[Q] Help Please - My Gmail will not Push to S3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have read the other posts on this problem and tried all they suggested - Clearing Gmail Cache and data - I get the messages online in my browser but they never push to my S3. I can open the Gmail app and do a refresh there, and then the new messages come through. But only if I manually refresh. It was working for the first few days I had my S3, but then it stopped working.
DO I have a setting wrong? Sync is on and I get my Yahoo and corporate mail. Seems to be something with Gmail
Thanks in advance guys.

I know I have somewhat the same issue. I find that my Accounts Sync in the Settings gets turned off. I think it started happening after I installed the Go Power Master when I switched to the GO Launcher. I have to go in and switch it back on every morning. Hope this helps!

I have checked that ... First thing I checked ... I am getting my other e-mails and text ... just not Gmail

Go into gmail/settings/your account email/ring+vibrate/days of mail to sync, and be sure none is NOT selected.
Try that

gmail push no longer working!
Hello XDA,
I am having this same problem with gmail sync / push. I just flashed my S3 to BoneStock ROM 3.0 with VRBMF1 and now when emails show up on my desktop's browser I get nothing on my phone. I've looked at SETTINGS->ACCOUNTS->GOOGLE and all google services are all set to sync but last sync time on gmail never changes by itself. It will only refresh if I open the gmail app manually on my phone.
Before flashing my phone I would receive email and notifications immediately but now, sadly, it doesn't work like that. I've tried these things without success:
Clear data/cache in Gmail app from App Manager, then reboot phone
Clear data/cache in Google Account Manager from App Manager, then reboot phone
Clear data/cache in Google Services Framework from App Manager, then reboot phone
All of the above and reboot phone
I'm thinking I might reinstall the ROM but without installing the gmail app during the app selection process. Instead installing it from Google Play after getting to the phone's desktop the first time. This will allow me to uninstall it completely and reinstall it if I am still having problems but I really don't want to have to reflash the ROM if I can help it.
I looked through the gmail app, there isn't too much available in terms of sync'ing options. Nor items that might help me debug this issue. I'm really out of ideas on this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-Greg

Nevermind, on my question.
After I did the things I listed I noticed that the play store wouldn't connect. Every time I ran it, it would just say: "no connection" with retry button that wouldn't do anything. I couldn't figure out how to fix this problem, I think it was caused by clearing out Google Account Manager data or Google Services Framework data - reboots didn't do anything.
I just did a fresh install of BoneStock and my gmail push notifications are working correctly now. Hopefully it stays that way...

Open Gmail, press menu soft key, settings, select your email address, make sure sync Gmail is checked and the setting below it says at least 30 days.
Also make sure the top option where it says inbox type is set to default inbox.
Then select inbox sound & vibrate and make sure you have a sound is set and also check the box beside where it says notify for every message.
You should now be golden.
*This was posted for the others who still have this issue *
I'm glad you got it working though.

Gmail Issue: Waiting For Sync

Everything was working good until a few days ago. Now the Gmail app states that is waiting for sync. Your email will appear shortly..
And it never does. Ive tried turning off and back on the auto sync and tried to manually sync but I get an error message that says
Sorry!
The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Does anyone have an idea on how I can get it up and running again? Thanks.
I'm on JF's RC33
Ok, I figured it out. I went into settings and Gmail Storage and cleared out the data. Then I went back into gmail and entered my account information again and it seems to be syncing now. Really weird, I dont know how it just stopped working. Anyway, hope this helps someone in the future.
Gmail
Dont know if you have docs to go. but when i uninstalled docs to go gmail started working again for me. Now i reinstalled docs to go and havent had any problems yet.
Reinstall any apps you've been using to send attachments (eg. Note Everything, Doodleroid etc.), clear out your gmail and gmail storage data, and it should work.
Try to avoid sending multiple attachments at once: for example if you send one and it 'stalls' and you try to send it again, it could do this to your gmail.
I also had this issue. I resolved this issue by turning sync back on. Once I enabled sync, I was able to get right into my gmail account.
Similar problem here
(Using CM 5.0.8 final on my original black G1)
I can manually sync with the server to get email, but syncing seems to happen maybe once a day for the past week or so. It used to happen so frequently that i'd see email on my phone before i'd see it in my web browser if i was at a computer.
Haven't changed anything recently... Tried rebooting the phone of course.
Can't find the tool for clearing out gmail on my phone, so i haven't tried that.
any other theories?
thanks
Edit: Turned off sync everywhere and rebooted. Got stuck in a boot loop.
Used amon ra recovery console to wipe dalvik cache
Boot loop is fixed
Refresh problem seems fixed too.
yay?

