I really wana buy the phone and root it and put cm7 would I still have random shutdowns ? Please share your experience . Right now I have HTC panache from Canada if anyone wana trade
I would like to know the same question. The only difference is that I bought the g2x already and I'm about to kick t mobile in the face because this is the second one that I have had and they are extremely unstable (t mobile told me the phone was a great phone they are full of sh#t). I really like the phone and all the features, but I don't want to flash another ROM unless I know that it will fix the random boot looping, and random shutdowns. Until they give me a better phone or lg updates this thing with gingerbread then I'm stuck in a hole and don't want to do anything.
CM7 nightly #80 here. Haven't had a random shutdown/reboot/whatever since I don't know when. Then again, I install do almost every nightly, so my phone gets a reboot every other day or so. Testing Faux's kernel now.
Overall the stock rom is a sack of crap and you should definitely look into another rom/kernel. Most if not all of this phone's issues are software and more get fixed every day.
Not if you don't plan to root it and load a different ROM

I would say a big No to buying this phone now.
Had mine since release day, running CM7 now. Even though things are much better with CM7 this phone has 0 support from LG or Nvidia.
If you are in the market for a new phone I would just wait a few months and get the new Nexus thats going to be released.
N1 was my first phone then the G2x but from now on I think i'm only going to stick to Nexus line of phones as they get their support from Google.
I am with you on this one...if you can wait it out, do it. I have this strange feeling the update we get from LG will be our last. Seriously look how long it's taking them to release plain gb.

If you plan to root/flash/mod it, then YES this will be a great phone for you! Definitely buy it! The experience with stock rom seems to be hit/miss -- some people claim to have no issues, while others (myself included) had problems with random reboots and other glitches.
I rooted mine 2 days after getting it, and I've flashed several different roms onto it, and it has been a great phone. Its a beast for sure. I've settled on CM7 because I love the speed/battery-life/custom settings. But I also like Ultimate G2X 1.0 for a Froyo/Stock-based rom.

What are you basing this "feeling" off of? Its only been 2 months since the phone was released. I do think they would've been better to wait until they had gingerbread ready before releasing the phone, but this phone will be a viable piece of hardware for some time to come. Its a powerhouse.

I'm with you on sticking with the Nexus phones if you want the quickest updates to Android. However I dont think that means this is a bad phone to buy. I had the Nexus One and I loved it. I was even reluctant to switch to the G2X because I loved my N1 so much. The Nexus S wasn't enough of an upgrade for me, so I decided to go ahead and get the G2X. Looking back, I'm glad I did. This phone is amazing and I'd make the same decision again.
Granted, I bought it planning to root/mod it. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who wants a surefire 100% stable stock experience. But if you're gonna mod it then its a perfect phone. Great hardware and there are some great devs supporting this phone.
Im in canada and i bought one from Wind Mobile, (they call it the optimus 2x, but its really a G2x) I havent had a single problem with it thus far, no screen bleeding, freezes, or reboots.
If you do get one, make sure you dont make the mistake i did. When you flash it use Nvflash, and only refer to the g2x forums.
If anyone wants to buy a G2X, I have one for sale in new condition without a scratch or blemish on it. I returned 4 of them to get my current one which is perfect without any bugs and only some minor screen bleed. I don't think you can find one without any bleed at all but mine is only noticeable in a dark room with the brightness cranked to 100 while looking at a dark background. No screen bleed is noticeable during normal use. I had my G2X for almost 2 months without a single reboot, freeze or any other major problem. The battery on mine also lasts a ling time compared to some other reports I see in these forums. If your interested, make me a offer. You will get everything it came with, including the box.

