It probably will. I reckon it will be an evolution as opposed to an evolution. That's my hope anyway

Google have been working with Samsung the last year. Hopefully the've re-written TW from the ground up. Looking forward to this one..

Seems icon will be like this

I hope galaxy S7 UI is faster and smoother then Nexus 6P.

NOTE 5 Touchwiz is much better than Plain and boring stock android.i seriously dont know whats wrong with people how the hell they prefer terrible looking featureless stock android over touchwiz.

i dont think it will be changing to a better one , since samsung is doing the same thing over and over again.

Probably because TW has been literally the same for the past 8 years.

If these are the real icons i like these.

I just hope they don't keep the white background as seen on the marshmallow's beta builds on the s6.

do you guys think this phone will be better than the Nexus 6P?

I guess it will be because of the collab rumors with google to smoothen the ui. This galaxy seems as if it is a polished s6.

It's a trade-off. Definitely not as smooth as stock android, but the features blow stock away.
Plus, with custom, Touchwiz-based ROMs and kernels you get the smoothness back. I don't hate it.

I mean he can't really be wrong, it's just his opinion.
Whether or not that opinion is based on recent AOSP roms is another story though...

Makes no business sense. I heard that rumor many times without any actual proof. While I keep thinking about it. what incentives google has for helping Samsung? None!
It's not like Samsung has problems to sell phones, or Google will lose money if it doesn't help Samsung. For example, all nexus phone suffer from bad battery life. I have used 2 nexus, both were terrible batterylife. If GGogle was so good, they should first improve their own software implementation before helping others, right?

[Q] Another "I cant decide which Phone" thread

Hey,
I cant decide which phone I should get. I cant decide between the Samsung Galaxy Note and Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
Pro's and Con's:
Note is bigger, but seems to lagg a bit.
Note's screen is easily damagable (I read about it on XDA).
Nexus is pure Google and gets easy updates.
Nexus has many bugs, and seems to be a banana phone (maturate at the customer).
Nexus is fast(?)
More?! Help me please!
I use my phone for several tasks:
Browsing the web
Twitter
RSS Feeds
Mails
Developing
Facebook
Some games
If you feel the need to ask the question, then you should go with the Note. If you don't know what it means to own a Nexus, you will not appreciate it.
SGS1 is my first Android Phone and I love it, because I don't have to use messed up Samsung ****. I bought it and switched to custom ROMS like CM7 and now CM9. (*cough* before I used an iPhone *cough*)
What means a Nexus?

I never used TouchWiz so much on my SGS1. Is it better as 1 and a half ago? And I don't use it now.
But how is the performance of the nexus? Fast? How is it with the bugs? I read there are a lot? How is the display? Against the Note?

Of course it is fast, all new high end phones are fast. The GPU is slightly better in the SGSII and the Note, but the lightweight software optimized specifically for the nexus easily makes up for that. There were bugs when it first came out, but that is to be expected with the first phone with ICS. They have been ironed out through updates though. The display is a matter of opinion. Some like the Nexus, some like the note.

I can remember my hardcore SGS1 times, LagFix and so on, I tweaked the hell out of my phone ^^
And now I am to lazy, I only want to root and a software update here and there. But not loose all data and so on. If you know what I mean.
My father has the known galaxy is beautiful and is a cross between tablet and phone and not even look so great ... Also the screen is beautiful .. Regarding the nexus has already being done by google ics also be updated for the first ... If I had to choose to take the notes is really HUGE