Facebook Sync Experiencing Problems Error

I have the At&t Captivate, but it looks like this is an issue that could stretch across all Galaxy S phones. A quick Google search will bring up quite a few posts/threads on Samsung's Facebook page about it too.
I use the built-in SNS sync for Facebook, which is what Samsung uses under the default Android Account settings.
I've flashed a few ROMs, and at some point (I think it was after trying some of the I9000 ROMs), my Facebook wouldn't sync my contacts anymore. I get the message "sync is currently experiencing problems. try again later".
The things I've tried:
-Flash back to stock & other ROMs
-Clear all cache data in CWM
-Delete SNS Account data under Application Settings
-Delete Samsung Mobile from my applications on Facebook
-Changing my Facebook password
-Tried logging in with someone else's Facebook account, same error with their's
The Android Facebook app loads up fine, but with Samsung, it doesn't sync contacts, it forces you to use SNS for that.
Under Contacts, if I go to the Activity tab, I can see the news feed, but it still errors out and won't pull any contacts over.
Any other suggestions?
Facebook changed how it does authentication, guessing samsung hasnt updated to handle that yet.
Odd that mine works fine. Only time I have seen problems is if I don't log into google account first after flashing. Just flashed to andromeda and everything synced fine.
After you've signed into facebook (settings->accounts) try going into the contact app itself and press the menu button.
2 options might work.
1. "sync sns data"
2. "get friends"
Hope this helps

I had Google setup since its required for the Market, but I didn't sync anything with it (I use Exchange), so just to try it, I checked for it to sync contacts and tried again and still got the error.

I've tried that too, and it just seems to initiate the same SNS Sync and errors out.

I'm not sure about that since some people seem to have no problems with it. I also tried someone else's Facebook account just to make sure it wasn't a setting in mine, and her's didn't work either.

no notifications for Gmail

Since Lollipop upgrade I do not receive notifications for every new email I receive. There no longer seems to be a setting for Push notification in the mail settings but there is a setting 'receive notification for every new mail' and I have checked that in each (3) Gmail account I have. None of them work! I checked Sync settings in all accounts and it is set to on as well for each. Possibly this is a Sync issue Google is having?
Unlike other threads about 'silent mode', I want to hear that I have an email as soon as I get one! I have Notifications set to 'ALL.'
I have the exact same issue. I tried rebooting, clearing gmail data and cache, turning off sync and back on again, turning gmail sync off and on again etc etc.
Only thing I haven't tried is removing the google account and re-adding.
Not sure if this is a coincidence but I noticed it wasn't working after I installed Nine for exchange emails.
Gmail app has always only been push. There's never been an option to not push.
If you have inbox installed, that may tale over notifications - which by default doesn't notify for every bundle.
Otherwise after an upgrade, maybe a factory reset is required.
No interference from "nine" here.
It isn't pushing. I have to manually refresh to force the Inbox in the Gmail App to sync/refresh. I am getting no email notifications at all for 3 separate Google Accounts. I only use the stock Gmail App, nothing else. It was working fine on 4.4, not so much on 5.0. I expect when there are updates for there to be issues. I would find it hard to believe I am the only one. I hope others will see this thread and something is figured out.

Pushing and notifications are 2 different things. So what you actually mean is its not syncing?
Anyway advice still stands, may need to wipe

Yes and by not syncing I am not getting notifications. Calendar seems to work. I get notifications from the calendar. I don't get them from Gmail. It is reporting a sync error in the account settings. Data wipe isn't cool but I guess it is all backed up in the cloud.
I fixed it by removing my Google account from settings, accounts. All good now no reset required

OK Glad you fixed it, however I'm still hazy on the problem
Syncing = delivering messages to your phone via PUSH
Notification = Once delivered, notifying you
So it was syncing and new emails were appearing in the app, but you weren't getting the notification only?
I removed all accounts and added them back. It was also effecting Hangout messages. Everything appears to be working as it should!
The symptom that I noticed was not receiving a notification when I sent myself a test email. The cause of that was in fact a problem with Sync. When I opened Gmail the test message I sent myself was not there unless I manually refreshed. Obviously if it is not Syncing then you don't get a notification, the only part I noticed right off the bat. I was also being sent Hangout messages and not getting notice of them. Again launching the app forced it to refresh.

