to make it work and now it will work with the other, nothing changed except that I tried it another TV.
a HDMI to VGA cable? as long as you dont have special equipment this cable can't be used for anything HDMI is a completly digital standard. DVI is digital + analog so a VGA - DVI adapter is possible, but HDMI to analog is without special hardware impossible.

You are correct sir, my bad, it is a DVI cable. So just replace VGA with DVI in my first and second post.
The cable I have is this one.
Thanks.
Okay. Could be a problem with HDCP.

I'n having this issue too.. still unresolved
My MHL came in 2 days back. Hooking the phone up keeps alternating between what's on the phone and the white noise screen. I have a straightup HDMI cable going from the MHL to my LCD TV.
Any suggestions are welcome

OK, I noticed if i just go and hook up my cable to the mhl the problem comes back, the solution is to hook everything up to the phone, then reboot the phone and the problem will be gone. One other thing is make sure you have your media volume turned up as it affects sound output, so if your media volume is muted, it will also be muted or whatever volume the phone is set at. I thought I was nuts when there wasn't any sound coming from my stereo until I realized that I had my volume all the way down.
DO the reboot thing and it should work no problems, also, our phones don't need to be plugged in to your power cord to use the MHL, so I'm wondering if the MHL adapter is even necessary for us if we can live without the power cord needing to be attached.

Re: The power cord, not sure if it's 'needed' but I'm guessing without external power the phone wouldn't last an hour.
Seperate issue - When I last tried, I was playing around with it and the phone heated to a point it was slightly uncomfy holding the phone.

Yup, without the external battery going to the phone it will drain dramatically. I also noticed the heating issue you mentioned.

Update: So I tried hooking up all the cables to my phone, restarted the phone and then plugged it into the TV. It still gives me same results unfortunately. I get a display but it keeps going away every few seconds and the white noise screen appears.
What a buzzkill... My old phone (Sensation) was flawless in this respect
On my quest to make an adapter to use my Atrix Lapdock with my S4 I already destroyed an mhl adapter, and now I want to try this dock from ebay.
Has anyone had any experience with it?
Let me know, looks nice.

Be careful. I bought one of these on Amazon a while back...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C4CVT7A/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
...and I realize it might not be the same exact thing, but it looks similar in construction.
About 2 weeks after I started using it, it started shorting out and sparking! I was lucky that I was right beside it when it started happening and got my phone out of it before any damage was done. The problem was with the wiring / circuitry in the base of the unit. I threw it away immediately.
So, hopefully your will work a lot better, just be careful.

Thanks for the info. I usually buy stuff from DX, so I'm quite used to opening and doing a good quality check for every item I buy before using it!
I got the item, it works good and the build quality is good.
BUT, when you connect an external power supply, the power to the usb host port gets disconnected and the usb lines get shorted. So you can use either the USB OR the HDMI. There are 3 relays inside the device; by disabling the top one you can do the 500ms short trick and get the HDMI + USB HOST + CHARGING features, but it takes some effort.

Are you able to use or make a charge only cable (only 5V and ground)? That way the USB data lines should not be affected if the charger shorts the data pins.
Or is the one of the relays shorting the data pins inside the adapter?
Sorry, maybe I didn't explain correctly. The adapter shorts the phone's usb data pins, everything else is untouched. A delay circuit is implemented too, so it looks like they tried to do the 500ms trick but failed miserably so they sold the dock as is.
has anyone got any further with this project? I have an original Samsung smart dock and have now got the hdmi converters but nothing is shown on the lapdock screen. The adaptors and lapdock work fine as I have had it connected to my sky hd box?
Hi, did you try the adapters with a TV? My adapters work well and send a (distorted) image to the lapdock..
Yes I tried them both ways as an output to a tv and also an input to a moniter
looks pretty interesting. huh
Hi all,
Have just bought a stand for my HTC m9, it's a sleek looking bit of kit and only costs a tenner which is pretty cheap.
It is designed to work with the phone with no case although there is a removable part which allows the usage of the dot matrix case too, I've confirmed that this works too.
Chances are you may be able to fit some other cases in there but they would have to be slim, the Spigen hybrid does not fit unfortunately, possible to do some modding but that would be down to you.
You can connect this up to your laptop /PC ( USB 3 charges pretty good compared to usb2) it allows you to mount storage via the dock, also confirmed, a standard USB socket is also present on the back which can be used for OTA purposes, keyboard, mouse, gamepads, hard drive etc (untested but should work).
The design is sleek and sturdy, it holds the phone up well, could maybe use a little more weight.
Personally I got it for work so I can mount it and maybe use it as a clock, see messages via the dot matrix case, play music (can change tracks from the matrix case) so far it's working as expected.
Would recommend.

Yeah, I got one of those too, only to discover that it kills quick charge for some reason. Would not get above 150mA no matter what charger I used.

Don't say that i was beginning to like this, will have a tinker.
Actually, I'm getting a normal charge from mine. I don't like fast charge, it damages the battery. So id rather not do that. Normal charging for me. Just under two hours.
Have just noticed something. Whilst plugged into a charger, this device does not allow USB OTG? What is the point of that? If you disconnect the charger then it works very well but not whilst connected, have not tried whilst connected to a computer / laptop.

Have tried both, like i said without the cable connected it works fine, selecting it away from OTG, does switch connectivity off, however connecting a cable whether on OTG or USB de-activates it.
I know this isn't an official dock so support is going to be really limited.
Might take it apart and see how it's patched, the power source is more than likely for mounting the phone onto a computer, hence the disconnection.