Touchwiz ruins the Galaxy S4 for me

Disclaimer!!
This thread ain't intended to start a flame war or to bash me because you can download new diallers, contacts etc just my opinion on touchwiz after seeing various youtube video's and to see if I am not the only one who feels this way.
First of all I am a fanatic bordering on OCD when it comes to the look and feel of the OS as well as the apps which run on top of it and my biggest gripe back when I had my first android phone was that applications varied wildly in the quality of design and aesthetics and Google had a lot of work ahead of it to tidy up the UI to get it up to the standard of iOS for a uniform feel and to get developers to have a similar feel across the board for their apps.
Android is and always was a superior OS just to clear that up I am not an iOS fanboy!
Fast forward to today and Android has changed so much it blew me away all the apps now look and feel like they follow the guidelines set out by Google with the holo theme (I had a Google Nexus 720p and sold it purely because all the apps looked well out of place) and everything is very smooth with next to no lag or stutter so consider me impressed.
However this is what bugs me now, when I first got a Galaxy S II touchwiz looked good and it added some nice little touches and over all and made a very nice change to Sense which was bloated and slow now fast forward to the Galaxy S IV announcement and touchwiz now looks very dated and from what I can gather it does not follow the holo guidelines whatsoever and the enhancements are a slightly more toned down look (still cartoony like in appearance) and whites in the menu's.
So here is a breakdown of my gripes/concerns about Touchwiz on this flagship phone.
The dialler looks absolutely awful and seriously dated by todays standards
The contact list and/or contacts follows the same lines as the dialler and looks very dated
The camera icons have a fake metal look and stick out a mile
Basically Touchwiz looks way too cartoony, garish and lacks the polish and finish of the Nexus range and even the HTC One.
And last things last I appreciate that you can customise the hell out of Android with new diallers, new themes, tweaks and what not but this post is purely about the stock experience.
Aside from that Touchwiz does have some nice touches just Samsung need to bring it out of the gingerbread days and screaming and kicking into the holo days.
One last note I own a windows phone purely because of the aesthetics and all applications follow the same guidelines but there is such a lack of support I am coming back to Android at some point in the very near future.
Samsung always had a bunch of awful designers. They desperately need to hire better designers.

Definitely agree not denying that whatsoever and my complaints are purely about the design and look of Touchwiz not how to fix it
Some like it, some don't. Touchwiz UI never looks great to me, and its features (s voice, s beam, palm swipe screen capture etc) are nothing but bloats for me. However if you're gonna buy a S4 you'll have to find a way to like Touchwiz. Don't think you'll be able to flash CM or AOSP on an S4 and everything's gonna work well and great. With the lack of support and Samsung's attitude towards devs, open source development on this device is gonna be a pain.
Or you use a different launcher.
I'm riding the same boat as you mate, currently a Lumia 920 owner, came from S2 and Nexuses aren't sold in the country I live in. Samsung's totally effed it up, it looks so gingerbread :x

Totally agree with you.
Amoled display on Touchwiz added insult to injury. Its oversaturated/ unrealistic colors made it look more awful.
I'm not against samsung or its nature UX, I've seen the S4 personally and its display is really gorgeous. its just that just like you, i'm not into the outdated user experience with added features from the gingerbread days.

Samsung has no use for OCD types....They will never be satisfied and are too infinitesimal in the millions and millions of sold product. I don;t like TW. I use Nova Problem solved.
My feelings are if you are paying for a top end flagship device then everything should ooze quality and Touchwiz is firmly stuck in the days of gingerbread and it's getting totally left behind.
Launchers can only do so much imho.

Launchers can and do COMPLETELY change the experience. They do a lot. and then even more... In fact the problem people are having with TW can be completely eradicated with a very large choice of proven launchers.
REAL Flagship devices don't become antiquated in 6 months. I think the word "flagship" in this world of Mobile devices is over used. carries to high of expectations, and is over exaggerated for a $600 all in one device. The Note 3 will be the flagship device in a few months...Then what?
For MOST the S4 WILL "ooze quality" I know a few non rooting users who cannot wait to get their upgrades and have been completely satissfied with their S3s. WE in XDA are very very tiny consumer base for Samsung. They throw a few bones to developers for their own benefit so we can beta test their new stock firmwares. But tey are not building these devices for hackers who will run Cyanogen on them or care about slightly blue tints or plastic cases and screens (which are likely to be covered with the latest Otter box and ZAGG crap)
OCD/Anal users usually don't run their devices out of the box bare as designed, like I do. So does the plastic body and slick glass really matter?
Touchwiz came a long way since gingerbread. It's only downfall is that it's still choppy in very few areas (like widgets tab). Other than that, I'd rather have it then Sense (which comes with features you can't disable, at Touchwiz gives you the option to disable features you don't want) or stock android which is bare-boned and lacks features.
Just wait for custom roms.
They will bring new life to the s4.

So RUN AOSP in it, or run a Touchwiz run de-touchiwzed.

CM mostly coming to S4!

Steve Kondik recently put up a post on Google+ in response to websites in general that were stating no CM support for the Galaxy S4. He stated that cyanogenmod definitely will support the S4, and hopefully this should put to rest all the rumors on this.

