I've been running my S6 with this rom for a long while now and it has been perfect. However, in recent days, the push notifications on google, namely Gmail, no longer work. I've done the usual, deleted data from services framework and Gmail and i've removed and re-added the account but it still doesn't work. I've checked that it syncs 30 days etc and all the settings are right. I've changed NOTHING on my phone, it just suddenly stopped doing it. The only way I know I have emails is to open the Gmail app and refresh. I guess a wipe and re-install would do it, but I am trying to avoid that.
Any ideas on this one?

I have read the other posts on this problem and tried all they suggested - Clearing Gmail Cache and data - I get the messages online in my browser but they never push to my S3. I can open the Gmail app and do a refresh there, and then the new messages come through. But only if I manually refresh. It was working for the first few days I had my S3, but then it stopped working.
DO I have a setting wrong? Sync is on and I get my Yahoo and corporate mail. Seems to be something with Gmail
Thanks in advance guys.

I know I have somewhat the same issue. I find that my Accounts Sync in the Settings gets turned off. I think it started happening after I installed the Go Power Master when I switched to the GO Launcher. I have to go in and switch it back on every morning. Hope this helps!

I have checked that ... First thing I checked ... I am getting my other e-mails and text ... just not Gmail
Go into gmail/settings/your account email/ring+vibrate/days of mail to sync, and be sure none is NOT selected.
Try that

Apps - Google services framework. Clear data and reboot.
gmail push no longer working!
Hello XDA,
I am having this same problem with gmail sync / push. I just flashed my S3 to BoneStock ROM 3.0 with VRBMF1 and now when emails show up on my desktop's browser I get nothing on my phone. I've looked at SETTINGS->ACCOUNTS->GOOGLE and all google services are all set to sync but last sync time on gmail never changes by itself. It will only refresh if I open the gmail app manually on my phone.
Before flashing my phone I would receive email and notifications immediately but now, sadly, it doesn't work like that. I've tried these things without success:
Clear data/cache in Gmail app from App Manager, then reboot phone
Clear data/cache in Google Account Manager from App Manager, then reboot phone
Clear data/cache in Google Services Framework from App Manager, then reboot phone
All of the above and reboot phone
I'm thinking I might reinstall the ROM but without installing the gmail app during the app selection process. Instead installing it from Google Play after getting to the phone's desktop the first time. This will allow me to uninstall it completely and reinstall it if I am still having problems but I really don't want to have to reflash the ROM if I can help it.
I looked through the gmail app, there isn't too much available in terms of sync'ing options. Nor items that might help me debug this issue. I'm really out of ideas on this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-Greg
Nevermind, on my question.
After I did the things I listed I noticed that the play store wouldn't connect. Every time I ran it, it would just say: "no connection" with retry button that wouldn't do anything. I couldn't figure out how to fix this problem, I think it was caused by clearing out Google Account Manager data or Google Services Framework data - reboots didn't do anything.
I just did a fresh install of BoneStock and my gmail push notifications are working correctly now. Hopefully it stays that way...
Open Gmail, press menu soft key, settings, select your email address, make sure sync Gmail is checked and the setting below it says at least 30 days.
Also make sure the top option where it says inbox type is set to default inbox.
Then select inbox sound & vibrate and make sure you have a sound is set and also check the box beside where it says notify for every message.
You should now be golden.
*This was posted for the others who still have this issue *
I'm glad you got it working though.

The first 2 days I had my Nexus 5 Gmail would push mail perfectly. However, now I am not receiving any new mail even though I always have a full data connection. Auto sync is turned on, label notifications are turned on.
Anyone know why mail is no longer being pushed to me? I already tried deleting the app cache and data but that didn't work either.
Bump, issue still persists
After resetting my Nexus 5 to factory last night my gmail push notifications aren't working either
I tried what you did, no luck. Factory reset again, no change. Added alternate gmail accounts and push works for none of them. Setup phone with a gmail account that's never had an android phone associated with it, no push either
Hangouts push works fine on the other hand
Has anyone come up with a solution? I only receive gmail if I click on the app and manually swip down to refresh.
are you using greenify to greenify gmail by chance?
about a week or two ago, I had this issue (where gmail wasn't pushing new emails and I had to go in to the app to manually refresh). The problem lasted for 2-3 days, and then it started working again. I assume that the problem was on Google's end, as I didn't change any settings.
Hi guys,
for quite some time now on my Nexus 10 all of the Google apps (i.e. calendar, Gmail, contacts, keep and so on) do not sync automatically in the background.
All apps work fine, they sync when I open them. But they do not otherwise. Which means: I do not receive email notifications and other reminders! All non-Google apps like Facebook and so on seem to work properly.
What did I change?
I installed Lollipop
I encrypted the device
I tried Inbox and went back to Gmail
nothing else I am aware of...
In the settings for my Google account all the apps are checked to auto sync. I tried to unceck, restart, re-check and such things. I also tried to delete the cache, uninstall Gmail, restart, install again and such things. Nothing seems to work!
Any ideas!?
Edit:
I run stock ROM, device is not rooted, installed only OTA updates, currently its 5.0.2
I may have stopped "google framwork services" last week, but I do not think this is related.
Basically, my gmail app no longer gets push notifications or syncs automatically.
I have android 5.0.1. nexus 5 and the latest gmail app versions. I have checked all settings in the app, and made sure that all my sync settings are enabled. I can see that the last sync of gmail was over 30 minutes ago, yet I've sent emails to my gmail account since then and they appear on the web version.
The app won;t show new emails until I manually refresh within the app.
Please help. I googled a bit and saw that some people with a similar issue dod a "factory reset" to solve. that seems a bit extreme. Is there any other way around this.
I've done all the usual things, cleared data in gmail app and forced stop and restarted phone.
I even removed my google account and readded it. nothing worked.

If you cleared data of Google Services Framework, it resets your GCM push id. Apps usually request this id the first time they are opened, and will usually re-request it every few weeks/months. Clear data of gmail and Play Services, then remove and re-add your Google Account.
thank you Elluel.
I'll try that now. (I've also just tried a wipe of the system cache form the recovery menu, this didn't help.
That seems to have MUCH improved things. Mails are coming in within a minute now, whereas before it would not sync for hours even with all settings set to ON.
Thanks... I'll see how it goes.

I did this same thing and couldn't get it figured out this worked right away!
So, we have 2 ATT GS5 phones that have been updated to Lollipop since the software was released. On May 7th, my wife's phone just stopped syncing Gmail. Funny thing is, it syncs all the other google services under accounts (Calendar, Contacts etc...) When you look at Gmail under accounts, where all the google services are, the Sync arrows never go away on the Gmail section. Also, since I cleared all app data, when you go into Gmail for the first time, it just stays at the pulling down email screen.
-I tried clearing Gmail app cache and data buttons, no good.
-Tried the uninstall updates button, rebooted, re-installed updates, no good.
-Rebooting phone and removing batter, no good.
-Tried clearing off all her pictures/videos to make more space (now have 5GB free), no good.
What else is there?
open the setting

there are nothing to do gmail your gmail app. go to setting. search for accounts and sync setting there you can check or open the Background Data also you can check in Auto Sync. also you may find their your gmail accounts so you sync them manually.
