OTA Update Problem - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Community ,
Today one of my friends bought me the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 the 4.7 version Single SIM 8GB, Contract-free from Germany. During the first boot he was instructed to install the new firmware updates, everything went fine "I guess" until the phone restarted, he told me that the recovery mode screen appeared, but frankly i think that he got this screen by accident maybe he was pressing the power key and the volume up key while the phone was restarting who knows, anyways he selected Reboot system now from the menu, and when the phone starts up, no notifications were found and nothing says that the system was updated successfully.
So after all of this he checked the system firmware version, And it was 5.0.2-010 05,and a message saying new updates are available appeared. He proceeded the installation of this update, And everything went fine this time and he system is now 5.0.2-010 07.
So is it normal or the android system will be corrupted, The fact that i have the 5.0.2-010 07, does it mean that all the previous updates are applied correctly to the system ?
How can i please remove all the firmware updates and remove any changes so i can reinstall the system updates properly ?
P.S: I'm an android noob don't be harsh to me please

Hello and welcome to the comunity.
If everything works as it should be, that means the update was succesfull. Sometimes OTA updates are a small files about 50MB which only fixes some bugs, and thats why you dont need to see "android is upgrading" in the boot and also sometimes the OTA reboots the phone to recovery to be able to flash system files correctly.
So when you have 010.07 that means the update was successfull. If you maybe encounter some problems, just do factory reset the phone (you will lost all installed apps, sms, call log, but no photos and music).

Thanks a lot for the reply, So when the OTA reboot to recovery, choosing reboot system now from the recovery menu was the right choice ?

i think when the OTA has to reboot to recovery then there you should see some instalation progress which should end with automatic reboot. But anyway, when all works as it should dont bother with it.

I saw the installation progress only in the second update, in the first update the phone rebooted into recovery mode in which there is a static menu that i don't really remember the choices.
but yeah, anyways thanks

i am on custom rom, so i don't know how exactly the updates work. I am waiting to next update to android 6.0, but it will come not before march as i have i formations (more likely in summer )

Help - Sensation 4g wont update

My sensation 4G just wont update. I downloaded the software when i got a prompt for an auto update. Its approximately a 44mb file. After downloading comes the install now or later screen. After choosing the install now, phone goes into shutdown, restarts but them moves to a screen with a WHITE TRIANGLE, YELLOW EXCLAMATION AND A BLUE ANDROID besides it in the centre. Nothing happens post that. Last night i kept the phone in that state for a good 8 hrs hoping it will update, but nothing.. The only way i can start the phone is by removing the battery and starting the phone again..
Everything on the phone works fine. Market apps download and install fine.. I just cannot update the phone by default though..
Things that i have already tried..
-Deleted cache completely but still same error post a new update download and install
-post that did a complete reset, factory data reset. Redownloaded the update, still d same problem persists..
What more can i do? This update will take the phone so android 2.3.4 and sense version to 3.5.
Is the update available on the forum, by which i can download and transfer to the sd card and manually install and try??
Any suggestions are welcome at this time..
ps: I am a newbie to android, hence not considered custom roms yet
IF you have not done anything to your phone you should take it into a TMO store and show them the problem. I don't think there anything else you can do having not rooted or flashed.

The problem is, i am in India right now. Cant take it to one cause TMO doesnt exist here and HTC doesnt have a global warranty.
Does this look like a hardware issue?

Even though this is an older document. New updates work the same way.
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2392
Follow that for manual download and try that way.
Sir this is what i have been doing and it doesn't work.
Over the air or manually via menu, d end result is still the same.
By manual i meant if there is a physical file available to download which i can put on my sd card and then update it via system boot..
Can anyone tell me what exactly does the white triangle wit the yellow exclamation and blue android symbolize?

[Q] [SOLVED] Broken device with new update?

Hey guys, i have a problem.
Basically, a little while ago my phone notified me of a new OTA, and being the idiot i am, i figured "i have a backup, installing it can't hurt."
Well, essentially, it boots into recovery like it should, and informs me it couldn't verify the package signature, so i told it to ignore that and try to install it anyways, it tries to install and tells me it cant because the package target is for "falcon_umts" and this is a "xt1034", which i figure is no big deal, because it didn't install, so i boot my phone like normal, and now we run into the problem, as soon as the phone finishes loading everything, and the update checker loads up, it reboots the phone without prompting me and tries to get me to install the package, so basically, im now stuck with a phone that i cant start for more than 5 minutes without it rebooting, does anyone know what i can do to fix this? i would have restored from a previous point but it turns out i DINT have a backup ._.
Edit: I fixed it, for anyone else having this issue, i looked closer at the output and saw where it stored the update's zip file, it was in /cache, i went into recovery and just wiped cache, and now all is well, hopefully this helps someone!