Mines from Wind as well and no issues other than poor stock ROM battery life, since I've rooted it and set profiles with SetCPU and used to Titanium to freeze background bloat I can last until around 10-11PM before it's dead and needs a charge. Not the best but gets me through a day.

running rc-1 here and haven't had any problems at all. I love my phone. Love eeverything about it. But like someone said above tthere is really no support for it. And there is going to be a line of a bunch of dual core phones with probably the same specs soon to come. If I were you I might wait it out. Although it is a great phone running cm7

Due to several issues with ATT support and service my wife and I paid our ETFs to terminate our contract. The other night we were looking at T-Mobile and found a cheaper but better plan then what is offered by ATT and the free G2Xs, we jumped on board.
My question is will we like this phone? I have been doing some reading and it sounds like there might be some hardware or software issues. What is the general consensus on this forum about the phone overall? I'm coming from an HTC Aria which was rooted and running an AOSP build and I love it. My wife is coming from a 3GS, which she loves but is willing to try Android.
My phone is perfectly fine, I've only run into reboots when messing with voltages in setCPU.
Cyanogenmod nightly and fauxs kernel works brilliantly.
If you like a crazy fast phone with amazing graphics rendering and fantastic sound then you will love the phone. With Gingerbread most of the problems have been mitigated. Plus you got in on the free deal so you can't beat the price.
You'll like it.

Ever since I updated 2.3.3 (did it only to get baseband) phone is solid. Had growing pains but I'm happy with it. Might just sell the myTouch 4G spare I have. I see no need to move back to it.
Just make sure its updated with latest 2.3.3 you can flash a custom ROM. Can't speak for 2.3.3 because haven't used a stock ROM in ages.
Hardware wise its best phone, despite the bad PR
Why come to Tmobile if you are trying to leave AT&T, when it is very possible that Tmobile will be AT&T soon?
I just got my free g2x. My reboots are only when the phone gets hot which is on the wall charger. When it's charging on my PC its fine. I love it though and will give it more time.

Phone is awesome. LG/Tmobile firmware is decent with the GB upgrade. If you flash a custom rom to this thing then it is freaking amazing. Its a very powerful phone. The unlocked bootloader gives us so much freedom for customizing. Whether you decide to flash roms or not, use the nvflash tool in the development section to put clockworkmod recovery on your phones. Its much more useful than stock recovery, and if you ever want to flash a rom you're all set to do so. Just remember to revert back to stock recovery (using the same nvflash tool) if you have to ever return the phones to T-Mobile for any reason.

I have some old chargers for other phones that are the same sized, the stock one is 1w and the others I have are 700 mw and 800mw all 5 volts +/- .2
They charge slower, and keep the temperature down. I have like 3 of these hanging around.
Seriously after my full rest, the phone was noticeable cooler. This on 2.2 might not be valid on 2.3 but likely is

I love this phone, +1 for what everyone else said. Its got its issues but its still the best phone out there. The screen resolution IMO beats out any Samsung samoled, hands down. The bad news for you though is that it's more than likely going to be a snafu for you if you go with tmo. It looks like att will be buying them as of next year some time. I hear the FCC will approved this. I hope its not true. Gl

My phone works fine now after about 5-6 of them but their giving this phone away for free for a reason and that's because its a piece of crap. Never has a phone with this good a specs gone down in price so quickly and even given away for free for the second or third time. Probably should of got a HTC Sensation or MT4G Slide would of definitely been better of.

My previous phone was a HTC Aria, small and under powered compared to the new phones on the market. That being said I love the Aria; easy to root and very durable. I have looked into newer HTC devices and I have "read" that the sensation has some design issues or flaws with the screen? Digitizer? I don't think you'll find a phone out there without problems. I gave the G2X a try because I didn't want to spend any money on new phones considering I have paid my way out of an ATT contract. If the Phone is crap I can go back to my unlocked Aria.

Have you ever considered running errant apps has caused your problems? My G2X has been updated to GB, never reboots, never lockups, the wifi is perfect and screen bleed is a non issue. I never use my phone in a dark room with the brightness turned all the way up with a black background. That is the only way to see the so-called screen bleed. All IPS backlight displays have it, and I have had it on every notebook I have ever owned. It is normal and for normal usage a complete non issue. I am using my phone stock and unrooted.