The one thing I love in Samsung phones over others is the fact that it has a buttload of software features. Now, that being said, what I love more is running AOSP on it or CM which means losing those features BUT if you've heard of dual boot....
Just seeing that post gave me a smile, I know what my next phone is
Cool...:good:
It's highly unlikely that the GT-I9500 [Exynos] variant would get stable CM if Samsung remain stingy with the codes required.

The only reason you're using cm is cause you're using an old phone that doesn't have any special features of touchwiz that came after the S3 and Note 2. I had the GS1, and I couldn't handle using stock for that. But after the S3, things have changed. Now Samsung offers much more on top of being the most stable and smoothest. There is no reason to lose features, even simple features such as MHL is gone with paranoid android. I am back on stock and can't be happier knowing things are smooth and no stupid bugs.
^^^^^^ totally disagree. May lose some Sammy features, but CM /AOSP offers the best customization and smoothness.

It's all a matter of taste. Samsung has been including lots of customizations to its Touchwiz interface for the past couple of years.
Customizations that were only included on CM before are now present on Touchwiz and I'm really glad Samsung is paying attention to what people want.
That's my understating of it anyway. I'll still flash CM ROM's when a new Android comes just to see how it is before having to wait for Samsung to update it.

Yes, I agree with you on that. Samsung does stuff in enough features that you may not need CM/AOSP. But my concern is still about after Samsung stops supporting the handset for android upgrades. I doubt I would have been able to run my i9000 on GB till now.

Why not have the best of both worlds? Use the handset with stock for the first year or so, and then when Samsung is getting slow on the updates (or stopping) start rolling with AOSP. In a similar way when I built my computer I ran my processor and GPU like normal for a few years. After that, I started overclocking to help keep pace with games and stuff. That is, unless you intend to upgrade every year in which case it won't matter as much.

Agreed. To me that's the biggest upside of AOSP ROMs, having the latest version of Android. When you've always got the latest software it's a lot easier to hold onto your hardware for a while longer. I plan to stick with stock for quite a while.

Not necessarily. From my experience, touchwiz based ROMs get better battery life, stability etc. than CM. Or at worse, it's barely noticeable, even if such differences do exist. And you miss out on awesome dev - like Perseus on AOSP (best kernel for Note 2/SGS3 IMHO).
Can't wait to overclock an overclocked CPU with some CM!

Careful now, he might actually believe it.
I am still trying to figure out the logic of wanting the stock AOSP for the S4 from Samsung.
How will this be any different from running any other AOSP rom? I mean, if you check out PA GamerZ ROM, that works quite well as a daily driver. Why would we want to use this stock AOSP (with features that are quite basic)? Just to get 4.3 when it comes out? So? Some dev will port that anyways.
I mean, if someone bought the S4, wasn't it for the features? If anyone wanted stock AOSP then why not Nexus 4? Ok if hardware is the question, then really waiting for the next Nexus isn't that hard.
So can someone explain to me why?

For someone like me, it's not about running the stock AOSP on S4. It's about how it can improve the AOSP based custom roms like CM, PA, etc.
Hopefully, Samsung/Google will release proper source codes as quickly as for Nexus devices so that custom roms can run better on S4.
I've been using GS3 (i9305), mainly with CM for the last 10 months or so. It works ok as a daily driver, but not as well as it could've been, mainly because not all the necessary sources are available/released.
I tried Nexus 4 for about a couple of weeks and running CM was definately more fluid/enjoyable than on GS3.
But I couldn't really get used to not having the physical home button and lack of storage space. If GS4 Google Edition is released with exact same hardward as normal i9505, then this will be almost perfect - custom roms running as well as on Nexus devices with physical home button and MicroSD slot.

In simple terms.
Google gets to have its vanilla version of Android on a flagship device without having to subsidize the cost of designing the hardware.
Unlike Nexus devices where Google invests R&D money to make the hardware... having Samsung and HTC put a version of Stock Android on the device pretty much absolves Google of any financial liability in relation to hardware development.
Nexus devices are traditionally spartan... and Google likes it that way... but what if mobile manufacturers want to have nexus compatible device with all the bells and whistles... they will all compete on who has the most Nexus compatible device.
This will attract developers and customers that prefer the stock Google experience
Bear in mind also Google is still developing their Motorola flagship device... this has handset makers very jittery.
Having a GE also puts the latest Android on a device and puts pressure on the makers of the device to move build it out into their MAIN version of Android.
So Key lime pie or 4.3 should come quicker on the HTC and S4 than would be tradtional.
Another issues is transparency.
For too long handset makers have said "our phone can't run the latest version of Android" when we know they lie.
Samsung has been good.. the S2 has JB while the HTC Sensation 4G has all but been dumped by their makers.
Companies that have a Google edition will have that extra edge in longevity.