[Q] After disabling ATT, hell broke loose.

I have the shield tablet LTE version and after connecting to WIFI it immediately installed all OTAs upto the hotfix also. So here I am sitting with lollipop in my tablet and I decide to go for rooting and CWM installation.. After rooting using adb/fastboot and installing CWM image, I decide to disable ATTall access because I read that it stops the portable hotspot from working. So, did that and then process after process started crashing. First it started with background data not being enabled (playstore wouldn't open) , NVidia hub crashing, google text to speech crashing, etc.
So, I went to cwm and did factory reset. At the initial stages itself where it asks for language setup, the google text to speexh crashes and I cannot click next or proceed forward.
I flash the Lollipop OTA once again thinking it would overwrite the system but it didn't.. and the same issue keeps happening..
Now what do I do?
Regards
Alden
An update to the mess i was in...
I tried recovery mode at the fastloader boot menu and I got the robot lying down with a red exclamation mark sign. I pressed vol + key and it opened the original recovery I think. I wiped user data from this menu and rebooted. and now it has come to the original screen setup and so far no process crashes...
What could have caused this entire mess?
I am not sure what would cause your issues but i believe your best bet is to download the full rom image for your tablet and flash it via fastboot. That should get you back up and running. (Be warned doing this will erase everything on your tablet!! SD card will be untouched)
By fullmrom u mean the one from the nvidia developer website right?
Yes that is the one! I am currently at work so I cant post a link to it but if you need it ill try to post it once im off, in about 30-ish minutes. Good luck! (p.s. last resort is RMA)
Is your shield up and running once again? Just wanted to get an update. =]
Thanks javydawg, I didnt use the one on nvidias developer website as i simply did not have enough data left in my Internet plan .. its 2.3 gb in size... after recoVery i was left with lollipop so i flashed a 750 mb file tht i gt from these forums and updated it to the latest version.. i still haven't pinpointed the reason for my earlier trouble but will shout out if it happens again... have to be careful cos not sure if RMA is possible for me in India...

[Q] My phone doesn't reboot after an update, i have to manually put it on..

Hello fellow xda-ers,
I have a OnePlus One, but i cannot seem to update the phone.
What is the exact problem?
- there is a system update ready, so i download the update and it asks me to install and then it tries to reboot
- the phone shuts down and doesn't reboot, i have to manually turn the phone off which makes the update sequence stop.
- the phone tells me again theres a update, but it doesnt reboot after it shuts down.
- even just giving the phone the command to reboot, just shuts the phone off and the phone doesn't reboot.
What did i try?
- via oneplus toolkit (mac) i flashed it to stock default, but still the problem persists.
- i flashed a 5.1.1. firmware straight from cyanogen mod, but still the problem persists.
- i flashed a custom recovery (while unchecking the update cm recovery), but the problem still persists.
I don't know what to do... Anybody have advice? It would be much appreciated.
I am pretty aware of what to do and not to do, i have been flashing phones since the iPhone 3gs. But this is just odd.
I was having similar problem. Except mine was booting into the bootloader. From there I tried to manually install the update. It kept failing so I gave up. Then about a week later (today) I let it try to install and it seemed to be working, except when it finally booted back up, it had completely wiped my phone!!! Now I'm midway though reinstalling all my apps and it gives me the "There's an update available for you phone". So apparently it didn't even update in that process.
I've got the exact same problem here.