I better get an ice cream sandwich after having to deal with your crap HTC. This device was full of flaws when I bought it. That was inexcusable after paying top dollar for it. Verizon (Ripoff Mobile, Inc.) was too uptight to do anything about it. I would not be surprised if all the official talk was nothing more than hot air in the end. At least developers are working on a version. I am so glad I finally had some time to get root permissions on this phone. Did you feel betrayed after buying your TBolt? Easy killer. My phone has worked mostly fine since day one. Sure there were some software issues (random reboots due to the LTE radio, GPS, the most annoying), but that is to be expected when you buy bleeding edge technology. This was the first Verizon LTE smartphone, EVER.
That being said, the device is still on par with other top devices today. I haven't upgraded, because I haven't found another device I like that much better than this. The Nexus is nice, but I'm not big on the light flimsy build of those phones, plus samsung is notorious for poor reliability. Motorola screen's have been awful so far, or I would have considered the Razr Maxx.
Bottom line...why don't you cry about it...
BTW, there is nothing special about ICS. Sure it's nice to have the newest thing, but there really isn't that much to get excited about. I still don't understand why honey comb and ICS got rid of the search button. I use that thing constantly.
I have to say I've been 99% happy with this phone since release.
The 1% was the odd rebooting issue I had for 4 weeks in aprilish.

Honestly I've liked this phone since I first got it, battery life sucked but that was nothing rooting and loading a rom couldn't fix. Other than that I'm still happy with my purchase.
I especially like it cause me and my girlfriend got phones from a good batch, handles low voltages and overclocking even up to 1.8 (not needed though) perfectly.
Thanks to all the developers who have been developing for the thunderbolt since day one, and all that are continuing to do so!

Let's see.
1. The phone was the Flagship phone for LTE and was released with Froyo.
2. The phone was buggy at release and still shows some issues.
3. Not everyone's phone was "perfect out of teh box". Some of us had to get replacements multiple times to get a *good one*.
4. ICS does have improvements over Froyo and GB.
5. Official OTA release of ICS will allow devs to create much better ROMs for this phone, rather approaching it by piecemealing parts from other Official ROMs.
6. Lastly, this phone was sold at a premium price and VZW's/HTC's support has been lackluster to be kind about it.
Note: I don't know the OP from Adam, but your experience, like mine, is anecdotal and not indicative of all others. VZW screwed the pooch on the roll-out and
HTC screwed the pooch on the releases of updates, support and finally, by rushing the damn thing out the door before it was ready.

That's with any phone these days. I haven't had a single smartphone I haven't had to replace for one reason or another.
On a side note, the Tbolt isn't the only flagship phone with problems. The Galaxy Nexus has really bad call connectivity problems from what I hear, and that's supposed to be the MAIN function of a PHONE. lolz
All i will buy is htc. I know updates are slow to come. I also dont care. The newest isnt always the best, there are usually a fresh set of bugs to work out. That being said, the devs here and other sites give me enough variety to satisfy me. If you dont like the process, learn to code.

If you care, go call them and say what you said directly as it will do far more good for you and for the community.
I moved onto a Nexus, but I still use my Thunderbolt for development testing apps I make. Not even the Nexus is perfect though as the internal antennas are not as powerful at picking up data. My db is usually 10-15db worse than the thunderbolt. However, I would not trade my Nexus for any other phone as I got tired of having to wait on HTC and Verizon for updates on the Thunderbolt.
i just lol at this thread.
Im an HTC fan. I got my tbolt on launch day and have never had an issue (not saying some havent) but I couldn't be happier.
Still have yet to find one phone on the market that has everything the tbolt has (not including dual core, which has not really impressed me) and still think it is a top 4g phone.
I would buy it all over again. We have received everything promised so far & it would be a nightmare for HTC to not give us ICS after they confirmed it...
I also have to say that Verizon did not screw up or delay the launch. There was never an official launch date given from them or HTC until the week before release, as is the norm with their releases. All other dates were made up by the internet and people.
HTC released about 6 updates to the phone between march and September, I think that is pretty good at keeping on top of it..