Bet it'll be up noonish, USA time, which means roughly 18.00-19.00 Brit time.

I hope we get firmware today

How will the different SOCs affect ROMs and stuff?

Hi!
Now it seems confrimed, that the EU version of the Galaxy S7 will have the Exynos 8890 while (all?) other countrys will have the Snapdragon 820. Are there any predictions how that will affect the development for the phone? If i remember correctly there were examples in the past where phones came with different SOCs, does anyone know about the issues that came from that?
Im living in the EU so i wouldnt buy the phone if there are no Custom-Roms available since everyone is using the SD820 variant here...
The Snapdragon in my opinion will be more custom ROM friendly. CM ports, AOSP etc... The exynos processor are always behind.

The only difference is the AOSP ROMs, if you want CM and those crappy things you should get the SD820 version.

So we shouldnt worry if we don't care about cm? Because I don't. Although I like the gpe rom on my htc m8 though ...
I'm looking to get the S7 Edge but think it would be too much of a hassle to import the SD820 Variant only because of flashing different ROMs
snap 820 will be better, sad in my country(brazil) only will have exynos trash version
Why did they make two variants in the first place ?
how about Exynos and just plain root?
I would settle with stock FW and basic root, so I could run Titanium, etc
I dont want Touchwiz, i remeber what it did to my brothers Galaxy S3 and even the S6 seems to have issues. Also i would like to try cm....

Exynos-models are often root:able just like their snapdragon brethren, it's just that snapdragon phones are usually a lot more developer-friendly.

I've had the Note 5 since it came out and it's gotten very little development, more than likely because of the processor. Only thing we're seeing are the debloated ones with a few tweaks and one or two kernel options. So it hasn't been horrible, but none of the TRUE custom roms have been available. So I wouldn't even risk it with the Exynos processor if you're truly interested in the devs getting involved heavily.

Yeah, if you're ok with TW then it's fine, Samsung devices generally get many custom TW ROMs and kernels.

Sure, there is a little less dev involvment, but why ruin your device with an always-beta AOSP ROM? But there's a catch, you can't convert your carrier branded phone to unlocked, maybe that's why your phone has less devs. But still, other than AOSP, the S6 has it all, TW ROMs, kernels, mods...

Well, I'm a "Serial Flasher" so I like having the wide variety of options. Unlocked doesn't mean much if the processor is the issues (which was the problem with the Note 5). Still had only TW type ROM's. Again, there were a few, but their base was still TW. For those who like closer to a pure Google experience, then you need the development if you don't already have a Nexus device (which I'll definitely be picking up this go around).
Just all about what you want. Nothing is bad, I love my Note 5. But just as far as development, I've been disappointed.

Yeah, there are no AOSP ROMs for the 7420 really, but they usually suck anyway. I had a Galaxy Nexus and the only thing good about it was the fast updates, no more Nexus for me. Better have a full featured TW phone than a half-ass baked ROM made by some snob cooker who thinks he's better than everyone just because he's a "dev".

Now I can't argue that I've run into some devs who were assholes. But overall the community has been very cool. And a lot of these roms (especially some of the big boy groups) are very clean and stable. Not many complaints about the roms at all! I stick to the people I know and might try a new one here or there. But I've been more than happy with my AOSP experiences.

Agreed! I come to XDA for trying out new ROMs and mods for my phones whether that's TW, AOSP or CM. The reliable devs are almost always friendly and only get peeved when people ask the same questions without searching for an answer first. Been on and off XDA since my Galaxy S2 and never regretted a single flash.
I am also very interested in this question. I have already pre-ordered the S7. But i'll get the Exynos version.
Seriously considering canceling that order and import a 820. Or maybe i'll hang onto it for the first two weeks and send it back if TW is as bad as i fear. Always dreamed about a galaxy devices running stock android....

I regret having bought a Nexus, stock Android is boring, and that hardware was crap, any lwp would make it lag lol.

No one is forced to stay 'stock'. You can easily download one of many amazing launchers on the play store. Also most TW "features" can be replicated through some app or Xposed.