A handful of problems after performing a factory reset

Hi.
I installed some dodgy app which required root access to operate (but it didn't even though I allowed it in SuperSu) and this is where my problems started.
First of all, I noticed each and every app I tried to run would immediately crash. That included system apps, such as the Settings app. At that stage I was left with only the launcher working and attempts to uninstall apps would also cause a crash. Even the shutdown menu was broken and the phone hung up so I was forced to reboot it by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
After that, the phone would no longer be able to boot, it was stuck in a boot loop, but recovery still worked (TWRP for that matter) so firstly I wiped the cache partitions (including dalvik cache) but that didn't help, as the phone still wouldn't boot. In this case there was only one thing left for me to try and that was the factory reset capability of TWRP which claimed to not even touch internal storage so I was fine with that and did the wipe.
Thankfully, the phone booted afterwards and it welcomed me with the first startup guide (the language selection dialog was really buggy but that's Huawei's fault) and the phone was seemingly ok, except that the whole internal storage had been wiped out but not only that - the external microsd card was empty as well! Could you believe that? I couldn't. TWRP promised not to touch internal storage and the external memory card wasn't even mentioned but why would it wipe it anyway?
That's for the story behind it, now for the actual problems I'm facing right now:
The stock remote app is gone
The boot animation has changed to a different one (now it's a silver "android" logo instead of the "honor" logo)
Battery usage stats are not available (see: http://i.cubeupload.com/BXCknW.png)
Sound quality from the built-in speaker seems noticeably worse
Hereby, I'm asking you guys to help me out with all of this.
The "remote app missing" problem could be solved by someone sharing their apk file with me, that's probably the simplest one to fix.
As for the boot animation, I have no clue as I don't even know what files are responsible for that.
The same for the battery stats problem, I'm already through a couple of full-charge-to-discharge cycles as well as wiping the cache partition, but the problem remains.
The sound quality probably has to do with the DTS sound enhancer. The config file for that is either "/cust/unicom/cn/xml/dolby_config.xml" or "/cust/unicomelectric/cn/xml/dolby_config.xml" and I'm asking you to upload these files somewhere so I can compare them with mine to see if anything is different.
The device I'm using is the H60-L02 variant running the B532 ROM.
Does the 3 buttons method erase internal storage as well? I've already set up quite some apps and having to do it again wouldn't be the most pleasant surprise. But at least in this case I could make some backups and whatnot...
Also, would it work if I flashed B535 straight away or does the 3 buttons method expect the same version which is already installed, in this case B532?

It will wipe internal storage. You can flash any *full* ROM as long as you're not moving up or down from kitkat-lolipop/marshmallow.

Okay, so I decided I'd do the whole thing today. I downloaded the full B535 ROM on my PC, backed up all the stuff I care about from the phone to the PC as well, and also I downloaded the MultiTool.
Though the MultiTool thread says this in bold red:
VirusPlus said:
EMUI 3.1 WARNING! Update over rooted or system modded in EMUI 3.1 gives a BRICK.
You have to restore system and REMOVE root before every update in EMUI 3.1 for now.

So I also fired up Titanium Backup in order to defrost all the frozen apps, which went fine, and then I wanted to unroot the phone but I've been unable to do so so far.
To unroot, I launch the SuperSU app, navigate to the "Settings" tab and select "Full unroot". The problem being, it just gets stuck on the screen saying "Uninstalling, please wait...". I don't know how long it usually takes to complete, so far I've waited for maybe 10 minutes and nothing seems to change. Should I care about that? Is that warning about updating rooted/modified EMUI 3.1 resulting in a brick still true?
Can I skip this step and just flash the stock recovery followed by the 3 buttons method?
EDIT:
After some trial and error with the multi tool and different recoveries, I was able to finally unroot. Next, I flashed the stock recovery for B532 and attempted to do the 3 buttons method, but it would say "Install failed. The update package does not exist" (could be because I'm doing the update from a USB flash drive as I don't have an micro sd card big enough to fit the package). So I rebooted the phone into system and used the Updater to perfrom a local update where it would let me pick the USB drive. It completed without errors and then rebooted into some kind of updater (black background and some bluish emui colors) where it also took some time to finish thankfully successfully. I can right now see the phone booting and for what it's worth, the boot animation is once again the good old "honor" logo and not that ugly silvery "android" one
And now it's "Optimizing system...". I really hope it finsishes successfully as it's already a bit late here and I wouldn't like the phone to be unusable tomorrow
36% ready...
46% it's kind of fun to watch this, and now 49%
I'd like to thank @pudup once more for helping out, I'm not really that much into flashing recoveries, roms and all that myself. Without your help I would probably be too scared to try doing something on my own :crying:
86%, 89%, 95% and 100%. Aww, what a relief Good old stock lock screen and wallpaper.