Everyones phone is gonna be better or worse than the next guy. Did we get screwed by Verizon??? Show me where in writing the promise a full ICS upgrade and you will see thousands of TB owners lining up to sue the piss off Verizon and HTC.
If you are gonna stay up on the newest devices, Hopefully you are not paying retail for the devices, Shop around and you will be amazed at what you can find.
I have a galaxy nexus just sitting on stand-by cause i've had no problems with my tbolt, besides the dev slowing down i really have no problems with my tbolt and has been my favorite phone. while it would be nice to get ICS soon im not tripping about it, my contract for the thunderbolt ends in december much wait and see what comes out by then.

The two people I know with a nexus have had quite a few issues with their phones.. biggest problems being being signal and when leaving WiFi they don't get data until turning their data off and back on... Point is what ever phone you go to there will be something that bugs you about it and the update that fixes your problem will never come out fast enough.. be happy for what you have..

i never get tired of forum drama, except that it makes me crave ham.
I haven't had a problem since day 1. I got home, rooted it and put liquid smooth on. I've always been one to have a new rom every week but this one's been so good with battery life and everything that I haven't even tried another one. I love this phone. On another note, my brother got the same phone and has had problems. Just like any other electronic item, you might get a dud.
you know, I have been with LG for quite some time now, but I do have to say that the LG G Flex 2 was a huge disappointment. I have owned the G2, Original G Flex, G3 and the Flex 2 and it was by far the worst phone. I absolutely loved my G2 and then got the Original Flex to try out and loved it (except for the screen res and burn in effect). When the G3 came out I loved it but had a few problems, like sticking with the SD801 was a bad decision and made the phone laggy due to the screen, and there were ways to speed it up and it turned out to be a great phone.
But now that LG has started to gain popularity with their mobile devices, I am worried that they are going to let it go to their heads and start cutting corners. I am going to try LG one more time to see how they handle this disappointment, and trust me they know this phone bombed because the world has let them know how bad it really is. I hope that the G4 is going to blow everyone away and restore all of us die hard fans' faith in the company. I know alot of people are going to this from the G2, and are disappointed in the speed of the phone. so if you dont mind a big phone, I went with the Nexus 6 and could not be happier, this phone blows me away by how fast and responsive it is. this phone is a Rooting Person's Dream lol
I do have to say i will miss my LG, but for people out there wanting to upgrade now, I think if you can wait just alittle bit longer, then wait. this phone isnt worth the upgrade and wait for the G4. but if you are looking for an amazing phone, I have to say go with the Nexus 6
You should have hung in there for the update it runs fantastic now all the transitions are smooth and the phone is very good now
Nexus 6 was just too big for me.
If your only issue with the phone was the lag then you should have waited a bit..., I personally love this phone.

Was all the lag fixed with a firmware update, then?
Not all but the most.
I'm on 10b and its good now.
10d is better but not available for Vodafone germany. The software/ui wasn't optimized for the snapdragon 810.
Gta San Andreas runs very smooth with max settings
I personally haven't had a lot of lag. But I just got my phone 4/4 and the update had already been released. What I do have is battery issues. Neither my nor my friends phone will read my samsung 64 GB sd card and infact if i put the card into either phone it immediately corrupts the data forcing a reformat.
This combined with the relatively absent dev community is likely going to force me into a Galaxy s6 on the 10th
That being said There are some things this phone did completely right and I wish Samsung would have stepped their sh*t up a notch.
Frankly the current offerings fail to excite me and these upgrades feel lackluster.
From my galaxy s5 with a sweet Dev community to the G flex 2 with *cricket cricket* no dev community.
TBH if i didn't have the above mentioned issues and little things
(for example smart remote not deploying into notification panel despite the fact that i chose home wifi and was connected to it., The youtube app not letting me pause a video.) That may be Lolliflop issues and I would be surprised if a lot of those type of bugs go away when 5.1 hits.
Lately Android seems to trying to be more iPhone like meanwhile apple is stealing Android features by the bushel and becoming more android like.
I will likely never buy an apple product do to the lack of transparency and also hatred for the walled garden.
That being said android needs to wow me. I kind of wish I had waited to pull the trigger on upgrading but I traded in my phone after a year with sprint and now Have to take a step up.
It looks like it's going to be an s6 for me.
But I curse the loathsome curr dogs Samsung for taking away my microSd and My removable battery.
But alas I need to get a real phone with a dev community.
Or else start learning to dev myself.