[Q] Gmail push email no longer working

I may have stopped "google framwork services" last week, but I do not think this is related.
Basically, my gmail app no longer gets push notifications or syncs automatically.
I have android 5.0.1. nexus 5 and the latest gmail app versions. I have checked all settings in the app, and made sure that all my sync settings are enabled. I can see that the last sync of gmail was over 30 minutes ago, yet I've sent emails to my gmail account since then and they appear on the web version.
The app won;t show new emails until I manually refresh within the app.
Please help. I googled a bit and saw that some people with a similar issue dod a "factory reset" to solve. that seems a bit extreme. Is there any other way around this.
I've done all the usual things, cleared data in gmail app and forced stop and restarted phone.
I even removed my google account and readded it. nothing worked.

If you cleared data of Google Services Framework, it resets your GCM push id. Apps usually request this id the first time they are opened, and will usually re-request it every few weeks/months. Clear data of gmail and Play Services, then remove and re-add your Google Account.
thank you Elluel.
I'll try that now. (I've also just tried a wipe of the system cache form the recovery menu, this didn't help.
That seems to have MUCH improved things. Mails are coming in within a minute now, whereas before it would not sync for hours even with all settings set to ON.
Thanks... I'll see how it goes.

Gmail sync problems

I bought Moto G 2015 three weeks ago, and phone has been upgraded to MM on first day of use.
I used Galaxy S3 for many years before and never had gmail sync problems, but now I have.
The problem appears in no push message that I have new gmail emails. Only when I open Gmail app or sync manually, I can see new emails.
I have many apps installed, such as Viber, Facebook Messenger, Mail.ru (another email client), all messages from them are recieved immediately. The problem is only with Google.
Does anyone have the same problem? Is there some solution of this? All that could be done was done. I loose all hope to fix it.

For some stupid reason this is the default behavior of Gmail...
Go to Settings -> Accounts -> Google and turn the slider on for Gmail, should be good after that. Sometimes have to press the overflow menu and select "Sync Now" to sort of jump start it.

Of course I have Gmail slider on all time.
I send email from PC to myself and CC to my wife -- wife's phone notifies about new email immediatelly, but my moto G can keeps silence for many hours (or days?).

Had to ask... Many people have noted that is off by default, depends how you setup your device in the wizard.
I assume you have cleared caches, cleared data on Gmail, tried removing updates and reinstalling them, etc?

Yes, I did all of this abovementioned things.
I just added gmail account to another email client (mail.ru), and tried to send several emails to myself -- notifications come momentally!
It turns out that is someting wrong with gmail app? But the same version works good on wife's phone.
I've had this issue intermittently as well. It did not occur with 5.1.1. Seems to be a bug introduced with Marshmallow. I cleared the data of the Gmail app and that seems to have mostly cured it for now.
bug or feature? i had the same issue...
a battery saver function seems to be the culprit for me
settings > battery > menu > battery optimization
turn optimization off for gmail
it went back to getting mail that shows up in the middle of the nite
[i turned the battery saver off and still get good life
but i'm not using the phone for much now...]
I cleared cache of gmail, rolled back to firmware version, turned off battery optimization for gmail -- nothing helps me.
But yesterday I installed many others email clients, which work with gmail -- EVERY of them notifies about new emails monentally, but not gmail. And EVERY of them has battery optimization turned on..
Could this be related to Doze mode? When in Doze mode synchronizations are "dozed" and can be delayed up to 30 minutes, typically 5-10 though... Didn't even think of that

It seems that I resoved the problem!
Apps -- google play services -- manage data -- clear all data
Since I did this, I have every new email notification and sync! I tried to find solution all this time.
Battery optimization is on for gmail and all work as it should right now.
I hope.
Happiness was short. In a hour I send ti myself email and didn't receive notification. Went to google account sync settings and there was exclamation mark near gmail. Pressed to sync mannually and new email has come.
That's definitely problem with Google sync..
Nothing remains, but must install other email client.