Neither my nor my friends phone will read my samsung 64 GB sd card and infact if i put the card into either phone it immediately corrupts the data forcing a reformat.

I don't have problems with lag, battery or the other problems your phone has. Did you try a factory reset?
I agree the lack of devs is discouraging.

I think a lot of dev are waiting to see if this phone bootloader will be unlockable because the first og G Flex was able to be rooted but the bootloader was locked on tight that's the reason it also lacked in the development section.

The s5 had knox and it was still defeated. If enough devs get this phone ( big if) someone will defeat it.
If i were lg i would be trying to do everything I could to move phones.
That would include pandering to the modders.
Lets be honest here most of us here on are the most tech savvy people in our family/friend circles.
At least i am. And all my friends and family follow my lead as far as phones.
Everybody has a galaxy s5 in my family. It's because I recommended it to them. I definitely can't recommend LG based on the super locked boot loader. Nor the issues I've had. Tbh im prob returning for an s6. As long as bootloader is unlocked.

Your right but it's very risky for these devs to just put out the cash for a phone that your to not sure is going to succeed in the development department especially with the locked boot loader. The original Flex was a nightmare when it came down to development but overall the phone was great so I stuck with it for a whole year.
I was waiting for the flex 2 but saw too many reasons to not get it so I decided to buy the nexus 6 right out for $500 brand new sealed and I don't regret it at all and plus I still have my upgrade available so I could use it for a device well worth in quarter 4.

Hey guys, Sorry havent had the chance to check in, but I am glad that most have had updates to fix alot of the problems. I am on sprint and 9 times out of 10 sprint is the last to provide any updates for a phone for some reason. I really did like the phone and im sure I will try LG again in the future, but I didnt want to be stuck with a phone I was having so many issue's with until they decided to throw out an update, and we know sometimes that can be months. The Nexus 6 is big but I love it and the battery life is ALOT better than my G3 and the Flex 2, but nothing has beaten the G2. I sure wish LG could find a way to bring back the best of performance and battery life like they did on the G2.
just out of curiousity, are any of you guys on sprint? I was just curious if sprint did release an update

I'm pretty sure he will with all the development that's going on on that device lol.
Took mine back and got me a note 4 . Sold my nexus 6 for the flex 2 because i didn't like it and i hated the flex2 more than the nexus6 . This could have been a killer phone

oh yes, loving the development on this phone. im constantly trying new roms and kernels.. havent seen support like this since the OG Evo.
But also, I have multiple lines on my account, so I get a new phone every six months. so while you are still using this I will have probably gotten three phones to your one. Peace

yea, i cant seem to make up my mind so i just try them all... lol
but coming from LG's I hate how the USB OTG doesnt auto mount thru the UI, I loved that feature. and Stickmount is ok but it still doesnt make it work with all apps
also, just out of curiousity... I have had LG for awhile and liked the UI, but the Flex 2 was the first time it was just super laggy and I never really cared for other launchers, but now that I have the Nexus 6 and have been playing with Stock Google and AOSP roms, I didnt care for the Google Launcher so I started playing with others and really like Apex. It works great for me and I can customize and setup just how I like..
So has anyone with the Flex 2 tried any other launchers on it and if so how did it work. was it an instant transformation or was there still some issues?
As the title says really. How many of you still have the Sensation? I've had mine 4 years this June. Its still running ok, but seems very slow now. Also extramly limitied with the 1GB of internal memory compared to other phones now.
I think its time to say goodbye and maybe use it in my car for GPS.
Anyone feel the same? What phones have you thought about going to?
I unfortunately had to get the xperia m2 add the audio jack was broken and the mobile days antenna was a bit screwed. Still prefer the sensation over the m2 though. Still use the sensation sometimes though
Still using my Senny, but using any other ROM than KK compiled by myself is really annoying.
Anyway, this phone is still quite good for normal using (I'm not playing games, only internet, calling and sms).
Still going, anker battery showing its age now. Using cm11 by ivanich. Cm12 too slow for me.
Sent from my Sensation using XDA Free mobile app
i'm using it with vipers rom
Just got a Sensation XE in preserved condition, save for a drop when the USB was connected, so uh...Hi!
Had my first sensation xe in 2012 and regretted every moment when i sold it back in 2013. In 2014 i tried to find another sensation as a 2nd phone but sadly its pretty scarce in my country. A friend of mine offered to sell his xe for a sweet price and i grabbed it! i still love the xe, pretty good for music, online tv and the usual call & text
Had mine for around 2years before the capacitive buttons became unresponsive..nice phone though.
I've had mine for 3 years now and it's still able to handle the light tasks I need it to handle. If I were to upgrade soon I think I'd wait to see what plans Google has with the new Nexus.
Been using it for the past 3 years. I update once every 6 months to the latest happening ROM. Currently I'm on CM12 (Ivanich) with an 8G SD-EXT on a 32G Samsung Pro card. No more 'insufficient storage' problems.
While not as snappy as the modern phones due to older processor and low ram, it performs well without any major hassles for the kinds of apps I use (mail. im, maps, browsing etc.). I had to replace the original batteries with Anker though.
I still actually have this phone. Unfortunately, I had to switch to another phone due screen problems, but I fixed it and I keep it as 2nd phone in case of need...and I reverted it to Gingerbread, it was a fantastic release in my opinion
I am still using my sensation XE, with stock ROM.
It is still working also I did a root, S-OFF, 4EXT.
Tried: CM-9,CM-11,CM-12, SlimKat, Revolution-HD, Carbon-KK.
I like all of these ROMs but they "eat" my battery very fast like about 15hrs .. . which is not suitable for me plus the fact that using the Stock ROM I had like battery energy
for 24hrs-to 48hrs MAX (depends on the load of using it).
The problem could be just in my battery, can't tell for sure but with my stock it lives longer without charging.
So far I am locked with stock ROM.
im still using Sensation 4g with SLIM KAT rom.Low app storage is the problem
Still using it now, runing CM12 by Ivanich. I use it well under my optimization. But if CM13 stops its update for G14, I think it's time to change a new phone.
Selling mine
Sadly, I just decided to put our two Sensations up for sale on SWAPPA. :crying: I learned a lot about Android phones by rooting & flashing many ROMs on mine.
Great phone, totally reliable and looks awesome too. But, it's being overtaken by newer tech.
Can't say I'm real thrilled with the replacement phones we got from TMO (Alcaltel Pop Astro) but at least they do LTE and VoLTE on TMO's full spectrum.
I just sold my oneplus one, back on the senny for a week, waiting for my replacement (g4 ? redmi note 2 ?)
what is the best rom ? cm12.1 is a little slow, viper s too....
I was forced back to this phone just yesterday actually, glad i kept it. I botched a flash on the LG G3 and hard bricked it (like totally, nothing on screen, buttons don't do anything board diag shows failure, still shows up as LG in the device manager so the qualcomm fixes wont work).
It seemed really sluggish, and had parts of apps everywhere on it (i stole its SD card for my LG ), so i flashed Slimkat on it. works nicely enough, though i've noticed that any rom that is over 4.0.2 (what it originally came with), just doesn't perform as well as stock. However the clean OS and the extra ram from a complete clean like that, will make it standable until the LG is replaced.
What I like about it is that it is very robust. My little daughter wasn't able to destroy it yet.
So I guess I will stick with it as long as I can.
I had mine for about 3 years, first rom I ever flashed was android resolution HD, then vipers.
I still have it. Sensation never die, now it have android 6.0 and its awesome.
